  1. No screenshots, or pictures with added or superimposed text. This includes image macros, comics, info-graphics and most diagrams. Text (e.g. a URL) serving to credit the original author is exempt.

This is an amazing picture, holy hell. It screams of tension, anger, and competition.

Oh man, I can't get over it.

[–]shamecamel 372 points373 points ago

right? it's like a god damn movie.

[–]sneakyness 472 points473 points ago

[–]Fauster 409 points410 points ago

Husky Voice: In a world, where politicians are bribed for ad time, and the impotent media doesn't question lies, TWO MEN meet in an actual no-holds-barred debate. One man is determined to set the record straight with continuous laughter, and another is determined to be more-liked than Sarah Palin. But WHO will win over the the hopelessly confused, public high school-educated undecided voters? The fate of the free world hangs in the balance, in The Debate.

[–]DAngelo_Barksdale 385 points386 points ago

how are you doing that voice?

[–]Sycosplat 87 points88 points ago

Fauster must have smoked from the age of 5 of something.

But dayum, his voice is amazing.

[–]bru_tech 52 points53 points ago

Turns out he's actually homeless. Whudathunk, amirite?

[–]IveGotTheBends 15 points16 points ago

In a drunken British voice: “On a lonely planet spinning its way toward damnation amid the fear and despair of a broken human race, who is left to fight for all that is good and pure and gets you smashed for under a fiver? Yes, it’s the surprising adventures of me, Sir Joseph Robinette Biden!”

As soon as the red light turns off, the studio lights follow and the strong warmth that they were emitting for the last hour or so starts to wear off. It feels like summer has ended and October swept in.

Both Ryan and Biden shake hands with the host and pose for the last set of pictures that will be sent around the globe moments later. Their fake smiles and rehearsed postures act like a dam. Protecting both them and the people they’re trying to impress. Behind and in front of the curtain.

“You did pretty well, grandpa. No bathroom breaks, no diaper checks. You did fine” whispers Ryan through his teeth.

Someone at the back of the room yells stop and reporters immediately stop taking photos and start leaving the room. Just as Ryan is about to do the same, Biden grabs him by his triceps with such force that Ryan needs to stop and force himself not to cry out in pain. Biden slowly leans in.

“This ain’t my first rodeo, boy. And if you think some bread-state-republican-punk is gonna lecture me about campaigning you better goddamn think long and hard before opening your yapper the next time we meet. And call me sir. Sir, grandpa”

[–]Bthulhu 33 points34 points ago

Biden is played by Eastwood in my mind. Don't think he'll take the role out here.

[–]AwesomeNameGenerator 35 points36 points ago

Ryan is played by an empty chair with big ears.

[–]killyourego 14 points15 points ago

Harold Harrison Ford would be a better pick... eastwood is just too old and decrepit

[–]PaintedinRed 8 points9 points ago

I thought this was going somewhere COMPLETELY different...

[–]rustyshacklford 7 points8 points ago

Vice-presidential debate fan fiction would not be complete without little homoerotic whispers.

[–]Bamaboy2009 16 points17 points ago

it looks like a romantic tragedy

"Two men set against each other. Two Hearts torn apart. A love they could not show. A bond that would last forever."

Debate: A Love Story

[–]kavorka2 4 points5 points ago

Rockly III. "I'm gonna bust you up"

[–]crampedstyl 40 points41 points ago

I think it was just taken at the right moment, if you watch the video there seemed to be none of that. Watch it here.

[–]keithbelfast 37 points38 points ago

It's just as they are breaking hands. They are both quick to drop their smiles, showing a bit of real tension. Very well captured.

[–]CardboardHeatshield 6 points7 points ago

I think there has to be at least one instant where the fake smiles are gone, and the true feeling between the two comes out. I think this picture is taken at that exact moment.

[–]MerelyIndifferent 2 points3 points ago

Its all about the microexpressions. They dropped their facade just before they walked past each other.

[–]ziggybiggnutts 158 points159 points ago

Now kiss

[–]FilsDeCric 22 points23 points ago

I'm shocked and appalled no one has shopped this picture with that as the heading.

[–]xblindguardianx 10 points11 points ago

I came here to laugh at said picture... the internet let me down.

[–]never_knows_best 69 points70 points ago

And homoeroticism.

[–]Fillyblunts 7 points8 points ago

I'd like someone to photoshop it to them kissing.

[–]UpGoaTedThis 6 points7 points ago

God damnit, why do I always have to click these?

