didn't read the title right and thought that was a young Obama meeting Biden

[–]shamefulctrlALTdel 128 points129 points ago

"Don't worry Barry... we will save PBS. Elmo's not going anywhere."

[–]stamatt45 15 points16 points ago

"It's time to arm Sesame St." - Biden

[–]loveboatrevisited 17 points18 points ago

I did the exact same thing and had no idea what was going on. I thought "how the fuck has Biden become younger?"

[–]trampus1 13 points14 points ago

He just hasn't used his Force Lightning for a while.

[–]DFractalH 2 points3 points ago

I did the exact same thing and had no idea what was going on. I thought "how the fuck has Biden become younger?"

Even in this case, shouldn't it be Obama becoming younger?

[–]Gigawatz 4 points5 points ago

Nah, he meant that Biden looks particularly old in this picture, seemingly suggesting that he aged in reverse from the time it was taken until now.

[–]zeveronian 2 points3 points ago

Well that's okay. I read that a young Obama supporter had an emotional erection.

[–]Going_to_Pasalacqua 0 points1 point ago

Fucking exactly like the end of Men in Black 3.

[–]TrueBlue0276 135 points136 points ago

That kid is doing everything in his power to keep Biden away from an open mic.

[–]TheGreatProfit 65 points66 points ago

The VP debate is going to be the greatest shitshow ever.

[–]thomashrog 28 points29 points ago

I still remember from four years ago when Biden had just a touch of lust in his eye when debating with Palin.

[–]UNHDude 18 points19 points ago

Ryan ain't a bad looking guy. It's 2012, Biden's a hip old dewd. I could see that glint still being there.

[–]jsmith223 2 points3 points ago

Chuckled out loud. Thank you.

[–]fabtastik 15 points16 points ago

Paul Ryan: "We have this great plan but I can't tell you about it because then I'd have to explain it."

Joe Biden: "Yes. What?"

[–]ruin 1 point2 points ago

He's putting his entire body between Biden's foot and his mouth.

[–]Kubaker1 4 points5 points ago

One's crazy, the other's an idiot. The game is to guess who's who.

[–]jesuz -4 points-3 points ago

Biden is a good debater...remember two days ago when Romney 'won' the debate with tone?

[–]tonytonetone -2 points-1 points ago

lol you must be from /r/politics...

[–]bill_nydus 34 points35 points ago

"Please, man. Please stop talking..."

[–]TheRedComet 13 points14 points ago

Biden, pls. Biden. Stahp.

[–]Skoolz 2 points3 points ago

paper towels.

[–]zombieslaya1138 43 points44 points ago

He shows way more emotion than I ever would upon meeting any politician, that's for damn sure.

[–]CoffinRehersal 16 points17 points ago

I still cant imagine what A politician could say or do that could illicit any emotion from me aside from anger, even in high school.

[–]emperorOfTheUniverse 20 points21 points ago

You'd probably be surprised. You don't get elected by people because you are unlikeable. Politicians are usually affable, charismatic, and charming. They're like the guy in the group who tries to pick a place to eat that everyone will enjoy, laughs at all your jokes, and keeps a smooth conversation rolling.

It's not until after everyone's eaten that you realize, 'hey, Biden left before the check came and didn't chip in. wtf?'

[–]plagueofgreymen 2 points3 points ago

Yep spot on assesment. I used to work around politicians and they can be highly afflable and interesting when required (usually). Once you're in the middle of it all you can't let the fact you despise everything someone stands for get in the way of the fact you have to work with them in some respect or other. Sitting on committees, meetings etc. So most of them can switch their persona on and off pretty effectively. It pays to remember though that the guy you just had a laugh with might well be planning to stab you in the back. The better you can fit in, the higher you'll rise. In politics the appearance of competance and likeability are just as if not more important than capability.

[–]SometimesMonkey 3 points4 points ago

Elicit. You attempted a Freudian slip, perhaps....

