one of my buddies married a super-rich girl a couple years back.

i know this face well.

[–]nihilite 33 points34 points ago

She have any ugly sisters?

[–]HerDarkMaterials 27 points28 points ago

Not even interested in the pretty ones?

[–]magzma16 20 points21 points ago

Standards are standards.

[–]Cheewy 6 points7 points ago

Only after he close the deal with one of the uglies

[–]aoeu00 2 points3 points ago

gotta stay in my league

[–]dsac 8 points9 points ago

no... they're all hot.

[–]iBleeedorange 1 point2 points ago

are they single?

[–]dsac 1 point2 points ago

no, married to some other rich dudes.

[–]Jesus_In_Drag 114 points115 points ago

My old boss would do this shit. I'd hear about his crazy expensive vacation, have to sit through 400 pictures and hear about all the great food, sites and other crap.

Then he would ask me about where I would be going that year. My response, "Probably something small this year." His response, "Oh, why?"

Give me a raise you dick!

Thank god I am out of there.

[–]friday6700 36 points37 points ago

Did you ever ask for a raise?

[–]Jesus_In_Drag 31 points32 points ago

Yeah. Then I didn't get one for two years. Then I asked for one again. I got 2%.

He couldn't afford more since we were opening up two new branches... and I would need to work 80 hour weeks at the remote offices to get them up and running. I left before that happened.

[–]leslieohene 13 points14 points ago

I do some work in an office with a number of very well paid people. Sometimes they joke about not having enough money.

[–]mr-peabody 6 points7 points ago

Same here. My coworker makes nearly double what I do and my boss makes nearly triple. If they're not complaining about not having enough (fixing a Mercedes Benz or BMW is expensive, apparently), they're bragging about how much they have (40-inch TVs in all three bathrooms). Christmas is the worst time for that sort of thing (couldn't decide between the new iPad or Kindle Fire.. why not both?).

Meanwhile, I'm planning out my "Imagination Christmas" this year: "I got a pogo-stick!" "I got a hula hoop!"

I don't resent them because they make more than me, I just wish they'd have a bit more tact.

[–]Killerkarpfen 5 points6 points ago

My brother in law who made about 200-300k just recently lost his job while he was looking for something new. They are completely fucked at the moment as they were living a high standard alright (all organic, private schools, etc.) but they went paycheck to paycheck. You bet they complain now. :)

[–]Volden 2 points3 points ago

Paycheck to paycheck on 200k+? That makes me ill.

[–]Killerkarpfen 1 point2 points ago

Yep. I never understood that and often had mini fights with my sister about it.

The only "good" thing us that they spend all money on their 4 kids. Private insurance for all plus good, private kindergardens and schools eat obscene amounts of money each month. No fancy cars or house etc here...

[–]CuriousAbra 4 points5 points ago

That isn't really enough to judge them.

If they all have PhDs and 10+ years experience, and are getting 60,000 a year, I think it's pretty justified for them to complain/joke. Even though, compared to most people, that is a pretty comfortable wage.

[–]eramos 2 points3 points ago

Wow what assholes. Now back to complaining about rich people who joke about having too much money and rich people who joke about having just enough money.

[–]bear1 4 points5 points ago

My sister in law used to do this but I had to stop going to it because she is overweight and I did not like seeing pictures of her in a bikini. Just say no, dude. :(

[–]Jumbojet777 22 points23 points ago

This is exactly how I felt when I heard my 7 year old cousin complain that their family was going to Hawaii...

[–]Eddh123 58 points59 points ago

i found this really painful to watch.

[–]donpapillon 19 points20 points ago

And that wasn't acting.

[–]derajydac 27 points28 points ago

[–]vuxa 17 points18 points ago

[–]MuteMouse 5 points6 points ago

the fuck

[–]mr-peabody -1 points0 points ago

"OK, Arnold, in this scene, we need you to smile"

"Like dis?"

[–]dubbya 35 points36 points ago

As someone who hasn't had a vacation in over 5 years, I not only make this face frequently, I have to restrain the choke-a-bitch reflex as well.

[–]ShawnGupta 14 points15 points ago

I fight back by telling them what I watched on netflix for 12 hours over the last weekend.

[–]dubbya 0 points1 point ago

I actually laughed at this. Thank you.

