Rules

  1. No screenshots, or pictures with added or superimposed text. This includes image macros, comics, info-graphics and most diagrams. Text (e.g. a URL) serving to credit the original author is exempt.

  2. No gore or porn. NSFW content must be tagged.

  3. No personal information. This includes anything hosted on Facebook's servers, as they can be traced to the original account holder. Stalking & harassment will not be tolerated.

  4. No solicitation of votes (including "cake day" posts), posts with their sole purpose being to communicate with another redditor, or [FIXED] posts. DAE posts go in /r/DoesAnybodyElse. "Fixed" posts should be added as a comment to the original image.

  5. Submissions must link directly to a specific image file or to an image hosting website with minimal ads. We do not allow blog hosting of images ("blogspam"), but links to albums on image hosting websites are okay. URL shorteners are prohibited.

  • If your submission appears to be filtered but definitely meets the above rules, please send us a message with a link to the comments section of your post (not a direct link to the image). Don't delete it as that just makes the filter hate you!

  • If you come across any rule violations, please report the submission or message the mods and one of us will remove it!

Please also try to come up with original post titles. Submissions that use certain clichés/memes will be automatically tagged with a warning.

dont feed the re-posters!!!

[–]xtfr 0 points1 point ago

Who knows how many times I've seen this picture, but this is honestly the first time I've noticed the boobs. So thanks for the repost.

[–]SpaceOdysseus 20 points21 points ago

Op right before posting this picture:

This picture is so cool, I bet nobody's ever seen this incredibly famous photograph. I realize this is one of the most famous photographs ever taken and a staple in the surrealist movement but I should still post this on reddit, just in case.

[–]elbruce 15 points16 points ago

Op right before posting this picture:

Hey, I haven't seen that famous photo of Dali around the Internet lately, I'll put it up so more people get to check it out. Maybe it's been a while since they saw it too, or maybe some people haven't seen it yet and this'll give 'em a chance to.

[–]getinthevan 2 points3 points ago

Op right before posting this picture:

I could use some karma right about now.

edit: added use

[–]elbruce 0 points1 point ago

Wait - you don't mean - people are actually contributing posts that are likely to be popular so they can get karma? Fuck, who do we tell about this?

Tell you what, you wait right here, I'll run and go get somebody who gives a shit!

[–]L4NGOS -1 points0 points ago

I love Dali's art but I've never seen this foto before so mock OP all you want but this pic made at least one persons day. In my universe this is not one of the most famous fotos ever, not even in the top five. This hold the top spot IMO, 3.bp.blogspot.com/-mTGlmubW2QM/TkbDNZQGhBI/AAAAAAAABnw/96YD3uCQ4iw/s1600/vietnam-war-photo%255B1%255D.jpg

Ont: if I ever get filthy rich I'm getting a bronze space elephant sculpture!

[–]SpaceOdysseus 4 points5 points ago

If you love Dali's work and haven't seen this, you have seen two paintings.

[–]fizzl 6 points7 points ago

I've never seen it either.

Thanks OP. THOOPEE.

[–]L4NGOS 0 points1 point ago

I've seen quiet a few of his paintings and sculptures, been to the Dali museum in Montmartre twice and seen one of the traveling exhibitions in Paris but this is a photograph we're talking about. Never did see it before.

[–]Squik101 -3 points-2 points ago

I like how you spell "photograph" and even "Montmartre" correctly here, but 20 minutes prior you used "fotos" twice.

[–]jacoby308 2 points3 points ago

irrelevant.

[–]L4NGOS 0 points1 point ago

Some times I use spellcheck.

[–]getinthevan 4 points5 points ago

I love Dali's art but I've never seen this foto before

this photograph is by Philippe Halsman in collaboration with Dali

[–]chewp911 1 point2 points ago

Ding ding ding. Halsman's jump photos are super cool.

I like this quote from him: "When you ask a person to jump, his attention is mostly directed toward the act of jumping and the mask falls so that the real person appears."

[–]L4NGOS 0 points1 point ago

Thanks for, you know, not being dick.

[–]deliciousONE 0 points1 point ago

i saw a painting of melting clocks one time, dali is one of my favorite artists.

What's the point of this?

I for one am glad they posted this picture again, I've never seen it before.

[–]kwatch 4 points5 points ago

its a bot, bots don't question the content, this one just looks for other posts with the same image.

[–]Corpsman223 0 points1 point ago

Honestly, you should put down the internet and get some more exposure to the world if you have never seen this photograph.