[–]joshy1234 867 points868 points ago

Ryan- "You think you're too cool for school, but I got a newsflash for you Walter Cronkite... you arent."

Biden- "Who you tryin to get crazy with ese... don't you know I'm loco?"

[–]fingertrollin 73 points74 points ago

You think your shit don't stink?

Well it does. It stinks like shit

[–]rokyrakoon103 2 points3 points ago

You wanna go?

[–]TeenieWeenie1202 71 points72 points ago

That Biden, he's so hot right now. So hot.

[–]Doomfield 17 points18 points ago

Biden. So hot right now, Biden.

[–]danowar 16 points17 points ago

You think you're hot shit in a champagne glass, but you're really cold diarrhea in a dixie cup.

[–]theamazingkylun 96 points97 points ago

For the longest time I felt like I was the only person who had seen Zoolander

[–]g0_west 182 points183 points ago

[–]fireflyish 7 points8 points ago

IT'S A WALK-OFF! ....sigh It's a walk-off.

[–]jmWaka25 2 points3 points ago

i throw this line around in response to anything that is disappointing, but with which i must make due.

[–]joayo 14 points15 points ago

I thought of Cypress Hill when I read that. Which is the origin of the second line.

Maybe I'm the only one.

[–]blacksteyraug 13 points14 points ago

Zoo what?

[–]corytheboyd 14 points15 points ago

Well, at least I got the joke you tried to make.

[–]flamingboard 15 points16 points ago

[–]arcooke 36 points37 points ago

[–]110110 137 points138 points ago

Biden: Well.. Ryan, I am going to be your new father.

[–]K1dn3yPunch 31 points32 points ago

If that happened I would laugh for days at the absurdity. I hope those two hook up now.

[–]Havitech 40 points41 points ago

Somewhere, there's an alternate universe where this has already happened and Biden's responses to Ryan at the debate were always, "yeah, well I fucked your mom!"

[–]Timbuk2000 8 points9 points ago

I think Biden is classy enough to go the "Now Paul, what did your mother and I tell you about lying?" route instead.

[–]billin 182 points183 points ago

Seriously, that's Ryan's mom?? Her eyes say, "I will gut you for what you did to my boy" while her mouth says, "while I am riding you like a wild bronco, you handsome devil, you!"

[–]discobolus 24 points25 points ago

covers eyes ready to boink.... covers mouth WANTS TO MURDER YOU

[–]scruffydad 8 points9 points ago

That's a lady who likes what she sees.

[–]collinc2343 19 points20 points ago

Damn, she wants to make another go as a mom huh? Dems some "fuck me Biden" eyes.

[–]pluckydame 194 points195 points ago

Hope everyone brought their dancin' shoes, 'cause it's about time for a rumble.

[–]Truesday 140 points141 points ago

Looks exactly like a Pre-Fight stare down.

I think all debates should end in a fist fight.

[–]scorpion347 29 points30 points ago

Considering we are currently trying to decide the head of our military and his replacement if things go wrong... it really wouldn't hurt to see if they know how to fight.

[–]flamingboard 77 points78 points ago

Presidents don't fight wars anymore. That's why we have poor people.

[–]Rohan21166 37 points38 points ago

At least once, I want to see a president in the front lines preparing his men.

Like a king.

[–]KungFuHamster 59 points60 points ago

And then, bam, shot dead by a sniper. Not such a good plan, really.

[–]Abbysvirl 20 points21 points ago

This kills the War

[–]smerek84 4 points5 points ago

We'd have elections more often, that's for sure. And I bet most of these assholes would be much more reluctant to run for president, let alone drag us into a war. Sounds like a great plan to me. In fact, why don't we turn the elections into some type of "Hunger Games", or better yet, make it like 1987's "The Running Man".

[–]goralph 16 points17 points ago

[–]Alex7302 5 points6 points ago

FTFY: Roosevelt the badass

[–]jfarelli 12 points13 points ago

The only sitting president to ever lead troops was Washington, and that was during the Whiskey Rebellion. Madison tried to organize a defense of Washington, D.C. during the War of 1812, but retreated. So it's been a long, long time.

[–]KoopaTroopaa 4 points5 points ago

But we have had combat veterans in office.

[–]ChrisOfTheReddit 3 points4 points ago

Why don't presidents fight the war?!? Why do they always send the poor?!?

[–]jumbohumbo 3 points4 points ago

That was quick. And unexpectedly well done.

[–]wmurray003 10 points11 points ago

It was.

[–]MoralisticFaggots 49 points50 points ago

This was them shaking hands btw. . .

