Isn't this just Far Cry?

[–]frezik 4 points5 points ago

I was actually going to say Riven, the second Myst game.

[–]TheRealmsOfGold 0 points1 point ago

I was going to say the beach on the final planet in KotOR.

[–]thejohnstocktons 91 points92 points ago

The hdr is strong with this one.

[–]viborg 60 points61 points ago

Ah, the lovely Saturation Islands.

[–]JARsofMAyo 43 points44 points ago

Welcome to Contrast Cove.

[–]wisenheimer 30 points31 points ago

ISO what you did there.

[–]goldandguns 9 points10 points ago

do people not like HDR now? I feel like I've seen a lot of comments like this one in quite a few subs

[–]SoCalDan 17 points18 points ago

everyone has their own tastes. lot of photographers don't like it but the general population tends to eat it up, just like high contrast and oversaturation.

But do what you enjoy and and enjoy what you want.

[–]BCMM 6 points7 points ago

Complaints about HDR are now a meme people repeat to demonstrate how discerning they are. It's starting to happen on every heavily saturated image even when it's obviously a single exposure that's just had the saturation increased.

[–]FreakAndGeek 5 points6 points ago

As someone who isn't really into photography, why does it matter? Is it a misrepresentation of the subject? If it's more aesthetically pleasing to some, what's wrong with it?

[–]ammeeztlots 7 points8 points ago

It's kind of like a woman wearing way too much makeup. A little enhancement brings out natural beauty, but too much overpowers it.

[–]clippernation90 2 points3 points ago

well said

[–]thejohnstocktons 1 point2 points ago

I like it. Its just something you notice right away.

[–]Paultimate79 1 point2 points ago

People are confused.

HDR is like art. In general, people like 'art'. People do not like shitty art. Most HDR shit you see is horribly done. Well done HDR you wont really notice unless you compare it to its non-hdr version.

HDR isnt some bullshit photoshop effect you can force an image to do anymore than enlarge an image via digital zoom adds more detail. Actual information is required to produce true HDR. Remember, HRD stands for high dynamic range. Most cameras can only capture a certain range of light in one image, so youre going to either see detail-less shadows or blow out whites or both (like in this image). In order to capture more information and not blow them both out, you take one image at higher exposure untill enough light from teh shadows is collected for detail, and another just below the lightest point in the image so you dont have all the light parts a pure white. Put them together and you have a high dynamic range image.

[–]dhorrible 0 points1 point ago

It's not that people don't like HDR. IMO there's a right and a wrong way to use it.

This would be a wrong way to use it.

[–]Apochromat 0 points1 point ago

Nope, no HDR. Just a strong contrast curve in the clouds.

[–]Paultimate79 0 points1 point ago

You mean the lack of hdr?

[–]chroncile -3 points-2 points ago

[–]Ubergoober 11 points12 points ago

Meh, Crysis looks more real.

[–]SheehanRaziel 3 points4 points ago

Yeah, the rock textures are pretty bad on this one.

[–]the_cat_kittles 9 points10 points ago

god I am so ahead of the curve on the seychelles, I made a brochure about them in middle school, everyone acknowledge me

[–]Alikese 1 point2 points ago

I chose Djibouti. No one knows why.

[–]FreakAndGeek 1 point2 points ago

You know what the capital of Djibouti is? Djibouti!

[–]bondagegirl 2 points3 points ago

Wait now, wait just a damn minute. Was this a tri-fold brochure? Was it in color or black and white? Did you get your information from encyclopedias or the internet? These are all very important questions.

Related - a few weeks ago the Final Jeopardy question was "Who was Eli Whitney" and I so got it right (none of the contestants did) because of a middle school project. Felt pretty bad-ass.

[–]paddywhack 0 points1 point ago

Did your brochure explain the process of registering an offshore business in the Seychelles??

[–]TurdFurgeson22 0 points1 point ago

I've lived there. May i too be acknowledged?

[–]Distance_Runner 32 points33 points ago

Come on.... That doesn't even look real

[–]Josh2905 28 points29 points ago

I was at that exact same spot a few years ago.I have to say it totally looks like this. It is shoppen but nevertheless fucking beautiful.

