Rules

  1. No screenshots, or pictures with added or superimposed text. This includes image macros, comics, info-graphics and most diagrams. Text (e.g. a URL) serving to credit the original author is exempt.

  2. No gore or porn. NSFW content must be tagged.

  3. No personal information. This includes anything hosted on Facebook's servers, as they can be traced to the original account holder. Stalking & harassment will not be tolerated.

  4. No solicitation of votes (including "cake day" posts), posts with their sole purpose being to communicate with another redditor, or [FIXED] posts. DAE posts go in /r/DoesAnybodyElse. "Fixed" posts should be added as a comment to the original image.

  5. Submissions must link directly to a specific image file or to an image hosting website with minimal ads. We do not allow blog hosting of images ("blogspam"), but links to albums on image hosting websites are okay. URL shorteners are prohibited.

  • If your submission appears to be filtered but definitely meets the above rules, please send us a message with a link to the comments section of your post (not a direct link to the image). Don't delete it as that just makes the filter hate you!

  • If you come across any rule violations, please report the submission or message the mods and one of us will remove it!

Please also try to come up with original post titles. Submissions that use certain clichés/memes will be automatically tagged with a warning.

Learn how to count fucks OP.

[–]roqqingit 69 points70 points ago

man i wish i had as much time as you.

[–]Honda_TypeR 12 points13 points ago

You do...

You just don't spend it making snarky animated gifs.

[–]thetoastmonster 8 points9 points ago

I think you missed the arm of #5 there, standing on the porch on the left.

[–]blayned 2 points3 points ago

I think you missed #6, taking the picture.

[–]L3ggomeggo 13 points14 points ago

Not to mention the flip flops.....what is that kid doing.

[–]Im-postle-able 9 points10 points ago

Socks + flip flops = crime against humanity.

[–]wm07 3 points4 points ago

socks + flip flops = wavy as hell

[–]wobwobwob42 1 point2 points ago

Socks + flip flops, Flat brimmed caps and neck beards

Three things that as a 42 year old I cannot wrap my head around. Growing up if I saw any ONE of these things on a person they would be mentally unstable in some way and now I see people with all three. Fuck you, younger generation.

[–]drain13 1 point2 points ago

dems the house shoes fool. when you kickin it or whatevs. spacemen got you locked down in the house so no need to wear the good kicks.

[–]Greflin -2 points-1 points ago

[–]nobuhdy 33 points34 points ago

[–]drain13 7 points8 points ago

[–]detourxp 0 points1 point ago

[–]seriouslydamaged 1 point2 points ago

[–]cigarman44 12 points13 points ago

Yeah they should really fix that net.

[–]mapkinase -1 points0 points ago

They sure should, they surely should.

[–]misterid 19 points20 points ago

that is a great photo. a great photo.

[–]dclowd9901 7 points8 points ago

I had imagined, looking at it, that this was some alternate universe where space craft are as common as derelict vehicles. Just that fleeting moment of such a reality was enough to grab deep within me like a good Bradbury story.

[–]tinlo 0 points1 point ago

Later that night, their father sneaks them aboard the space shuttle with sleeping bags and sandwiches, rigs up some hydraulics, blacks out the windows, and takes them to Mars.

[–]mapkinase -1 points0 points ago

Yes! Came here to say this.

Beautiful photography both form and content: mesmerizing context-rich content with implications of retiring spectacular mastodont of cold-war era, squalid ethnic housing in the richest state of the richest country, general population that do not care about space. Excellent light job. Love the red color, kid in the air in an awkward position. Satellite on the shabby roof - symbol of disbalance between real life and fantasy, subj title is actually about the net hanging half detached from the hoop.

This is absolute shame that this picture has very few upvotes compared to the other crap on the front page.

[–]ChemistryIsFun 17 points18 points ago

Well, I don't agree with this sentiment, but I certainly understand where it comes from.

[–]kaiden333 3 points4 points ago

An interesting viewpoint I had not considered. Thank you.

[–]Spaghe-t -3 points-2 points ago

Whitey on the moon, brings 7 more dollars for the whiteys on the earth.

Although it doesn't say where, I don't think people in the ghetto(poor regions, etc there's no inoffensive way to call the areas/economical class) really benefit as much from the NASA exploration as much as the people working for the parts manufacturers and the people working closely with NASA.

Sure, findings in the medical fields are significant, but whether or not the hospitals they can access are using the most recent medical equipment and techniques is unclear, and they sure aren't driving hybrids or EVs. They have almost no relation to helicopters and computer technology....

7:1, but to where?

[–]chugfratchugfratchug -1 points0 points ago

So you are saying that you hate niggers? Thought you were a moralfag.

[–]Spaghe-t 0 points1 point ago

dammit....what.

you're gonna run around and harass everything I say now?

[–]chugfratchugfratchug 0 points1 point ago

hide yo kids, hide yo wife

[–]stesch 0 points1 point ago

Wow, this attitude surely made everything better.

[–]Hawk2007 -1 points0 points ago

Yup, it comes from the entitlement mentality. I exist, therefore I should get free housing, food, utilities, healthcare, etc.

I may not like to work, I may not like to show up on time to things, but it doesn't matter. The government should establish a baseline for me to live.

