Westboro 101

[–]zabimaru1000 20 points21 points ago

This is accurate on so many levels.

[–]MSpainting 15 points16 points ago

The problem with the WBC method is that they teach their children how to read which is why so many of them end up running away.

[–]SuddenlyTimewarp 14 points15 points ago

Ah, the old Frederick Douglass loophole.

[–]ItscalledCannabis 0 points1 point ago

Do you know what you're talking about? Or are you just talking about cults in general? WBC is a troll group, they know how to play the game and they use religion as a front. I've seen interviews where LGBT advocates talk about spending times with WBC leaders and realizing that the WBC isn't as crazy as they say they are. Their kids know what's going on from an early age, they usually join the group because their parents are the group...

[–]cyclepathology 4 points5 points ago

I've seen interviews where LGBT advocates talk about spending times with WBC leaders

What if those LGBT advocates are the trolls and they just want you to THINK "...WBC isn't as crazy as they say they are"?

[–]Kyoraki 0 points1 point ago

Because either they're crazy, or they're a vicious group of people that prey on the weak, and provoke them towards violence in order to issue a lawsuit. Tbh, painting them as just being crazy puts them in a much better light.

[–]cyclepathology 0 points1 point ago

Exactly.

[–]julianne1965 2 points3 points ago

They read a bit: hate, fag, god, die, etc.

[–]Huh_no 0 points1 point ago

Uh, he's describing an average US fundi christian, not the single family known as WBC

[–]rasungod0 5 points6 points ago

but I got karma...

[–]adammurabit 84 points85 points ago

That was a very good answer.

10/10, Would read again.

[–]massoutput 2 points3 points ago

It is a good answer. But that didn't work on me.

[–]adammurabit 2 points3 points ago

That's unfortunate, JT.

[–]massoutput 1 point2 points ago

These things happen.

[–]bwc_28 0 points1 point ago

Just means you beat the system.

[–]owlsrule143 23 points24 points ago

And again, and again, and again (this is a major repost)

[–]Speaking-of-segues 45 points46 points ago

first time i've seen it and I'm grateful he reposted

that was brilliant

[–]foobiscuit 2 points3 points ago

The writer, I believe, would be David McAfee. If you want, check him out on facebook. He has a book called "Disproving Christianity." I am about 80% through. It's pretty awesome honestly.

[–]WoollyMittens 7 points8 points ago

I immediately recognised it as a repost, but it also filled me with the same joy as a sports fan watching the replays of his favourite team. All we need is slow-motion.

[–]Kealper 3 points4 points ago

And yet, OP is still bathing in link karma.

[–]champasniffer 6 points7 points ago

Woop-de-do, they got fake Internet points for sharing a picture.

[–]mathgod 0 points1 point ago

I SAW THIS ALREADY, I DON'T EVER FUCKING WANT TO SEE IT AGAIN

[–]kenttouchthis 2 points3 points ago

A+++++++++++++ WRITER! EASY AND ENJOYABLE READ.

[–]joebooty 0 points1 point ago

Good Stuff. =)

This is the best advice I've ever read.

I'll be sure to take heed and raise my future children accordingly.

[–]DeadmanDexter 3 points4 points ago

Lobotomy would be easier.

[–]ellipsisca 0 points1 point ago

I realized this is one of those things that get circle jerked around but God Damn! that is awesome...

[My first time seeing it by BTW]

[–]Deceptiveideas 1 point2 points ago

Eh, I kind of enjoy older reposts. Since the last time this was posted was about a year ago, I'm sure tons of people are going to see it. In fact, this was the first time I saw it.

It is kind of like replaying Star Wars Blu Ray edition with your kid. Repost? Sure, but it has been a long time...

[–]it_am_silly 2 points3 points ago

40% from two votes? That's some interesting maths.

[–]EvilSockPuppet 9 points10 points ago

Two out of five votes?

[–]culpepper 1 point2 points ago

Holy shit, that's awesome!!

[–]natedog62 1 point2 points ago

Don't let them on reddit.

[–]jpaul3211 -2 points-1 points ago

"What is the best way to score karma from r/athiesm?" repost old shit.

[–]EEFred 16 points17 points ago

So those of us who haven't seen it should never get the chance? I don't understand why reddit hates reposts so much. Maybe you can enlighten me?

