for me it's usually "Can't go out tonight, got an CTA in EVE" to which my friends say "uh what?" then I explain to them that I play an online game with spaceships and it's quite a bit of serious business. they give me a concerned look and go about their business.

My roommate HATES Eve. hates it. she gets bummed out when i'm in my room playing for hours on end. Then I got into the DUST beta last june. She walks into the living room one night (she's an avid gamer also) and asks "oh what game is this? what are you playing?" to which I respond "Playing Eve Online" she then gets in my face and yells "IT'S ON THE TV NOW!?" and promptly storms out.

[–]Hachya 13 points14 points ago

Solution: go out with friends, come back hammered, get on Mumble....

Repeat.

[–]Rozo-D 5 points6 points ago

I do this...a lot.

[–]BallingerEscapePlan 5 points6 points ago

Bacon bar is basically a bar I drink at with nerds. Its also a land of hilarious trolls.

[–]WelsGallente 2 points3 points ago

I heard from reliable sources that playing EVE drunk is quite entertaining.

[–]Hachya 0 points1 point ago

I think it is true, but I can't remember...

[–]Rozo-D 0 points1 point ago

FCing while drunk is even better.

[–]nikomoCaldari 0 points1 point ago

I've heard that drinking makes the difference between jump and bridge even smaller.

Most of my roomates enjoy playing 'shooty boys' (call of duty, gta, any fps/explosion game) on the 'sexbox' (xbox). My current female roomate has showed a slight interest in 'space boys' and with the recent revelation that she is a big Dune/frank herbert fan I might try and turn her to the spaceship ways.

[–]Rozo-D 3 points4 points ago

My roommate is also a huge Dune fan but she's never really been interested in Eve Online. It's funny though because she's never really seen me play it, just talk about it. The problem is though she's said that she hates sandbox type games (games where you essentially can do whatever you want without having to adhere to a story) she likes games where there's a clear indication of what needs to be done and natural level progression. Therefore I don't think she'd like Eve as it's essentially the greatest sandbox game ever made. I've been playing the game for 9 years or so and I've never ONCE done an agent mission or any kind of storyline mission.

[–]kasdayeMinmatar 0 points1 point ago

She might enjoy games like Freelancer, and maybe to lesser extent, X3 though.

[–]Whiskeypants17 0 points1 point ago

I did a few- and want to try the epic arc stuff like the sisters missions.... but to be honest they are so clunky and awkward OR painfully easy you get bored really fast. If I have to kill some porn king one more time to try and raise my standings so I can do level 2 missions I will slap somebody.

If ccp could do something to better integrate them into the flow of the game it would be great~ otherwise they are just a guaranteed pirate grind.

Incursions are a bit more fun if you have a chance to try that out.

[–]duckylamMinmatar 18 points19 points ago

If you choose eve over going out with irl friends, you're bad at life.

[–]CyathemGallente 40 points41 points ago

It's called "prior commitment." If I made plans with my FC and someone calls afterwards to go out, I've already made a commitment and I'll be playing Eve that night. Same with the opposite. It's just courtesy. Super simple stuff.

[–]Rozo-D 8 points9 points ago

it's a rare occasion. Depends if i'm scheduled to FC.

[–]HuellioAmarr 4 points5 points ago

Depends on which friends want to go out.

[–]Ghostalker474Gallente 1 point2 points ago

Seriously, the game isn't going anywhere.

[–]LakshataAmarr 12 points13 points ago

But your PoS might be!

[–]NeltharakCaldari 0 points1 point ago

who cares, i get to rage at logistics for not evacuating AND get drunk with friends anyway.

Win-win situation right there.

[–]zanotamMinmatar 0 points1 point ago

I didn't necessarily agree with the other people who had similar sentiments, but the eloquence of your phrasing has changed my mind.

TL;DR That sounds way more fun than everyone else's justification for NOT going out with friends!

[–]NeltharakCaldari 0 points1 point ago

Once you went for some slosh ops, you tend to go back to them :D

[–]onfia 0 points1 point ago

Generally yes, but I personally resort to playing games during the school semester in college to avoid hanging out with friends who only like to party for fun. My grades have improved, and I'm overall happier.