Did you guys watch the debate? They got up, walked towards each other behind the table, smiled, shook hands, gave each other a pat on the arm while doing so, and kept going.

They may have hated each other, but this "moment" of confrontation never happened.

[–]loki00 53 points54 points ago

This campaign is not about truth, so you just shush your word hole.

[–]worff 13 points14 points ago

It did for a split second. Politicians can conceal all sorts of angry looks in smiles.

[–]myriad 19 points20 points ago

Photographers can create all sorts of angry looks in smiles.

[–]yhelothere 6 points7 points ago

[–]MattieShoes 46 points47 points ago

Paul Ryan reminds me of Gabe from The Office.

[–]TheOneJosh 4 points5 points ago

I honestly do not see the resemblance besides them both having dark hair and being white.

[–]zarentina 5 points6 points ago

Horribly misleading photo, after the debate they shook hands spoke a few words and actually had a few smiles.

[–]omphalos008 2 points3 points ago

MORTAL KOMBAT

[–]MikkyfinN 156 points157 points ago

I believe that look from Ryan says. "but, everyone said you were a bumbling old man"

[–]usernameblank 127 points128 points ago

Malarkey!

[–]Osiris32 70 points71 points ago

[–]LNMagic 27 points28 points ago

Easy...

[–]flamingboard 12 points13 points ago

It also says, "Shit they asked for facts and information tonight."

[–]bahhumbugger 10 points11 points ago

Biden - "that's what it's like to get your shit pushed in kid"

[–]VisibleCunt 4 points5 points ago

I do have to say, Ryan held his ground.

[–]Opium_War_victim 9 points10 points ago

Fight.

[–]JoeyQuoms 5 points6 points ago

PR: "You're going down, old man." JB: "LOL, who are you?"

[–]SirRonaldofBurgundy 67 points68 points ago

Ryan's jimmies were incredibly rustled by the end. Joe Biden's jimmies are eternal.

[–]GacysCrawlspace 2 points3 points ago

[–]Richeh 37 points38 points ago

Biden's jimmies are the only thing that would survive a nuclear holocaust. The roaches would be using them as a holy totem.

[–]1138311 5 points6 points ago

"Suck it, junior"

[–]JizzblasterBoris 117 points118 points ago

That's a look of fear on Ryan's face.

Biden may come off as a kind of fumbling old man, prone to gaffes, but the man's the VP and he's been in politics for a very long time. He knows how to play the game...

[–]penis-butter 86 points87 points ago

Then what the fuck happened to the pres in the debate?

[–]scorpion347 73 points74 points ago

He actually has very little experience. He was not a congressman for long at all before running.

[–]douglasmacarthur 36 points37 points ago

*Senator

Technically a Senator is a type of congressman but it's not really apropos to call them that. Usually that term is reserved for representatives.

[–]ostrakon 168 points169 points ago

Has little to do with experience. Romney's tactic was absolutely brilliant - who could have predicted he'd have the balls to outright lie about everything he's said on the campaign trail so far? He knows his base is voting for him no matter what, and the undecideds are only that way because they specifically haven't been laying attention.

Obama was prepared to go in there and debate Romney, not Romney from Dimension Theta. He even mentioned it a few times - like the whole 'never mind' comment.

The reason Biden did so much better is because now the Obama team is aware of the fact that they are dealing with a post-factual campaign, and the only way to combat that is to be abrasive and not let your opponent get away with any of the potential lies they're trying to tell. You need to expand your arsenal of ways to explicitly refute the central points of your opponent's absurd statements.

Obama went in trying to finish a wounded opponent - Romney was on his last legs. What he got instead was a complete sociopath.

[–]Druuseph 67 points68 points ago

Romney destroyed the format which is exactly what he needed to do to dominate the tempo. Obama went in thinking he could just talk past his opponent rather than engage which is a legitimate strategy when you don't want to appear negative or combative. When the moderator was made totally ineffectual by Romney it was on Obama to change strategy and engage more but he refused to. You could see on his face at times that he had an answer he swallowed because he just failed to adapt to the reality of the night.

[–]ox_ 12 points13 points ago

It's so strange how Obama refuses to play politics during debates. He never really attacks his opponents. Why didn't he call Romeny out on this bullshit? His advisors must be going mental backstage. He never even mentioned th 47% comment!

I read a really good article recently about how John Edwards basically won the nomination for Obama by tearing Hilary Clinton to shreds during the debate and then stepping aside because he couldn't win back public favour after his affair.

