[–]MSnap 272 points273 points ago

I have no idea why this scares me so much...

[–]ShiftyBizniss 54 points55 points ago

Me too! These pics make me feel ill for some reason. They're so fuckin creepy. Especially the front angle ones.

[–]EnglishRoom 9 points10 points ago

An old dentist of mine had a panoramic x ray of an adult patient's mouth of full teeth, with all sorts of extra teeth still in the lower jaw and maxilla. If I remember correctly, there were something like 8 extra teeth total but at odd angles in the bone. The dentist said that until the patient had seen him, the patient had been unaware of all his extra teeth as none of his other dentists mentioned it to him before.

[–]BearDown1983 25 points26 points ago

That makes me feel ill.

Literally.

I feel like I might actually puke.

[–]NextName 0 points1 point ago

Feeling a little ill right now, and not ill like cool and awesome, ill like coming down with a sickness.

[–]Revanx17 2 points3 points ago

[–]MSnap 5 points6 points ago

Oh, Jesus.

[–]stairbob 89 points90 points ago

For me the worst part is thinking about the poor family whose kid's skull that is.

[–]Alexxandria 16 points17 points ago

I thought the same thing. How morbid.

[–]City_Zoo 9 points10 points ago

We all come out loaded with teeth, it's weird.

[–]KonaCoiler 33 points34 points ago

Because you probably have trypophobia. There's no point me telling you not to google it...

Edit: I've only just now looked at the other comments...should have known.

[–]NyankoLand 24 points25 points ago

NOT LOADING ANY PICS IN THIS THREAD

[–]ferroh 13 points14 points ago

  • Every human has this. Edit: Or maybe not...
  • The term "trypophobia" is bullshit that the internet made up. Edit: well, sort of. See below.

Edit:

http://www.popsci.com/trypophobia

" I contacted roughly 10 psychologists for this story, and of those who got back to me, none had heard of it. "

But actually, it turns out to be very real.

BTW: The images in that popsci article do not bother me. If you really want to be sure you don't have trypophobia, google image search "trypophobia".

[–]Deddan 15 points16 points ago

Every human has this? I quite like seeing these child teeth pictures, they're interesting.

Apart from the fact that a child died early..

[–]ferroh 3 points4 points ago

Well, google image search trypophobia. If those don't bother you, then I stand corrected.

[–]Deddan 8 points9 points ago

Well any odd skin conditions are unpleasant, but bubbles and honeycombs? Plant pods? I like them.

I suppose I don't have this phobia.

[–]sean800 11 points12 points ago

Actually, in my experience, it's a weird feeling between kind of liking it ascetically but also being disgusted at the same time. I think. It's hard to describe.

[–]babeigotastewgoing 0 points1 point ago

thats how I feel. intrigued and disturbed.

[–]AnArmyOfWombats 0 points1 point ago

At first it was unsettling, but there are stranger things... so, meh.

[–]woollymammal 1 point2 points ago

Yeah I don't have a problem with it. Plant pods are neat. And when they're photoshopped onto a person, sure it's weird, but doesn't bother me.

[–]FluffyORdie 1 point2 points ago

I should know by now not to trust Reddit, I should.

[–]idontcareforgob 0 points1 point ago

Thank you. I now have trypophobia.

[–]DaymanMaster0fKarate 0 points1 point ago

He is right. It's just that the person he was replying to was being the average moron and applying a made up "phobia" to a picture on the internet.

[–]bobosuda 0 points1 point ago

Try searching for trypophobia on google images. That's what he means, not necessarily this picture.

[–]Morbidgrass 6 points7 points ago

I don't think you need to have trypophobia to be bothered by someone's infected looking hair plugs.

[–]Slashur999 4 points5 points ago

I agree, dont have trypophobia but this video freaks me out to no end.

Edit: This is indeed a botfly video, forgot to add the warning.

[–]alfred_p 8 points9 points ago

Bot Fly...Do not click!

[–]NyankoLand 1 point2 points ago

I swear every time i went back a page browsing it's like that picture fucking followed me...I saw it at least 7 times this morning.

