I don't get why this is the go-to critique of /r/gonewild. I just checked and there's not one mention of the poster being shy in any post on their front page. It seems poster are much more likely to act like they're doing everyone a favor by uploading.

I would wager that a lot of them are very nervous about posting their bodies online because they don't have the highest self esteem. Which is probably why they are posting in the first place, they are hoping for some good feedback to raise their confidence. In the mean time, however, they are nervous/shy/whatever you want to call it.

It makes sense that shy people would post online too, since the criticism they are afraid of is easier to brush off than real life.
