Nope. Quick Tineye search of this pic shows it goes back to at least 2009.

[–]NotaMethAddict 211 points212 points ago

Plus, they're Chinese not Japanese.

[–]MobRule1997 118 points119 points ago

OP is a racist.

[–]NotaMethAddict 93 points94 points ago

*OP is a reposter. The last post had the same mistake.

[–]BluShine 6 points7 points ago

Reddit doesn't care. OP has gotten over a thousand upvotes since Stay_Off_My_Lawn posted his comment.

[–]MacNeil69 8 points9 points ago

I bet he doesn't even lift.

[–]The_Painted_Man 1 point2 points ago

HOW CAN SHE SLAP?

[–]IHaveAScatFetishAMA 2 points3 points ago

Half of Reddit likes to assume Japanese when they see anything relating to Asians

[–]DisapprovingSeal 2 points3 points ago

I used to assume Chinese, since they make up the bulk of the population.

[–]The_Painted_Man 2 points3 points ago

Are you calling them fat?!?

[–]BluShine 0 points1 point ago

Yes

[–]gazwel 0 points1 point ago

Ever acted out your fetish?

[–]Mydraaln 44 points45 points ago

And Japan doesn't have an army, they have what would could be called the strongest police force in the world.

[–]YelloJuso 8 points9 points ago

Well according to Japanese law,it's in a limbo between a full blown military and a police force. Under international law, they are treated as a military force.

Still, calling this a police force is a bit of a misnomer....

[–]dont_knockit 2 points3 points ago

Whoa, I didn't know they still flew the Rising Sun. TIL

[–]NotoriousADD 1 point2 points ago

They've modified it a bit, and it still pisses off all the countries they invaded, but yeah the Rising Sun flag is still being flown. It's not that odd, Germany still uses the Teutonic Cross symbol for their military.

[–]dixiegunsmoke 0 points1 point ago

The navy seems to use it alot, have not seen it anywhere else.

[–]NotoriousADD 0 points1 point ago

While googling it for the previous comment, I found the GSDF (army) uses a modified version with weird geometric gold trim.

[–]texasconsult 0 points1 point ago

Last time I was at Pearl Harbor (the navy base, not the memorial site) there were Japanese cruisers docked there that were flying the Rising Sun. Kind of fucked up, but the sailors themselves were friendly.

[–]Spaghe-t 0 points1 point ago

"Self Defence Force"

In the constitution, it allows for "Minimum forces required for defence, and never aggravate or taunt using military actions"

We don't refer to it as a police force, but it's not an army either

[–]YankeeBravo 0 points1 point ago

It really is in modern terms.

Hell, Japan even has "special forces" that are roughly similar to our airborne.

[–]rahtin 0 points1 point ago

That's what every military should be.

[–]irisher 9 points10 points ago

Meh. I would prefer my Army separate from Police force.

[–]BluShine 7 points8 points ago

Now that's just what a terrorist would say!

[–]cC2Panda 1 point2 points ago

It's the same shit with a different name. If things get out of hand for any reason, FEMA with the Army, or other military branches step in, and what is our military if not our personal global police force that we use as an extension to impress our laws on other countries?

[–]TheManOfTomorrow 1 point2 points ago

Militaries destroy things. Police maintain civility. Why would you want to mix the two?

[–]kissapuu -1 points0 points ago

Not necessarily the case. Military should be about defending the civilians, not destroying things, as you put it.

[–]DancesWithDaleks 1 point2 points ago

I'd rather have all the militaries be like police forces than all the police forces be like militaries.

[–]Relvnt_to_Yr_Intrsts 0 points1 point ago

Do you know why I'm I'm pulling you over today? Yep, that breeder reactor in your trunk isn't on your inspection sticker. License and registration please...

[–]smashybashy 0 points1 point ago

Yes, "police".

[–]mangybum 0 points1 point ago

Why should they not have tanks?

[–]AFatDarthVader 0 points1 point ago

It's definitely a military -- they don't call them police. It's called the Japan Self-Defense Force. They just can't be deployed outside of Japan.

[–]YankeeBravo 0 points1 point ago

Not really true anymore.

They've been involved in several UN peacekeeping missions, and took part in OIF.

[–]WomenzRightsLoL 13 points14 points ago

False. They are La-ocean, they're from Laos.

[–]manuel_robot_cleaner 14 points15 points ago

HANK HILL! I AM NOT CHINEESE I AM LAYOOSHEAN!!

[–]the_goat_boy 11 points12 points ago

So, are you Chinese or Japanese?

[–]ToadFoster 4 points5 points ago

The ocean? What ocean?

