It was interesting that yesterday I was listening to a radio station designed for a more mature audience, where the topic of YOLO came up.

The person who was hearing abut YOLO for the first time initially thought that this what they meant by YOLO: "Don't do drugs because you only live once", before the other person explained its negative reference.

I think this is what most people think when they learn about YOLO for the first time, and then have confusion about the context that it is put in.

Personally I believe that if there was a national safety campaign based around YOLO, getting you to buckle up, not drink and drive, use a pedestrian crossings because... "you only live once." Then perhaps we can get the moronic term put into its correct context

I'm not sure I exactly understand the hate behind "YOLO" Is it because it's used so much, or is it because it has potential to yield terrible consequences?

I think it's good to look at life as though you only live once, a reminder to make the most of your life and occasionally take chances that you normally wouldn't. When it boils down to a teen getting knocked up because "YOLO" Well that's fucking stupid... but do you think she's doing it because she said YOLO and that magically made her stupid?

Here's the thing, reddit: "YOLO" is annoying as hell when dumbass tweens say it, but it's actually kind of a great way to think about life. Being mindful of the fact that "you only live once" helps you keep things in perspective. It shouldn't mean "take dumbass irresponsible risks," it just means that you only get one shot at life, so treasure every moment. It's another way of saying "life is short."
