Check back in a couple months.

[–]Dragday 24 points25 points ago

I stared for too long, until I read "Check back in a couple months." . I am stupid.

[–]PurpleNuggets 8 points9 points ago

But I swear I can still see it changing ever so slowly...

[–]BlazeOrangeDeer 2 points3 points ago

Serious question: in a gif, how long can you delay between the frames?

[–]metabun 3 points4 points ago

In gif89a, each frame can have a frame delay defined in its Graphic Control Block, where it is set aside two bytes for the delay of that frame.

The delay is given in 100ths of a second, so you could at most have a 256*256/100 second delay, which is around ten or eleven minutes if my math checks out.

thanks :D

[–]cmd_iii 1 point2 points ago

Actually, in this part of New York, that's about as quickly as they change.

I'm not kidding. One weekend, it was in the 80s and I was thinking, "we may have another few weeks of summer after all." The next weekend, it was in the 60s, and I was closing the pool.

[–]CubemonkeyNYC 1 point2 points ago

That's how it was in "Spring." A few days of 70s, then 90s.

[–]you_freak_bitch 1 point2 points ago

huh? you travel through time periods?

edit: my bad, i'm australian. i just realised you were talking about temperature in degrees fahrenheit. also it is exactly like that in melbourne, where i am from. four seasons in a day they call it

[–]Harutinator 45 points46 points ago

You die after about 80-85 of these

[–]JonathanWarner 18 points19 points ago

Scary thought :l

[–]checkenginelight 8 points9 points ago

Thanks, Captain Bringdown.

[–]Ravek 4 points5 points ago

I'm already over 80 seasons old ... not long to go then.

Oh wait I'm 23.

[–]Jumpset 2 points3 points ago

Yeah, if everything goes well. Don't forget about the amount of people who die every day without having witnessed this even once.

Never realized how much of the world has never seen snow...

I guess I should be happy I get to freeze my ass off for 6 months a year

[–]simmejanne 2 points3 points ago

As a swede, I freeze my ass of 11 months a year

[–]nanarpus 0 points1 point ago

Never in recent human history. During the ice ages, a lot more was covered. And a lot of scientists think that the entirety of Earth was frozen at some time http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Snowball_Earth

[–]Javadocs 0 points1 point ago

I assuming when he says 'world', he means the people of the world.

[–]Bandit1379 2 points3 points ago

Something I just noticed... why is there no snow on the east coast of the US? For instance, it looks like New York got barely any snow; I thought NY got a decent amount regularly?

[–]nanarpus 2 points3 points ago

[–]youfuckstookallnames 0 points1 point ago

Looks like Maine didn't get any in that .gif either.

But I can guarantee everything is blinding white for at least 4 months every year.

[–]Jaymaster1 1 point2 points ago

TIL It snows in South America.

[–]Purehatred 0 points1 point ago

[–]you_freak_bitch 0 points1 point ago

wow, my country really is a barren wasteland (australia).

[–]Eriter815 22 points23 points ago

a typical day in ohio

[–]brownent1 7 points8 points ago

Haha yup. Pretty much all of the midwest too

[–]jhpalmer 4 points5 points ago

I have no idea what this is like.

[–]mongooseondaloose 3 points4 points ago

I think you mean Missouri or Kansas. http://www.weatherpages.com/variety/most.html

[–]GreatGooglelyMoglely 2 points3 points ago

More like Indiana

[–]Coffeeey 10 points11 points ago

Here's the video: http://youtu.be/lmIFXIXQQ_E

It is made by a Norwegian that works for the national broadcasting service. It was taken out the window of his house outside Oslo.

[–]drsnafu 14 points15 points ago

Did someone bump the camera at the end of summer?

[–]Corn0ffTheCob 5 points6 points ago

Someone kicked the tree in the center a bit more upright at the end of winter too.

[–]drsnafu 5 points6 points ago

I think that's more likely the gif looping, and the tree is sagging to the left over the year.

[–]Ezenne 0 points1 point ago

Trees normally bend down a little (or a lot depending on thickness) under the pressure of snow accumulating on them, then start straightening again when the snow melts.

[–]xyroclast 0 points1 point ago

It looks like it. The ground appears to lift up on the lefthand side. I'd imagine that when the project takes a year to do, you wouldn't exactly want to start over unless it were absolutely necessary

[–]JonathanWarner 5 points6 points ago

Fall seems to have hit that middle tree pretty hard.