[–]killyourego 9 points10 points ago

Obama is pretty classy for a politician. I don't really like him but I do respect him for this

[–]helgaofthenorth 14 points15 points ago

That man could be running the country soon!

I know most of reddit is with me on this, so it's probably nothing new, but Romney scares the bejeezus out of me. I don't know all the details because I'm consciously trying to avoid them (politics make me miserable), but who does that?!

Also he believes in magic underwear. I cannot get past that.

[–]Sky_Armada 20 points21 points ago

Not trying to be an ass, but it'd be awesome to really look into these people. If you're only getting your info from reddit it is going to be very filtered and biased.

[–]homeboy5925 13 points14 points ago

Obama got caught off guard. Romney went full retard and retracted pretty much everything he had ever said before that date. Obama didn't know how to counter.

[–]Strideo 7 points8 points ago

That's Obama's excuse. It's pretty much a lie too and I've lost respect for Obama because of it.

Obama got his ass handed to him in the debate and he'd rather look at his podium than engage his opponent and now he's going around making excuses for himself. This makes him look really bad.

Politifact also confirmed most of Romney's statements as being true or mostly true. I wasn't a Romney fan but I think he won that debate fair and square.

[–]xfloggingkylex 6 points7 points ago

That's pretty brave of you to post on reddit. Nice to see some people do their own research though.

[–]Strideo 6 points7 points ago

It worries me that so many people take up the cause of a party and staunchly defend that party's position and whatever that party represents because it's their "team" and, by god, their team is right!

[–]LostChildinSnow 19 points20 points ago

...closer...

[–]stevezombie 10 points11 points ago

You know, everyone is talking about how much tension there is in this pic. I'm reading things like "It screams of tension, anger, and competition.", "I have never seen more fear in someone's eyes...". But what if the it wasn't like that at all. What if the conversation was something along the lines of Ryan telling Biden that the Apple Bees they had last night was really giving him the shits, and Biden is replying with something like "well I've got some antacid in the car, and some diarrhea medication...how about we skip Apple Bees tonight and go for some take out back at the White House?"

[–]nbomb220 4 points5 points ago

I think they were just shaking hands..

[–]CheezusRiced06 1 point2 points ago

I feel like the phrases "hey butthead" and "say hi to your mom for me" were used.

[–]mikeyros484 3 points4 points ago

I like to think they say nasty shit to each other when they first come out smiling and greet each other before the debate, and it's actually fun to commentate while watching. "Heyyyy what's up, dickface?" "Nothin much, cuntbag. How is having no penis working out for you?" "Good question, asshole. Ask your wife."

[–]liartellinglies 2 points3 points ago

They look like they're about to break out into some angry, violent, awesome sex.

[–]wmurray003 -1 points0 points ago

Biden: "Man, I'll bitch slap you."

[–]darchangel 2 points3 points ago

"I wish I could quit you"

[–]feared_rear_admiral 0 points1 point ago

"you're going down, fucker"

[–]madibelll 2 points3 points ago

[–]justmeee 0 points1 point ago

Goddamnit Joe Biden is a fucking bad ass.

[–]_____rs 56 points57 points ago

"You picked the wrong geezer to fuck with, muscle boy. I've got boils on my ass older than you. You're going down faster than a White House intern."

[–]Cadamar 3 points4 points ago

I feel like I'd enjoy reading a fanfic based around reddit's version of bad ass, old man Biden.

[–]Iserlohn 8 points9 points ago

The Onion already did this. They have Diamond Joe, who likes to wash his Trans Am shirtless and hitchhiked to the DNC.

In the middle of tonight’s debate between Joe Biden and Rep. Paul Ryan (R-WI), Centre College security guards were forced to remove from the auditorium five of the vice president’s loud and unruly friends: Darius, Blaze, Tank, House Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi, and Dozer.

Seriously though, they have a whole bunch of articles building up this persona. He even took over their twitter during the debate.

[–]mouthbabies 23 points24 points ago

It's nice to see a serious "Fuck you" look from a Democrat. Ryan has the expression of a bully trying to still seem tough as he's confronted by someone he knows he can't handle.

I don't know who I'm going with yet. The one promising two cars in every garage or the one promising a turkey in every oven.

Biden did what Obama couldn't. He handled the debate as it should have been handled.

I just wish Reddit wasn't such a stuck up and biased community. Sorry guys, but I'm going to have to call you on your bullshit. Obama's loss in the first debate was barely even directly addressed. Romney dominates the debate? "What a lying cheating bastard! Let's laugh at the two week late lame-ass Big Bird response!" Biden dominates the debate? "Great victory! Let's all circle jerk over this picture!"