[–]sardonic_raven 0 points1 point ago

More like it comes from the mentality that I work when I can find a job, pay taxes on my food, housing, clothing, gas & car or pay for public transportation and income tax on the meager, below living wage salary I'm getting from two part-time jobs because few businesses will hire full-time so they can avoid paying benefits...and expect those damned taxes to help with the inability to pay for all of health care, food, utilities, housing, etc for the whole family even while working 40 or more hours a week.

[–]Veothrosh -5 points-4 points ago

Isn't nasa mostly privately funded?

[–]betweenus 10 points11 points ago

Also, maybe not a fuck was given because maybe this was filmed in Inglewood and they were left without power for multiple hours when the shuttle crossed the Manchester Boulevard bridge... Apparently, crews preparing for the crossing had to take down power lines, leaving about 400 residents of surrounding Inglewood without power for what was expected to be several hours.

[–]ghouly 4 points5 points ago

Not true, I was on reddit the whole time the shuttle was here/

[–]PengMoobs 2 points3 points ago

no-one said you were involved you... you... you presumer you

[–]Jamm1n 70 points71 points ago

So how do you think they managed to steal the space shuttle ?

[–]RavingMoses 3 points4 points ago

Took me like a minute there. Sitting thinking that the pink shirted fellow didn't seem like that much of a basass BUT LOOK WHO HAS A FUCKING SPACESHIP IN THEIR STREET. Badass.

[–]dirtymoney 1 point2 points ago

Dat be whitey nonsense!

[–]dinolex 7 points8 points ago

[–]amatrini 8 points9 points ago

Cool photo, but the title...getting kinda sick of that phrase.

[–]Corn0ffTheCob -3 points-2 points ago

Reddit hears your comment, andnotafuckwasgiven

[–]PeterHell 5 points6 points ago

At the speed the endeavour was going, they could finish a game of basketball and take a nap and still make it to steal the ship

[–]ethanarb 2 points3 points ago

Toyota commercial?

[–]giantenemycrab 0 points1 point ago

Where is this picture from?

[–]smashmakhan 4 points5 points ago

fuck your title.

[–]vparras 2 points3 points ago

Must practice to get into the NBA

[–]mrfurious2k 2 points3 points ago

There is something inherently sad about this picture.

[–]amatrini 1 point2 points ago

what is sad about it exactly?

[–]mrfurious2k 2 points3 points ago

You have the height of man's technological prowess and a symbol of our drive to explore and learn sitting ignored in the middle of the street. Two young people are playing basketball without interest. It's almost as if it's saying, "The young have lost the day when space captured the imagination. All that's left is to play because we have nothing more to consider."

I realize we each get something from this but I find that interpretation inherently sad.

[–]amatrini 0 points1 point ago

Well if that's the interpretation you got from the picture then yeah I guess it does seem sad, but I figured If even something amazing as a space shuttle is parked outside your house you aren't going to spend the entire looking at it. Just thought it a bit interesting how people could look at a photo and come to such varied interpretations.

[–]guyver_dio 0 points1 point ago

Next on pimp my ride...

[–]RainDancingChief 0 points1 point ago

nigga I ain't got time for no damn spaceship. Sheeeeeeeit.

[–]shiiiitniggaaa 1 point2 points ago

[–]TheVictoryHat 1 point2 points ago

[–]VerticalLegion -1 points0 points ago

[–]Swarley_Brown 1 point2 points ago

Socks and sandals... Damn.

[–]niibs 1 point2 points ago

[–]lolimslim 0 points1 point ago

[–]bossofrickross -1 points0 points ago

[–]jackoquack -1 points0 points ago

[–]kwalbolt 1 point2 points ago

Photo by Wally Skalij / Los Angeles Times.

[–]luigisfuckingpeach 1 point2 points ago

"Daaaaaaad, NASA's here"

[–]egoach 0 points1 point ago

[–]Captain_SuperWang 0 points1 point ago

Sandals AND socks?

[–]Moleman69 0 points1 point ago

Initially I was looking at the hoop/basketball area to see if there was something extra make shift that no fucks were being given about, then I saw Endeavour slyly photobombing and oh boy, didn't I feel silly!

[–]Irak95 0 points1 point ago

There's a girl on the roof.

[–]xilog 0 points1 point ago

_ _ _ _ _ _ _ gonna _ _ _.

[–]Havokk 2 points3 points ago

Tragic...:-(

[–]N307H30N3 1 point2 points ago

Can someone explain what I am looking at

[–]Hawk2007 1 point2 points ago

I think it was traveling at 2 mph. So, I mean, it would be cool and all, but it'd get to a point where you're like..... "Hurry it up!"

[–]kuikka3 0 points1 point ago

You can't get outta hood by watching a space shuttle.

[–]rillegas08 0 points1 point ago

I'm pretty sure the street isn't wide enough to allow for the shuttle's wings.

[–]stebany 0 points1 point ago

Saw this on the cover of the LA times today, had no idea why they'd have a couple of black kids playing basketball as the cover shot for about 30 seconds.

[–]ifatree 0 points1 point ago

nice fence.

[–]dopefreshness -1 points0 points ago

What? You never seen a shuttle before. They drive by all the time.

Heh... drive by

[–]fittsy -1 points0 points ago

I can see this photo getting very popular/famous.

[–]betweenus 1 point2 points ago

Source? I'd LOVE to get a higher quality one and know who took this. It really spoke to me.

[–]wekiva 1 point2 points ago

I really don't get the big deal about the "retired" shuttles.

[–]TempestFunk 1 point2 points ago

At first I thought the title was referring to the socks and sandals, then I saw it