[–]IAmAeruginosa 5 points6 points ago

Obviously I don't know your personal situation, but you might be surprised by how cheaply you can travel, just to get away for a few days. If you have a credit card with frequent flyer miles that you use for expenses and pay off at the end of each month, you can get a free flight. Or if frequent flyer miles aren't an option, Southwest is always running crazy specials. Right now they have 40% off on travel on certain dates; I just bought a round-trip ticket to San Francisco for $150.

If you stay in hostels and are smart about what you do for entertainment/food at your destination, you can easily take an entire vacation for around $200-300. Setting aside only $17 a month for 12 months would allow you to have one $200 vacation every year.

Sorry if I come across as rude, because I know that there are people who absolutely can't afford to set aside even $20 a month or who can't take off 2-3 days from work, but I love to travel and I'm surprised by how many people simply never do it because they think it's unaffordable. I'm not rich by any means, but I take several vacations every year.

[–]dubbya 2 points3 points ago

It's not affording the trip. It's the crushing pile of bills that piles up while I'm away combined with the zero income the whole time I'm away. The last 8 years has nearly broken me but I refuse to let a bad situation win.

My wife has been able to take our nephews, who live with us, on at least one vacation a year. She always says she feels bad going and leaving me but, fuck man, they're kids. They deserve to enjoy themselves.

One of these days, I'll be able to save rather than simply make it and not just keep the wolves of the past at bay. Until then, I wait as patiently as I can and hope I don't die before I can enjoy myself.

Edit to clarify: 8 years ago, I was the victim of circumstance as part of a "lay off." I use quote because the lay off was because our company went belly up entirely. We all showed up to work one day to see the office manager holding a letter from the owner. The heartless son of a bitch didn't even pretend to care enough to drop the axe himself.

After that, with the local economy as it was where I lived at the time, there were about 8 job openings at gas stations and 60 of us to fill them. At 23, having just really started out in real life, I was royally fucked. Minimum wage doesn't pay for shit and everyone knows it. Everything fell behind and it took becoming self employed and moving 3 states away to even begin to put it all back together.

[–]LieutenantClone 5 points6 points ago

I know that feel, bro.

[–]Rapemyassholeplease 0 points1 point ago

just take a vacation. I know, I know, you can't, but fuck everything and just do it.

[–]dubbya 12 points13 points ago

Tried that once about 5 years ago. Almost ended up homeless. It's not a fear thing either. It's a rational, can't afford it thing.

[–]Rapemyassholeplease 4 points5 points ago

I already said "I know, I know, you can't" but what are you trying to do that you can't afford it? you dont have to go EU for 3 months. shit you don't even have to go anywhere...

can spend you whole life working for that vacation or you can take smaller vacations and enjoy life

[–]Iron_Maiden_666 0 points1 point ago

I'm thinking of taking a bank loan and taking a 3 or 4 week trip through Europe. The exchange rate of the Indian Rupee Vs Euro really hurts though. I'd have to use the cheapest everything.

[–][deleted] 1 point2 points ago

Don't take a loan for a vacation. Take a few smaller vacations while saving up for that awesome trip!

[–]zarisin 1 point2 points ago

Or you know, don't take a vacation at all. That's how we do it in the good old U.S. of A. Work work work till the workins done. Work even more there's no time for fun.

[–]dubbya 0 points1 point ago

It's not that I can't afford the trip. It's that I can't afford the time off. Bills keep coming and I've been nearly ruined and constantly playing catch-up since I was laid off 7 years ago. I'm just now beginning to feel like I can take a 3 day weekend once in a while and not have to live on ramen and tap water.

[–]DogPencil 2 points3 points ago

Do you work for yourself? If so, I get it.

I am not self-employed and make sure I take each and every vacation day I'm given. The way I see it, I've earned it. It would be like not taking part of my salary. Even if I don't go anywhere, I use my days and sit around the house. The same thing goes for my lunch break. I'm not opposed to working through lunch if it's necessary, but that should be the exception -- not the rule. It's my hour and I'll sit here scratching my balls, if I want.

[–]dubbya 0 points1 point ago

I am indeed self employed. I'm also just beginning to even pretend to be catching up financially after the last several years. Literally everything has been behind for the last 4 hears. It sucks so bad.

[–]DogPencil 2 points3 points ago

Shit, man. Do you work remotely? Does it matter where you're physical location is?

If you do, say freelance Internet work, you could easily travel to SE Asia, work from the road and live like a king with the amount of money you make here.

[–]dubbya 0 points1 point ago

Nope. I wish I could work remotely. I would totally live in India right now. That was my last vacation and I was staggered by how cheap it was to live like some manner of royalty there.

