[–]DusLeJ 164 points165 points ago

Perfect mashup. Good on you.

[–]roysha[S] 34 points35 points ago

Thanks! Props to matt01ss for helping me get them put together and timed correctly!

[–]matt01ss 24 points25 points ago

Lmao just saw this is 3rd on my front page, haha great idea for the gif!

[–]roysha[S] 5 points6 points ago

Thanks dude! Nice work on the gif! You did what I could not!

[–]bedintruder 67 points68 points ago

Quick, someone add red and blue ties to these guys and it will be perfect.

[–]Outlulz 81 points82 points ago

I was so confused as to which party the candidates were running for, so glad they wore color coded ties.

[–]bedintruder 63 points64 points ago

It sure saved my ass because I totally forgot the president was black.

[–]Jeroknite 33 points34 points ago

He's WHAT?!

[–]NottaGrammerNasi 12 points13 points ago

And here I was thinking he was just tan from all his time in Hawaii.

[–]illaqueable 12 points13 points ago

No, it was the spray tannin--ah, see, there, it is confusing.

Man, am I glad Obama's a Mormon, though.

[–]Santos_L_Halper 7 points8 points ago

I SAID - THE NEW PRESIDENT'S A- church bell

[–]Ironcymru 0 points1 point ago

What's that Gabby Johnson?

[–]bnj7146 1 point2 points ago

The President is a Ni-"GONG"

[–]r0x0rm4n 12 points13 points ago

You laugh, but my grandmother voted based on which tie she liked better.

[–]illaqueable 6 points7 points ago

"I like the feller in the green tie! Oh, he's so handsome."

[–]The3rdjj 3 points4 points ago

Jill Stein?

[–]RadtasticNinjaChick 11 points12 points ago

And flags on their lapels. Remember that Obama had the smaller one.

[–]ntrabue 30 points31 points ago

You forgot to mention his was smaller because he likes America less...

[–]johnylaw 10 points11 points ago

That goes without saying.

[–]T25Bomb 7 points8 points ago

But Romney's had some weird spot on it. Presumably representing the part of Americans he isn't concerned with.

[–]RadtasticNinjaChick 0 points1 point ago

I'm assuming that spot comprised of forty-seven percent of the actual flag.

[–]T25Bomb 0 points1 point ago

It actually wasn't quite that big.

[–]-steezy_wunda_bred- 425 points426 points ago

That isn't an interpretation. That is exactly what happened.

[–]Battletooth 173 points174 points ago

Hm. I somehow missed the horse carcass. Which part was that at? Did they bring in the horse carcasses or did they kill the horses on the show?

I can only assume real dead horses were there since you said this isn't an interpretation.

[–]Naggers123 111 points112 points ago

It's pretty clear why Romney won this debate, but I found it quite offensive that he did not share.

[–]hobovision 15 points16 points ago

[–]GandTforme 24 points25 points ago

This explains why he wants to give the corn industry more subsidies. So they can continue putting corn-syrup in his Zingers.

[–]mega_shit 4 points5 points ago

I hate to bring real politics into this, but Obama actually voted for the Farm Bill while in the Senate and continues to support it to this day; it's why he does so well in Iowa (McCain sucked there because he actually voted against the Farm Bill)

[–]StupidSolipsist 0 points1 point ago

Thanks for the real politics. That was good to know. Farm subsidies, like many very industry-specific policy areas, should receive so much more attention from voters, besides the ones with unbridled self-interest.

[–]GandTforme 0 points1 point ago

I was just making a silly joke, but thank you for the actual info. TIL

[–]illaqueable 2 points3 points ago

putting corn-syrup in his Zingers.

I don't think that means what you think it means

[–]spikey666 12 points13 points ago

It's, like, a metaphor, man. The dead horse represents America. And Nathan Fillion represents that Jim Lehrer lives on a spaceship.

[–]irish711 4 points5 points ago

Nah, they were just kind of dead.

[–]Fellows23 1 point2 points ago

They were in the process of dying. They were getting beaten pretty hard, so neither horse lasted very long.

[–]brooky_gee -2 points-1 points ago

Erm... beating a dead horse? Duh?