[–]onlykindagreen 0 points1 point ago

The plant seed thing at the top of the page (and that they love to photoshop onto people's body parts) doesn't bother me because of the holes, it bothers me because of the stuff in the holes. Like, dear god, somebody dig that out!

[–]MSnap 3 points4 points ago

Yeah, that might be it. I've seen pictures of that. I know it's fake, but yuck.

[–]thedastardlyone 0 points1 point ago

You only think that because you have Juvenile gigantomastia.

[–]melatriama 0 points1 point ago

Pretty sure I have Trypophobia thanks to a manga someone uploaded on Reddit. Something about a girl who sprouts holes. It was weird, and traumatizing.

[–]pyalot 0 points1 point ago

It could also be Odontophobia or the more classical fear of things with many teeth (usually not listed as phobia because nobody likes to look down a mouth full of teeth, our ancestors probably did that a lot until one with the instinct to run away from too many teeth learned that he could live to procreate another day)

[–]lisabadcat 3 points4 points ago

Because you go to the same dentist?

[–]waitingtoexpatriate 3 points4 points ago

[–]MSnap 6 points7 points ago

Uhhh... no.

[–]2-long-didnt-reddit 4 points5 points ago

I went there and opened a few pictures. I imagine that's what playing Russian roulette feels like.

[–]ThisistheHoneyBadger 2 points3 points ago

It's been reposted so goddamn much that you should be used to seeing it by now.

[–]robodale 4 points5 points ago

[–]MSnap 1 point2 points ago

Actually, I've never seen any of those movies, and I always thought they looked kinda silly.

Edit: I was actually referring to the creature design when I said they looked silly. Sorry for any confusion!

[–]mrslowloris 19 points20 points ago

Oh man they're so good

[–]heru_ra_ha 6 points7 points ago

I'd simply insist you give them a chance. At least the first two.

[–]Fishare 2 points3 points ago

I will forever stand behind Fincher's debut in Alien 3

[–]Morbidgrass 3 points4 points ago

You probably wouldn't like Giger's art. If I remember he actually modified a human skull for the design.

[–]Shoemaster 2 points3 points ago

That's what I thought, then I watched Aliens, and it was glorious. It still holds up, too. Alien does as well, but they're totally different movies.

[–]DancesWithDaleks 3 points4 points ago

I'd even call them different genres. Alien is a horror movie, Aliens is an action movie.

[–]h989 0 points1 point ago

Are you scared of the fact that it's a repost?

[–]justinsayin 157 points158 points ago

If you would have posted an X-ray instead, you wouldn't have had to kill him.

[–]RutgerB 18 points19 points ago

Don't worry, the child survived the procedure.

[–]Pootytang001 9 points10 points ago

I had to get a skullectomy when I was a kid, it's really not as bad as it seems. You get all the ice cream you can massage down your throat hole.

[–]BantamBasher135 7 points8 points ago

Well, not THIS child, but A child. Somewhere.

[–]brad_harless2010 22 points23 points ago

What an asshole.

[–]spyd3rweb 1 point2 points ago

No wonder why it hurts so much when you punch little kids in the face, its all full of teeth.

[–]AnArmyOfWombats 54 points55 points ago

... This reminds me.

I have a full set of teeth, minus one. I'm missing the "adult tooth" for that sharp tooth behind the upper canine on the left. I just have a baby tooth, tiny roots and all.

Here's where it gets interesting: I also have a twin. We were talking a few years back after visiting a dentist, getting cleaned, xrays, etc.

As it turns out, the bastard stole my tooth. He has an "extra" adult tooth sitting in his upper jaw...

[–]ericmm76 11 points12 points ago

He's a witch!

[–]AnArmyOfWombats 5 points6 points ago

Next time he's in town, I'll weigh him against a duck.

Is being a witch hereditary? I may have to hop on the scale myself...

[–]donkeyrocket 6 points7 points ago

You should take his arm or something and not give it back until he gives you the tooth.