[–]AtlasAnimated 0 points1 point ago

Someone would make a good Washington Intern :)

[–]CoffinRehersal 0 points1 point ago

The whole thing about Freudian slips is that one doesn't attempt them, they just kind of happen.

[–]Th3R00ST3R 1 point2 points ago

"Son, we will try to keep the old, rich, bible thumping, gun lovin', racist out of the white house."

[–]cqw -1 points0 points ago

what a childish thing to say!

[–]1m0a1L 27 points28 points ago

"You're not OBAMA" begins crying

[–]bennysuperfly 1 point2 points ago

Initially I thought this was supposed to be being said by Biden.

[–]galiko 0 points1 point ago

Isn't it?

[–]Zorbane 0 points1 point ago

They both coulda said it

[–]Goeatabagofdicks 59 points60 points ago

My dad died when I was in high school. I went on to college with several scholarships, did well and graduated with a degree in biology with the addition of being in the honors college. I've been looking for work for some time with no avail. It's rough, but at some point ill get a job. I'd like to hug every American tax payer like that. Job or no job, thank you so much. I have an education and no debt. Thank you so much for that....

[–]dudeness11 3 points4 points ago

Thank you for using our taxes properly. From someone in the same position I wish you the best of luck with finding a concrete job.

[–]sesimon 2 points3 points ago

Hang in there. Keep looking. You will get a job. You belong to a generation that is having a much worse time of it then mine ever did. So, thanks right back at you for not giving up.

[–]krepitus 4 points5 points ago

Thanks for reminding me not all of our taxes get pissed away by irresponsible politicians.

[–]reddit_user13 7 points8 points ago

[–]theharber 8 points9 points ago

Go eat a bag of cocks.

[–]ItIsWhatItls 5 points6 points ago

You're very welcome :)

[–]bustanutbar 1 point2 points ago

Damn you young college kids and your "gimmie gimmie" mentality. Always looking for a handout!

[–]redmustang04 82 points83 points ago

Joe may say whatever comes to his head, but one thing for sure is that he always is a genuine. One of those hard blue collar guys. You know that in 1973 his first wife and year old daughter died in a car crash. That would of broken most men, but for Joe he still kept going.

[–]facedawg 48 points49 points ago

I like how everyone thinks he's an idiot until election season

[–]mikek3 11 points12 points ago

Sure, he has no filter and hence will spout off the first thing that comes to mind, but he's far from an idiot.

[–]bill_nydus 4 points5 points ago

I think everyone just gives him shit because he's a gaf machine. Always speaking off the cuff or doing something that makes him look bad, but I honestly think he's a great Vice Prez.

[–]reddit_user13 6 points7 points ago

No on looks like a gaffe machine after Romney.

[–]Wombizzlebat 2 points3 points ago

Hell, with Romney it isn't even a gaffe. He's just an entitled, uppity cunt that can't open his mouth without either a lie or something deplorable that he believes 100% coming out.

[–]tashinorbo 3 points4 points ago

he is in no way an idiot, he is a very smart and accomplished senator and VP. He just has the tendency to put his foot in his mouth

[–]gloomdoom 0 points1 point ago

Unlike all other humans? That's the thing I like about him. People want this disconnect within their politicians and as a result, they end up with used car salesmen half the time or 'I'D LIKE SOMEONE I COULD DRINKA BEER WITH!"

Biden is like every other human in the world..he says something if it's on his mind and gets worked up at times over certain topics.

He's just a Veep. They're historically pretty bad but would you like me to compare him to Cheney, who actually hijacked the president's position many times and usurped his rein?

I'll take Biden 1,000 times more than I'd ever want cheney or someone of his ilk in there.

[–]tashinorbo 0 points1 point ago

what do you mean by they are historically pretty bad?

[–]ReverendDizzle 2 points3 points ago

I've never really thought he was an idiot. I've seem some dumb fucking vice presidents in my day.

