It was like watching an ECW match or something. I was waiting for Biden to pull a ladder from out under the table.

[–]m_bird13 74 points75 points ago

ah...people still remember ECW...if only a 'holy shit' crowd chant would happen at one of the debates

[–]tenillusions 13 points14 points ago

if only i could cover them with chairs

[–]IrrelevantComment- 19 points20 points ago

Error 404 fuck not found

[–]titan413 7 points8 points ago

[–]BadDudes 55 points56 points ago

The first hour of the debate.

Ryan got buried.

Comparing Obama's debate with Bidens you could say--in wrestling terms--that Biden was like Stone Cold, and Obama was like the Brooklyn Brawler.

[–]m_bird13 18 points19 points ago

or even better, that was a squash match

[–]CloseCannonAFB 5 points6 points ago

That clip never fails to give me a warm nostalgic buzz. I lived, breathed, and slept ECW as a teenager.

[–]mdax8414 2 points3 points ago

Anyone see (at the end) the wrestler chuck the chair blindly into the stands behind him?

Sheesh.

[–]supasteve013 2 points3 points ago

Sooo you're saying biden 'won'?

[–]BadDudes 16 points17 points ago

I don't know what he won, but he sure did beat Ryan.

[–]scumbag-reddit 11 points12 points ago

Not according to CNN. Hard to even make that argument when he acted like a child the whole night.

[–]StuntPanda 4 points5 points ago

Romney spent the term of the last debate on a high energy lying spree. By the end he was almost unanimously declared the victor. I saw this preformance as the next logical progression from an indignant opposotion.

[–]Judg3Smails[!] 2 points3 points ago

I think bagadouche is a more appropriate term.

[–]BadDudes 3 points4 points ago

CNN: 48% Ryan. 44% Biden. 5% margin of error.

CBS: 50% Biden. 31% Ryan.

CNN:

SPECIAL NOTE OF CAUTION #2: The sample of debate-watchers in this poll were 31% Democratic and 33% Republican. That indicates that the sample of debate watchers is about eight points more Republican than an average CNN poll of all Americans, so the respondents were more Republican than the general public.

http://www.dailykos.com/story/2012/10/12/1143451/-CNN-Snap-Poll-Admits-Oversampling-Republicans

How did he act like a child exactly? He called Ryan out on his lies, and revealed all of Ryan's hypocrisy/contradictions.

Lying, and omission are childish, so, I'd say Ryan was the child.

[–]NotTroll 1 point2 points ago

If you say he "acted like a child" I'm assuming for not having any self bearing or composure due to his constant grinning... What does that make Ryan for telling lies?

[–]citypig88 5 points6 points ago

the "winner" it's called

[–]NotTroll 1 point2 points ago

If you call a manipulative liar with no backbone, who dodges questions (koran burning) a "winner" in your book, have fun with that, speaks volumes about his supporters. Also, if you're getting your facts regarding who was the "winner" from CNN. Youregonnahaveabadtime.jpg

[–]citypig88 0 points1 point ago

if Obama entered a milk-chugging contest with Mitt Romney the winner would be whoever could chug the most milk, not the person who has the better budget for the year.

[–]Vik1ng 8 points9 points ago

[–]CloseCannonAFB 7 points8 points ago

As a wrestling fan, I saw it more like watching and old pro, perhaps Arn Anderson, twist apart some jobber like a rotisserie chicken. Predetermined, of course, but there are certain ways limbs aren't meant to bend...

[–]_ass 1 point2 points ago

[–]aTm2012 41 points42 points ago

FTFY

[–]dodgamnbonofasitch 15 points16 points ago

When the camera was on Ryan alone I was just waiting for Biden's fist to enter screen left and hit him in the smirker.

[–]Yserbius 6 points7 points ago

Was I the only one who saw Biden otherwise? It seems everyone is calling him "Brash and powerful, standing up for himself!" while all I saw was "Arrogant and pompous, constantly interrupting both Ryan and the moderator".

[–]xCall911 4 points5 points ago

Reddit is s far left its hilarious. There is no point to even try and argue here. Anytime you talk about the other guy you will be down voted. Scumbag Reddit

[–]thelandsman55 1 point2 points ago

Reddit is center left, what's more certain liberal opinions tend to get far more hate then stuff like libertarianism which is arguably super far right. People tend to get more team oriented when you get into election season as to which party/candidate they want to win, but Reddit is at most moderately pro-obama, with very few people actually being socialists or communists or other groups that are considered far left and a far amount of people who are libertarian and other groups considered far right.