[–]Battletooth 4 points5 points ago

But the OP said that this is not an interpretation. You see beating a dead horse is an interpretation of going over a repeated subject but since it's what actually happened, apparently, I can presume horse carcasses were brought in.

[–]helgaofthenorth 2 points3 points ago

You must know by now that a circlejerk is no place for things like definitions and reasoning!

But I do think that the OP meant that the "beating a dead horse" metaphor wasn't just what the debate could be interpreted as. The "debate" was not a debate at all, but both candidates actually taking part in the metaphorical beating of dead horses. He didn't say that it was a literal representation, just that the .gif was exactly what happened. So if you consider the .gifs to just be graphical representations of metaphors (which many do), he's kind of right.

I wish I had another word for metaphor. Now it doesn't sound like a real word.

[–]roysha[S] 1 point2 points ago

Haha, for what it's worth, here's my reasoning for using the "beating a dead horse" reference: Earlier Comment But to each his/her own!

[–]Mr_Ected 0 points1 point ago

It was after the credits.

[–]Gank_Spank_Sploog 3 points4 points ago

I got drunk and screamed incoherent words at my tv.

[–]HoboSpider 5 points6 points ago

I have you tagged as "possibly Ron Paul" now.

[–]Gank_Spank_Sploog 1 point2 points ago

Nah, im voting for Gary Johnson. Although Ron Paul is a better choice then the giant douche and shit sandwhich.

[–]JackieCam 2 points3 points ago

Best drinking game.

[–]BZuckerkorn 1 point2 points ago

I don't think so...Romney posed as someone he hasn't in the past year...

[–]Redcard911 11 points12 points ago

"I want to SUPPORT the middle-class." "My opponent is a blatant moron, I want to support the MIDDLE-class!"

[–]tesnakeinurboot 1 point2 points ago

They aren't even talking about the same middle class.

[–]live52 22 points23 points ago

Good, but one dead horse they didn't beat was the housing bubble. I didn't hear the term spoken by any CNN commentator during the lead-up nonsense or either candidate but then I could only take an hour of the "debate."

[–]AnAngryFetus 7 points8 points ago

Housing was touched on eventually. Obama said in his closing statement, if I remember correctly, that housing is bouncing back. So yes, they did beat that dead horse.

[–]president_truman 3 points4 points ago

It was less a beating than a half-hearted kick.

[–]live52 0 points1 point ago

Thanks for that. I just wanted to be sure they beat each and every dead horse.

[–]dasstrooper 0 points1 point ago

Pretty sure I heard "housing crisis"

[–]knight4646 221 points222 points ago

But if Obama would've "won" the debate, Reddit would be having the biggest circle jerk right now.

[–]Pessle 153 points154 points ago

Well to be honest what you just posted has been posted in every single thread mentioning the debate so it's kind of turned into a meta-circlejerk.

[–]kingseed 68 points69 points ago

Anti-circlejerk circlejerks are becoming increasingly common and the people participating in them are being extremely hypocritical. Thank you for pointing it out (now lets not make this a circlejerk too).

[–]Alphaeno 10 points11 points ago

This is how I feel as well. Don't mention it and you keep it out of the circle. Mention it and you are feeding the fire. Whenever someone mentions anti-circlejerk, I imagine they really are jerking the circle.

[–]odysseus88 6 points7 points ago

We should protest by forming a big gay pile. That'll show all of them.

[–]dayonetactics 1 point2 points ago

Problem solved, let's all head home.

[–]anonydon 4 points5 points ago

I know that feel bro, sometimes it's like, can't you just stop circle jerking each other already?

[–]knight4646 10 points11 points ago

Boom. Circlejerk

[–]anonydon 2 points3 points ago

That came around full circle........jerk.

[–]knight4646 0 points1 point ago

You can tell it's a circle jerk by the first line of what people are saying. "This is how I feel as well" and "I know that feel bro" are both very popular circle jerking phrases.

[–]maccabeus 6 points7 points ago

welcome to reddit. the 13million user mobeusjerk.

[–]Abner_Snopes 0 points1 point ago

I'm god damn sick of these anti-anti-circle jerk sessions.

[–]brndn01 12 points13 points ago

yo dawg, i heard you like circlejerks. so i put a circlejerk inside a circlejerk inside a circlejerk.