Now that I got the direct comparison i have to say it is heavily shopped.

Pic of the same spot from 2003: http://i.imgur.com/qyHWe.jpg

It might be possible to get such a nice shot with a better camera/better weather. Still beautiful.

[–]Screwed_Driver 5 points6 points ago

Same beach but I took this pic from the opposite side, and in 2012 Grand anse beach, La Digue Such a beautiful island. You can bike to all of the sites on the island in a day. I ended up going to this beach and decided not to leave it for the rest of the day.

[–]Josh2905 0 points1 point ago

This was actually the first place we went to. We just followed a small forest path and did not expect such a great view/beach.

[–]CiXeL 4 points5 points ago

the 2003 pic is so much better

[–]TandH 0 points1 point ago

I actually like your picture better. Is it very expensive to go there?

[–]MaybeImNaked 0 points1 point ago

Round trip flight is generally at least $2000 from the US, and hotels are at least $150/night, so it's certainly not a cheap vacation. Flights from Europe are cheaper around $1000 or less.

[–]DJUrsus 17 points18 points ago

She sells sea shells in the Seychelles.

[–]Nimbokwezer 3 points4 points ago

She says she sells seashells from Seychelles' seashores.

[–]yeahhhmuffins 7 points8 points ago

My father's side of the family is from the Seychelles. After he finished his education in England and married my mother, they moved back to Mahe and had my brother and sister. I was born in Canada but visited Seychelles in '04.

Without a doubt, it is the most beautiful place I've ever visited, and worthy of the nickname "Original Garden of Eden". I highly suggest visiting if you can afford the flights.

[–]mat101010 3 points4 points ago

Flights from Germany were really reasonable. 500 Euros r/t. Not bad for a 10 hour flight.

[–]yeahhhmuffins 0 points1 point ago

Flights from North America add up, considering you typically connect through LHR. I am lucky because my family is from there, so I obtained a citizen card that you present at restaurants and shops in order to pay the Seychellois price. Buying a beer at tourist price was 3-4 times more expensive.

[–]TurdFurgeson22 0 points1 point ago

Yeah, i think it was around 3 grand when my family of four went. But i'm not positive, and it was about 6 years ago too.

[–]Sprayo 4 points5 points ago

[–]Sidetracking 1 point2 points ago

Why would someone bother to photoshop this? Beautiful as is.

[–]Bennyboy1337 1 point2 points ago

Ya it's pretty good; the sky is obviously blown out, so I would of applied a gradient filter or just shot a second exposure for the sky, and overlay in PS.

[–]Mr_Snuffleupagus 1 point2 points ago

Because people are boorish, vapid morons who are easily impressed by shiny, colorful baubles.

Thus the constant stream of over saturated, HDR'd-to-shit pictures that make it to the top.

[–]crappuccino 18 points19 points ago

This was likely pretty nice before somebody processed the hell out of it in Photoshop.

[–]vertazontal 6 points7 points ago

Good rule of thumb for determining if there's too much HDR: If the ground is brighter than the sky, there's too much HDR.

[–]the_cat_kittles 6 points7 points ago

what if you are on the sun?!?!?!

[–]vertazontal 8 points9 points ago

I think you'd have bigger problems.

[–]twentygreen 2 points3 points ago

I like to use

"If the sky is less than 25% clouds and it still looks like a storm is going on... there is too much HDR".

[–]thetobester 1 point2 points ago

This one seems to have sucked all the colour out of the shadows too. So much grey in the sea :(

[–]imsweetinreality 7 points8 points ago

thank you Potato_in_my_anus for this lovely photo

[–]JFSOCC 2 points3 points ago

reminds me of the beach you crash on at the end of the first knights of the old republic game.

[–]gobstoppers96 1 point2 points ago

KOTOR was great despite graphics. I loved that last planet, the whole clash between the two subspecies

[–]TheRealmsOfGold 0 points1 point ago

Despite!? Are you kidding!? It was gorgeous. The design was beautiful. It had some of the nicest graphics in a Star Wars game since Dark Forces.

