former kid here. all mailboxes, road signs, trees and telephone poles were magnetic for the whole time i was learning to ride a bike.

[–]n1ffuM 38 points39 points ago

That's because you were staring at them while you're riding. Your body tends to go where your eyes tell it to go.

[–]PARSLEYsage 15 points16 points ago

That's just what dad used to say. He doesn't say much anymore. I guess his eyes went a wanderin'.

[–]dan2737 5 points6 points ago

Is it just me or does that sound like something Rucks would say?

[–]intertron1 -1 points0 points ago

TIL Uncle Ruckus is hilariously racist and homophobic.

[–]gooddaysir 1 point2 points ago

Very important for snowboarding/skiing if you decide to go into the trees. Look between the trees, not at them. Otherwise, Sonny Bono.

[–]WhiskeyMeteorite 1 point2 points ago

First thing they teach you in motorcycle class, look where you want to go.

[–]Chukwulatte 1 point2 points ago

I stared at my pedals for the longest time. Till my dad shouted at me to stop.

[–]epic720 1 point2 points ago

Exactly my thoughts.

[–]anthrax704 23 points24 points ago

Target fixation. Learned to avoid doing this when I got my motorcycle.

[–]Peacecrafts 0 points1 point ago

How many tries did it take you to get it down?

[–]anthrax704 3 points4 points ago

Around the 4th time I started suspecting that I was doing something wrong. Then on the 6th it hit me.

[–]Kazinsal 0 points1 point ago

I think it hit you on tries one through five as well.

[–]esw116 0 points1 point ago

I applies to almost everything which involves forward motion and control, with or without human power.

[–]WelcomeMachine 0 points1 point ago

yup

[–]grandmacaesar 14 points15 points ago

First attempt, I crashed into a tree and went home with a bleeding scrotum.

I drove by the old homestead a few weeks ago, and saw the tree had been hit by lightning.

I smiled.

[–]Berdiie 0 points1 point ago

First time I tried my brother's dirt bike I lost control, raced across our giant field and slammed into my dad's motorcycle.

[–]WhatTheFedex 2 points3 points ago

My brother went on a motorcycle trip in the desert with my uncle. Completely dry, very little vegetation at all. He crashed into the only cactus nearby.

[–]viddles -2 points-1 points ago

Must tag "do not piss of or hurt"

[–]R3dn3ck96 3 points4 points ago

Another former kid here. I can confirm.

[–]OneSilentE 1 point2 points ago

Man reddit has experts on everything

[–]TheDentite 0 points1 point ago

I was laughing at how dumb he was, then remembered all the various objects I've slammed myself into. So good point.

[–]Abe_Odd 0 points1 point ago

I swore a rock jumped out in front of me once. Also, am I the only one wondering why the dad sent his kid straight down a hill into a tree?

[–]hirajo 0 points1 point ago

I saw my brother hitting trees, mailbox and the garage. So being the smart kid I tried to do the exact opposite ended up riding in to the hedges and I did that past any garage, mailbox or tree. LIKE A BAWS!

[–]FOUR_YOLO -2 points-1 points ago

whiskey throttle
on a bike

[–]cherrychoochoo 34 points35 points ago

If you watch closely, the kid takes his feet off the pedals and changes his facial expression to horror a good 25-30 feet away from the pole. He knew he was going to hit the pole from so far away, he just didn't know how to steer yet.

[–]mang87 18 points19 points ago

Poor kid. Hasn't really grasped yet that taking your feet off the pedals doesn't cause you to stop right away.

[–]heracleides 9 points10 points ago

That's what the tree is for. He meant to do that.

[–]sterfpaul 3 points4 points ago

It was inevitable.

[–]SharkieBoy 0 points1 point ago

Brakes!! Brakes!! Where are the brakes on this thing ?

[–]Drunkturtle 2 points3 points ago

I fucking did this when I was a kid.

"Oh hey, something is nearing me at a fair distance! Better freak out and remove my feet and hands from the bike, that will fix everything." God I was so retarded as a kid.

Good thing that car slowed down or I would be dead.

[–]dookieface 1 point2 points ago

I did that once going down a street that was on a hill and i was goign down towards an intersection on a busy street. good thing, it was a red light and ran into someones car waiting for the light.

[–]steve_b 0 points1 point ago

As a dad who recently has been teaching my son to ride a bike, I can tell you a big part of the problem was the parent had set the seat on that bike way too high. The kid's feet can barely touch the ground.

[–]devcmacd 0 points1 point ago

Fuck OP for not posting video. The kid actually just says "Stoooooooop" as he heads to his doom.

