FALSE:

In Windows, the Minesweeper board is generated randomly before the player clicks any squares.[citation needed] If the player happens to click a mine square on their very first click, the mine at this square is removed and a new mine is placed in the upper left corner. If there is already a mine in the upper left corner (or it was the square that the player clicked), a new mine is placed in the first (starting in the upper left corner then proceeding left->right, top->bottom) available empty spot of the board. Once this change is made, the game proceeds as if the initial clicked square was empty. This is done to ensure that the player will not lose on their very first click

True in the newer version. However that minesweeper is pre-vista thus no replay option.

This was not true for the old minesweeper as shown in the picture. That has happened to me many times. Not for years, though, because of the new rule there.

The OP posted what looks like the WinXP version. I played that version nearly everyday for years. I never lost on the first click.

Incorrect, unless you a referring to minesweeper before 3.1.

Interestingly windows 7 redid the code and the windows 7 version can be tricked into letting you mess up on the first click.

You are correct though. If you restart the game in Windows 7 minesweeper after losing once, and then click on a square that had the mine in the last game, then yes, you can lose the game on the first click.