[–]SmartAssUsername 0 points1 point ago

[–]tie3278 0 points1 point ago

those rocks look like cgi

[–]Triplesixer 1 point2 points ago

Seychelles are on top my list of destinations to see before I die, crazy beautiful. Thanx for this , wallpapered.

[–]TurdFurgeson22 0 points1 point ago

Best part is that it isn't TOTALLY loaded with tourist stuff. Which in my opinion makes it the best place I've ever been (along with it's beauty).

[–]knomz 1 point2 points ago

very beautiful view

[–]Irrelevant_muffins 1 point2 points ago

Hi there! just thought I'd let you know, I havn't changed the background on my computer ever since I got it, until now.

[–]peterand 1 point2 points ago

such a beautiful picture, from such a beautiful user name

[–]KWAD2 0 points1 point ago

battlefield nostalgia....

[–]Dbleejd -1 points0 points ago

This is my new desktop background. Thanks!

[–]Goraidh 0 points1 point ago

The Seychelles are beautiful. I've been on that very same beach three different trips. Nice photo.

[–]keypusher -1 points0 points ago

Amazing, thanks.

[–]IknowIhaveaproblem 0 points1 point ago

Just Cause 2.. it calls to me.

[–]Screwed_Driver 0 points1 point ago

When I was deployed there, it didn't seem so Saturated. Still a very beautiful place.

[–]followthesinner 0 points1 point ago

When were you deployed there?

[–]nsalex97 0 points1 point ago

shutup. I smoke and have boobs that are delicious. - gf

[–]thetobester 0 points1 point ago

I'm a just gonna take all the saturation out of the shadows and put it in the mid-tones. Now the image looks like it's from the game Myst.

[–]i_go_to_uri 0 points1 point ago

I can zoom in so far on my phone, its awesome.

[–]theseus1234 0 points1 point ago

Reminds me of the unknown planet from KOTOR.

[–]Norin325 0 points1 point ago

Am I looking at a picture from Crysis?

[–]NathTheMirv 0 points1 point ago

Stop taking screenshots of Crysis!

[–]Erasmus92 0 points1 point ago

Does it really matter if this is massively retouched? Like I don't really care if the girlas long as she's hot that night. I don't really care what this beach looks like in real life but I'd kill to be in that picture, whether it's real or not.

[–]backbeatbozo 0 points1 point ago

For those who want to visit this particular beach; this is Grand Anse, on the island of La Digue. Swimming is not recommended unfortunately due to a viscous undertow. Many tourists have died here!

Source: Family from the area

[–]BrerChicken 1 point2 points ago

Like an undertow of honey, maybe?

[–]backbeatbozo 0 points1 point ago

I'll just go ahead and blame the autocorrect. Yeah.. that.

[–]awaizy 0 points1 point ago

Looks like a screenshot from Crysis.

[–]rolfmachizlin 0 points1 point ago

Ahh, the long awaited Crysis 3. Not too bad, almost looks too real.

[–]chickenman1998 0 points1 point ago

Your username kind of interrupted the beauty.

[–]Harakou 0 points1 point ago

I found this on /r/all and for some reason thought it was on /r/Offensive_Wallpapers. I spent way too much time looking for the hidden text.

[–]Sidetracking -1 points0 points ago

This looks like a vidya game

[–]OatmealPants 0 points1 point ago

I upvoted for the username

[–]me77 0 points1 point ago

that rock on the left looks cranky considering he's in such a beautiful spot.

[–]mrspacepanda -1 points0 points ago

Hey, ummm... This is going to be awkward but, uh... you have a potato in you anus.

[–]Purplemustachedonkey 0 points1 point ago

I remember you name from Philly D

[–]einhornsacul 0 points1 point ago

this looks quite like the beach on besaid island from FFX Besaid Island

[–]RossRau5 -2 points-1 points ago

[–]BenNCM 0 points1 point ago

That's horrible. Cold impending clouds of doom. No way would I relax or sunbathe on that beach in its current form.

[–]Necca 0 points1 point ago

Funny fact: exact this picture is saved on the iPad when you buy it