[–]I_DONT_KNOW123 2 points3 points ago

5 years? lucky, not in 8 years.

[–]dubbya 1 point2 points ago

On that path if things keep up this way. Vacationless bros?

[–]I_DONT_KNOW123 -1 points0 points ago

RES tagged.

This looks like the face I made when I had to listen to a rich girl talk about how bad of luck she has because ONE of her iPads was stolen.

[–]NonKosherTofu 20 points21 points ago

But why would you even have multiple iPads?

[–]LunarBears 39 points40 points ago

You cant use your bathroom iPad in public you simpleton!

[–]Rapemyassholeplease 6 points7 points ago

or your masturbation one.

[–]Un_Touchable 0 points1 point ago

unless you're the kony video guy

[–]GAMEchief 1 point2 points ago

What would people think of the fleshlight addon?

[–]LunarBears 0 points1 point ago

It could work. You could plug it in to the headphone port and use the bass as vibration.

[–]ieatbees 3 points4 points ago

Maybe you can plug one into the other and use one as a keyboard.

Edit: or iPads of different colours, for accessorizing.

[–]NonKosherTofu 1 point2 points ago

do iPads come in different colors? I thought they only came in white.

[–]ieatbees 1 point2 points ago

There's black ones. Edit: and this google search suggests they come in other colours, although I've only seen black and white.

[–]ImageOfInsanity 1 point2 points ago

There's a company that allows you to get your iPad painted a billion different ways, except it costs almost twice as much as the iPad itself.

[–]ieatbees 0 points1 point ago

I think she can afford it. I don't see what's wrong with just using a cover, though.

[–]Hasteman 1 point2 points ago

They come in gold too. Like real gold.

Went to Harrod's in London and saw like 6+ people walk out of there with golden apple products in about an hour. It took all I had not to beg for "spare change" (probably woulda been a couple hundred).

[–]taint-misbehavin 1 point2 points ago

MY tax professor brings his two ipads and a laptop to class everyday. the presentation goes through the laptop to the big screen, one ipad has the IRC open on it, and the other ipad has a copy of the presentation so he doesn't have to look up apparently.

[–]ShawnGupta -1 points0 points ago

Do you have her number?

[–]offkilter_fatima 9 points10 points ago

The co-owner of the place I work at is my age and very well off. He and I are pretty friendly. I'm getting married next Friday and stressing over making a 1,000 dollar reception happen. His wedding I found out, had around 300 guests and the brides dad paid over 150,000 for it. I was speechless. Funny thing is he said he would have preferred doing it the way my gal and I are doing it.

Edit: I also have a bar guest, who I happen to like a lot, that in every visit finds a way to throw the phrase "Well I'm rich, so it's not a big deal for me."

[–]LieutenantClone 4 points5 points ago

My wedding was very small with immediate family, and must have cost us a grand total of a couple hundred dollars. Honestly, I think that was the best decision we could have made. Completely stress free, very little planning, yet still quite nice. It was at a beautiful community center on the waterfront in late summer.

Watching co-workers stress over their weddings for 6 months leading up to it just boggles my mind why anyone puts themselves through that.

[–]offkilter_fatima 3 points4 points ago

First off, congrats LC :) The lady and I are very excited. We've dated for 6 years, we're best friends, and we both agreed on not wanting a grand scale "traditional" wedding. Our plan is dressing up nice next friday, and going to the courthouse, followed by a catered (by my job) get together the next day at a beach/state park in Florida that's very close to our place. My mother was disappointed and pointed out that my cousin had a nice wedding that "was only 15,000"...It boggles my mind as well.

[–]LieutenantClone 1 point2 points ago

That sounds like a good time, with minimal stress! My parents were married at the courthouse, maybe small weddings are in my bloodline :)

Best wishes to both of you.

[–]cg2916 6 points7 points ago

I'm convinced one of my friends eats money for breakfast, lunch, and dinner.

[–]passive_fist 0 points1 point ago

what does he have for a bedtime snack?

[–]cg2916 0 points1 point ago

Few Sacagawea coins.

[–]PW_Herman 0 points1 point ago

Being unemployed, I will gladly rifle through his shit.

[–]BRDNZBL1 14 points15 points ago

I was waiting for a punch at the end.

[–]mark331 9 points10 points ago

I was waiting for punch

[–]SirAuron 5 points6 points ago

Was that the punchline?

[–]GrammarGorilla 2 points3 points ago

Are you the punchline?

[–]adescamo -4 points-3 points ago

Are you the punch line punch line?

