Do, do-do, do, do-do, It's not unusual to be loved by anyone.

Mars Attacks! I love that movie!

EDIT: The pumpkin is bitchin, by the way!

Please tell me how to do this. It is fantastic. One of the great movies.

What I do is shave down the inside to about a half inch (so it doesn't dry out), use a poker tool to poke small holes for the outline (so make connect-the-dots pattern that's easy to follow), mark any particularly tough areas with a sharpie that need to be done first (start from inside out and do the smallest more intricate parts first), and then cut it out with a really small, thin, serrated blade.

I have been using the same carving kit that my mom gave to me when I was 10.

Awesome, thank you very much. Nice kit btw.

ALIEN! Wheres that huge, all-star cast when you need em'!

[–]babbish 1 point2 points ago

How long did that take to make? Did you do it in one session or was this something done over a few days or more?

edit:spelling

by the time he finished, the pumpkin was moldy.

[–]Pnooms[S] 1 point2 points ago

this one took me about 6 hours from hollowing out the pumpkin to the finishing touches. the brain was a pain in the ass. It's hard to do them in more than a day because the pumpkin can dry out and it becomes more fragile unless you store it properly.

That's awesome, I suck at carving pumpkins. One more question, did you use a template or did you just know what you wanted to carve out? This is some serious carving here, like wow. I wish I could do that. great job and if i had a hat, I'd tip it for you.

[–]Pnooms[S] 1 point2 points ago

I just found a picture, worked with it in paint to make sure all the pieces were legit (none that would just fall off after you cut them out, happens a lot). I tape it on the pumpkin to poke holes of the basic shape of the carving, then do the intricate stuff. So yea, more or less I find a good stencil.

[–]babbish 1 point2 points ago

The part where the pieces fall through, this right here is the hard part for me but you really did a great job. Are you doing anything like this this year?

[–]Pnooms[S] 1 point2 points ago

Yea, poking the pieces through is hard, but only if you didn't cut it right. If the blade is always going in straight, then they fall out on their own.

I am in fact doing one this year. It has become a tradition and I could not imagine a year where I don't do one, but not sure what to do yet. I wanna do Check It Out! w/ Dr. Steve Brule but I can't find a good template.

[–]babbish 1 point2 points ago

Make sure you post it here when you finish. :-)

[–]Pnooms[S] 1 point2 points ago

will do, I usually do it the night before Halloween so all the kids can see it. So it won't be in the pumpkin contest :(

[–]babbish 1 point2 points ago

If you were in the contest, I think you would win. Principles are better than contests anyway. :-)

[–]babbish 1 point2 points ago

This probably doesn't help as I'm sure that you've seen it but here..

Not sure if this is what you're looking for and I'm not familiar with the show, I rarely watch TV or anything like that.

[–]aFellowman 1 point2 points ago

Someone needs to give credit to www.zombiepumpkins.com for the stencil.

[–]Pnooms[S] 0 points1 point ago

Yea I saw it on their website afterwards. I googled it and found a small picture, blew it up and used that. So technically it was not their's that I was using, but I recognize the fact that it is their image. Zombiepumpkins does have a lot of good ones, but I'm trying not to use a stencil from them them this year. (I'll still probably find a good one from them anyway cuz they are the shit.)

Definitely the pattern from: www.jamminpumpkins.com (check the bonus section)