[–]treespleaseSC 5 points6 points ago

dumb hillbilly

[–]Nessie 0 points1 point ago

Lmaotians, maybe.

[–]jvardrake 1 point2 points ago

Yeah. A small detail like that's going to stop the weebs from trying to pump up Japan?

No way desu!

[–]chasemedown 0 points1 point ago

Plus, Japan has no army.

[–]dillyd 6 points7 points ago

Can we stop with this chain mail bullshit?

[–]walczyk 1 point2 points ago

Why couldn't they just use wood planks?

[–]1asers 104 points105 points ago

Chinese army 149th Light Mech Inf Division, 13th Group Army, Chengdu "Iron Fist Division".

Now i just want to piss in a radiator.

[–]exankit 2 points3 points ago

Gorkha regiment of INDIAN ARMY ; in NORTH EAST of INDIA

[–]1asers 1 point2 points ago

I love the Gorkha's and i regard them as among the Worlds best elite military units. However, their uniforms are much better looking than these. (Also Gorkha's fashion Beret, or what is the more famous "Gurkha Hat".)

As i have said in a previous post. These are the old ugly ass uniforms of the chinese military complete with that horrendous brown belt.

Furthermore, the 4th person in the picture is looking towards the camera and you can just spot the PLA insignia on his cap.

Both the cap and the brown belts can be traced to the above picture that i have provided.

[–]congocross 136 points137 points ago

Japan has Japan Self-Defense Forces but no army. From the picture it looks like members of the Chinese army. If this was Japan, then they would had use a robot or a anime character to help the flood victims cross the river.

[–]gman94 5 points6 points ago

Robot anime tentacle monster with bad dubbing

[–]MN_Shayamaladingdong 0 points1 point ago

that is simultaneously penetrating three holes.

[–]manuel_robot_cleaner 6 points7 points ago

Or maybe they tamed Godzilla.

[–]DisapprovingSeal 6 points7 points ago

You just don't want to clean the robot.

[–]AFatDarthVader 2 points3 points ago

The JSDF is most definitely an army, it's just an army that can't be deployed abroad.

[–]AsDevilsRun 1 point2 points ago

They have a branch of their self-defense forces called the Japan Ground Self-Defense Force whose main purpose is land-based military operations that has mortars, tanks, APCs, etc., but yes, they do not technically have an army.

They also have the 6th highest "military" expenditures in the world.

[–]masoc 20 points21 points ago

Those are not Japanese. You can tell by pixels.

[–]shard972 5 points6 points ago

The pixels are soo... so........wide.

[–]JestersXIII 16 points17 points ago

Not 100% sure but this looks more like the Chinese Army than the Japanese Defense Force.

[–]mddie 15 points16 points ago

Those are Chinese soliders, flooding is common in some parts of China and the local paramilitary normally responds to them.

[–]willscy 0 points1 point ago

there's a reason they call the Yellow river the scourge of China.

[–]doyouunderstandlife 11 points12 points ago

2 for 2 with the obvious reposts attached with fake story, OP. Stop posting, please.

[–]ILL_Show_Myself_Out 22 points23 points ago

They're like... A bridge over trouble water! They have laid themselves down.

[–]TheGanjaGuru -4 points-3 points ago

All I can say is congratulations. That is a highly relevant pun.

[–]jrondon[!] 25 points26 points ago

Bridging. Taking planking to another level.

[–]Mackinstyle 11 points12 points ago

You mean, "to another shore."

[–]DeCiWolf 2 points3 points ago

I think you're taking this a bridge too far.

[–]TurtleRapist 2 points3 points ago

He clearly needs to work on his attention span.

[–]ceakay -1 points0 points ago

You know reddit is too young when this has no upvotes.

Fear not brother.

[–]Energy_Turtle 3 points4 points ago

Some of us "older" folks just dislike pun threads and think they add nothing to the conversation.

[–]Lord_Bumberchute 11 points12 points ago

It's good to see the military used as building materials. That kind of thing is great.

[–]CasualHello 2 points3 points ago

There is a wooden bridge under them, right?

[–]brevityis 3 points4 points ago

Nope, cables. There COULD be planks there, but since there aren't, the soldiers = planks.

[–]binarypower 5 points6 points ago

Like... boners?

[–]acemcmuffin 5 points6 points ago

This is the chinese army...get your resources right

[–]Bbmaster91 11 points12 points ago

This would not have worked in America. There are too many fat people. There would have been some casualties.