[–]Fartgasm -2 points-1 points ago

Al Gore comes to mind.

[–]funkcity 9 points10 points ago

Dan Quayle!

[–]notasinglefuckwasgiv 1 point2 points ago

"Potado"

[–]brundlfly 0 points1 point ago

Excuse me, I believe it's spelled POTATOE. -Dan Quayle

[–]Aschebescher 10 points11 points ago

*would have

[–]nastrabrahmus 1 point2 points ago

When he was a Congressman representing Delaware, he was the only member of Congress to still live in his home district permanently. He took the Amtrak home from DC everyday. Quite the commute.

[–]Binon 1 point2 points ago

He's the main contender for Almost Politically Correct VP - "You got the first mainstream African American who is articulate and bright and clean and nice looking."

I guess this picture means he found one more clean articulate bright black man.

[–]kalyco 2 points3 points ago

He's a good man. You can see it. One of the funniest moments was http://www.youtube.com/watch?feature=player_embedded&v=IKfH_E-NsFQ but their faces say it all...good humor, fun happy people who clearly share a great bond...

[–]TrancePhreak -1 points0 points ago

[–]justanormalguy01 2 points3 points ago

This. My dad tells me all the time, and he is a republican, how much he supports and loves Joe. He is one of the reasons he's considering voting for Obama this election.

[–]trexchow 1 point2 points ago

I remember the Palin debate when she brought up how he wouldn't know the struggles of single parenthood. The contemp he had in his voice was palpable. She wilted as he responded with emotion.

[–]redmustang04 0 points1 point ago

That's what he's good at and next weeks VP debate he's going to have to come out attacking, but also use that emotion that Obama is going to have to bring in 2 weeks.

[–]rasputin777 -5 points-4 points ago

One of those hard-workin' blue collar millionaire senators!

[–]Matthew212 20 points21 points ago

Actually his net worth is only about 250k. We had this discussion in class the other day. I'm on mobile right now but I'll try to find a source

http://www.davemanuel.com/pols/joe-biden/

[–]gloomdoom 1 point2 points ago

How dare you interrupt a circle jerk of obviously very well versed political enthusiasts on reddit by inserting some kind of citation or suggesting someone is full of shit?

This is reddit, my good man. If you want hijack worthless opinions with all your fancy facts and statistics an truth, I suggest you go elsewhere!

[–]Deathalicious 7 points8 points ago

He's consistently been the least wealthy member of the Senate: http://www.politifact.com/truth-o-meter/statements/2008/aug/27/howard-dean/we-should-all-be-so-poor/

I think his net worth may actually be a million or so by now, but considering that he's been a senator for a couple of decades it's remarkable that he's not wealthier than that.

[–]sgtpepper_spray 14 points15 points ago

Biden gave a beautiful, touching speech at my great-uncle's funeral; I've been a fan ever since

[–]sbhansf 6 points7 points ago

From what I have heard almost all politicians are not the insensitive, cardboard cutouts their opponents make them to look like during campaigns. I have read a lot of stories of very liberal people describing Bush as a genuinely likable person.

[–]energirl 9 points10 points ago

Yeah, I'm not a fan of GW's administration. Rather, I was one of his biggest opponents. However, a family member of mine dated him many years ago and has nothing but wonderful things to say about him. Honestly, I wouldn't mind grabbing a beer with him and chilling. I just never want him to have any actual power again.

[–]sbhansf 2 points3 points ago

Which he won't since he won two terms, so it is cool to drink beer with GW if you ever get the chance. To be sure I will. Obama too. I am sure they could both afford some really good beer too.

[–]AngryScientist 0 points1 point ago

Obama brews his own in the white house :D

[–]jmad202 0 points1 point ago

He is, and I think the ability to distinguish policy for the person, is really, really important. GW is actually a really, really good guy from all accounts. He has done a TON with the Clinton initiative after leaving office. But his policies are what I disagree with.