[–]raiter 15 points16 points ago

Concentric circlejerks.

[–]_supernovasky_ 3 points4 points ago

God dammit mental imagery.

[–]umop3pisdnwi 0 points1 point ago

I just tried saying that out loud as fast as i could.

[–]knight4646 2 points3 points ago

I see it as being the big black guy who rapes the rapists in prison while screaming "HOW DO YOU LIKE IT!?"

[–]Mr_Ected 2 points3 points ago

I'm also starting to see this reply to every post like knight4646's, so you are only feeding the meta-meta-circlejerk.

[–]knight4646 1 point2 points ago

This is the first time I've seen what would be considered a meta-meta-meta-circlejerk. Way to be original

[–]Bobs16 24 points25 points ago

I wanted to know who won last nights debate. I logged on to reddit this morning and seen nothing about the debate on the front page and automatically assumed Romney won.

[–]GrizzledBastard 12 points13 points ago

Lesson: Don't come to Reddit for good political coverage

[–]Queefaroni 42 points43 points ago

exactly. It's like if your team wins, "wow they played great!" If your team loses, its like "both teams played terrible."

[–]ANDYBIERSACK -5 points-4 points ago

They did...

[–]AgamemnonV1 9 points10 points ago

It is having a big circlejerk right now. Seen /r/politics lately? Everyone in the Obama camp is trying to downplay last night's debate. I don't think it takes a rocket scientist to know what opinion dominates that subreddit.

[–]cant_be_pun_seen -1 points0 points ago

Why wouldnt you downplay it? Had you even heard Mitt Romney for more than a 10 sec news clip before last night?

That was a Mitt Romney playing a moderate conservative, something he is completely not.

[–]ButteredNoodles 4 points5 points ago

Well actually, if you look at his time as governor in Massachusetts he was a moderate conservative.

[–]cant_be_pun_seen -3 points-2 points ago

Yes, I know, but that was then this is now. He hasnt been running as that for president since ever. Or at least the 08 election.

[–]ButteredNoodles 1 point2 points ago

To get the Republican candidacy you have to appeal to the far right. It is probably just a dumb opinion by me, but to me that's the reason he fumbled and seemed like he didn't know what he was talking about during the republican debates. He was talking about things he didn't actually believe and was just winging it hoping to get the candidacy where he would go back to being moderate, which he believes is what the country needs. To me that is what it needs, someone who takes both sides and applies them so Congress actually gets something done. Again just my opinion that I'm entitled to.

[–]cant_be_pun_seen -2 points-1 points ago

I wish you were right, because I liked Mitt Romney of 08.

However, I really am not seeing it now. Hes not the same Romney I would have voted for in 08.

[–]AgamemnonV1 8 points9 points ago

What it was was a man who knew how to play the game. I'm just a little surprised that Obama didn't prepare for this considering he's been in that game for four years now and had seen what Romney's campaign was like.

[–]mcknicker 0 points1 point ago

That would be Barack Obama.

[–]cant_be_pun_seen -2 points-1 points ago

what a stupid thing to say.

edit: before you say anything, I only support obama because he is by far the lesser of 2 evils.

[–]mcknicker 1 point2 points ago

http://www.thefiscaltimes.com/Columns/2011/07/22/Barack-Obama-The-Democrats-Richard-Nixon.aspx#page1

  • Here are a few examples of Obama's effective conservatism:

    • His stimulus bill was half the size that his advisers thought necessary;
    • He continued Bush’s war and national security policies without change and even retained Bush’s defense secretary;
    • He put forward a health plan almost identical to those that had been supported by Republicans such as Mitt Romney in the recent past, pointedly rejecting the single-payer option favored by liberals;
    • He caved to conservative demands that the Bush tax cuts be extended without getting any quid pro quo whatsoever;
    • And in the past few weeks [as of July, 2011] he has supported deficit reductions that go far beyond those offered by Republicans.

Just trying to point out that America's definition of 'liberal' and 'conservative' are much closer than the rest of the world's.

P.S. Supporting the most popular evil is still supporting evil (figuratively). There are other options, you know.