[–]cypherreddit -3 points-2 points ago

plus the army would have just pointed guns at everyone and tell them to go somewhere else (but not somewhere safe)

EDIT: To the down-voters: sorry, my mistake, the army would never do that to citizens, especially during a giant flood

[–]cypherreddit 0 points1 point ago

am I supposed to think "oh golly, those guys are pretty bad! I should be down right happy that our military only occasionally kills civilians".

comparing something to something worse doesn't make the first something better. all you have shown is things can get worse.

[–]blackishdog -4 points-3 points ago

They aren't letting adults cross, just children. It wouldn't have made a difference.

[–]Bbmaster91 12 points13 points ago

Have you seen some kids nowadays?

[–]theytooktomallen 12 points13 points ago

It's good to see the military used to help people. That kind of thing is great.

[–]braunshaver 10 points11 points ago

The PLA in China is actually great with natural disasters. Most of them aren't all evil and bad, back in the Tiananmen Massacre they had to ship in PLA troops from far away to get troops that would actually obey orders and control the populace.

[–]the_goat_boy 5 points6 points ago

A lot of PLA troops were killed during the siege. Some of them were dragged out of their vehicles and clubbed to death by protesters.

[–]Gnodgnod 0 points1 point ago

My father was there. He was on a business trip, so he wasn't on either side and told me the same thing.

[–]DownvoterAccount 1 point2 points ago

[citation needed]

[–]Lavarocked 0 points1 point ago

Wow, my first reaction was that hey, maybe the Tienanmen square massacre had multiple sides to it, to some kind of substantial degree..

And then I remembered the reason that this PLA soldier was mobilized in the first place- it was because the Chinese people were asking for rights and democracy. That guys's killing, while perhaps unwise, was fairly justifiable.

[–]blackishdog 2 points3 points ago

"Japanese Army" Whet? Japan has no army.

[–]the_goat_boy 4 points5 points ago

Only in the strictly legal sense. In a practical sense, they do have an army.

[–]Nessie 1 point2 points ago

They have cops who patrol in F-15s.

[–]TimestopBestPower 2 points3 points ago

Japan doesn't have Japanese people in it's army, it has Americans...

[–]hoikarnage -1 points0 points ago

This is probably somebody's fetish.

[–]Dr-Mabuse 1 point2 points ago

Like ants.

[–]flammenwerfer 0 points1 point ago

Last one there's a penis pump!

[–]ismellburnttoast 0 points1 point ago

YOU'RE NOT MY DAD

[–]adescamo 0 points1 point ago

Quick! There's no time, I must touch all this butts!

[–]longlashedlady 1 point2 points ago

Now THAT is serving your country.

[–]notstacy 1 point2 points ago

because wood is obsolete

[–]InvaderDJ 1 point2 points ago

Can someone tell me why they're doing this? There seems to be cables and rods or something to walk on, this seems like a huge waste of manpower.

[–]Relvnt_to_Yr_Intrsts 0 points1 point ago

because China.

[–]h0neyqueen 1 point2 points ago

They are Chinese.

[–]Aubrey76 0 points1 point ago

They are doing a Great Job Whoever They are.

[–]Emb3rSil 1 point2 points ago

RE: RE: RE: RE: AMAZING PHOTO OF THE FLOODS, TRULY A HUMAN TRIUMPH !!MUST SEE!!

[–]ascend112 1 point2 points ago

Ah, but can you not also build bridges out of stone?

[–]UniversalFarrago -1 points0 points ago

Good thing these weren't American soldiers. Poor things would have been snapped right in half.

[–]Photographic_Eye 0 points1 point ago

The pixels are...strong with this one...

[–]yeungx -1 points0 points ago

I am pretty sure this is just some sort of fetish porn. It is Japan after all.

[–]Ownfir 1 point2 points ago

I can't help but feel like it would have been far more efficient to have had them bring planks, and just lay those down. 8+ guys taking the place of something that a inanimate object could do just seems highly unpractical.

[–]I0I0I0I 0 points1 point ago

I imagine they just wanted to get those five survivors across that gap quickly and safely and the guy in charge didn't see the need to over-engineer the solution. The whole rescue probably took only 15 minutes.

[–]Ownfir 1 point2 points ago

Ah okay, I thought this was supposed to be a semi-permanent (6 hours ish) bridge.

[–]I0I0I0I 0 points1 point ago

Oh yeah, I'd agree that that would be a silly fix.

[–]YankeeBravo 0 points1 point ago

Hey, it's the PLA and conscripts. If they need to be planks for 9 hours, it's probably because some PLA brass decided they're more cost effective than lumber

[–]I0I0I0I 0 points1 point ago

Yadda yadda.

