Actually, I'm pretty sure that's not clover but some type of water fern (?). I used to have a pond and I did some research for plants, unfortunately I couldn't get these.

[–]Prairie_Dog 50 points51 points ago

I'm pretty sure you are correct! These seem to be water ferns in the genus Marselia:

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Marsilea

These aquatic ferns are often called "Water Clovers" although they are not at all closely related to land clovers, which are actually members of the bean family.

TIL This.

This information will be completely forgotten by tomorrow. I can tell ya that.

As someone with ADD, this is the story of my life. :{

[–]Aeronniell 1 point2 points ago

I know that feel bro.

[–]Aeronniell 1 point2 points ago

I have ADD and an OCD habit of picking (hangnails n stuff). Just btw.

[–]whatwouldscoobydo 0 points1 point ago

Me too! I started biting them when I was 6 (my mom took away my toddler teething chew and then I kept getting in trouble for chewing on my clothes...) I'd bite them until they bled most of the time. It's a bit better now since I've put limits on it (I can only bite them in certain ways and if I do it too much I will just file them. I have issues with the texture- they have to be COMPLETELY SMOOTH or I want to fix them.)

I have other OCD habits but this one is by far the wost and longest-lasting. Haha. I have a strong will, but it's the only thing I've never been able to quit.

[–]bapsteks 0 points1 point ago

If i'm honest, i'd forgotten maybe 30 minutes after I read it, learnt it twice.

[–]HittingSmoke 3 points4 points ago

Oh thank god. This would be far too interesting of a submission had these been actual clovers.

[–]Prairie_Dog 1 point2 points ago

Marselia is a mildly interesting fern, mainly due to its atypical clover-like fronds. It is a mainly a curiosity, nothing too exciting. I think it fits right in!

[–]sydneygamer 2 points3 points ago

Way to crush my dreams.

[–]ZOlDBERG 3 points4 points ago

You're ruining the luck!

[–]CEFHCL 37 points38 points ago

I'm beginning to think that 3 leaf clovers are actually more rare rarer more rare rarer less common.

[–]Psylock524 12 points13 points ago

They might be, if people wouldn't pick them every time they found one.

"Ooh, look! An elephant with black tusks! Let's kill it and take it out of the gene pool!"

[–]kc7wbq 6 points7 points ago

Same thing with hunting.

"Lets find the biggest most healthiest of the species, kill it, mutilate it, and hang it on our wall for everyone to see!"

[–]Jeran 5 points6 points ago

except for the fact that clover plants grow as clusters, so each plant has many "clovers". Each blade of 4 leaves will not genetically reproduce. However some clusters are have the genetic pre disposition towards 4 leaf clovers (thats why if you find one, you will likely find others)

So you would have to pick the whole plant out to remove it from the gene pool

[–]Gooberpatrol66 -1 points0 points ago

By picking the leaves off the plant, you are putting it at a disadvantage to three-leaf clovers. Even if you don't instantly kill the plant, you make it less likely to reproduce because it is forced to regrow the clover to get enough sunlight.

(I'm assuming clover clusters are small enough that picking a clover has an effect on it.)

[–]lurker_becomes_lurkd 5 points6 points ago

Rarer is fine.

[–]FlushDaBuffer 2 points3 points ago

Not the case in Ireland it's everywhere here, it's also one of our national emblems.

the luckiest puddle of all time

[–]just_this_thrice -3 points-2 points ago

This was the sentence my brain typed when I looked at this picture.

[–]darkside17 10 points11 points ago

Find any 7 leaf clovers? Those are the lucky ones.

[–]GuyInATopHat 10 points11 points ago

Don't you...

Forget about me...

Don't, don't, don't, don't

[–]GGcdxx 5 points6 points ago

These are most likely Water Clover that normally produce four leaves. A true four leaf clover comes from the White Clover plant, trifolium repens, and is the result of a rare recessive gene. This many in one place would be a statistical anomaly, making it incredibly interesting.

[–]ieatbees 0 points1 point ago

A true four leaf clover comes from the White Clover plant, trifolium repens

What about trifolium uniflorum? Or trifolium pratense? Or trifolium resupinatum?

[–]whitehandsinkstains 0 points1 point ago

Because it is a recessive gene, though, it's possible for there to be a large population of four leaf clovers in one place; in fact, if you see several in one area, it's more likely that you'll find more, because it means the recessive allele is more common in that population than normal.

[–]GladeAnator 28 points29 points ago

Downvote for being too interesting.

[–]ace66 13 points14 points ago

DO YOU THINK THIS IS A MOTHERFUCKING GAME OP?

[–]mattrition 5 points6 points ago

People need to post this stuff to the correct subreddit.

[–]deadymcstevejobs 2 points3 points ago

But what about the 5 leaf clover in there?

[–]ericn1300 6 points7 points ago

Isn't that the creek that flows past Chernobyl?

[–]Mx-yz-pt-lk 4 points5 points ago

Pick all of them and then go buy a lottery ticket!

[–]MmmCremeEggs 3 points4 points ago

My grandma had an odd patch of 4-leaf clovers in her garden when I was little, and they'd always act surprised when I came running in with one, like they didn't know it was there : D

[–]BrandonMarshallNgai 2 points3 points ago

I look for these now, so this picture gives me hope.

[–]imperfcet 1 point2 points ago

They do seem to grow in bunches. I never found any for years but at my last apartment complex there was a patch with a ton. A few even had 5 or more leaves!

[–]GWARgasm 1 point2 points ago

Mildly interesting? That's FREAKING AMAZING.

[–]alexthetiger 0 points1 point ago

So THAT'S where they all went!

[–]coldsoulgameboy 1 point2 points ago

It's the Fountain of Youth!

[–]falafel_raptor 0 points1 point ago

Drink the water. You know you want to.

[–]agroof 1 point2 points ago

Bottom-most center one looks like a five or six leaf clover!

:O

[–]Tom_the_Pirat3 0 points1 point ago

Is that the end of the rainbow ?

[–]CapHindsight 1 point2 points ago

If you drink that water you will probably get superpowers.

[–]hippz -1 points0 points ago

Holy fuck, I see one with 5..

[–]Nexlol 2 points3 points ago

[–]peex 0 points1 point ago

Here is a 56 leaf clover.

[–]HeardsTheWord 0 points1 point ago

The four leaves is a mutation. Chances are if you find one, you'll find more in that patch.

[–]Anndreew 0 points1 point ago

must have been a lucky find

[–]rwkng 0 points1 point ago

PICK THEM ALLLLLL MUAHAHAHAHAHA

[–]NightGolfer 0 points1 point ago

[–]Chrispy_Reddit -1 points0 points ago

You should poop there and see what grows.

[–]cburke34 0 points1 point ago

so this is what the end of a rainbow looks like

[–]thebezerker 0 points1 point ago

+1 rad/sec

[–]diktashion 0 points1 point ago

Four leaf clover patches only occur on he exact site where a mermaid and a leprechaun had sex

[–]twilight24317 0 points1 point ago

Wow! That's amazing.

[–]abombnuke23 -1 points0 points ago

Welcome to Chernobyl.

[–]LibraryDrone -4 points-3 points ago