[–]dinker 5 points6 points ago

The first rule of life is to stay as far away from politicians as possible

[–]Numlocks 8 points9 points ago

I honestly dont understand how someone could feel that strongly about meeting a politician.

[–]hi_reddit_k_bye 1 point2 points ago

he's 15. Lot's of shit seems important when you're 15...

[–]flammenwerfer 3 points4 points ago

Like having your family benefit from tax cuts, student loans, etc? Not everyone has the fortune to only worry about inane shit when they're 15.

[–]GlassHouseResident 3 points4 points ago

I like you. You have perspective. I'm marking you down for my team in the event of a zombie apocalypse. You will be operating the flamethrower. I have every confidence that you will do so judiciously.

[–]doubleu 1 point2 points ago

looks like a photo opportunity to me

[–]dissidentdissenting 4 points5 points ago

I am not sure why it is so surprising to some that (1) this is a genuine moment and (2) that Biden would elicit this type of response from a young black kid. For all we know, this is a kid who recently got a scholarship to college, and attributes that fact to the Obama administration's education policies. Or perhaps he believes that because he has now seen a black president that one day the possibility may be open to himself. That it is not Obama himself is of no import, because it's the idea that is important. This is to say nothing of everyone's personal opinion of whether Obama's policies have been effective or not... merely that if this particular kid believes it, this would be an appropriate emotional response.

[–]Lyeta 2 points3 points ago

It's possible that it's because Joe Biden is just generally awesome.

[–]SOUTHPAWMIKE 9 points10 points ago

"Don't cry in front of the VP. Don't cry in front of the VP! Shit! Shit! Shiiiiiiiit!"

sob

[–]SOUTHPAWMIKE 10 points11 points ago

I read the story and now I feel insensitive for posting this.

[–]Bad_Account_Name 1 point2 points ago

For your mea culpa, an upvote.

[–]SOUTHPAWMIKE 0 points1 point ago

TIL what "mea culpa" means. So thanks for that and the upvote!

[–]Bad_Account_Name 0 points1 point ago

Thank you for your kind words. My life is now complete.

[–]wallab6[S] 31 points32 points ago

I usually hate when politicians use sappy anecdotal stories, but this one actually hit me really hard. I got all teary eyed by the end of it: http://www.barackobama.com/news/entry/keep-the-faith

[–]jmad202 1 point2 points ago

Right in the feels man, right in the feels.

[–]Mackinstyle 15 points16 points ago

The shittiest thing about politics is that you have little choice but to always suspect politicians have an agenda. But so many of them are actually real people.

[–]wallab6[S] 7 points8 points ago

I couldn't agree more. The look on Biden's face is so genuine here

[–]Mackinstyle 26 points27 points ago

He doesn't even look like Biden. He looks like a grandpa hugging a grandson.

[–]johnnytightlips2 10 points11 points ago

That's why I like Joe Biden; he doesn't come across as a normal politician, he seems like he's a regular man done good.

[–]Ftumsh 5 points6 points ago

Fuck, I'm as liberal as they come, but that article there sounded soooooo much like it was written by a PR company. :(

Great pic though.

[–]rlw1979 0 points1 point ago

propaganda is designed to play to your emotions

[–]AttractiveLemon 14 points15 points ago

Jeez and people say that China has a lot of propaganda.

[–]GlassHouseResident 2 points3 points ago

Do people say that? I thought people say that China kills and imprisons dissenters with the help of Yahoo. I had no idea about the propaganda thing.

[–]Nosis 6 points7 points ago

Is that a bathroom they're in?

[–]wallab6[S] 7 points8 points ago

It's a high school class room I believe. My school had the same black counter tops haha

[–]Stones25 0 points1 point ago

It is a science room, or chemistry room if you please. Black tops are usually representative of that in U.S. middle and high schools.

[–]diuvic 1 point2 points ago

Because they dissipate heat quickly correct?