[–]Th3R00ST3R 2 points3 points ago

When he's not expecting it, punch him in the mouth and knock out a tooth! Then say "Now were even!"

[–]imperfcet 68 points69 points ago

So do the tooth compartments get filled in with bone as we grow up?

[–]bigups43 51 points52 points ago

short answer: yes.

[–]koy5 62 points63 points ago

Long answer: no?

[–]BinaryRunt 59 points60 points ago

Medium answer: maybe.

[–]DoctorWorm_ 65 points66 points ago

Quantum answer: a gorilla.

[–]JTDeuce 26 points27 points ago

It all makes sense now.

[–]beager 5 points6 points ago

Score: 2 cuils

[–]lidster 3 points4 points ago

Long answer: YYYYEEEEEEESSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSS

[–]Treats 5 points6 points ago

long answer: yyyeeeeeeeeesssssss.

[–]Arizhel 15 points16 points ago

Yes. It's not just baby teeth either, the same happens if you pull out any of your permanent teeth. When you get your wisdom teeth removed, those big sockets don't just stay open, they get filled in with bone over time. You can see it on dental xrays a few years after they've been removed.

[–]space301 17 points18 points ago

Wow. The human body is fucking awesome.

[–]Arizhel 8 points9 points ago

It'd be more awesome if I didn't have to deal with: 1) fallen arches 2) myopia 3) highly impacted wisdom teeth requiring general anaesthesia and surgery to remove

Other people probably have other gripes, like scoliosis, arthritis, Parkinson's disease, ALS, and other congenital problems.

[–]infinitenothing 8 points9 points ago

Don't get me started on the whole optic nerve in front of the retina thing. More like the human body just barely works somehow.

[–]Geminii27 0 points1 point ago

That's evolution for you. No distinction between "barely works" and "works brilliantly". Works is works is works.

[–]imperfcet 2 points3 points ago

I wonder which species on this planet has the fewest congenital defects / most awesome body.

[–]Arizhel 6 points7 points ago

Probably sharks.

[–]fade_00 1 point2 points ago

I hear ya about fallen arches. Just standing for long periods of time really makes my feet ache, and I have permanent calluses almost 1/4" thick on my big toes.

[–]Queenlvr 0 points1 point ago

Scoliosis is horrible, it never goes away. It's amazing though that doctors have found so many ways to help patients deal with it. hopefully we can find a cure for it soon :)

[–]reddKidney 0 points1 point ago

you just gotta get yourself a big pair of plyers and rip all that garbage out.

[–]mang87 0 points1 point ago

I never really noticed that. I got all four of my wisdom teeth (FUCKING OUCH) out about 2 years ago, and now that I check, the holes have completely sealed up again. Woah, that's cool.

[–]Itssoohmygod 0 points1 point ago

Tooth compartment. Oh dear god. Shudder.

[–]Revanx17 0 points1 point ago

once the tooth is removed by growing in, the hole opens into a small compartment where you keep things like gum and car keys.

[–]RelaxErin 13 points14 points ago

Wow, I thought everyone would think this was awesome but these comments all sound freaked out.

[–]danielbeaver 3 points4 points ago

Yeah, these pictures come up every month and everyone freaks out. It's amusing.

[–]shecantstayaway 10 points11 points ago

Love it! I work in a dental office and I love looking at kids' x-rays, seeing all those teeth just waiting in their little pockets in the jaw. So much happens that we don't see on the surface.

[–]Th3R00ST3R 2 points3 points ago

OK, so what mechanism pushes them up? When the jawbone fills in the void?

[–]FuriousGeorge06 30 points31 points ago

Remember guys, don't think about this every time you see a kid.

[–]dszordan 18 points19 points ago

"Where are you hiding the teeth!"

[–]remote_production 0 points1 point ago

that kid is worth a fortune in today's tooth market!

[–]jessicatron 33 points34 points ago

I find this deeply disgusting.

[–]thegroverest 7 points8 points ago

Was he ok afterwards?