Unreal.

Obama's loss in the first debate was barely even directly addressed.

Say what? It was all over the damned place. While the butthurt was ever-present, general consensus seemed to be that Obama had, in fact, performed poorly. No one liked it, and there was much speculating and grasping of straws, but people were disappointed in his performance.

[–]Offensive_Username2 3 points4 points ago

Biden directly contradicted the state department on the issue of security requests by the embassy.

If Biden was a Republican everyone on this site would be calling him a liar.

[–]afallingbomb 6 points7 points ago

Everyone admitted that Obama performed poorly. You don't have to like Obama to be upset that Romney lied about every god damn thing he said. I know a lot of Romney supporters who were pissed off about that. The fact that there are some people who think we should ignore it and just say "good job winning the debate Romney!" astounds me. If Biden had won this debate by switching all his positions farther to the right and ignoring all his previous stances, he'd be getting the same reaction. But he didn't. He won this debate by...debating.

A lot of things on reddit are a circlejerk. Since 90% of the time it is, you should focus on calling it out on one of those other times, instead of one of the cases where it's right. Romney's tactic was brilliant, but it should not be accepted unless you want politics to turn into an even uglier thing than what it already is.

[–]malicious_swine 2 points3 points ago

Maybe instead of whining that nobody directly addressed it, you should directly address it.

[–]TheAbsurdist 14 points15 points ago

Anybody that has addressed it is downvoted into oblivion. Even people on the republican subreddit get downvoted by the insecure and pathetic cunts that comb this subreddit.

[–]SkaterLoLPlayer 4 points5 points ago

As much as I love the Captain Planet "The power is yours!" advice you're giving me, you have to realize that it doesn't really work like that on Reddit.

See, this isn't exactly moderate territory around here. Some comments are upvoted, and some are downvoted. Moderate comments are not among the upvoted ones. Neither are those which actually criticize Obama. I'd talk about the more right-winged comments on Reddit, but I've honestly seen so few that I really have no idea.

Upvoting creates the bias on Reddit. It's a bad system for discussion because threads like these inevitably become circle jerks over the dominant opinion.

[–]duglock 3 points4 points ago

You can tell it is a photoshop because Biden isn't laughing like an idiot.

[–]Grumpsh 2 points3 points ago

The young and strong and the old and weak. I mean the politics. Biden's sneering grinning interupting tactics might have impressed the press, but I think the undecided voters went for the serious, focused younger guy who seemed to take the issues seriously. When someones talking about unemployment and war, you shouldn't be grinning like its all a big joke to you.

"Better luck next time, kid."

[–]neir 43 points44 points ago

From what I hear, not that i really care as I'm not an American, Biden got off to a good start but Ryan finished quite strong. Quite an even debate, is what I hear.

[–]argumentalist 21 points22 points ago

I felt like Biden almost came on too strong.

It was refreshing, initially, to see him so energetically defending his position. After seeing Obama asleep at the podium, I was expecting the worst.

But as the debate wore one, and Biden kept grinning and laughing, it kind of soured me on him. He obviously knew what he was talking about, he obviously cared about his opinion, and that's good... But Ryan was obviously outclassed, and Biden knew it, and it almost felt like he was enjoying kicking the puppy around. Kind of felt like he ought to be at least a little respectful to his competition.

Ryan got some very heartfelt stuff in. Said some nice words. Did score a couple solid points. But, ultimately, it didn't feel like there was much substance there. Absolutely no details. He wouldn't even state clearly who was going to pay more taxes and who was going to pay less when the moderator asked that question directly (Biden was able to provide a very simple answer).

Biden came across as confident, knowledgeable, and cocky.

Ryan came across as inexperienced, flustered, and vague.

[–]MrFidel 3 points4 points ago

Uhh... Biden was acting the way he always acts. Just watch videos of him. People are just making a bigger deal of it because of the contrast to the Obama Romney debate.

[–]astronoob 7 points8 points ago

For the most part, it seems like the reception is that Biden did very, very well. Ryan is getting a lot of credit, though, and deservedly so. He has pretty much no debate experience and was able to keep his composure against a very tough, aggressive opponent. But honestly, it's not really close. Biden did a great job.

The problem is that historically, VP debates don't really do that much. Lots of partisans get fired up, but most people tend not to care. That may be different this election since Ryan is such a controversial figure and more people may have been paying attention, but I doubt it will really count for much.

The fact that you're being downvoted for this is so disappointing. Reddit can be frustrating sometimes. Even the liberal media is saying it was a tie.