[–]dial_m_for_me 96 points97 points ago

[–]koy1 33 points34 points ago

i don't get it, he should crash into that tree. not successfully perform an awesome bicycle somersault

[–]xSARGEx117x 14 points15 points ago

I watched that whole video expecting some crash. There is no crash

10/10 Would watch again

[–]irawwwr 8 points9 points ago

It's Youtube, not LiveLeak

[–]mspeter 7 points8 points ago

STAY ON YA BIKE DANNY!!!

[–]dial_m_for_me -1 points0 points ago

That's a different Danny - MacAskill.

[–]acog 2 points3 points ago

I'm well aware of that. But the quote "Stay on ya bike, Danny!" comes from that video.

[–]dial_m_for_me -1 points0 points ago

Oh, didn't hear it there.

[–]dasredditore 1 point2 points ago

I've never been so happy to see someone become the world champion of a sport I didn't know existed previously!!!

[–]uSeeWhatiDidThere 4 points5 points ago

I love that video because of how the people react when he jumps off a bridge at 5:06

[–]r0b0c0d 1 point2 points ago

That, and is this the one where the guy hops down the subway stairs as well?

[–]patefoisgras 3 points4 points ago

This should be a sport, not the boring "I can bike forever" thing.

[–]nefario 1 point2 points ago

Fookin hell THE SPIKEY RAILING!!! How did he not impale himself? I could not stand to watch the bloopers for this.

[–]my2penniesworth 1 point2 points ago

I just watched that video last night after about a year since the last time....it was my first 'favorite' on YT. It really is breath-taking. My favorite stunt is the tree flip.

[–]WombatDominator -1 points0 points ago

I really hate that song.

[–]Temporarily__Alone 0 points1 point ago

That guy should not be alive.

[–]Sexy_Rhino 1 point2 points ago

He has tried it so many times he has perfected it.

[–]mpk_thegrimmace 1 point2 points ago

Reminds me of when I was younger and my little sister was learning to ride a bike and started going down a steep road and all I see is my mom hauling ass after her and I turn around to see her run right into a fire hydrant and do a back flip over it. Then my mom (smoker at the time) having to carry my crying sister back up to my dad who was watching a football game and who's only response is the "oh she will be alright." Mom was pissed!

[–]SANAFABICH 2 points3 points ago

I'm pretty sure there's some matrix shit going on right there, no way he's not breaking some kind of physics law.

[–]TimeTravelMishap 19 points20 points ago

This is so much better with sound

[–]lAmShocked 4 points5 points ago

Why did they stop filming!!!

[–]RandomRageNet 15 points16 points ago

...Because their child just rode his bike into a large pole and was possibly injured?

[–]heracleides -4 points-3 points ago

They should get a tripod so they can guide their kid instead of waiting for the worst and then helping after the fact. If they were concerned.

[–]KyleNozcak 3 points4 points ago

Dat crunch

[–]0Gravity 17 points18 points ago

Object fixation.

[–]epic720 4 points5 points ago

hehehehe

[–]heracleides 2 points3 points ago

After years of TV, this kid will be ready to vote.

[–]coffeemug20 6 points7 points ago

I like to imagine this kid screaming like a samurai charging into battle as he rolls down the hill.

[–]Gabino75 3 points4 points ago

Never, NEVER, take your feet off the pedals.

[–]tchiseen 0 points1 point ago

Or your eye off the pole

[–]AndrewNeo 4 points5 points ago

That might have helped, in this case, actually.

[–]Dubbys 2 points3 points ago

It's called "Target Fixation" and almost everyone does it, you have to train yourself not to do it. As a motorcyclist i see most crashes happen from this, instead of steering to safety the rider steers directly at what they shouldn't.

[–]theyellowdragon 3 points4 points ago

the helmet did absolutely nothing

[–]nasdreg 12 points13 points ago

Yeah because it's on the back of his head. It really winds me up when parents do that.

[–]jbockcet 3 points4 points ago

I'm so glad he didn't get hit by a car.

[–]tchiseen 2 points3 points ago

I can't wait to put my kids on wheels and push them down hills.

[–]mrpickles 2 points3 points ago

His helmet was too loose and sitting too far back on his head...

[–]blefis 1 point2 points ago

[–]JohnScribbles 2 points3 points ago

A+ to the dad who decided the best course of action would be to NOT put down the camera and make sure his kid didn't go head first into a pole, but instead to properly document the whole thing.

[–]zeppelinfromled 8 points9 points ago

Yeah, because most people, when recording a video, don't look into the camera, but instead look 20 feet to their left.