[–]ztkraptor 7 points8 points ago

This...is the most set up picture I think I have ever seen on the internet...

[–]TheNev 8 points9 points ago

The propaganda is so heartwarming!

[–]Replevin4ACow -2 points-1 points ago

Being a photo that does not fit into a preconceived notion that all politicians are heartless scumbags does not make this propaganda.

[–]TheNev 6 points7 points ago

It's totally coincidental that this pops up now, then. Totally coincidental.

Totally.

Just. Like. All. The. Others.

[–]Replevin4ACow -3 points-2 points ago

Um, OK. I don't know what any of that has to do with propaganda. Keep up the good work!

[–]SoulDrivenOlives 3 points4 points ago

Then you are not a very smart man or you didn't even try. Godspeed.

[–]tiercel 2 points3 points ago

What the hell did Biden say this time? Quit making folks cry, Joe!

[–]Th3R00ST3R 0 points1 point ago

[–]isofat 2 points3 points ago

"Mr. Obama, you're whiter and older than I thought."

[–]heavymetalman75672 2 points3 points ago

Why?

[–]a_rascal_king 2 points3 points ago

I don't get this picture at all.

[–]SonicCephalopod 2 points3 points ago

Biden seems like such a genuine squishy guy. Every picture of him is hugging someone, I love it.

[–]Lyeta 0 points1 point ago

I'd probably have the same reaction. I love Joe Biden. Whenever I see him on Tv, instant smile. He's just so fun.

I also think he needs a puppy. He'd be so happy with a puppy.

[–]jim9162 9 points10 points ago

I don't understand how people dupe themselves into thinking these politicians are paragons of justice and truth and blah blah blah. theyre polticians, theyre all, to some degree, crooked. They've manipulated and tailored their images just to keep their jobs/power. Back in high school there was a guy who said "obama gave one of the most important speeches in American history." back when he was first running for president. maybe im just cynical, but i would defintely consider myself disillusioned.

[–]lucasorion 1 point2 points ago

he may be a politician, but he's also a human being - one of the better ones who fits both descriptions: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fLSjrS0bb08&feature=related

[–]SlevenKlevra 1 point2 points ago

Please tell me more about how horrible and disillusioned your life is being around for what 18-20 years. His election and even the fact he was able to get the democratic nomination in 08 was one of the most groundbreaking events in American history. Simply for the fact that with all of the latent racism (birther movement) that still exists in this country we were able to elect a black man as president. A country where not 40 years before people were still being segregated by the color of their skin. All policy aside it is a HUGE thing, and if you cant see that you are extremely blind to the world around you

[–]jim9162 0 points1 point ago

So because he's black it makes him a good president? Because he's black it makes him different from other politicians? That's the stupidest argument I've heard yet

[–]kenny-rogers 5 points6 points ago

“If you're not careful, the newspapers will have you hating the people who are being oppressed, and loving the people who are doing the oppressing.”

― Malcolm X

[–]the_turk88 4 points5 points ago

I didn't read the title so I thought this was Obama after the debate. I'm gonna go ahead and keep thinking that. It's funnier that way.

[–]bizhead 5 points6 points ago

I bet they swapped bidden in last minute and dude didnt have time to react and went with it. Like a boss.

[–]Freakindon 2 points3 points ago

Not so sure I'd ever get so close to Biden.

[–]GlassHouseResident 0 points1 point ago

Are you kidding? I'd get so close it would be hard to tell where I began and Biden left off. I'd whisper sweetly into his ear about how excited I was about a possible second term. He'd laugh awkwardly, but I'd put a finger to his lips. "Sh," I'd say, "let's just enjoy this moment while we can, Mr. Vice President." He'd insist that I call him "Joe", but I'd refuse: "I'm voting for you, Mr. Vice President. I'm voting for you so hard!"

[–]Freakindon 0 points1 point ago

.<

[–]theGreatGoodbye -1 points0 points ago

Biden's thoughts. "Okay. Cameras are on me. I'm a politician. Make this look good."

