Glad you enjoyed it. Now go home and tell everyone that it rained the entire time and everyone you encountered were rude. Failure to do so will mean termination of future visitation rights. The first rule of Seattle Club is YOU DON'T TALK ABOUT SEATTLE!

[–]TashreTacoma 8 points9 points ago

Wait, one of the stereotypes I've heard about the Pacific Northwest is that people are really nice.

[–]mattfromseattleInternational District 25 points26 points ago

We're not. Go home.

[–]doordingboner 3 points4 points ago

Yeah! You asshole! Find your own city!!

[–]diggumGeorgetown 7 points8 points ago

Look up the Seattle Freeze. We are snobbish jerks and don't need outsiders soaking up our stink. Robblerobblerobble.

[–]letdogsvote 61 points62 points ago

Don't be silly. It's raining. Pouring rain even as we speak. Very grey and miserable.

Rainy.

Yep.

[–]finmoore3Redmond 13 points14 points ago

Of course, because it's Seattle. It's never sunny here. Not to mention the Starbucks we're drinking in our flannel shirts while rocking out to grunge music and coding on our computers.

[–]JustIgnoreMe 2 points3 points ago

Were you watching me earlier today? Because that was exactly what I was doing...

[–]WhyCallMeStupid 2 points3 points ago

To be fair it does rain here most of the time; and I love these tourists who come to Seattle on a beautiful day like yesterday, and think this is the best city in the world in every way possible (it comes close), then they move here, find out its gray most of the time, get depressed, kill themselves, and drive our suocide rates up....I really love that....

[–]TashreTacoma 1 point2 points ago

They just issued a Blue Flag warning for flash flooding.

[–]Cosman246 -2 points-1 points ago

"Miserable"?

[–]L_ABoundanddown 28 points29 points ago

I say this every chance I get, but here goes; I moved to Los Angeles (for my fiancè) in March and, besides having a companion, it was the biggest mistake ever.

Seattle is the best city in the world. I have been to 13 countries, lived on 2 continents (3 countries) but never been anywhere like Seattle.

You came at a great time. I am here as we speak.

[–]caseyjay 9 points10 points ago

Shhhhhh....... ;)

[–]natealcatraz 3 points4 points ago

How do you like driving in LA?

Muahahahahahahahahahahahaaaaa >:D

[–]L_ABoundanddown 3 points4 points ago

I actually don't have a car. Sometimes we zipcar but I hate it, even then.

[–]doordingboner 2 points3 points ago

That's fancy. How much do zip cars go for?

[–]L_ABoundanddown 2 points3 points ago

Cars are based on make and reservation. For example: I last reserved a Focus for 3 hours to pick my partner up from the hospital and the final cost was $21.34. That includes gas, insurance and 180 miles.

[–]doordingboner 0 points1 point ago

Wow, that's pretty good! Better than a taxi I say.

[–]andersonimes 1 point2 points ago

There is a yearly fee as well of around $50.

[–]doordingboner 0 points1 point ago

That's not bad considering you don't have to fill up the gas or anything right?

[–]andersonimes 0 points1 point ago

Not bad. For me it's sort of a barrier to entry because the first ride will be ~$80, but its reasonable.

[–]manofscience42 0 points1 point ago

At least in LA you don't have to worry as much about being punched or shot by the police for no reason.

[–]Vectorbug 10 points11 points ago

The ferry to Bainbridge is a nice and relaxing trip too. I always like to show visitors Interlaken Drive as well since its like a little forest in the city.

[–]Johnmcguirk[S] 4 points5 points ago

Thanks a lot! I really appreciate the advice. This is our first full day in the city, but we have another 6 days here and are trying to figure out what all we want to do. I'll add those 2 things to the list.

[–]dynandash 8 points9 points ago

I recommend lunch in the Madison park neighborhood, and be sure to go through the arboretum - its gorgeous!

[–]matt2500Bainbridge Island 4 points5 points ago

I second the ferry ride to Bainbridge. It's a beautiful trip on a sunny day, and you are within walking distance of a whole number of nice little cafes and restaurants. It's a perfect afternoon trip. Ride over, have lunch, ride back and get that iconic view of the city from the water.

[–]SporkeUniversity District 3 points4 points ago

The next few days are supposed to be beautiful. Honestly, buy a ticket to Bainbridge, walk on. Get off the ferry in Bainbridge, get some lunch or ice cream or whatever, then walk back on (it's free on the way to Seattle). It's the most beautiful commute ever.

[–]TashreTacoma 6 points7 points ago

If you haven't already, don't waste money going up the space needle. Its expensive and not even that spectacular of a view. The needle is more of an externally appreciated structure.

[–]Johnmcguirk[S] 2 points3 points ago

Dang, we got the city pass, so it's already paid for.

[–]TashreTacoma 7 points8 points ago

Well, in that case, go ahead. I guess it's something nice to be able you said you did, amd you'll get your money's worth from the pass. Plus, the other places the pass gets you into are well worth it.

A big aviation buff myself, the fight museum is pretty cool. The Pacific Science Center usually has neat exhibits, plus they have an IMAX theater (which the pass probably doesn't cover). Also, the EMP is something you can't not visit when you come to Seattle.

[–]TychoteslaBroadway 3 points4 points ago

Remember, the first rule of fight museum is not to talk loudly about fight museum while on the premises of fight museum.

You might disturb other people at fight museum.

Save it for when you go outdoors, or when in the fight museum cafeteria.

[–]hinzac 1 point2 points ago

The Columbia Tower observation deck, however, is totally worth the price!! Check it out if you can. You get a view of the entire region and look down on the tiny space needle below.