[–]epic720 2 points3 points ago

It's funny because if he wasn't so focused on hitting the pole he may have been able to avoid it. This is why I think children are brilliant. They really show us the ways that we let our mind work over our body.

[–]Fudanchi 9 points10 points ago

It's funny because he slammed into a pole.

[–]Ibster 2 points3 points ago

[–]barneylebowski 0 points1 point ago

This happened to me as a kid as well. You get tunnel vision and you can't avoid anything. Sometimes you hit it twice.

[–]Thediepend 2 points3 points ago

I too become paralyzed when I freak the fuck out

[–]casaqueso 0 points1 point ago

I'm 25 and biked into my own parked car this summer. I thought it would be fun to get a bike again after 15 years of not having one. It wasn't fun.

[–]viddles 1 point2 points ago

It's like riding a.... Oh wait...

[–]Poncyhair 1 point2 points ago

Maybe he's recreating that scene from The Happening

[–]theczechmexican 0 points1 point ago

Ladies and Gentlemen, thus the Tractor Beam effect also works on bikes.

[–]Nickdanger3rdEye 0 points1 point ago

He was doing so well until his parents realized that he was too paralyzed with fear to turn.

[–]maestro2005 0 points1 point ago

[–]kushiro07 0 points1 point ago

I didn't see that coming, or me going to it :D :D

[–]BicthBeCool 0 points1 point ago

Feels exactly like the relation i've with my gf

[–]chessuscrust -1 points0 points ago

'MERICA

[–]slippy__toad 0 points1 point ago

Sheesh Falco! you too?

[–]Sexy_Rhino 1 point2 points ago

Mom is wearing Tommy Hilfiger. Dad is neglecting his child filming him into a tree.

[–]llsinisterll 0 points1 point ago

Mom.MOM! How do I turn!

[–]vikesfanben28 0 points1 point ago

[–]coolkid9 0 points1 point ago

I'm Johnny Knoxville, and this is the pole ride.

[–]adiooutloud 0 points1 point ago

thought he was gonna get hit by a car...

[–]Speark 0 points1 point ago

Its not the kids fault the pole was just blocking his path

[–]The_Exploding_Boy 0 points1 point ago

Was I the only one who heard the 90s America's Funniest Home Videos theme song while watching this?

[–]amazoncon 1 point2 points ago

THIS is why it's damned stupid to wear your bike helmet tilted back like that. The kid hits the front of his head on the post just as if the helmet was not there.

[–]pineyfusion 0 points1 point ago

That is painful....I crashed into a car on my bike before...I was bruised in places that I never hope to see anybody bruised ever in my life. I'm only glad that I'm not a dude or else I wouldn't be able to have children.

[–]Cormorrant 0 points1 point ago

Reminded me of that scene in austin powers where the guy got smushed by a steam roller. I am not a maker of gifs. Or poster of images. But I can do other things though!

[–]gndn 1 point2 points ago

A gif version of that would be useless because the overdramatic scream is what really makes that one hilarious.

[–]Bubblesthekid 0 points1 point ago

Took the feet off the pedals. Dont EVER take your feet the pedals. Rookie.

[–]hivesteel 1 point2 points ago

Damn I was sure he was going to get hit by a car, a tree seems a bit underwhelming now.

[–]Naggers123 0 points1 point ago

I was seriously expecting something really really bad to happen. Bloody Reddit has ruined me.

[–]pwbdecker 0 points1 point ago

That is exactly how I learned to bike. When I was about 7, my parents would sit me on the bike, and push me down a hill at the local park. I'd go barreling down until I wiped out at the bottom, then they'd pick me up, drag me back up, and do it again.

[–]pingthepong 0 points1 point ago

[–]Lovestheclassyladies -1 points0 points ago

Now he always has to wear that helmet

[–]NBurg 0 points1 point ago

I quickly learned in life that when you see a clip of a child on a bake, there is a 99% chance he will crash.

[–]akuaman23 0 points1 point ago

I don't feel any pity for the kid.

[–]br0000d 0 points1 point ago

This actually happened to me, except instead of a tree it was my neighbors fence. That face shaped dent stayed there for 10 years until they finally got a new fence.

[–]GuyFleegman 0 points1 point ago

Target fixation.

[–]GrantChocula 0 points1 point ago

[–]rob18 0 points1 point ago

And now back to America's Funniest Home videos.

[–]Zacbittner21 0 points1 point ago

Is it bad I was waiting for a car to hit him ._.