[–]TL-DReddit 0 points1 point ago

Dad!

[–]Code_For_Food -1 points0 points ago

Shh, no more tears. Only dreams now.

[–]hawkens85 0 points1 point ago

"SH! Don't speak, Mr Vice President. Don't speak...you'll ruin it."

[–]afihavok -1 points0 points ago

He's upset because he wanted to meet the President, not douchey mcdouchenberg.

[–]reagan2016 0 points1 point ago

They look like they're in a clinic. Did Joe Biden just give this young man a physical? Is he even qualified to do that?

[–]AdaAstra 1 point2 points ago

He must be color blind.

Yeah, I'll show myself out now.

[–]whiteanglosaxonelite 0 points1 point ago

Is that one of Obama's half brothers? Hell I would hug that guy to if I grew up without a father figure in my life. Nice classroom. No point in putting up educational materials when the children can't read. His unionized teacher probably gave him extra credit for this stunt.

[–]zurkyburky 0 points1 point ago

holy shit, look at the guns on Biden

[–]lonerball 1 point2 points ago

This is why Biden will be your oldest President in 2016.

[–]Nicombobula 1 point2 points ago

context?

[–]ignoramus012 -1 points0 points ago

I TOLD PIERCE A THOUSAND TIMES: I NEVER WANTED TO MEET JOE BIDEN! I JUST WANTED A PICTURE! YOU CAN'T DISAPPOINT A PICTURE!

[–]LarryFlintwagon 1 point2 points ago

This picture made me laugh, hard.

[–]gabew101 -1 points0 points ago

It's always a special time when you get a free phone.

[–]TrancePhreak 0 points1 point ago

He's just sad because his family is now on the run because of the RIAA/MPAA lawsuits.

[–]bustanutbar 0 points1 point ago

Am I the only one who really likes Biden?

He is completely approachable, personable, and does his job. He's just an old man who isn't afraid to crack wise, and personally, I think that is part of his charm.

[–]gloomdoom 0 points1 point ago

Say whatever you want about Joe. He is 1,000 times the human being Cheney is and 1,000 times less dangerous and evil and corrupt as Cheney was as Veep.

He's one of the few people on the Hill who hasn't turned his position into a million dollar career and he was raised right and worked his way up.

Continue with the "I'm so politically informed 2 weeks every 4 years, I'm so kewl cuz I'm anti-everyone and anti-politics" circle jerk. I would like to step out now before the jism really starts to fly.

[–]yewskull94 0 points1 point ago

I'm not a supporter of Obama (then again, I don't have a say seeing as I'm a 16 year-old Canadian girl...), but this picture warms my heart.

[–]ReadySetKill 1 point2 points ago

This is weird as fuck.

[–]klaqua 0 points1 point ago

So, it is a religion...

On a side note. Politicians should serve and never act or be treated like Rock-stars! Two John Adams quotes:

"Because power corrupts, society's demands for moral authority and character increase as the importance of the position increases."

and

"Power always thinks it has a great soul and vast views beyond the comprehension of the weak."

Apply these two to the pic or current and recent US Goverment.

[–]Deathalicious 1 point2 points ago

You know, people always poke fun at Biden but he is just such a solid guy, you know?

[–]randumname -1 points0 points ago

That's part of the reason people like him get made fun of...it's hard for other people to be faced with earnestness.

Good or bad, like him or dislike him, but it's okay to not always be conniving.

[–]Deathalicious 1 point2 points ago

I choke up every time I read about how he would take the Amtrak home every single night from DC to be with his children.

[–]Shitlers_Moustache -2 points-1 points ago

Am I the only one that feels sick after looking at this?

[–]jp007 1 point2 points ago

Wow, what a chump. I wouldn't want to TOUCH a slimy snake politician, much less hug em.

[–]ezwip 0 points1 point ago

Cmere and gimme a hug u useless eater...