[–]crazy-ex 2 points3 points ago

Thirding the trip to Bainbridge! Don't forget to get the best ice cream ever at Mora's Creamery :)

[–]KeepRightExcept2Pass 3 points4 points ago

The best ice cream ever, in my opinion, is at Husky Deli in West Seattle.

[–]atrich 0 points1 point ago

On such a lovely day, grab a sheet or some towels, drive out to the Ballard locks and watch boats come and go for a few minutes. Then as you drive out of the parking lot, turn left and head up the road. Watch on the right hand side for a little pink shack. That's Paseos. Second best sandwiches in the city. Get some sandwiches and chips to go. Continue up the drive and you'll hit golden gardens. Picnic with your sandwiches on the beach (or use picnic tables).

Edit: might be best on a weekday to avoid the crowds. Check to make sure Paseos is open. Go early or they might run out of bread.

[–]LaCanner 8 points9 points ago

And that picture is only going to improve once they take down that pesky Alaskan Way Viaduct.

[–]benjam3n -3 points-2 points ago

SAVE THE VIADUCT! LOLOL

[–]bonnieprincebilly 2 points3 points ago

Fuck you. Save that shit.

[–]wessydeGenesee 5 points6 points ago

Still getting used to the wheel in the skyline.

[–]King_Sex 2 points3 points ago

You picked an amazing time to visit, we have a beautiful week ahead of us!

[–]Johnmcguirk[S] 4 points5 points ago

Yea, it looks to be sunny the entire week we are here. I feel like I might be missing out on part of the Seattle experience by not enduring some rain, though.

[–]jeexbitLicton Springs 12 points13 points ago

Come back in a month or two, or six :)

[–]nota999Redmond 10 points11 points ago

Or pretty much any time that isn't right now

[–]roflocalypselolDowntown 0 points1 point ago

You have no idea how lucky you got, for October.

November through January are the wettest months. July through September are the driest. It's definitely worth seeing the city with clear skies, as atmospheric as it is when misty and wet.

[–]alxq 2 points3 points ago

whoa ferris wheel... that's new.

[–]sloppybro 1 point2 points ago

Huh, I was up there in June and got my picture taken near that bench, with my back to the skyline.

[–]benjam3n 0 points1 point ago

thanks. i rather enjoy it too.

[–]my_lucid_nightmareThrasher's Corner 0 points1 point ago

We have a lot that doesnt suck. Of course saying that does. Move to portland they love newcomers

[–]NewDeveloper 0 points1 point ago

Thanks! :) Upvote to you sir' for an awesome picture (that I may set as my background).

It's indeed a great and beautiful city to visit, but moreso to live in. Hope you enjoyed your stay!

[–]hermi0ne 0 points1 point ago

I used to work at that ferris wheel. We made $1 million every 10 days...

[–]chronomex 3 points4 points ago

Seriously? That freaking thing is like a month old! (Why aren't you there still?)

[–]hermi0ne 1 point2 points ago

Had to go back to college in California haha

[–]fact0 0 points1 point ago

I know that exact spot, passed out on a bench there on a work break once lol. our new Ferris wheel sure is spiffy

[–]Cosman246 1 point2 points ago

We haven't been getting much rain recently; it's been troubling me. Also, it's too damn warm for October.

[–]Cosman246 0 points1 point ago

I'm sorry, but my favorite season happens to be winter. "Enjoy the sun while we have it" doesn't really work when you don't bleeping like burning up. There are many reasons I like living here, and the rain is one of them.

[–]manofscience42 0 points1 point ago

I like rain too. My Hawaii house is in Waimea on the Big Island and is right on the border between the dry side and the wet side of the island which you can clearly see in the picture which illustrates the point perfectly. If I drive South West toward Kona I am in almost perpetual sunshine and 80 degree weather and only 11 inches of rain a year. If I drive East toward Hilo I am on the wet side of the island where the average annual rainfall is over 200 inches wich more than THREE TIMES as much as Seattle's annual average rainfall which is a paltry 65 inches in comparison. So if you like rain and you don't like burning up then you will LOVE Hilo. And before you say anything about snow, mountains, and chilly morning sunrises shared with hot cocoa, mittens, and Eskimo kisses remember that Mauna Kea is almost exactly as tall as Mt Rainier AND we can ski and snowboard right from the parking lot at the TOP of the mountain which also happens to be the very best place in the world for star gazing. All of this is less than two hours drive from my house and only one five hour flight away from Seattle. Keep in mind that this ALL on the Big Island of Hawaii which is just one of the eight main islands of the state of Hawaii.

[–]hybridtoasterBroadway 0 points1 point ago

Do you have this lengthy comment saved in a text file or something? Thanks, Hawaii tourism board.

[–]manofscience42 0 points1 point ago

Nope, always on the fly. I am just trying to share the secret to my sanity with my fellow Washingtonians. Growing up in Seattle almost destroyed me and I nearly did not make out. Travel saved my life. I am passionate and I want to share. If a million people hate it but it helps one person then it was worth it to me.

[–]mistyriver 0 points1 point ago

It'll be even prettier when that viaduct along the waterfront is gone.

[–]manofscience42 0 points1 point ago

You should check out Kerry Park. It is where the title picture for this subreddit was taken and is the best view of the city IMHO.

[–]sneaky_sims 0 points1 point ago

It really is - I have friends that I grew up here with, that moved to Hawaii, Los Angeles, New York etc... and every one of them tells me on a daily basis how they wish they were still here and plan on coming back here to settle down permanently.

[–]OldRelic 0 points1 point ago

Glad you enjoyed our city. Like all cities, it has its problems but what city doesn't? It's growing from a smaller city to a bit larger. So there are growing pains.

Come back again. We'll surprise you with more changes.

It's privately owned and on a privately owned dock, so we don't have any say in the matter. Free enterprise, property rights and all that.