[–]Alexi_Strife 2 points3 points ago

Clearly SRS rigged the debate so Mittens could win and thus rustle the jimmies of the entire shitlord nation.

[–]knight4646 3 points4 points ago

No one's jimmies should be rustled. People seem to think that one candidate will usher us into a new age of prosperity whereas the other will be the downfall of America. In the end, the prosperity of a nation depends on how intelligent and hardworking the citizens of your nation are(Africa is not full of stupid lazy people. I don't want anyone getting that impression).

[–]Listerdude 0 points1 point ago

I'm now bored of this fact being pointed out. Reddit likes Obama over Romney. So what.

[–]Manofonemind 0 points1 point ago

They should have spiced it up and invited Gary Johnson.

[–]assadsucksd 32 points33 points ago

They beat the dead horses until they turned into zombie horses and beat them to death too. Crows ate the zombie horses and turned into zombie crows so they beat them to death too and ground them into powder and snorted the remains.

[–]Brony_Starstruck -1 points0 points ago

I enjoyed this comment.

[–]lmmortal 2 points3 points ago

Between the dance party in the car and the distraction of the momma bear and two cubs im a cops wet dream roght now when comes to wreckless driving.

[–]occams-laser 0 points1 point ago

I dont even begin to understand.

[–]roysha[S] 6 points7 points ago

As stated in a couple comments, props go to matt01ss for helping me combine the 3 gifs correctly and pointing me to the Nathan Fillion gif I was looking for!

I thought I'd included props to him in the text of my post, but apparently I'm bad at Redditing...and I should feel bad. (I do.)

[–]matt01ss 2 points3 points ago

Haha karma police out tonight, you did fine man, that's what gifrequests is for.

[–]roller_g 1 point2 points ago

Stop feeling bad. You made me kind of laugh. And also, laugh again. Good job.

[–]Roflkopt3r 4 points5 points ago

"You know, I kinda want to help poor children"

"But that's totally not what you are doing! I want to help poor children!

"No, no, I!"

Both were completely trying to only charge open doors.

[–]TeethofBusey 8 points9 points ago

Lehrer: "Maybe you two should team up, since you both want to help poor children."

Romney and Obama together: "...the fuck did just he just say?" They pull their guns and shoot the Lehrer "Pulp Fiction style" and continue the petty bickering.

[–]proteus91 9 points10 points ago

Damnit i miss firefly....

[–]8Erinyes8 3 points4 points ago

Have you tried to watch Castle? It is amazing!

[–]TheMagicToolBus 2 points3 points ago

Love. You can learn all the math in the 'verse, but you take a boat in the air you don't love, she'll shake you off just as sure as the turning of worlds. Love keeps her in the air when she oughta fall down, tells you she's hurting 'fore she keens. Makes her a home.

[–]4rch7ek 13 points14 points ago

Lehrer is the german word for teacher.

[–]Naggers123 30 points31 points ago

It's also now colloquial English for '...'

[–]rawwmoan 1 point2 points ago

so does that mean the whole thing was just a parody of our educational system?

[–]taco_tuesdays 7 points8 points ago

Best one I've seen

[–]TheGreatGatsby2827 28 points29 points ago

Move the "Obama" label to the horse and you would have a more accurate representation.

[–]WenchSlayer 4 points5 points ago

way funnier than the actual gif

[–]forcedobilisk 13 points14 points ago

Told with easily recognizable reddit memes so the retards of reddit aren't too confused or overwhelmed by something new

[–]dakho 4 points5 points ago

Every day I spend here I realize the mass majority of Redditors are probably just young teenagers who go on once in a while, and there are millions and millions of them and they decide the majority of the content on the major subreddits.

[–]HuronSerenity 0 points1 point ago

Wise words.

[–]Enleat -1 points0 points ago

The frontpage material, at least a portion of it.

[–]TheSparrowX 2 points3 points ago

Give matt01ss some karma for making the gif for roysha.

[–]matt01ss 2 points3 points ago

It's all good, it was his idea!

[–]roysha[S] 0 points1 point ago

This. I see this blew up a bit, and I thought I gave him props in my post, but apparently I fail at Redditing. Is there a way to add subtext to my post, after-the-fact? (other than comments)

[–]Muzilos 1 point2 points ago

You did fine, don't worry too much about it.