[–]wonmean 2 points3 points ago

Did you do the same for Mr. Romney?

After all, Mr. Biden at least did it with the backing of reality.

[–]boredwaitingforlife 33 points34 points ago

Why do they have the Presidential candidates stand while the VP candidates sit for the debates?

[–]Epoh 58 points59 points ago

Because leg kicks would fly if they could stand.

[–]boredwaitingforlife 16 points17 points ago

What did you just say?

[–]Mofasa13 47 points48 points ago

HE SAID BECAUSE LEG KICKS WOULD FLY IF THEY COULD STAND!!!

[–]boredwaitingforlife 17 points18 points ago

THANK YOU! NOW IT IS CLARIFIED THAT I HEARD THE RESPONSE MORE CLEARLY, CAN YOU EXPLAIN WHAT HE MEANS?

[–]Epoh 14 points15 points ago

[–]scorpion347 4 points5 points ago

Ever see that movie where Patrick Swayze breaks a guys leg and then tells his friend that a man who can't use his legs can't fight. Well, its like that but instead they can't stand.

[–]Lots42 2 points3 points ago

A man with broken legs can still use his arms to aim a machine gun.

[–]boredwaitingforlife 0 points1 point ago

No which movie?

[–]RESET-REWIND 2 points3 points ago

I think it's decided by the hosts of the debates. Last year for the VP debates they stood. Over here in Canada they sit at the debates.

[–]Thomz0rz 9 points10 points ago

What? Giancarlo Esposito being a badass? Where is this from?!

[–]Carrue 9 points10 points ago

It's actually from The Box(2007). It's the best 8 seconds of the entire movie.

[–]OmegaSeven 5 points6 points ago

It's a pretty fucking awesome 8 seconds.

I'm really starting to like Mr. Esposito as an actor. He was great in Breaking Bad and his character on Revolution is also a very engaging villain so far.

[–]CoolMoose 2 points3 points ago

It's from The Box.

[–]jabberworx 2 points3 points ago

Biden knows how to debate... Obama had an even better opportunity to do this but he came unprepared.

[–]krepitus 5 points6 points ago

Romney used the Gish Gallop on him. It's pretty ham handed, and I think the president expected Romney to have a little integrity.

[–]Godunderscor 3 points4 points ago

Oh my shit - that was glorious.

[–]MUSTY_BALLSACK 169 points170 points ago

I think we have officially beaten the shit out of the "I don't give a fuck" line, and all variations thereof.

I'm always surprised to find fellow Redditors who watch Skins.

And it's always in response to this gif.

[–]archetech 0 points1 point ago

It really drew me in at first. Sid, Casey and even Tony at times, were great characters. It started to get too ridiculous for me though. How many absurdly terrible things can happen to one character in one episode? But they really lost me on the second generation. For me, Cook crossed the line from unbelievable to unwatchable.

Its supposed to be "look at all the fucks I give" not "... don't give". As with the gone with the wind meme, gesturing towards nothing with "look at all the fucks I Give" = I don't give a fuck. This meme is misused all the time.

[–]Tensuke 29 points30 points ago

You mean The Sound of Music, bro.

[–]Odusei 39 points40 points ago

"Frankly my dear, look at all the fucks I don't give."

[–]wfarber1 5 points6 points ago

Right you are, For whatever reason those two are the same in my head

[–]stash0606[S] 15 points16 points ago

Right you are. I admit I made a grammatical error. It's being a double negative here. Sorry. I blame the Spider-Man macro with the same caption for my error .

[–]HoHoNOPE 17 points18 points ago

[–]stash0606[S] 12 points13 points ago

[–]CloseCannonAFB 4 points5 points ago

I don't think I'm the only one who's pretty sure Joe really wanted to say 'bullshit' rather than 'malarkey', but caught it at the last second.

[–]itchymuller 0 points1 point ago

[–]25_Cent_Booch 3 points4 points ago

The "don't" in the spiderman version is due to the fact that there are actually objects falling from the sky. If it was "Look at all the fucks I give" with objects falling it would imply the person did give fucks.

In the case of the Biden pic there's nothing falling from the sky, suggesting that it should be the standard "Look at all the fucks I give".

[–]stash0606[S] 2 points3 points ago

Spiderman again fucks me over.

[–]freeeedom 3 points4 points ago

Played a drinking game last night. Anytime Ryan drank, we drank. Anytime Biden laughed, we drank.