[–]coldcoffeereddit 17 points18 points ago

<4th wall>

I would posit it is the "get off my lawn" mentality. grumpy and depressed, when they see things that they've seen before it reminds them of how much time they spend here and how devoid their lives are of actual interaction with the world. That and they long for the joy that content they haven't seen before brings them, as it does us all.

The reality is if nobody truly thought it was interesting it wouldn't get upvoted. If there are enough people that havn't seen it, what does it matter if its a repost or OC? If it brings that same joy of finding something new to other people does it matter? It'll get upvotes from people who find it interesting and that really is what this place is all about isn't it?

</4th wall>

[–]KingBlumpkin 1 point2 points ago

I agree with this and posit an additional modifier. Those people also seem to think that Reddit, as a whole, is a close and tight-knit community. Even going as far as 'remembering the good old days' to impart some specialty to their posts.

They fail to understand the amount of traffic coming through the site, new users, casual users or people that upvote decent-quality reposts so that others may see them.

[–]MBAfail 3 points4 points ago

Ya, you guys keep reposting scripture from the old testament about killing people for working on the sabath, selling your daughter, not eating shellfish, etc....that shit's 2000 years old and reposted so fucking much....if you want OC here quit quoting the bible.

[–]jpaul3211 -1 points0 points ago

My complaint isn't about the observations being made. Make new observations or new sayings, or new interpretations about how horrible a religion is. That's a good thing. My complaint is really just how easy it is to get attention on reddit by saying something that everybody agrees with over and over again. No new ideas are created and it feels like the community is depreciated as a whole because of it.

[–]PurpleSweatshirt 6 points7 points ago

Last post nine months ago. Wouldn't you assume we've gained viewership since then?

[–]daxarx 2 points3 points ago

I would have been mildly irritated but after seeing that it bothers you, I am all in favor of it. You are an irritating troll.

[–]jpaul3211 -2 points-1 points ago

How am I trolling? Is making an observation is trolling?

[–]5k3k73k 3 points4 points ago

Its the first time I have seen it. Fuck you.

[–]jpaul3211 -2 points-1 points ago

:( Wow that hurts deep.

[–]LordAnon5703 1 point2 points ago

Being a dick seems to work , too.

[–]jpaul3211 0 points1 point ago

Being a dick on facebook* FTFY.

[–]AnnRutledge -1 points0 points ago

This is my friend in a nutshell. She has no idea what the difference is between 'when' and 'whenever' and will only use whenever. She has no grammar skills, is passable in writing (except the legibility) It saddens me.

[–]Bobthemathcow -1 points0 points ago

So THAT'S why my friend is so stupid!

[–]patholio -1 points0 points ago

hahahahahahahahahahahahahahahaha

[–]borgfinkleton 1 point2 points ago

This is older than sin, pun intended.

[–]LordAnon5703 0 points1 point ago

What would have been the reaction if the question was " How do I keep my child from being religious?"?

[–]wazzel2u 2 points3 points ago

Make him/her actually read the bible. That'd about do it.

[–]fotolabman 0 points1 point ago

i had never heard of the jumbo jet from a tornado before...

and after reading about it and that people use that as a way to prove intelligent design it makes my head hurt

[–]AnusHole 0 points1 point ago

i saw this yesterday, what the fuck OP.

[–]Tom_Zarek 0 points1 point ago

The raving lunatic in the desert part got a little cluster fucked IMO.

[–]paelf8 1 point2 points ago

This guy is my hero.

[–]noksky 0 points1 point ago

Amen.

[–]TEmpTom 0 points1 point ago

Honestly if they are dumb enough to post a question like that, they would be dumb enough to actually take the advice seriously, then that person would have effectively ruined a child's life.

[–]wizzrobe30 0 points1 point ago

SOOOO.... How many times has this been re-posted? :)

[–]fegd 0 points1 point ago

I lost it at the raving lunatic in the desert.

[–]OrangeAdventure 0 points1 point ago

This link is ancient, i remember seeing it around summer 2009.

[–]kingbane 1 point2 points ago

i would add one last rule to that list. "don't let them read the bible"

if you want to keep them from being an atheist, dont let em read that thing.

[–]Mack488 0 points1 point ago

I believe in God and am in petrol chemical engineering school.

You know actually DOING science.

[–]mangybum 1 point2 points ago

Bummer.

[–]RadioactiveHappiness 0 points1 point ago

Sometimes people are so hopelessly dependent on their beliefs that they believe them to be actually true, and are just trying to do the best for their kid, and help them from any form of punishment. She wasn't wrong in direction, but execution needs a little more work.