[–]TheFeshy 35 points36 points ago

He's fine. This was from his deciduous head, or "baby head." After it falls off the adult head grows in; we all went through the same thing we just don't remember because those memories were in our deciduous heads.

Note: This is probably why they don't let me chaperon school field trips.

[–]elharry-o 2 points3 points ago

i think i love you.

[–]whitedonkey 1 point2 points ago

He's fine.

[–]Sprocketlord 5 points6 points ago

It freaks me out enough already to know that everyone has one of these behind their face.

[–]M374llic4 36 points37 points ago

Fuck man, this triggers my trypophobia. Its making my head cold and itchy and my skin is crawling, and it makes me twitch.

[–]TempestFunk 18 points19 points ago

Whenever I see a cluster of small holes, I get goosebumps. Then I start to get paranoid; the goosebumps feel like my pores are opening up into tiny holes. Needless to say, this freaks me out more...

[–]ShadowAssassinQueef 4 points5 points ago

your description of goosebumps gives me goosebumps.

[–]C7H5N3O6_ 1 point2 points ago

Same here... :(

[–]heru_ra_ha 9 points10 points ago

I didn't know what trypophobia was, so I just Googled it, and suddenly I think I have it. At least in regard to human biological afflictions/conditions.

[–]trikillr42 7 points8 points ago

Man, I just spent the last 25 minutes looking at pictures of holes in shit, and I gotta admit it's pretty cool. I am definitely trypophobia exempt.

edit: this one is my favorite

[–]thestray 4 points5 points ago

I knew it was a bad idea to click that link.

[–]marvinzupz 2 points3 points ago

is this real? It seems cartoony or something. cool!

[–]rob7030 2 points3 points ago

Shopped. They put a sacred lotus seed pod on his shoulder.

[–]sour-d 1 point2 points ago

Oh man there is a name for it! I cringe at this picture. We used to have a dried lotus plant in our house, couldn't even enter that room.

[–]griffith12 4 points5 points ago

fuckin-a man. i can feel a panic attack coming. When I finally was aware there was a name for this condition I have felt since I was a kid, I did a google image search. instant panic attack.

[–]Eh_Herp_Derp 0 points1 point ago

You wouldn't happen to have started having typophobia from a bot fly photo a couple years back would you? That's the one that started it for me. T__T

[–]M374llic4 5 points6 points ago

It started when I was little, at an aquarium when I saw a frog whos babies come through its back skin.....BAH just thinking about it is making me all cold and thingly, I hate it.

[–]Pewking 2 points3 points ago

I have a very strong urge to poke it, pry at it, and mess with it.

[–]undergroundPOP 0 points1 point ago

Have you guys tried looking at tonsils? Don't look at tonsils.

[–]mtx 1 point2 points ago

I don't even like looking at shower heads.

[–]Naldaen -1 points0 points ago

Hey cheer up, the holes that were in your skull have probably grown shut by now.

:)

[–]M374llic4 0 points1 point ago

Gah, simply thinking about it is driving me nuts.

[–]BantamBasher135 0 points1 point ago

Just think: as you were growing up those fuckers were wriggling through your jawbone, burrowing their way towards your mouth and freedom. No wonder kids are such assholes when they're teething.

[–]edsc86 0 points1 point ago

ohhh man, I can't stop it... my skin is crawling like never begore, shitttttttttt

[–]4p47hy 4 points5 points ago

[–]musicalnotes16 2 points3 points ago

Wasn't this on r/WTF a few months ago? o.o

[–]edsc86 -1 points0 points ago

this should not be in /pics!!!!!!!!

[–]Thundernut 3 points4 points ago

I've lost count how many times I have seen this repost.

[–]iGotChubs4You 3 points4 points ago

Nobody gives a shit.

[–]itdood 11 points12 points ago

Every time I see this pic I have two extreme reactions. Wow, that's neat / crap, a child died.

[–]m3r3d1t4 1 point2 points ago

Yup, same thought process. Real neat though.

[–]GastroPhysics 9 points10 points ago

Children are weird.

