Did you take this? If so, nice shot. Reminds me of a storm I got over Lake Michigan a few years ago.

This has been removed because it is a rehosted version of an approved host. Feel free to resubmit with the approved host.

Why is that even a rule?

[–]kjoneslol 0 points1 point ago

there are a lot of reasons

Okay I've looked through a few, but I don't feel they've really answered my question directly. So can you just put it simply for me: how does the rule help the subreddits it's used in?

[–]kjoneslol 0 points1 point ago

it's mostly in here. there is no way I'm going to retype all that stuff, that discussion lasted for months. I guess if you really want ti simply: you should always link to the original because it provides more information about the image and showcases the photographer's work so if you like that image then you'll probably like the others. There is also no reason to rehost an image from the original source since there is no improving (both images will last the same and have the same reliability as far as bandwidth goes).

Okay, I understand the rule. However, removing the post DOES almost surely ensure that less users will see the image. For example, my post was near the top of /r/skyporn, meaning all users visiting would definitely see it. If I were to repost it with the original host, it would not do as well, because the people that have seen the one I originally posted would likely ignore or downvote it, meaning not as many others would have the chance to see it. I don't know, I could be totally wrong but that's just what I think.

I don't really follow. Had you followed the rule it would be in the same place it is now but it would be going to the Flickr. We make the rule not to remove things and punish people but to prevent those things from happening. It's a bummer that it got taken down but I think it's a bummer you submitted it an imgur link with no exif data nor any information about the picture/photographer. You could wait a few days and submit the Flickr and I bet it would do just as well if not then well fuck :(

Yeah well I am to blame for not finding and crediting the owner.. I get lazy with that stuff. I may repost it with the original host, just to see what happens!

incredible. Why is this the first time I've seen a backlightninged cloud?