Just tell your kids that people of your religion are special and are better than all other people and religions. Just continue to reinforce that while they are young. After they're older and move away from religion they will have some hard times (like we all do) and they'll remember that they're special and go back to religion.

[–]hotdogscrum 0 points1 point ago

Like Mr. Hitchens would say... Bravo!

[–]PigAteMyPie 0 points1 point ago

David M you boss...

[–]mangybum 0 points1 point ago

Such an arrogant and ignorant question.

[–]xlava 0 points1 point ago

An oldie, but a goodie.

[–]sirwulf 1 point2 points ago

Asking a question on Y!A about how to be a bad, smothering parent

Gets a "look in the mirror" answer

Probably thinks that this is good advice

[–]betrayd430piecesofAg 0 points1 point ago

Another surefire way to prevent a child (or thinking adult) from becoming an atheist is to have the child (or thinking adult) spend an hour or two on r/atheism.

[–]prime124 0 points1 point ago

Thank you, person reposting this for the thousandith time

[–]unpopular_speech 0 points1 point ago

Yeah, I've been to "YahooAnswers". JT and DAVID M are the same person. Easier to knock 'em dead when you set 'em up in the first place.

[–]dolphin_rape_caves 0 points1 point ago

You used too many big words. They'll never get it.

[–]Green2Black -2 points-1 points ago

Well, talk about Knights of the Told Republic...

[–]Italian_Barrel_Roll 0 points1 point ago

Looking at the picture, I'd say the best way to stop your child from becoming an athiest is to teach them how to spell.

[–]Bearly_Mach -3 points-2 points ago

Check. Check. Check. ......

I've been doing it right all along.

[–]Bejoty -2 points-1 points ago

My old youth pastor goes by JT.

[–]napoleonsolo 2 points3 points ago

Will you raise them with a Democratic background? Will you drag them to Democratic political meetings for an hour or more every Sunday? Insist that they trust the Democratic party over the Republican party, and that the Republican party will ruin America, all this when they're 5?

Does any of that sound appropriate?

[–]daxarx 0 points1 point ago

No, because one is supposed to inculcate allegiance to the Republican party, not the Democratic party.

Wish I were joking

[–]TooManyInLitter 3 points4 points ago

Religion helps us deal with life's hardships.

Would you care to expand upon this in a new post? I would be interested to see how religion, the dogma and doctrine in the belief in supernatural Deities, helped you and your family with hardships. Or did you mean that the community, which happened to share a common religious sect, was there to help you and your family?

praying helps us find the positive outlook in life.

I would also be interesting on how prayer resulted in you having a more positive outlook in life? Where these prayers of petition/intercession that actually were divinely answered or other prayers that can better be described as meditation techniques or something else? From my prospective, prayers of petition/intercession to a non-answering non-evidential Deity, and expecting a positive answer, is nothing more than the abstention and dismissal of individual responsibility.

[–]loflrobster -4 points-3 points ago

gee i've never seen this one before and i'm definitely not about to downvote it

[–]ralph-j[!] -1 points0 points ago

The person asking such a question probably didn't need to change much then.

[–]easpider -3 points-2 points ago

What's better than a fundie facebook post, or a "i saw this on youtube" post... That's right, a yahoo answers post!

Let's upvote this shit to the front page! Hell yeah!

[–]fapping_smurf -3 points-2 points ago

That guy clearly overreacted. Being religiously intolerant is just as bad as believing any sort of nonsense that exists. People should learn compassion rather than to just debunk and ridicule another's beliefs. The asker asked politely, with no signs of imposition, just to have some advice to practice his faith. Maybe you people should learn to be tolerant of others even if their beliefs may seem illogical.

[–]Bluedemonfox 1 point2 points ago

Yes the guy did exaggerate quite a bit but it is still all true except some certain parts. He just said how you would raise stupid, intolerant, extremist Christians rather than the good Christians. That guy just displayed it in an ugly way rather than dressing it up all nice and pretty and sometimes you just have to be blunt for people to see the real truth ...

[–]fapping_smurf -1 points0 points ago

Yeah, you should be blunt if they try to argue or mock you, but this guy just straight out attacked him for no reason. You don't need to "dress it up all nice and pretty", just speak like a normal human being instead of being sardonic and insensitive.