[–]_chernozem 0 points1 point ago

[–]SpotlessMiind 2 points3 points ago

Scary as fuck

[–]Niemand262 2 points3 points ago

well.....I don't think I would mind having died 2 minutes ago, to save myself having to see this.

[–]annieloux 2 points3 points ago

Dumb question: if there was still skin on this face, would one be able to feel the teeth sitting in their cavities, or is there usually a layer of bone or something that covers them?

I'm guessing it's the latter, but I must know for sure.

[–]avengedsevenfoldxx 0 points1 point ago

re-post /:

[–]XpwnkingX 2 points3 points ago

why isnt this in /r wtf

[–]NotZeus 2 points3 points ago

This. This sends shivers down my back. It makes my face hurt. It scares me. I can look at gore videos, weird porn videos, most everything. Just this type of stuff hurts me. I have no idea.

[–]kenebriated 2 points3 points ago

For some reason, out of all the twisted shit I've seen on the internet, this is the one that gives me the worst heebie jeebies. Just think of all the kids you see on a day to day basis with those extra teeth rattling around inside their stupid little faces.

[–]dtrainusmc 3 points4 points ago

This is how people develop trypophobia.

[–]KRAT0SXx 4 points5 points ago

I have it for sure. This is freaking me out.

[–]judasi 2 points3 points ago

This kills the child.

[–]morrgh 1 point2 points ago

"The more you know" doesn't seem to be a good thing in this occasion.

[–]Delicatesther 1 point2 points ago

I lost my front teeth, root and all, when I was barely four years old and had to wait five years for my adult teeth to settle in. It's safe to say I'm a big fan of having more teeth over less. This image is still one of the scariest things I have seen in a while, though!

[–]Siarles 0 points1 point ago

Huh. Well, that's interesting.

[–]PatientZero001 0 points1 point ago

Whose wisdom teeth are that straight?!

[–]LazyVixen 3 points4 points ago

The wisdom teeth aren't visible/started developing yet. The child's 6 year molars haven't erupted yet so the two large molars in the back are the first and second molar. My guess is the kid is only about 4 or 5.

[–]orangelace 1 point2 points ago

so the teeth are stored line in the bone itself? What happens to the empty spaces after the teeth move?

[–]fotoman 1 point2 points ago

my son loves this photo. don't know how he'll react to losing his first tooth though....

[–]Caserole 1 point2 points ago

I saw this on the frontpage a few months ago and have been wary to avoid seeing this at all costs. You won.

[–]A-CHINESE-GUY 0 points1 point ago

Suddenly feel like doing this

[–]ulgamoth 1 point2 points ago

new hobby: feeling around children's mouths for adult teeth.

[–]upwithwhich 1 point2 points ago

Terrifying.

[–]Eblan85 0 points1 point ago

Idk why I keep trying to find holes in my skull while I stare at this picture lol.

[–]westernsociety 1 point2 points ago

This makes my face feel weird...

[–]Blaster395 0 points1 point ago

Now when can our biology stop being stupid and allow us to have more than two sets of teeth over the course of our life? Sure, it may suffice when life expectancy is only about 30, but times have changed in the last 5,000 years and now that life expectancy is entering the 80's, 2 sets just isn't enough.

[–]1h8fulkat 1 point2 points ago

Its a shame this kid had to die to get the pic.

[–]tawke 0 points1 point ago

It's alleged that Jimmy Saville liked it this way, apparently.

[–]drempire 0 points1 point ago

trypophobia? google search and still do not understand

[–]SnakesTancredi -1 points0 points ago

From what I can tell this means the best place to punch a child is right in the mouth since there's more bones. If my hypothesis is correct then my nephew should be able to walk it off. Be back in a sec.

[–]tehnico 1 point2 points ago

It's like a monster.

[–]Corgibuttz 0 points1 point ago

It makes me hate children even more.

[–]shadowwork -1 points0 points ago

Reminds me of those plants that don’t exist in real life, but every woman has in a decorative bowl on her coffee table.

[–]sheldon_blue 1 point2 points ago

can. not. unsee.

