I know what you mean, the brain is pretty weird (you should've seen it with the lights on). Have you heard of trypophobia or the irrational fear of holes/groups of holes? I'd just Wiki instead of googlling to avoid images (I just typed in fear of holes and felt sick from a group of logs)

This is probably the scariest thing you could have put on the pumpkin for me. It is the one and only movie that ever gave me nightmares and made me afraid of the dark.

Note: I was 6 years old when I saw it in theaters and it was my first encounter with a scary movie.

How are these produced? Do you scrape the pumpkin from the inside? Is it all done free hand or do you sketch it out first. And how on earth do you judge the shading without piercing the skin sometimes?

These are awesome btw, I'm very jealous of your mad skills!

There's some people that carve it out really thin and the light shows through in different shades...I can't do that. But what I do is shave down the inside to about a half inch (so it doesn't dry out), use a poker tool to poke small holes for the outline (so make connect-the-dots pattern that's easy to follow), and then cut it out with a really small, thin, serrated blade.

After the dots are done I usually throw flour onto it so it stands out more, but ya don't need to do that.

the flour would stick inside the poked holes so they would be easier to see. sometimes the tiny holes get crap in em or they're too small.

then you are using them wrong...lol. Yes they are very bendable, but if you make sure that you are always straight perpendicular to the pumpkin then it isn't a problem

You can use a dremel with a straight bit if you have one around.

It zips through it pretty quickly and if you use a paper pattern(glued on) it cuts through that as well.

Check out Stoneykins.com for a great tutorial on how to carve both real pumpkins and foam ones.

I think I'm getting you. Is your point that the carving is the entire pumpkin and not just one face?

I'm guessing these are VIP stencils you got here? Trying to figure out if it's worth me paying for stencils that I can't see! They don't let you see what you can get with the VIP package. You just have to pay upfront, which is kinda weird.

Went to this movie for a friend's birthday in 6th grade and it scared the shit out of me, despite it being an entertaining dark comedy. Had nightmares. Still love the movie to this day, great all-star cast. Jack Black kills it as a Gomer Pile-eque character.

I just carved the same pattern this week, but I got the pattern from Jammin pumpkins.

If you really want to see this pattern shine, get a pack of green light bulbs (if you are using a clip light) they are $1.50 for a pack of five in the christmas section at Lowes.

It is amazing when it is glowing green!!!

Work from the bottom, and use an electric or battery powered light. That way the same pumpkin that made the Jack-o-Lantern will make the Thanksgiving and Christmas pumpkin pie, and the New years pumpkin cake.