[–]pinkdeath 0 points1 point ago

upvote for using nathan fillion in a gif. also true story.

[–]PurpleFreezes 2 points3 points ago

You sir have nailed it on the head.

[–]phlid0r 1 point2 points ago

As a brit... Lehrer was fucking useless.

Watching the election debates in the UK in 2011, Dimbleby kept our tossers in check and ran the debate, and didn't let the rhetoric spew forth.

[–]tesnakeinurboot 1 point2 points ago

Welcome to America, where politicians are voted into office based solely on their rhetoric.

[–]GirIsKing 0 points1 point ago

anybody that down votes this should be shot!

its fucking AWESOME!!!!!!!!!!

[–]ItinerantDegenerate 7 points8 points ago

The irony is that by posting another gif about the debates you're beating a dead horse yourself.

[–]jsn0x 8 points9 points ago

I don't think the debates should be considered a 'dead horse' just yet, considering they happened less than 24 hours ago.

[–]StrewwelChris 4 points5 points ago

That's like a month in Internet time.

[–]LeFortIII 2 points3 points ago

Upvotes for everyone. You win the day, roysha.

[–]roysha[S] 1 point2 points ago

Haha thanks; have an upvote, yourself!

[–]Buckeyefan123 1 point2 points ago

Romney kicked ass last night

[–]roller_g 0 points1 point ago

kicked his own ass, on account of lying. you think we don't know? don't care?

bwah.ha.ha.

[–]nextplzzzz 0 points1 point ago

Is it just me or does it feel like it doesn't even matter any more who we choose? Its the same old shit

[–]Neckbeardo 0 points1 point ago

Upvoted for nathan fillion. Content irrelevant.

[–]The_Last_Melon14 1 point2 points ago

Was I the only one who watched pawn stars instead of the debate?

[–]Imcheysigshearmeroar 1 point2 points ago

Anything with Firefly in it gets my upvote. <3

[–]ty8l8er 1 point2 points ago

Oh my god, that bottom gif is perfect for Lehrer.

[–]ronnyman123 0 points1 point ago

I liked to think of it like this

[–]mellie428 -1 points0 points ago

I am sure Lehrer went home and had a very large drink after that debate.

[–]RockHardRetard 0 points1 point ago

Third party candidate:...

[–]Foley1 1 point2 points ago

The deadly triple .gif

[–]PandasNeedTivo2 1 point2 points ago

I wish I could give more than one upvote for this...

[–]mrhandyman 0 points1 point ago

That was what the American public media call a debate?

I thought it was a build up to the real thing or something...

[–]tesnakeinurboot 0 points1 point ago

It really was nothing but a build up to the foreign policy debate tomorrow.

[–]nodoubt63 1 point2 points ago

An upvote for you for including Nathon Fillion

[–]conundrum4u2 1 point2 points ago

Spot on, old boy...(oh but Fox news says Romney CRUSHED it!) - what they should have to do, is hook these goofs up to a lie detector that shocks them every time they lie...:D

[–]DunkanBulk 0 points1 point ago

That was the best part about it was when they kept interrupting him.

[–]Gibodean 0 points1 point ago

Are there any decent objective online videos or blog articles I should read to get an idea about what happened last night and why Romney is seen to have won? But without having to watch the whole thing?

I'm an Aussie, so won't be seeing much on TV.. Perhaps I should just wait until tonight's Daily Show hits the torrents...

[–]DawnOfTheTruth 0 points1 point ago

I kept saying, that poor mediator.

[–]minnimaus 0 points1 point ago

Is that a horse, or a camel. Look at its little head...

[–]Flare2v 0 points1 point ago

Gotta love Firefly.

[–]MinerInconvenience -2 points-1 points ago

how can these debates every be anything else ?

do we really expect clear and honest dialog in a 1.5 hour timeframe ?

is it not more valuable to look at the history of people to determine their next move ?

you can SAY all you want about anything and change it around and appear well spoken and blah blah

but when we actually look at history, do we find you are being truthful ?

the answer for both men is a resounding meh, probably not

they both suck to some extent. again we have a choice between who sucks less and who sucks more.

its a shitty place to be in as a country.