[–]theoceanisdeeep 5 points6 points ago

Can someone show down this gif for me so I can stare at it in awe for 15 minutes really high? Its too fast for my eyes

[–]blakeready710 4 points5 points ago

[–]xyroclast 1 point2 points ago

Camera definitely gets moved a bit over the course of the year. Watch the treetops in the background move in a circle

[–]compto35 0 points1 point ago

I assume the photog came back regularly…I wouldn't leave a camera at the mercy of the elements for a whole cycle of seasons. If that's the case, it's pretty impressive that they were able to be so consistent.

[–]stonecutter129 4 points5 points ago

If you watch this for a couple minutes, that is the length of time that represents your life. Seems so insignificant.

[–]SchiffsBased 4 points5 points ago

I want this as a wallpaper.

[–]metabun 1 point2 points ago

Okay. The source photos are available as a flickr album and as a zip file on the creators blog.

[–]SisterPhister 4 points5 points ago

This makes me feel... empty.

[–]cosmicButterfly 1 point2 points ago

I got a lil dizzy..in a good way

[–]deathnutz 2 points3 points ago

This is the heartbeat responsible for life on earth. Any planet that can do this can evolve life. The cosmic cocktail mixer.

[–]gabbagabbahey28 1 point2 points ago

the only seasons we need are spring and fall. the other two are too extreme.

[–]jclarkwright 1 point2 points ago

This is strangely similar to inhaling and exhaling..

[–]thefallingbrick 1 point2 points ago

Is it just me or does it keep getting faster?

[–]FourAM 1 point2 points ago

I have a picture in my bathroom which does that.

[–]Leopard305 9 points10 points ago

me too! its called a window.

[–]M3TLH3D 1 point2 points ago

Is it weird that the longer I watched this gif, the faster the cycle went?

[–]meangrampa 1 point2 points ago

When you get old that's what a year seems like.

[–]SoakAToa 1 point2 points ago

Hey this is what it looks like outside when I get on reddit

[–]Lazure907 1 point2 points ago

Wish the transitions were slower.

[–]Servicemaster 1 point2 points ago

Earth's heartbeat.

[–]VEC7OR 1 point2 points ago

Watching this gif for long enough makes you contemplate the briefness of human life...

[–]dee_007 1 point2 points ago

I love the crisp, bright colors of fall

[–]-MD- 1 point2 points ago

Could someone slow this down like 3x? I think it'd be neat for a forum signature.

[–]Well_With_My_Soul 1 point2 points ago

Here's what an entire year looks like in one photograph: http://i.imgur.com/6isqA.jpg

[–]quicksilver68 1 point2 points ago

I'm really baked and that had me in a trance.

[–]ajmoo 0 points1 point ago

you and me both, man.

[–]shmera 0 points1 point ago

An upvote for you good sir.

[–]serosis 0 points1 point ago

"I love seasons too much. I love seasons.”

"Yeah, so do I. That is why I live in a place that skips the shitty ones!”

[–]FleetwoodMacNCheese 0 points1 point ago

do FB cover photos support GIFS?

[–]xyroclast 0 points1 point ago

Looks like the camera gets moved out of place at one point

[–]PlinytheStoner 0 points1 point ago

Completely honest, I watched this for a solid minute before I realized it wasn't changing over the long run. Lol Yup [7]from/r/trees

[–]nanarpus 1 point2 points ago

This is just the shitty version of the original

[–]AerateMark 1 point2 points ago

That was truly worth the read, you magnificent bastard! Please, take my small tribute of one upvote you fantastic bastard! If only I had more! My reaction to it.

[–]owlbynature 0 points1 point ago

I never realized there was a gif for this picture.

[–]NegativeCreep18 0 points1 point ago

Beautiful.

[–]szester 0 points1 point ago

Michigander here...thats not winter.

[–]SkippyTheDog 0 points1 point ago

It's like the heartbeat of the earth...the heart just beats once per year, where ours beats 80ish per minute...

[–]danaks 0 points1 point ago

I moved from New Hampshire to New Orleans six years ago. I really miss these.

Dat Foliage

[–]Seruz 1 point2 points ago

You call that a winter?

[–]BlueBird518 0 points1 point ago

As usual, Fall is too quick for me to actually enjoy it.

[–]OfeyDofey 0 points1 point ago

man those leaves really weigh me down

[–]JFoggers 0 points1 point ago

Why won't that tree SIT STILL!

[–]txjdiesel 0 points1 point ago

Savor them. Seasons are a thing of legend in Texas.

[–]fro455 0 points1 point ago

Almost as ever changing as Mitt Romney's view points.