[–]ddfitz 0 points1 point ago

This doesn't seem like the mopst efficient use of humans.

[–]I0I0I0I 0 points1 point ago

If that's the best way to get across a broken cable bridge, that's how you do it. Survival depends on it.

These guys are trained to think that way.

[–]pulsatrix 0 points1 point ago

If there ever comes a time when all nations can resolve disagreements by words and not through violence, I imagine this photo exemplifies what the primary role of an army could become.

[–]Senor_Wilson 1 point2 points ago

Who's brave enough to flip around?

[–]SamiNami 0 points1 point ago

Seems like a nice day off int marines :)

[–]tesnakeinurboot 0 points1 point ago

Except the Japanese aren't allowed to have a military after the conditions of their surrender in WW2.

[–]JestersXIII 0 points1 point ago

They are allowed to maintain a National Defense Force to assist in national emergencies and international peace keeping initiatives.

[–]tesnakeinurboot 0 points1 point ago

But they haven't been allowed an army or navy and instead we have a military occupation of the country. My brother is a Navy Air Mechanic that was stationed there for a few years.

[–]JestersXIII 0 points1 point ago

I'm just trying to clear up the mistake here in that what OP is probably referring to is the JSDF which is akin to the military of Japan.

I still think this is the Chinese army though.

[–]YelloJuso 0 points1 point ago

This looks like the PLA. The Japanese Army (GSDF) uses a different uniform.

[–]NotoriousADD 0 points1 point ago

nah man, i'm pretty sure the JSDF uses this uniform

[–]Illivah 0 points1 point ago

Why? because why not. Sure, we could fix the bridge, but it's manlier just to lye down and let them walk on top of your back.

[–]I0I0I0I 0 points1 point ago

It's a brilliant short term solution, provided you have enough bodies to bridge the gap.

First guy lays across cables, second guy climbs over him and lays across, etc.; people use bridge; guy who laid down first then uses bridge, followed by second guy, etc.

Voila! Everyone is across.

[–]exankit 1 point2 points ago

hey this is not japanese army ; this is INDIAN ARMY in north east of india

[–]momox 0 points1 point ago

Wouldn't it be more efficient to carry each child?

[–]Spaghe-t 0 points1 point ago

Japanese Army

Army Army Army Army

[–]Undeserved_Insults 0 points1 point ago

I'd really like to get stuck in those floods sometimes in the near future.

What a great opportunity to grab me some of the fine soldier man-ass.

[–]Socky_McPuppet 0 points1 point ago

[–]mudg3 0 points1 point ago

wow OP is a serial re poster and taker of credit for stuff they didnt do.

[–]KUweatherman 0 points1 point ago

"So, this one time when I was younger I was friend zoned and the girl used me as a bridge to cross a stream. Lets all try that to help these folks!"

[–]greyshades -2 points-1 points ago

The important thing here is not reposting or accuracy. These guys literally laid down to let others get to safety. If you haven't done it, don't judge. It takes a sincere moment of decision to get to this place. Before you ask, yes. I was in the military. I respect anyone, regardless of nationality, who chooses to help instead of harm.

[–]brevityis 2 points3 points ago

I'm not in the military, and, if they'd take my short ass for the planks, I'd do that too. They were laying on ropes spaced fairly regularly apart, basically providing a more sturdy foundation for the kids to crawl across so they wouldn't fall between the ropes.

Admirable, but not excessively so.

[–]greyshades -2 points-1 points ago

My point was that if you were in the military that you would react accordingly.

[–]Disgustapated -1 points0 points ago

Later that day they went on to cave a Buddhist monks heads in

[–]LarrytheLifeguard 1 point2 points ago

OP is the greatest faggot of them all

[–]snizznuke 0 points1 point ago

As far as I know Japan isn't even allowed to have a military...

[–]Eifandil 0 points1 point ago

Defense force.

[–]dawnroselyn -2 points-1 points ago

This still don't forgive 'em for what they done to us at Omaha Beach.

[–]Forrest02 0 points1 point ago

that happened 60 years ago...

[–]JohnScribbles -3 points-2 points ago

it's a training exercise

[–]Jaquestrap -3 points-2 points ago

This is the Laotian army, not the Japanese or Chinese army.

[–]Goranora -5 points-4 points ago

If there is even one chink in the chain, the whole structure will simply collapse.

[–]brevityis 1 point2 points ago

Huh? They're laying on cables. Basically they're giving the kids something wider than a wire to use to cross, not actually creating the structure.

[–]FallschirmPanda -1 points0 points ago

Racist joke is whoosh.

Also, as a Chinese guy, I still giggled.