I think Romney is full of shit and I think Obama is a pushover but last night's debate was a debacle of lies by the Romney camp and that is what concerns me more.

[–]proteus91 -3 points-2 points ago

Romney is full of shit? Then Obama is overflowing with shit... "Hmm lets say we'll cut the debt in half this term they will like that, But then we'll just double it! It will be funny!"

[–]RadtasticNinjaChick 4 points5 points ago

Both exaggerated a bit. Go look at nonpartisan fact checkers and what they have to say. I always check what they say before I'll believe it. Obama inherited the trillion debt, but didn't get it to go reduce like he said he would. On the other hand, Romney's plan ISN'T a five trillion-whatever tax cut. In fact his speech in that regard was so vague it's clear the amount of variables that still need to be determined to verify just how effective it would be. And as for this huge blow to Medicare that Obama's plan was supposed to have made, it is a projected overall decrease that would have occurred over an extended period of time, and Obamacare was supposed to fill in the gaps. I'm not supporting it, but I'm just stating the intentions and Romney's not-so-true exaggeration.

CNN is fairly unbiased compared to MSNBC and FOX (who are respectively biased left and right). You can read some of their stuff if you are interested. But of course double and triple check everything you read. Sources, sources, sources.

[–]TylerKeys -1 points0 points ago

The national debt is, in fact, that simple.

[–]GyantSpyder -3 points-2 points ago

Nah, Obama tries things and fails. Romney just lies and bullshits to get power.

[–]Linkenten 0 points1 point ago

Switch that around, Romney is a pushover and won't fight as hard as he should, Obama is full of shit.

[–]hairyotter 1 point2 points ago

DM;VFO

[–]beingpoliteisrude -1 points0 points ago

if only the guy representing Obama was sleeping.

[–]GruxKing -3 points-2 points ago

...But this isn't what happened, AT ALL. Large portions of the debate were completely new (the opposite of meaning of the phrase "beating a dead horse") because Romney so thoroughly reversed some of his positions.

This is an idiotic karma grab

[–]myusernameranoutofsp -1 points0 points ago

Also the phrase implies that the action isn't getting you anywhere. The candidates were both giving the types of responses that get them a lot of votes, which is exactly what they are/were aiming to do.

[–]GruxKing 0 points1 point ago

Yeah.

[–]roysha[S] 0 points1 point ago

Actually, it was, in my interpretation. For almost every "topic" they spoke on, the candidates went back & forth, back & forth, only rebutting what the last guy said by simply re-stating the same thing they said on their own last turn.

  • Obama: Statement A
  • Romney: You're wrong! Statement B!
  • Obama: Sorry, but you're wrong. You see, Statement A (slightly modified)
  • Romney: Nope, you're wrong! Clearly, Statement B (slightly modified)
  • <lather, rinse, repeat>

Thus, two dead horses continually being beaten. Also, I said "MY interpretation"...

Edit: Formatting

[–]GruxKing -3 points-2 points ago

If this is all that you gathered from the debate last night then I don't think that you were paying very much attention to everything else that was going on.

But then again, this is only just "my interpretation" ahahaha

[–]roysha[S] 0 points1 point ago

At what point did I say this was "all that I gathered from the debate last night"? I was simply explaining my use of the "dead horse" reference that you were slamming/didn't understand.

You sir, are a jackass, but I guess I shouldn't feed the trolls...keep laughin bud.

[–]FoundPie -1 points0 points ago

I think I finally understand Reddit:

  • Obama does well = WOW, ROMNEY SUCKS!! LOLOLOL
  • Romney does well = THEY PERFORMED EQUALLY BAD

[–]suckmynuts 1 point2 points ago

I'm so fresh you can suck my nuts.

[–]Deanz -1 points0 points ago

[–]blackadderV 0 points1 point ago

My take on Governer Romney's debating tactic

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nt80WURILGM

[–]Scarjaka -2 points-1 points ago

I didn't even watch the debate.

[–]strobelight317 0 points1 point ago

Well done sir...well done

[–]Ooblah21 -2 points-1 points ago

So basically you saw two guys whack off with sticks in their hands..?
