Perfect loop.

Nah, the smoke on the left is way off.

Holy shit it works

[–]thetoethumb 1 point2 points ago

I, too, can confirm that it works. Time to buy a slo-mo camera.

Is that really a vapor trail? I guess it could be molten/evaporated wax... always assumed it was smoke though.

[–]joshuad80 5 points6 points ago

Yes. It's vapor, which as you can see from sivadneb's definition, is also, as you rightly guessed, evaporated/unbuned wax.

I learned about this in my chem1100 (my school is too good for 100 level classes, so we have 1000 level classes for our freshman) class a couple years ago. Pretty neat.

Yeah, it's been 4-5 years since chem for me and now I'm in a completely different field. I kinda miss it sometimes.

va·por /ˈvāpər/

Noun:

A substance diffused or suspended in the air, esp. one normally liquid or solid: "dense clouds of smoke and toxic vapor".

[–]deadlyfalcon89 3 points4 points ago

Hm. Guess that's what happens when you assume.

[–]savagebeaver 2 points3 points ago

Assume- makes an "ass" out of "u" and "me"

The white smoke/vapor is actually gaseous wax.

[–]rebellion117 2 points3 points ago

Just tried this with a wind-proof grill lighter (the only lighter in the house). The compressed gas blew the smoke out of the way. I and my wife were disappointed.

There's a full explanation of how it works here.
