Rules

  1. No screenshots, or pictures with added or superimposed text. This includes image macros, comics, info-graphics and most diagrams. Text (e.g. a URL) serving to credit the original author is exempt.

  2. No gore or porn. NSFW content must be tagged.

  3. No personal information. This includes anything hosted on Facebook's servers, as they can be traced to the original account holder. Stalking & harassment will not be tolerated.

  4. No solicitation of votes (including "cake day" posts), posts with their sole purpose being to communicate with another redditor, or [FIXED] posts. DAE posts go in /r/DoesAnybodyElse. "Fixed" posts should be added as a comment to the original image.

  5. Submissions must link directly to a specific image file or to an image hosting website with minimal ads. We do not allow blog hosting of images ("blogspam"), but links to albums on image hosting websites are okay. URL shorteners are prohibited.

  • If your submission appears to be filtered but definitely meets the above rules, please send us a message with a link to the comments section of your post (not a direct link to the image). Don't delete it as that just makes the filter hate you!

  • If you come across any rule violations, please report the submission or message the mods and one of us will remove it!

Please also try to come up with original post titles. Submissions that use certain clichés/memes will be automatically tagged with a warning.

What if one of the aborted children was going to be the next Hitler?

[–]sweetteaaa[S] -1 points0 points ago

Hitler was an evil man. He didn't start that way as a child.

No I didn't get that wrong its childeren.

Umm, rediculous notions of predetermination are showing... the cure would still exist and someone else would find it, just like many people invented the wheel, or just about any other major invention.

Our cult-of-personality addicted society loves to claim that single individuals are responsible for great breakthroughs, when the simple matter of fact is that for any given invention, the person 'credited' with the invention is often just one of many colleagues of their time and place who come to the same conclusion at roughly the same time. Ironically our 'winner take all' society likes to crown one of them 'it' and ignore the rest, which is woefully unfair and downright uncivilized, but... it's just how we are I'm afraid.

Now, you want something really fucked up, What if the cure for cancer was a cheap, simple, and trivial to produce herb that the power-hungry American culture warriors has accidentally branded the lifestyle marker of the American untermensche and waged a campaign of extermination against for four decades? That would be a humorous bit of bitter irony, would it not?

You are absolutely right. It's not usually the work of one but of many. No argument there. All the more reason not to abort childeren.

I wasn't trying to imply that it the work of one individual but you have to agree that it is usually the knowledge of one that tips the scales.

I own 2 3d printers I constructed. I design and print new physical objects daily (often two or three per day). I am an inventor, and a rather prolific one.

but you have to agree that it is usually the knowledge of one that tips the scales.

And no, I do not have to agree with this statement. I am not 'tipping any scales', there is nothing special about my inventions compared to the many other shapes and objects that do similar purposes to the ones I create. I do what I like to do because I enjoy being a magician capable of imagining objects and manifesting physical copies of them within short order. I believe that if all the world is a stage, then blessed are the props-makers. But I am one of many pushing my technology. Hell, if I was the only one I would get depressed and bored, the creativity of my colleagues in the local fabrication industry keeps me on my toes and full of inspiration and new ideas to try.

If humanity has the will to solve a problem, it will solve a problem. The rest is mere details.

Or even better: What if the cure for cancer was to be discovered by one of the many millions of sperm of mine that didn't fertilize an egg?

[–]sweetteaaa[S] -1 points0 points ago

I am specifically talking about the point of beyond the actual combination of DNA. But you make a good point and to that I say: what is not meant to be is not meant to be. But you can't tell me that your sperm think, feel, or grow. A human child growing in the womb does. That's we're you and I don't think alike. And that's ok.

OP: your stupidity is showing.

[–]sweetteaaa[S] -1 points0 points ago

So is your epidermis but you don't see me being a asshole.

[–]j_ronl 0 points1 point ago
