Dude, just a few days ago I was in my grad seminar class on moral psychology (I am a philosophy student), and I saw the funniest animated GIF of all time while someone was trying to explain an objection to what another student had said. I couldn't stop laughing, even as the professor was speaking. Mind you, these seminar classes are held in small conference rooms that house maybe a maximum of 20 persons.

The people I downvote are generally annoyed by downvotes: the fact that they are dismayed by something so petty and meaningless is reason enough to annoy them with downvotes. You see how it creates a positive feedback loop.