Needless to say we were sufficiently plastered by the end of the debate.

[–]functionOf 25 points26 points ago

Well that's not very professional

[–]nihil2909 5 points6 points ago

He certainly gave a class act performance tonight didn't he...

[–]ffsshhgrgl 25 points26 points ago

Usually I'd leave it, but just to rustle your jimmies I'll point out that when confronted with a question about whether or not they ever feel ashamed about how negative their campaigns have gotten, Ryan went on a several minute long negative fear mongering tirade, and just to make it extra special he looped it back to "if you have a bad record, you sell your opponent as someone to run from" as something bad Obama has done. It's like all the shame is gone. Forget fucks, where did all of the self awareness go?

[–]pagodapagoda 9 points10 points ago

I sense the butthurt is great with this one...

[–]nihil2909 0 points1 point ago

How am I butthurt? I have no interest in Ryan, nor voting for Romney... What I can say is I thought Biden's rude behavior of interrupting while Ryan was given 2 minutes to talk was bad protocol and not how you carry on a debate. You wait 2 minutes, take note, then rebuttal during your 2 minutes, not sit there and make faces/laugh, then interrupt every 10 seconds.

[–]SloshyBro 0 points1 point ago

Yeah that sneer he kept making was annoying the hell out of me. He came off as an aggressive douche. He had absolutely zero respect for his opponent. VP Joe Biden.. one classy guy.

At least Ryan handled it well, and put him in his place with that comment about saying the wrong thing all the time. Biden turned so red!

[–]Hurricane043 9 points10 points ago

If your debate opponent is talking a bunch of malarkey, it is in your prerogative to interrupt him and say why he is wrong. Ryan wasn't saying anything worthy of much respect, and not to mention, it isn't necessary for the VP to give a whole lot of respect to a Congressman. Biden did what he should have done, it's Ryan's fault for not returning the favor.

[–]SloshyBro 0 points1 point ago

Right, because there's nothing like a debate that ceases to be a debate and becomes a shouting match.. That's actually the most productive way to gauge political stances; by how much a politician can disrespect and interrupt the other guy..

Does it hurt at all when you have to trump common sense with unabashed support for an asshole, all because of your political leanings; or is that "view" simply for imaginary internet points and you whore your view out to the highest bidder with no regrets?

[–]SloshyBro 1 point2 points ago

Saw the upvotes and and had to double reply..

Is this really the opinion of liberals on reddit: "I don't agree with what he says, so being as disruptive as possible is absolutely a viable defense for the VICE PRESIDENT OF THE UNITED STATES OF AMERICA during an important debate.."?

Are there any adult liberals here that have an opinion on Bidens attitude last night? I didn't know Annoying Childhood Friend had multiple accounts on Reddit.

[–]FatZombieMama 2 points3 points ago

I'm 42 and liberal, don't know if that counts as an adult. I thought Biden was entertaining, engaging, and appropriate. If Ryan's talking for 2 minutes and Biden wants to loop back to call BS on one point, waiting and explaining isn't going to be effective for a TV audience. Breaking the fourth wall with a 'can you believe this shit?' look in real time works. I think he spanked Ryan and hope/assume Obama's gonna come out swinging harder next time since it obviously works.

[–]Hurricane043 0 points1 point ago

Say you are in a debate with someone in front of millions of people that will be voting you into an office that is a heartbeat away from being the most powerful man in the world. Your friend, who is the most powerful man in the world, recently looked like a fool and you need to right the ship before he loses too much ground.

Your opponent is talking for 2 minutes on a very controversial topic. You and your opponent both have widely differing opinions and data. As he talks, you realize that the data he has is not true. He is feeding the millions of viewers that will be voting between the two wrong information, and that information is information they want to hear.

What are you going to do? Are you going to (a) wait 2 minutes and then sacrifice some of your own 2 minute argument time to present your own points by trying to counter your opponent's points, after your opponent has already had an impact on the thoughts of the audience, or (b) immediately point out that your opponent is wrong and present evidence to counter it.

If you said a, then you have no knowledge of debate strategy and so your opinions on this topic are irrelevant. If you said b, then you agree with me.

[–]rotorkq 12 points13 points ago

Respect has to be earned. The only thing Ryan has earned is a reputation for being a con artist.

[–]Roseysdaddy 17 points18 points ago

I thought he looked like I do when I know someone is blatantly shitting on the truth. Paul Ryan's closing statement looked like something from snl too.