[–]Rapemyassholeplease 0 points1 point ago

The same goes for pretentious assholes who say things like, "Man the weather is crazy today, what is this, Fiji??"

Really subtle. Thanks for reminding me you went to Fiji.

Hahhahahaha man I fucking love arnold

[–]OSXGuy 0 points1 point ago

So did the maid.

[–]DogPencil 3 points4 points ago

Cool vacations don't have to be expensive. Hell, you could spend months in SE Asia for a couple thousand dollars - and be pretty comfortable. Of course, if you want fancy and luxurious, you'll need major coin, but traveling to cool places on a budget is A LOT easier than most Americans realize.

FELLOW AMERICANS, I URGE YOU TO TRAVEL ABROAD MORE!

Edit: Reading through some of these comments, I'm saddened that so many Americans seem scared or otherwise not open to the idea of traveling abroad.

[–]originsquigs 2 points3 points ago

I would love to spend a couple thousand and stay for a few months. There is a problem how the hell am I going to pay my rent at home? I just saved up my money to go on this months long vacation and now I go. I get 2-4 weeks paid vacation pay but then then.... oh shit no more money coming in. So there goes that idea.....

[–]DogPencil 0 points1 point ago

I can only speak from personal experience. I'm 35 and have quit jobs twice to travel for months at a time. I live very simply and do not have many bills. I'm also divorced and have no kids.

Each time I've come back to the US, I've ended up with a better job, higher salary and better position than when I left. I traveled for four months last year, came back to the US in December, found a better job in February and am already being considered for a major promotion that would give me a 50% pay increase.

I know this sounds terribly hippy and new age and like something from "The Alchemist", but if it's something you REALLY want, you have to take a chance and go for it -- or live with the regret of never even trying.

Of course, long-term travel isn't for everyone. Many are perfectly happy with a conventional life, and that's fine. I just find it a little sad that many people I grew up with simply "accept" the kind of linear, standard, expected life society gives them WITHOUT questioning anything. No one says that when you finish school you HAVE to start working in a career you don't really enjoy just to afford shit society says you need. No one says you have to start a family right after college and deal with all the responsibilities that come along with it. If you do and you're happy, that's great because that's what it's all about. You have the power and the right to build the kind of life YOU want -- and it may be something vastly different from what society expects of you. It's all about being happy.

If you're really interested in long-term travel, I suggest you check out r/travel or r/solotavel.

[–]shadowboxman 1 point2 points ago

I spent a year traveling and it cost me less to do that than my standard life in the US.

[–]Bosticles -1 points0 points ago

I plan to, but I just see no way I could and still maintain a job. So I'd have to be jobless for a bit, and I doubt that looks good on a resume straight out of college. I'm waiting for my life to start, but I have to get my stupid little piece of paper that says I can jump through the hoops and do what I'm told. One day..

[–]DogPencil 3 points4 points ago

So, you're in college now? Taking a loooong trip abroad straight out of college will not hurt your resume, in my opinion. In fact, it may help -- especially if you can pad your résumé with all the volunteering you did while you were overseas.

I think the perfect time to take off on a 6-12 month trip is right out of college. Do it before you have all the responsibilities (mortgage, bills, family, etc.). If it's something you REALLY want, stop saying "one day" and start making plans -- even if your big trip isn't until three years from now. Start saving your money now.

Is it something you REALLY want to do?

I'm going to paste a response I gave to someone else.

I can only speak from personal experience. I'm 35 and have quit jobs twice to travel for months at a time. I live very simply and do not have many bills. I'm also divorced and have no kids.

In fact, it may help -- especially if you can pad your résumé with all the volunteering you did while you were overseas.

That's brilliant! No way they can prove you lied about that "work experience" you did in that Cambodian village that has no telephone!

[–]DogPencil 0 points1 point ago

Speaking of Cambodia, aboutasiaschools.com is a good place to start. There's no fee to volunteer for them.

[–]Bosticles 0 points1 point ago

Yeah I agree, that was my plan. Unfortunately my major is very hardcore about job placement. I supposed I refuse all the job offers but as part of the program I'll be working directly with companies.

I guess we'll see when I get there lol.

[–]99X 0 points1 point ago

Where are some good places to go? Perhaps links to places that are affordable or where to begin? Give us some details!