[–]Secondsemblance 5 points6 points ago

CTA

Those are still a thing?

[–]Gerbil_JuiceAmarr 8 points9 points ago

In bad alliances.

[–]Rozo-D 1 point2 points ago

in my old Alliance it was. CTA's were mandatory.

[–]Secondsemblance 9 points10 points ago

Sorry bro. Hope you found a better alliance.

[–]Rozo-D 5 points6 points ago

indeed I did. i'm in Tribal Band now

[–]lethargic1Caldari 0 points1 point ago

Did Tribal Band used to be Aurora Shadow?

[–]fauxmosexualMinmatar 0 points1 point ago

It's Aurora Shadow and the 99 Percent merged, and maybe a few others.

[–]lethargic1Caldari 0 points1 point ago

Cool. I remember flying around a bit with Aurora Shadow when they moved to Serpentis Prime. At the time they were terrible at nullsec but good people. I had a lot of fun patrolling and trying to run cargo in and out of the system.

I logged out for a month, came back, and found myself alone in Serp Prime surrounded by hostiles. I'd heard they'd become a different corp, but I wasn't sure.

It's good to know some of them are still around. :)

[–]Darchseraph 0 points1 point ago

Err what exactly is a CTA and how would it possibly be enforced?

[–]Rozo-D 0 points1 point ago

CTA = Call To Action. So for example there's a POS coming out, etc the alliance needs everyone to participate. ED had a policy where if you weren't in the CTA (either you missed the rally point time or you simply didn't want to spend hours doing nothing) then you weren't allowed to be logged into the game. you had to log out. Basically they told you when you could and couldn't play. if you missed the CTA and were in game they more than likely would kick you out.

[–]Wartz 3 points4 points ago

CTA

Sounds like you're in an awful alliance. If you tell us which one I'll gladly point it out to the HBC and have it destroyed so you can be freed and join an alliance that allows you to do whatever you like to have fun. If that means logging off and going out with friends, then BY ALL MEANS DO IT. (and post pics afterwards of you getting shitfaced).

[–]Rozo-D 4 points5 points ago

WAS in an awful alliance. Just joined a HBC alliance this past week that is already 10x better than what I was in. Said alliance was Ethereal Dawn which is amusing in it's own right for their mandatory CTA policy. Essentially if you weren't in a CTA but you were logged in the game you had to log out and not play EVE.

[–]Wartz 1 point2 points ago

Well that's good.

[–]trashguy 0 points1 point ago

CFC

[–]Phygar 0 points1 point ago

CTA just means that anyone online needs to go on the fleet.

[–]Wartz 0 points1 point ago

Which is awful.

No one should be forced to have to join a fleet.

[–]Phygar -3 points-2 points ago

Now you're changing your argument. You're not forced to join the fleet. There's just no reason you should be out roaming or carebearing when there's an alliance op going on. And if you still want you can still do it, it's just not really good to do. There's no CTA police making sure everyone is in fleet.

[–][deleted] 1 point2 points ago

Disregard bitches, acquire currency, have fun.

[–]crazyamericanSerpentis -1 points0 points ago

When you mentioned your roommate hated eve, my initial thought was... is your roommate a chick? It appears I was right. In general women hate video games.

[–]CannedBrainsGuristas 17 points18 points ago

Yeah because EvE is all about Delve :D

[–]FylgjaSerpentis 11 points12 points ago

It could be argued that Delve has been one of the most historically important regions in the game though.

[–]TechnoL33TGallente 3 points4 points ago

Go on.

[–]FylgjaSerpentis 9 points10 points ago

I'm not super knowledgeable on all of Eve's history, but pretty much every major alliance has either lived there, or fought there over the years. BoB, Goons, TEST, PL, NC, probably more.

As far as I know its probably the bloodiest region of them all, it seems like most often than not, if there is a war it will end up in Delve at one point or another.

[–]TechnoL33TGallente 0 points1 point ago

Is there anything particularly great about Delve that makes it so desirable?

[–]Avoid_Calm 2 points3 points ago

True sec used to be broken and all systems were -1.0 sec status. I think this has been fixed though.