[–]Silversuns -1 points0 points ago

I really have to wonder how detached from reality some of you Americans are. I suppose stupidity knows no borders.

[–]iforgotmypen 23 points24 points ago

"Friend"? Are you using that word in the Biden sense, meaning "that little lying fuckshit on the other side of the table"?

[–]MissDez 5 points6 points ago

Lawyers often use "my honorable friend" or "my learned friend" in court when they pretty much want to call the opposing side a moron, jackass, liar, etc. Used a lot in Canadian parliament too. First time I've seen it used so much in USA.

[–]TallRedditor 4 points5 points ago

Right? I'm ready for Biden to just fuck shit up.

[–]ThaKarmaPolice 0 points1 point ago

I may have missed something, but this is the exact opposite message that Biden delivered.

[–]Wonderfat 0 points1 point ago

Half of the debate was Biden laughing at the idea of other countries hating us...

[–][deleted] -1 points0 points ago

He is an rude asshole. Smirking like that, he needed a punch in the face.

[–]throwaway232211 0 points1 point ago

Yeah he evidently doesn't give a fuck considering his condescending laughs and smirks while they were discussing Libya, a nuclear Iran, the economy et al. Definitely inspires confidence.. this asshat is one heartbeat away from the presidency.

[–]Sharkc2 0 points1 point ago

If he is telling us to look at all the fucks he "doesn't" give. Doesn't that mean if no fucks appear he gives all the fucks.

[–]Snuffleupasaurus 0 points1 point ago

Everyone talks about how much of an ass Biden was with his smile, but I thought that Ryan's was just as bad at points as evident in this picture.

[–]abfool10 0 points1 point ago

I don't mean to be that guy but it is clear that the Republican Party is dominating the debates so far. Downvote me if you want but that's my opinion

[–]Hoonin 1 point2 points ago

Biden interrupted Ryan 82 times, even laughing hysterically about policies involving a possible nuclear Iran. Do you guys not care that this man can be president at any moment. Reading these comments has definitely made me lose hope in the future of the United States.

[–]SloshyBro 1 point2 points ago

The majority of Redditors are liberal college students that largely do not own property such as a home, have a job that pays a decent salary, or have any actual experience on the other end of foreign policy (being deployed in service to their country).

Because of this, the only real investment they have in politics boils down to popular opinion, and student loans. At that age, it's trendy to feign political activism. Their candidate is often chosen based on charisma and popularity over policy. In fact, I don't believe Reddit's majority of liberals are very different than the Majority of Obama's Supporters. Missing any actual incentive to base their vote on real policy differences, over campaigning and mud slinging; I can completely see why Romney laid into Obama during the debate, but Romney's statement about PBS was #1 of Reddit's topics.

The media is able to perpetuate falsehoods and absolute juxtapositions of key points made by any of Obama's opposition. Eventually once it has been heard enough, it is taken as truth, or the argument fades completely. It's sad that THIS PROCESS is the deciding factor of who gets to run one of the most powerful societies to ever have existed. It's sad that ignorance is encouraged by our society, then we wonder why the rest of the world is passing us by.

Ryan needs to be interrupted and laughed at, because he is a complete joke. He should have been laughed off of the national stage years ago. He is nothing but a pathological liar who bought in to his own hype.

Biden chaired the Senate Foreign Relations committee. I'm sure the guy knows plenty about Iran.

I totally agree. The world says that Ryan won the debate. I have no political bias. I've never voted and I won't be voting this year. But I did watch the debates. For an old guy, Biden needs to grow up a bit.

on what metric do you base this(outside observer)

Pictures making Biden and the Obama administration look good have been popping up on my front page every hour or so like clockwork since last nights debate ended. Every time there is a new one, the old one has already disappeared, leaving the posts that came up around the same time still there. I got to looking thru all the accounts making these posts and they are the most bland, generic accounts on the site. These people have no successful posts other than these random pictures that make Obama look good.

Sigh... I think it's time to find a new reddit.

Who would have thought my post would have been downvoted? I bet the person doing it is being paid to do it.

A debate with a plagiarist and a liar. We should really look into having cage matches instead of debates, or better yet competitions for the presidential nomination. I'm just saying we could do better shrugs

Of course, when you site Biden's plagiarism, nobody knows what you're talking about because they circle the wagons around Biden; then pretend that it never happened. I wish Ryan would have burned him with that during the debate: "is that condescending sneer your own view or did you steal it from someone else?"