[–]DogPencil 0 points1 point ago

SE Asia (Thailand, Malaysia, Vietnam, Laos, Cambodia, Indonesia and Myanmar) are pretty cheap places for long-term travel. They're also awesome! It's also easy to travel there. You'll find travelers from all over the world. The hospitality staff generally all speak pretty good English. It's easy to stay on the well-traveled circuit where you'll be surrounded by loads of people from around the world. You can also veer off and explore on your own.

China, while challenging, is pretty cheap as well. You can stay in a dorm at a nice hostel for $4 - $10 a night. Food is also cheap as well as public transport. China is also very safe. I was there for two months and never felt unsafe.

India is cheap as well.

S. America can be cheap, but places like Brazil have definitely become more expensive.

Where would you like to go?

There's a movie called "A Map for Saturday." It's a documentary about a guy who leaves his good "safe" job in NYC to travel the world for a year. If you've never traveled (I mean on a budget, backpacking, staying at hostels - not resorts), it's worth a look.

Also, many books are available on the subject focusing on different regions.

Go to r/travel and get some more ideas.

Check out hostelworld.com to price hostels around the globe.

Bootsnall.com is a good site for travel info.

Sorry if I sound overly passionate about it. I am. I think nearly everyone can benefit from spending time abroad. At the very least, you'll have fun.

Good luck!

[–]poopingRainbows 1 point2 points ago

I don't get it. He is a friend...who had a great time and wants to share what he did in his vacation. It doesn't mean he's bragging.

You can't be happy for someone unless you had at least as much fun as they had?

[–]Cheewy 0 points1 point ago

Kudos for the director for seizing the oportunity to chop his massive forehead

[–]duckstaped 1 point2 points ago

the length of this gif made it hilarious

[–]Mxblinkday 0 points1 point ago

I love Arnold.

[–]Vicious_Hamster 1 point2 points ago

I have to listen to this crap everyday at work.

The latest brag is from this guy who's visiting his family's properties (castles) in Europe. He specifically called me to brag while he was there...he also knows I barely make a living wage for where I live...I wish I was kidding.

[–]ReeceGH 0 points1 point ago

It almost looks like Arny is copping BJ's

[–]baddecisions4 0 points1 point ago

Yeah, I'm watching Terminator 2 on tv right now too.

[–]NoSalt 0 points1 point ago

I JUST watched that tonight.

[–]UncleHouse 1 point2 points ago

I've seen Terminator 2 probably a good 100 times, but I do not remember this scene...

[–]cthulhubert 0 points1 point ago

Somebody says it's a deleted scene. I'm curious how you knew it was Terminator 2.

[–]UncleHouse 1 point2 points ago

This is the scene where John Connor is trying to teach the Terminator humanity. You can see his hair at the bottom. I told you I've seen this movie a lot :P

[–]Vocalities 0 points1 point ago

I work at Books-a-Million, and it seems like every single day somebody approaches me and needs help finding a travel guide to some beautiful remote island or some shit. Then they proceed to tell me all about the adventures around the world and how annoying it can get having to constantly buy new travel guides because the roads change.

Must be a huge annoyance.

Must be.

[–]brenan6 1 point2 points ago

the first gif on gif to actually make me crack up. thank you.

[–]GAMEchief 0 points1 point ago

And my dad was like, "If we're going to fly so many places so often, we should just buy the airlines. It'll be cheaper that way."

[–]TL10 0 points1 point ago

[–]yaymountainbiking 0 points1 point ago

Well maybe you should just pull yourself up by your bootstraps. /topical_humor

[–]PessimisticWaves 0 points1 point ago

I love how during the last shot, you can totally tell he's trying hard to hold back a full on smile.

[–]SnOrfys 0 points1 point ago

Lots of butt hurt people in here that don't know what being a real friend is like.

[–]Badonkajunky 0 points1 point ago

Asked a guy what he did. Said he hadn't had a job in a couple years. But, I asked him, your going on a two week vacation! Yeah, he might even be moving to chicago at the end of the trip. I don't even know how to react

[–]Bosticles -1 points0 points ago

You sound like kind of a shitty person for not being happy for your friend. Actually to be honest most of these comments seem like they're from shitty people..

"Oh some people have more than me, those people are terrible and I have every right to be angry at them!" Fuck you, I have friends with much more than me and I'm happy for them. Just because someone has a different situation doesn't give you the right to be a self centered little bitch.

[–]TheShowsNotOver 0 points1 point ago

I'm with you man, it seems like all these people are putting money and jealousy before friendships

[–]ShawnGupta -2 points-1 points ago

You are taking this too seriously.

Whats wrong with rich people? they are rich means they have contributed to society immensely