[–]afndale 5 points6 points ago

It has not been fixed, but that's not why it's significant.

Delve was significant because it contained a heinous selection of moons. Neodymium and Dysprosium out the ass, in moon income alone it could outproduce almost every other region combined back when Neo/Dys were the best moon mineral types. You could split nullsec into "Good regions" - Delve, and "Scrub Regions" - The Rest Of Them, which is why it was always under siege. Once Dys/Neo was nerfed relative to Tech, though, people kinda stopped caring about it. I mean, it is still a pretty valuable region, but it's not the same as it used to be.

[–]TechnoL33TGallente 2 points3 points ago

That was fountain.

[–]Gerbil_JuiceAmarr 0 points1 point ago

More than just Fountain has broken true-sec.

[–]TechnoL33TGallente 0 points1 point ago

Ok, sure. But now we're still left without anything that makes Delve any better than any other region.

[–]e-jammerMinmatar[S] 3 points4 points ago

I agree with you on the topic of Delve being overcovered in, well, everything. Its more that it sets the tone for the kind of characters you find out there in Nullsec. Space combat is fun, space combat with a wide variety of hordes all with their own type of insanity is even more fun :)

[–]endercoaster 14 points15 points ago

There's also the fact that Delve is controlled by HBC, which is run by TEST, which is run by Dreddit. Of course /r/eve is going to cover Delve extra heavily.

[–]Hachya 7 points8 points ago

Easy there with your logic.

[–]sobaski1Amarr 0 points1 point ago

The picture was made during the last delve campaign. It had relevance then, not so much now.

[–]bicycleryder69Amarr 35 points36 points ago

Whenever I am asked about Eve and what kind of people play it, I always start by explaining that the people who play it are some of the toughest, most resilient S.O.B.s in the gaming community because they managed to survive the Apocalypse Learning curve

It either scares them away or they're like "challenge accepted" and a new capsuleer is born.

[–]DheeradjSCaldari 15 points16 points ago

If they accept a challenge, they are a long way already

[–]TalkingBackAgainGallente 13 points14 points ago

I got a few awed 'really?' comments from guys, the hardcore FPS gamers, who tried EVE and thought they'd just clean this bitch up hahaaaa :-).

They couldn't chew through the learning curve. I've been at this for a week, how can I not be an expert at this yet?!

Maybe I can talk them into becoming Dust bunnies.

[–]DheeradjSCaldari 10 points11 points ago

No discipline means no wins for your team...

[–]nikomoCaldari 7 points8 points ago

Then again, if they don't play Dust, I might run out of targets.

[–]BobisOnlyBobCaldari 4 points5 points ago

Definitely get 'em on DUST. They've got transferable skills from other shooters and could use something with a little more continuity, something most FPSes barely provide through "ranks" and unlocks.

[–]TalkingBackAgainGallente 4 points5 points ago

The upside from the FPS-shooter point of view, imo, is the continuity and the idea that they can actually fight for something better than the next reset.

Of course, once there is full integration with the EVE universe, EVE pilots are going to fuck the Dust bunnies hard, I don't know quite how yet but you and I both know we'll find a way ;-).

Non-FPS players in the EVE ranks are going to have to live with the fact that the FPS-shooters are going to simply rape them on the ground. I've been in Dust fights a lot now and every once in a while you see a guy and you ask yourself: dude, how the hell do you do that?

But not from orbit though. I'm not timid when it comes to flying in space :-).

[–]Hachya 0 points1 point ago

I find that switching between Eve and Tekkit (I've spent more hours on that recently that Eve) or something else helps, while waiting for a new fleet/training.

[–]squeakynebGallente -1 points0 points ago

That graph is wrong. Either that or the axes are wrong.

[–]KhaimCaldari 5 points6 points ago

The axes don't even make sense, and the graph is wrong (or at the very least is not graphing a function of the x-axis).

[–]taishidaiohGallente 10 points11 points ago

That has to be the most accurate descriptive of nullsec on the internet.

[–]Drumedor 11 points12 points ago

This picture also shows how bad AAA is at designing propaganda.