[–]always_abort_it -1 points0 points ago

Is...is the child going to be okay?

[–]uptwolait 0 points1 point ago

This kills the child.

[–]jadebcmt 0 points1 point ago

Imagine the orthodontic work..

[–]supers0nic 0 points1 point ago

Makes sense.

[–]SeductiveHaboob 0 points1 point ago

OP.... Did you murder a child for up votes?

[–]Valdearg20 0 points1 point ago

That is so freaking cool. Not sure why people are scared of this. It's a totally natural process and amazing from a biological standpoint.

[–]Kstau24 0 points1 point ago

...The teeth are above the bottom of the nose.... Dear god

[–]neurotictothabone 0 points1 point ago

Phobia is an irrational fear...I don't think there's anything irrational about hating the site of porous, unhealthy looking tissue...

[–]patchsonic 0 points1 point ago

Talk about your teeth crowding.

[–]Sparked01 0 points1 point ago

I seriously gotta start re-posting shit.

[–]raycluster 0 points1 point ago

This is the most terrifying and disgusting thing I've ever seen. Nothing makes me want to puke like holes in tissue. I really don't care about open cut bodys or fungal ingections on genitals. But this is to much for me... Going to watch some kittens now.

[–]mononudeosis 0 points1 point ago

Creepiest part? Those unerupted teeth are housed in your dental crypt.

[–]Ozzymandias 1 point2 points ago

Had I been shown that before losing all my baby teeth, I would have freaked out...

[–]tuck5649 0 points1 point ago

Thank you for not posting this in r/wtf.

[–]shockhead 1 point2 points ago

OH MY GOD I HATE IT I HATE IT

[–]marvinzupz 0 points1 point ago

I hope "No babies were hurt making this"

[–]shittyusernameBAYbay 0 points1 point ago

JESUS ON A STICK. This is so fucking horrible and scary to me and I can't even explain why.

[–]YoureMyBoyBloo 0 points1 point ago

They truly are fucking monsters.

[–]Itssoohmygod 0 points1 point ago

These photos are something I m never able to unsee. I am currently curled up pecking out these keys cos I feel so ill. TRUE PHOBIA DAMNIT.

My girlfriend is currently taking pictures of me to edit to attach little teeth inside of me. Jerk.

[–]sardonicusmaxim 0 points1 point ago

This is probably one of the more horrifying things I've. Ever. Seen.

[–]Cerbius11 0 points1 point ago

First that video of the pregnant ladies baby pushing her stomach out. Now this.

Children are fucking scary, man.

[–]apinney89 0 points1 point ago

What I learned from this photo: If you find yourself in a fight with a young child, aim for the chin. They have a weak jaw.

[–]reptomin 0 points1 point ago

Well technically this child's skull will NEVER lose baby teeth.

[–]sindrit 0 points1 point ago

Child skull without the outer layers sanded off http://www.boneclones.com/images/bc-116-lg.jpg

[–]acerobertZ 0 points1 point ago

That's just creepy.

[–]StephensonB 0 points1 point ago

I always knew babies were monsters.

[–]neenween 1 point2 points ago

We handle hundreds of dental x-rays in my department at work and we see this type of stuff in panoramas on occasion. The creepiest was a panorama for a kid who had a special orthodontic treatment plan; she had two sets of baby teeth. Her face looked like a freakin' shark's jaw; think this but with about 15 more teeth waiting to emerge

[–]Cepheia -1 points0 points ago

I have a need to see an infant's skull before baby teeth come in now.

My husband came home to tell me he was so scared by a picture he saw today on reddit, he told me he is going to have a bad night. I asked him what was the picture of? He said a skull, so I started looking for the picture... Then I look at him and I ask, what is wrong with this picture? I don't see anything scary about, he said it scared him ALOT.

Although incredibly interesting, it makes me super sad to see the cavities in the kid's head.

Based on the stage of formation of the crown/roots of the permanent teeth I would say that this kid is only 4-5 years old. Source: I'm a biological anthropologist.