[–]SpaceOdysseus -3 points-2 points ago

If you haven't seen it before this, you would have seen it tomorrow, and the next day, and the next day.

[–]KlaudioKil 1 point2 points ago

What makes you say that? The post that says the last time this was posted was 4 months ago?

Oh wait.

[–]SpaceOdysseus 1 point2 points ago

This is probably one of the most famous photographs ever, if you don't include photographs that are only famous for historical significance, this is THE most famous photo ever taken.

[–]redcube85 2 points3 points ago

Says who? I could think of a few others that could considered equally or more famous.

[–]SpaceOdysseus 1 point2 points ago

Says me, shut up!

...Anyway, I'm up for suggestions. And before you say the afghan girl, That picture is mostly famous for its historical significance. It doesn't count.

[–]redcube85 1 point2 points ago

"Abby Road" and "Lunch Atop A Skyscraper" to name a couple.

[–]SpaceOdysseus 1 point2 points ago

I'll give you Abby Road, though it is famous because of the album, not because of its own merits, but Lunch Atop a Skyscraper fits squarely into the historical significance domain.

I'll change my criteria, It is the most famous photo on its own merits.

[–]Miss_anthropyy 2 points3 points ago

Jump Book! I've been trying to find a copy for ages, but they're insanely expensive, and no library near me has one. :(

Edit: some of the pictures

[–]Proper_Credit 2 points3 points ago

It took 28 takes to get it right and although Dali conceived the photo, the actual photography was done by the famous Philippe Halsmann.

[–]JSpike -2 points-1 points ago

This should have more upvotes

[–]TheGreatFuzz 0 points1 point ago

This is like putting an image of the Mona Lisa and titling it "Leonardo da Vinci"
So what Im really trying to say is.. what is this?

[–]benjamem 4 points5 points ago

Actually, this is a photo titled "dali atomicus" by Philippe Halsman, who was a photographer that Dali worked with. This isn't the final version because you can still see the wires that are holding up some of the floating objects which were later edited out.

[–]TheGreatFuzz 1 point2 points ago

Ah.. Well I feel rather schooled right now. Thank you. :)

[–]Miss_anthropyy 1 point2 points ago

It's actually in his Jump Book. He took a bunch of pictures of famous people jumping. They're very telling of everyone's personalities. Article, some of the pictures

[–]KillaRilla 1 point2 points ago

A beautifully fragmented mind.

[–]kingkobro 1 point2 points ago

While some of the props are are wired, Dali, the cats and the water were all thrown simultaneously as the picture was taken. Art history GCSE finally comes in handy!

[–]AmberHeartsDisney 1 point2 points ago

This has boobs, you should mark it NSFW.

[–]klick37 1 point2 points ago

Cats, boobs and crazy artists. This has everything Reddit wants.

[–]gdeadfan 0 points1 point ago

Teh boobs. I've found them.

[–]rogerhausman 0 points1 point ago

It has been a long time since I have seen this and I stared at it again for a while. Thanks. Fuck the assholes that hate so much on amazing photographs being re-posted. Over-stimulated self-righteous pretentious derps

[–]mrpopenfresh 0 points1 point ago

So how did he make those effects?

[–]The_Dude_87 0 points1 point ago

for a school project i simulated the water and it took me over 20 shots to get it right and probably 100 gallons of water.

LOVE THIS PICTURE!

[–]imaspy 0 points1 point ago

reminds me of reddit.

[–]Freesoundjo 0 points1 point ago

[–]thegreatgazoo 0 points1 point ago

NSFW

There. That should get some more hits...

[–]razzo -3 points-2 points ago

This is shopped. You can see the wires.

[–]d33pdivine 1 point2 points ago

Poor meows

[–]cozmosmashzu -2 points-1 points ago

I didn't know he was a water bender!

Dali. From the 1940s_09633u.jpg)

.

[–]dont_press_ctrl-W 2 points3 points ago

Correct link: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/File:Salvador_Dali_A_(Dali_Atomicus)_09633u.jpg

You tried to post this:

[Dali. From the 1940s](http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/File:Salvador_Dali_A_(Dali_Atomicus)_09633u.jpg)

But when you do that the closing parenthesis after "atomicus" gets interpreted as the end of the link and you get

Dali. From the 1940s_09633u.jpg)

What you want is to put the escape character \ before the parenthesis in question so it doesn't get interpreted like that

[Dali. From the 1940s](http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/File:Salvador_Dali_A_(Dali_Atomicus\)_09633u.jpg)

which gives:

Dali. From the 1940s
