I wonder what those corner offices are like on the inside?

[–]Procrastinationist 249 points250 points ago

You're hired, Johnson. Welcome aboard. We've even got a corner office waiting for you. Yes, it's right over there. No, you won't have much use for a desk. It's pretty much standing room only. Also, you'll probably want to start bringing sunscreen to work.

[–]SergeantKoopa 93 points94 points ago

I read this in Cave Johnson's voice.

[–]Armadylspark 22 points23 points ago

You're not the only one...

Here, you can have this lemonade. I won't be needing it anymore.

[–]DivideByHero 36 points37 points ago

When I see these buildings all I can think about is that wasted space. That whole 40 sq ft or so multiplied by the number of floors. The only reason for this is they were limited by the adjacent buildings.

edit: X3 (three corners)

[–]ParticleSpinClass 21 points22 points ago

And streets.

[–]DivideByHero 1 point2 points ago

Yes. After some thought I suppose you could have three atriums to the ceiling adding to curb appeal, but at what cost?

I'm no architechnician, but wouldn't it have been more efficient (less costly) to find a square lot nearby?

[–]Xenks 11 points12 points ago

Depends where. In an area like downtown Chicago, you want to be in certain spots for the prestige of the area. A "square lot nearby" would, simply because every square lot nearby is filled already, take you outside of the area. However this triangle lot nobody wants because it's a goddamn triangle is relatively cheap and where you want it. Thus, that's what you build. Why you build a triangle building instead of a rectangular one, presumably, is looks.

[–]DivideByHero 6 points7 points ago

Well, that would explain it.

It's not an ugly building that's for sure. But if I were the king of the universe I would erase the notch. When I see these kind of accents I always imagine a pitch meeting where somebody said "Meh, it's okay, but don't you think it's kind of plain?" Then somebody else said "What if we put a hole in it on the side right here?" Then somebody else said "Oh yeah, that fixes it, now everyone will think it's truly unique."

[–]nawitus 14 points15 points ago

You could put a triangular lift there.

[–]DivideByHero 8 points9 points ago

Something tells me you and I would make some shitty architects. I looked up on EMPORIS and discovered it's not an even sided triangle.

edit: I'm not even sure it's a triangle at all.

[–]BullshitUsername 4 points5 points ago

Yes.

[–]SonOfAGrayHairedMan 200 points201 points ago

Holy crap.

[–]IcePhyre 303 points304 points ago

Is it a triangular shaped building? That's the only way it makes sense to me

[–]serious_mullet 256 points257 points ago

yes.

[–]hey_hey_you 176 points177 points ago

Do you love me?

[–]LenMahl 3 points4 points ago

[–]Fyzzle 112 points113 points ago

Stupid architects forgot to add a 3rd dimension.

[–]Dabrenn 94 points95 points ago

Alan, please add Z-axis

[–]vilhelm_s 36 points37 points ago

"Dammit, I forgot to press Extrude!"

[–]slaya771 13 points14 points ago

[–]MrGrumpet 22 points23 points ago

[–]FarrelNZ 10 points11 points ago

You have any idea how expensive it is to add a third dimension? In this economy?

[–]uneekfreek 6 points7 points ago

Why? Cuz fuck the z axis. That's why

[–]C_IsForCookie 13 points14 points ago

The building probably just comes to a point on one side, like a triangle. At the correct angle, you can't see the other side.

[–]Jingr 9 points10 points ago

Yes. Its in Chicago.

[–]iheartbakon 4 points5 points ago

[–]AdmiralSkippy 5 points6 points ago

The building is triangular instead of square. So when you look right at the corner you can't see the other wall.

[–]humpydumpty 7 points8 points ago

Not triangular. Trapezoid.

[–]Forhavu 5 points6 points ago

Still, the corner is an acute angle.

[–]Lemon_Tile 2 points3 points ago

Yeah, the corner is just smaller than 90 degrees. I guess it's kind of an optical illusion

[–]wtfisdisreal 2 points3 points ago

I too can not figure out if this is real.

[–]Battletooth[!] 372 points373 points ago

This image confuses me and makes me uncomfortable and I do not like it. Upvote.

[–]amado7786 167 points168 points ago

People like you are the reason why /r/wtf still exist

[–]Battletooth[!] 103 points104 points ago

Funny thing, I unsubbed from there the day I saw a pizza with hit dogs in crust upvoted to the front page.