[–]AJoCro 0 points1 point ago

I wonder how many parents video tape their children learning how to ride a bike, in hopes that they will catch a hilarious video

[–]dMarrs 0 points1 point ago

that was me the first time i was pushed down and incline..but i went into a blackberry thicket. Once i thought i had the hang of it..i rode my bike through a thicket of vines..just like my buddy had just done. A vine wrapped around my neck ,i was jerked off of my bike, dropped to the ground ..knocking the breathe out of me. My school photos looked like someone tried to strangle me with a cord. a finger wide scab was around the front of my neck

[–]G0083Rv3 0 points1 point ago

More like no reaction gif.

[–]smelons 0 points1 point ago

am i the only one who thought a car was going to appear out of nowhere and hit him O-o

[–]Pupeteer 0 points1 point ago

That's what he gets for trying to show off.

[–]bigwave111 0 points1 point ago

[–]mryodaman 0 points1 point ago

My train of thought : "Car? Car? Curb?... Post!"

[–]rolltidemfos 0 points1 point ago

I was certain an 18 wheeler was going to come out of nowhere and nail the kid

[–]MightyGamera 1 point2 points ago

"PIIIIIIZZAAAAAAAAAAA-"

[–]rebelreligion 0 points1 point ago

Poor little kid.

[–][deleted] 0 points1 point ago

Funny, I did the same thing at a campground. But I knew how to bike, and I wasn't going down hill... and it was a tree

[–]Pertz 0 points1 point ago

Sad part is his parent didn't put his helmet on properly, so his forehead slammed in to that post like a hammer. I see kids with helmets slipped back like this all the time, why not just let the kid ride without it?

[–]ElongatedVagina 0 points1 point ago

Am i the only one who was scared shitless that a car was gonna hit him?

[–]TruthBypass 0 points1 point ago

OSH KOSH OHMYGOSH thunk

[–]kibbe 0 points1 point ago

This reminds me of the day I learned to ride my bike. I was so proud of myself that when my mom got home from work (dad was teaching me) that I got on my bike and started to ride down the street. As I was riding along I turned to look back to see if my mom was looking and by the time I turne back around I ran into a parked car and landed chin first on the pavement. Still have a scar on my chin from it.

[–]MHdaJuiceman 0 points1 point ago

daaaaaaaaaaad. Watch the video and listen to him call for his dad. So monotone and helpless. Hilarious.

[–]HitlerDidNothingBad 0 points1 point ago

Until it all went downhill

[–]ITSxDARE 0 points1 point ago

how does this get karma? I think I saw this when fucking failblog was still around and well

[–]pighalf 0 points1 point ago

Is this from America's funniest home videos? It's sooo funny!

[–]easyantic 0 points1 point ago

This is almost exactly what happened when I learned to ride a bike, except I crossed the cross street with a car coming in both directions. I panicked and pedaled instead of hitting the break...narrowly missing both cars, but hitting the telephone pole head-on.

[–]0PointE 0 points1 point ago

My computer stopped playing the gif when his face was an inch away from the pole and just froze there for a few seconds. I imagined the Dukes of Hazzard narrator saying something along the lines of 'looks like the boys 's about to hit the wall' and then it continued with the awesome smash.

[–]Lostdreamer89 0 points1 point ago

I was honestly expecting a truck to come across him...

[–]WhiskyTango78 0 points1 point ago

Pro Tip: Don't look at objects you don't want to hit. Know where they are, but don't look at them.

[–]A_Giant_midget 0 points1 point ago

This is why I constantly tell my friend's daughter, "Never take your feet off of the pedals!" No brakes, no control, you will crash.

[–]dog_in_the_vent 0 points1 point ago

Am I the only one who thinks this .gif is representative of Barack Obama's reelection race up until the first debate with his opponent?

[–]Bro_Hawkins 0 points1 point ago

Stretch that over 3 1/2 years, and you'll have summed up my last relationship.

[–]arandomguyhere 1 point2 points ago

I've been on reddit too long. I was waiting for the truck to come smash this kid, him flipping violently in the air for a nice 720 flip, and landing on his head.... I hate this site

[–]ColumW 0 points1 point ago

Just check the subreddit before you watch the gif.

r/WTF -> This is when you should expect death.

r/Funny -> He'll be fine. Probably.

r/gif -> Who am I kidding. No one goes here.

[–]Aerodrome32 -2 points-1 points ago

Who the hell teaches a kid to ride a bike on one with no brakes?

[–]balchynz 6 points7 points ago

Probably had the kind of brakes where you apply backward pressure to the pedals.

As soon as he took his feet of the pedals he was poked.

[–]veedubber7 -2 points-1 points ago

Get your kids full faced helmets!