[–]TaterizerAmarr 7 points8 points ago

The fact that up until a month or so ago they STILL posted that as anti Test propaganda. -A- is pretty much shit on a grander level than just making propaganda.

[–]WelsGallente 2 points3 points ago

They clearly dont know TEST well enough, to even think retarded propaganda is detrimental to TEST.

[–]MarioneTTe_AtWorkGallente 3 points4 points ago

Like dinosaurs in pink tiaras!

/makes a mental note to pick up a pink tiara after work.

[–]zanotamMinmatar 0 points1 point ago

I've not been really keeping up, but I'm assuming -A- is still at "LOL LETS GO TO WSPACE WHERE WELL TOTES WIN EVERYTHING GAIS" levels of stupid?

[–]lordbob75Minmatar 0 points1 point ago

Oh my god, that was hilarious.

[–]zanotamMinmatar 0 points1 point ago

I'll try to get PL to attack, so more hilarity can ensue.

PL SPAI MODE ENGAGE!

[–]dfuzz47 24 points25 points ago

i'm pretty sure that's test propoganda

[–]Drumedor 18 points19 points ago

That's originally AAA propaganda that TEST adopted, I know because I remember the thread that popped up on TEST forums about AAA's new awesome propaganda.

This is the thread if you are in TEST. https://forum.pleaseignore.com/topic/16970-an-example-of-enemy-propaganda/

[–]e-jammerMinmatar[S] 4 points5 points ago

Thanks for the clarification dude. I was always a little curious. I love it even more now, as it adds that extra special layer of fail to what happened.

[–]dfuzz47 1 point2 points ago

ah, well i'm unsubbed so i can't see it. but i guess we're just so good at propaganda that's how i remember it!

[–]nightlord52 0 points1 point ago

We adopted it cause its fun to mock -a-s shitty attempt at propoganda.

[–]e-jammerMinmatar[S] 14 points15 points ago

Sure Is. My starting sentence is "Just to begin with, these guys won"

Was originally AAA.

[–]skippermonkey 3 points4 points ago

How do i apply?

lol

[–]mekarawr 6 points7 points ago

Have a looksie at /r/evedreddit and read the infoes on how to apply. Your reddit account is rather new-ish so you'll most probably be asked to submit an Arts&Crafts application instead. Brotip: If you do decide on an A&C project, make sure to cater to a bunch of autistic latent homosexual goddamn tyrannosaurs. We love glitter and macaroni.

[–]miguidotcom 2 points3 points ago

It is just too awesome to be -A- propaganda.

[–]BCBUDDHA 0 points1 point ago

Im pretty sure its lazy forum faggotry propaganda and nothing official

[–]dfuzz47 0 points1 point ago

what official propaganda does test really have? tez videos?

[–]Secondsemblance 1 point2 points ago

If I recall correctly, wallpapers made that. Those dudes are fucking badasses. I have lost a few too many internet spaceboats to them.

[–]BCBUDDHA 1 point2 points ago

for the homosexuals who want to rub one out to the guy in the photo.

http://englishrussia.com/2012/08/16/one-of-the-most-weird-muscovites/

theres a whole photo spread of the muscular he/she

[–]melhaffCaldari 0 points1 point ago

Oh god that is funny

[–][deleted] 2 points3 points ago

Just give them a rubix cube with 3 random colors all painted over in grey.

[–]paxNoctis 2 points3 points ago

While the labeling turns this into a totally accurate rendition of nullsec, I'm more curious about the original story behind the picture.

Does anyone know why a super buff guy with 80's hair-band hair is pushing a really happy retard in a wheelchair while wearing a pink, one-piece and heels?

[–]dustin_allan 0 points1 point ago

As a proud TESTie I can confirm this image as entirely accurate.

[–]raiden55Gallente 0 points1 point ago

Wow, that was so great you even had a CCP dev tweeting it :)

[–]ItCameFromTheSkyBeLo -1 points0 points ago

I laughed way to hard at this....

[–]Tosadalis 1 point2 points ago

The best image to open in a uni library filled with people.

[–]Nibberler 0 points1 point ago

Picture never gets old

[–]RapistsmurfGallente 0 points1 point ago

Great image. This is almost totally spot on. HAHAH
