What is Kerbal Space Program?

Laggy game? Slow computer? This may help.

Hello! Welcome to the Kerbal Space Program subreddit! While discussing the game and all the sub orbital/ orbital shenanigans, we ask that you please keep all discussions and images PG.

If you want to submit a post that is of a dubious nature, don't. Send it to a mod first for approval.

*New Please refrain from submitting images that involve real space disasters, the sacrifices given by the crews of those missions deserves nothing less than utter respect. (unmanned missions are fair game)

A special thanks to user zuffdaddy for all his hard work on art and flair for this subreddit.

Brought a tear to my eye.

Why not link directly to the source? Why imgur it, and deprive the artist of ad revenue?

[–]vaelroth[S] 5 points6 points ago

To prevent the Reddit DDoS.

[–]whlabratz 4 points5 points ago

This has been discussed before. First of all, zen pencels has been on the front page of reddit several times. Second, even if half the people who click the link manage to get to the site, the site owner get hundreds of times more traffic than if you mirror it. As a site owner, I would much rather my site goes off-line because its too popular than because I can't afford to pay my bill. If you are concerned about DDoSing a site, link directly to it and put a mirror in the comments

[–]vaelroth[S] 2 points3 points ago

I've always seen people in favor of mirroring, and linking the source along with it. Some people don't have the change to be able to pay for going over their bandwidth limit, and I'd rather avoid that. Sorry I'm not familiar with every web comic and its ability to handle traffic. That being said, it was already imgur'd and I had to go find the source on my own.

October Skies anyone?

Not everything space related is Kerbal related.

Oh come on don't be a prick, we can use some more diverse content before we become regulating assholes.

[–]jooes -3 points-2 points ago

He's not being a prick, he's totally right. All these space posts have nothing to do with the game.

It'd be like posting "11 dead in Iraq today after a car bomb explosion!" to the Call of Duty 4 subreddit. It's dumb, and there's no reason for it.

[–]RocketMan63 2 points3 points ago

I definitely see your point. But I'm a bit conflicted. At one end I see reddit as a free place to post content and share ideas. However right now we're saying that a contribution from one of our members doesn't belong here. I think this comes down to exactly what people want a subreddit to be. Is a sub-reddit about the community or the content? If you say community then all ideas are welcome and we know we all share the common thread of the sub (KSP). However if you say content then the sub-reddit is about spreading content about KSP, our achievements, ships, and questions.

Now from a personal perspective I think we can allow a bit of both. We have plenty of KSP relevant content and honestly it get's kind of boring. So I appreciate the other content which is still kinda relevant as it relates to rocketry which is a huge part of KSP. However I will motion that we ban (fixed) posts from being submitted as their own submission and be restricted to the comments section of their relevant post.

[–]CUNTBERT_RAPINGTON 6 points7 points ago

This should be in /r/space.

It's kind of disappointing to me that the two top submissions currently have nothing to do with KSP. Not sure why anybody would upvote them over anything actually relevant, but I guess it's just a sign of what's ahead.

[–]ethangk 18 points19 points ago

Why is it disappointing? The game is encouraging people to become interested in space, which is a fantastic outcome. I get that there are some better suited subreddits for these posts, but my interpretation is that people are just excited about their newfound interest and are hoping to perhaps pass on their excitement to other people just getting into the game

[–]CUNTBERT_RAPINGTON 8 points9 points ago

The game is encouraging people to become interested in space, which is a fantastic outcome.

It's still a subreddit about a video game. If they'd like to branch out, I'm sure they'd be just as happy joining the relevant subreddit.

Being "too excited to stay on topic" isn't really a good excuse...

[–]CorbinStarlight 1 point2 points ago

If people thought that, it would have been downvoted. That's how the upvote/downvote system works. -shrug-

[–]CUNTBERT_RAPINGTON -3 points-2 points ago

I'm not sure if you've looked around Reddit lately, but I wouldn't say that the upvote/downvote system is working out too well by itself.

[–]nallar 3 points4 points ago

The biggest issue with content is that you see everything on your front page, with no obvious indication of whether it's in the wrong place.

[–]dstew74 1 point2 points ago

I'm not subscribed to /r/space for whatever reason. Probably because I tend to unsubscribe from large subreddits to filter out all the noise. It is interesting to see stuff like this start to arrive.

I find it appropriate as it echo's my frustrations with trying to build shit with stock parts. Eventually I got to Mun but haven't figured out how to come back yet.

That Saturn rocket looks really stubby...