It is nothing but silly stuff like, "OMG! This rock looks like a penis! XD" type posts. I know it occasionally gets back to its roots, but it never lasts more than a week.

While we're on the subject, here's a pic on my phone for you. It's not safe for work. At all. I mean it. Dicks and titties everywhere. Kinda WTF picthis picture relaxes me. I enjoy it.

[–]SecondSophistic 74 points75 points ago

This picture bothers me because the penis roots are too far up...

[–]lethargicwalrus 38 points39 points ago

is that really the only reason it bothers you? ಠ_ಠ

[–]SecondSophistic 75 points76 points ago

No.

There's another penis to the far left that doesn't look like it's even attached to anything.

[–]maqikelefant 6 points7 points ago

What's the matter, never seen a backdick before?

[–]lethargicwalrus 26 points27 points ago

Clearly protruding out of his/her/its wrist.

Edit: WHY DO I KEEP LOOKING AT THIS

[–]Hopulus 23 points24 points ago

Jesus Christ, Pizza with HIT DOGS ? Pretty WTF to me

[–]shit_master 10 points11 points ago

They're like hit men, except they're dogs!

[–]meatlong_football 3 points4 points ago

I think it meant dogs that were hit by a car

[–]redderper 10 points11 points ago

Or the ''my friend broke his toe, here's a picture of him in the hospital with his bone sticking out'' posts.

[–]NoFeetSmell 18 points19 points ago

Jesus Christ, that lady almost has as many dicks as George Washington.

[–]xSPYXEx 26 points27 points ago

I heard that motherfucker has like, thirty god damn dicks.

[–]SergeantKoopa 11 points12 points ago

I'm on the verge of unsubbing because of too many fucking gore and death pictures keep getting posted and upvoted on. That's not WTF. That stuff has its own subreddits and I feel should stay there. WTF is for pics like the one you just posted. Things that actually made me go, "WTF!?" as opposed to just putting my lunch down and walking away.

[–]FictionalGeorge 144 points145 points ago

Can we really ask it anything?

[–]bobfnord 22 points23 points ago

Only if you want the hole truth.

[–]loldudester 55 points56 points ago

Think triangles.

[–]Battletooth[!] 24 points25 points ago

Something something now you're thinking with portals.

[–]KuchiKoo 54 points55 points ago

i came across a very similar looking building in tokyo once. heres a couple of pictures with dif angle http://imgur.com/a/foPPH

[–]scandal2ny 10 points11 points ago

That's awesome! Love weird architecture like this.

[–]who_what_where 18 points19 points ago

This is it in google streetview.

*edit and here is the view that matches OP's.

[–]LITERALLYbornhuetter 38 points39 points ago

It's on the near North side of Chicago

[–]peen_was[S] 16 points17 points ago

That's right.

[–]bowhunter6274 4 points5 points ago

Yes. I have seen this picture before. I can't remember the name of it.

[–]Almost-faceless-guy 7 points8 points ago

I dont think so, look the buildings around on the OP's photo.

[–]IronWaffled 22 points23 points ago

Looks like you need to upgrade your graphics card.

[–]FormerlyDagnyTaggart 10 points11 points ago

Reminds me of this hotel in Niagara Falls.

For all of you whose minds are blown, here it is from the side. I imagine the building OP posted has a similar setup.

[–]DJffeJ 15 points16 points ago

Well that is much too interesting.

[–]deadwisdom 7 points8 points ago

I used to work in the building behind it. It's original design was to have a mirrored building next to it, but they gave up on that and built a boring residential tower there instead. Is that less interesting enough?

[–]DrMuffinPHD 13 points14 points ago

Looks like the contractor got lazy and forgot to build the third dimension.

[–]detecting_nuttiness 15 points16 points ago

[–]ERich2010 5 points6 points ago

i believe this is in Chicago. the building is a triangle, so it looks super thin in this photo.

[–]Arcane_Explosion 5 points6 points ago

This building is in downtown Chicago, it's the headquarters of the American Medical Association. Pretty awesome building.

http://www.ama-assn.org/ama/pub/about-ama/careers-ama/ama-office-locations.page

[–]nowandlater 3 points4 points ago

I live in Chicago. Someone has an office that opens up onto that hole near the top. Must be nice up there.

