Actually it's not so much about working smarter as it is about working as anti-competitively as possible. Some companies start with a small period of innovation and then follow with a long era of stagnation through hostile, unethical competitive practices. The people that really are the brains beyond the operations usually get shafted one way or another.

Where are all the rich engineers? The people actually responsible for creating the product sold. The rich people are the business men whose job it is to make others work for them and the people who have inherited capital generation from generation. You give the capital to your typical competent engineer, they will be their own boss. You don't need to manager to make your dreams come true.

If Capitalism actually WORKED we wouldn't have the income gap we have now. People with the capacity to create would be creating, not sitting around unemployed waiting for someone to give them a job that they aren't even that particularly passionate about just to feed them enough to work another day. When I went to Singapore I was shocked that I could buy a damn good meal from one of the many self-employed family establishments for $2-3USD because multinationals like McDonalds don't dominate the dining industry.

Anyways I suspect am being modded down because people are confusing the idealistic version of Capitalism with Capitalism in practice. Idealistic capitalism is Supply v. Demand, self-correcting, plenty of diversity, those who sell the best products get furthest, limited government, ect. In practice, the little fish grow big and then lobby the government to kill off the little fish.

Tell what the difference is between a large monopolistic corporation and a democratic government entity besides the fact that the corporation is authoritarian. What happens when a corporation grows large enough that it can hire lobbyists and congressmen to write legislation that the people mostly disapprove of, and pay the media to lie to the public? The kings and queens of the modern day are those people that sit on the executive boards of the largest multinationals.

Capitalism is not self-correcting, nor has it ever been. The only way it can be self-correcting is if there was a regulatory government that was incapable of being influenced. It is an inevitable eventuality that any Capitalist system will corrupt itself.