[–]peen_was[S] 11 points12 points ago

Saw this building in downtown Chicago while visiting earlier this year. Not sure what building it is. Pretty sure it's just on the north side of the river downtown.

I assure you it's real.

[–]cynognathus 13 points14 points ago

[–]MicrowavedButthole 24 points25 points ago

Thanks for doing this AMA, building. I'm a great fan of you. How do you feel hosting several people inside you?

[–]Bill_Clintons_Choad 3 points4 points ago

That's exactly what I thought when read it. Reddit has ruined me.

[–]cdwmeg 4 points5 points ago

This is far, FAR too interesting. This sub needs a re-vamp.

[–]Bilderweast 21 points22 points ago

I think you need to look up the definition of 'Fixed'. What you did was post an image showing a similar effect and then copied the title from an earlier post.

[–]dadiddler 15 points16 points ago

I didn't see the earlier, but as convincing as this is I wouldn't be surprised to learn [FIXED] referenced a more clear and dramatic example of the effect.

[–]cteno4 2 points3 points ago

It's a joke, you pedantic twit. The majority of FIXED posts are like this.

[–]blackpixel 2 points3 points ago

Can I get another angle?

[–]apolotary 2 points3 points ago

I think upper side of this building would surely fit /r/Glitch_in_the_Matrix/

[–]MountainLionKingKong 4 points5 points ago

Are we really going to start doing [FIXED] posts in this subreddit?

[–]siqniz 3 points4 points ago

Can you ELI5 this for me

[–]qnnplmr 36 points37 points ago

[–]siqniz 0 points1 point ago

Well played Mr. Scientist

[–]shazper 7 points8 points ago

What is that? A building for ants?

[–]ocealot 7 points8 points ago

Flatliners only.

[–]kimboslyce 3 points4 points ago

Agreed with hornyhornyhippos_69 — any reference to Zoolander gets an A+ in my book.

[–]hornyhornyhippos_69 6 points7 points ago

Ignore the downvotes. I lolled. And that's what matters.

[–]pinkflyd25 2 points3 points ago

[–]Interrnet 0 points1 point ago

Is this near Columbus Circle?

[–]Fookes 0 points1 point ago

Awesome.

[–]happyhappyjoejoe 0 points1 point ago

I think I saw a building like this in Driver 2.

[–]AdvocateForLucifer 0 points1 point ago

render environment - error

[–]Pilchardo 1 point2 points ago

I like to think it's a decoy, cardboard anti-terrorist building.

[–]carouselderby 0 points1 point ago

Okay, I think I've got it. The building is triangular, so at this angle, we see one side of it, and the other two sides connect behind it. As a result, it looks flat because we only see one side. (... op please confirm this sorcery)

[–]jackspayed 0 points1 point ago

There's an apartment building like this in Arlington / Falls Church. Every time I'm going to the grocery store it's screws with my eyes. If your in the area it can best be seen heading west bound on 7 near skyline / xroads

[–]i_am_andy 0 points1 point ago

Warning: Incoming game.

[–]brandonchicago 0 points1 point ago

It's the American Medical Association building in Chicago. Here's some info

[–]grapthor 0 points1 point ago

Oh hey, a two dimensional building. Either that or a major render error. Would now be a good time to suggest we switch to ray tracing?

[–]Stephenfold 0 points1 point ago

Ok, I really don't get how this looks so thin. Anyone care to explain the cause of this illusion?

Edit: Ah, nevermind, I get it.

[–]youdidntreddit 0 points1 point ago

There is one of these in Portland that looks flat whenever I leave the Golden Horse Chinese Restaurant.

[–]ttblue 0 points1 point ago

That just looks like a waste of a whole lot of space at the edge of the building.

[–]MicrowavedButthole 0 points1 point ago

Looks like from Midtown Madness 2.

[–]Geo714 0 points1 point ago

I live in Chicago burbs. This building is a triangle.

[–]DizzyMau5 1 point2 points ago

Give it a second, the map is just loading.

[–]HITMAN616 1 point2 points ago

There's a building similar to that in downtown San Antonio, along the riverwalk. It's the highlight of the boat tour. ...yes, highlight.

[–]ANAL_PLUNDERING 1 point2 points ago

Reminds me of the river boat ride in San Antonio.

[–]Tuneuponipod 1 point2 points ago

Is this in Vancouver, Canada? I remember seeing something like this in an article somewhere.

[–]Lemon_Tile 0 points1 point ago
