Oh God, we're fucked...

[–]coffeemug20 16 points17 points ago

If Obama or Romney were anywhere near that cute, I'd vote for both of them.

[–]AATroop 4 points5 points ago

Cuteness factor is the new anti-moustache instawin technique.

That back kick at the end was awesome.

I really like the hunger games one : "Scoobydoo"

[–]Haasts_Eagle 111 points112 points ago

As an outsider, with few preconceptions about Obama and Romney and a global indifference toward reddit's general opinion, I enjoyed watching the debate.

Mitt, ya did well mate.

[–]odysseus88 11 points12 points ago

Well the polling and independents would disagree with you. Even MSNBC thought it was a beat down.

Edit: Just saw the CNN poll for the debate. 65% saw Romney as the winner, 25% Obama. That's a landslide.

[–]kirkt 3 points4 points ago

IIRC it's the first time any candidate has scored over 60%.

[–]s-mores 24 points25 points ago

You have to admit he put on a good show.

[–]LupivTheGreat 12 points13 points ago

That was a presidential debate. Those are all about choosing the one who says the most bullshit.

But in all seriousness, Mitt kept attacking Obama, and Obama almost never punched back. That's probably the reason why everyone thinks Obama lost.

[–]Heartless_Tortoise 1 point2 points ago

Rewatching right now. I thought Obama attacked a fair bit, but he didn't come off as a man who has been president the last 4 years and knows he can handle another team. Romney timed his attacks VERY well and actually came off much clearer than Obama. He seemed like he knew exactly what he was doing, Obama seemed tired and wandered between topics. There were moments where Obama seemed poised to come back into it and tear Romney a new one but every time he choked, threw in a slightly relevant anecdote, and switched topics.

[–]octagonman 0 points1 point ago

That's strange because I felt it was the opposite. I admit I missed most of the debate (going back and forth for homework), but what I did see was alot of Obama reminding Mitt what he has been saying and Mitt replying with "actually, no, this is what I'm really trying to say." He seems to be changing his mind last minute. However, he did seem much more confident in his responses despite the fact that I felt he avoided most of the questions.

[–]thatTigercat 0 points1 point ago

No, the reason everyone thinks Obama lost is because he did, badly. I was surprised, I thought Obama was a better communicator, a better public speaker, but he looked like he couldn't order a happy meal without a teleprompter last night.

[–]RumpRanger69 5 points6 points ago

Oh yea Obama has a huge bag it's just filled with four years of shit..... vote Gary Johnson

[–]pop_fest420 40 points41 points ago

I wonder if you can just replace the titles of all /r/gif submissions with "A summary of the political debate".

[–]FatCashin 7 points8 points ago

WHAT IS THIS? A GIF FOR ANTS?!

[–]Stonna 22 points23 points ago

Those debates seriously need at least one other candidate.

[–]Timett_son_of_Timett 5 points6 points ago

it also hurt that they were allowed to interrupt each other and the moderator. I wish there were stricter time constraints and it wasn't just a yelling match.

[–]tehkyle5k 3 points4 points ago

They could use a moderator as well.

[–]dukerutledge 3 points4 points ago

Yeah, I was sad to see Jim Lehrer's performance. He was getting walked all over. Maybe it is time to retire.

[–]weezrsucks 0 points1 point ago

the live feed of gary johnson watching the debates and chimin in his point of view was pretty funny. i still couldnt watch it though, because he kept laughing a lot at the ridiculous things obomney kept saying, and Gary kept repeating the same things he always does, which isnt a bad thing.

[–]K1dn3yPunch 4 points5 points ago

Obomney is the new celebrity couple?

[–]beingpoliteisrude 56 points57 points ago

This would be more accurate if the one playing Romney was dropping bombs, he made Obama look like he has no clue.

Source?

[–]Naggers123 11 points12 points ago

saw it on /r/gullible

[–]PuroMichoacan 22 points23 points ago

Well Romney kept flip-flopping on the issues.

Example:

Obama: Governor Romney wants to do "________".

Romney: No I don't.

Obama: You said this last week.

Romney: That's not true, am for it.

It made Obama look like he didn't know what he was talking about. Granted Obama was not aggressive enough to point out the lies and just let them thru.

[–]WindmillLancer 20 points21 points ago

Obama's strategy was to discuss the issues, but Romney's strategy was to make Obama look stupid. It was the little stuff - the way he bulled through both Obama's statements and the moderator's, gently talking down to Obama like a child, acting incredulous of anything Obama said and dismissing it as ridiculous. Romney came across as very confident and made Obama seem vaguely misinformed, but by the end of it I couldn't tell you one thing about his platform.

[–]burndogy 4 points5 points ago

You described it just as like I would have. Romney was aggressive, he was tenacious, and he won the debate. Obama has a few debates to make up for this, but he'll have to not be passive at all.

[–]beingpoliteisrude 0 points1 point ago

"the lies" you are going to need to expand just a little.

[–]PuroMichoacan 8 points9 points ago

1). Mitt Romney claims he is not cutting taxes for the wealthy

Romney actually began the debate completely reinventing his tax plan. Romney claimed that his tax plan isn’t a $5 trillion tax cut. However, yesterday his own running mate Paul Ryan touted Romney’s 20% tax cut across the board.

Ryan said, “And so what we’re saying is, we’re going to lower tax rates for everybody across the board by 20%, and we can pay for that without losing revenue by closing loopholes for people at the top end of the income scale. Everybody gets lower tax rates as a result. And you can keep these preferences for middle class taxpayers and have 20% lower tax rates.”

2). Romney claimed his tax plan doesn’t raise taxes on the middle class

Mitt Romney used some funny math to claim that his plan doesn’t raise taxes on middle class. However, the Tax Policy Center found that Romney’s plan, “The report by the centrist Tax Policy Center found that Romney’s tax cuts would boost after-tax income by an average of 4.1 percent for those earning more than $1 million a year, while reducing by an average of 1.2 percent the after-tax income of individuals earning less than $200,000.”

3). Romney claimed that Obama would increase taxes on the top 3% of “small businesses.”

Romney used some dubious statistics to claim that Obama would raise taxes on small businesses. What Romney didn’t tell the voters is that he and the Republican Party have a unique definition of small business. Washington Monthly explored the GOP definition of small business, “Many of those 750,000 small businesses aren’t small at all. Some, like Bechtel Corporation, are positively enormous. The Democratic and Republican figures come from the non-partisan Joint Committee on Taxation. But numerous think tanks and government organizations have examined the data and come to similar conclusions: First, that letting the Bush tax cuts on the top two brackets of “small-business” income would impact a tiny percentage of those businesses; and second, that many of the “small businesses” that would be impacted are actually giant companies — which explains why such a tiny fraction of them can account for half of small business income.”

4). Romney says oil subsidies go to small companies

Romney tried to sell the subsidies for Big Oil as going to small natural gas and coal companies. The truth is that $2.8 billion in subsidies go to the five biggest oil companies. Bil Oil is also allowed to write off all of their drilling costs.

5). Romney said getting rid of the Bush tax cuts will kill jobs

Mitt Romney claimed that if the Bush tax cuts expire for the wealthiest Americans, it will kill jobs. Forbes debunked this myth and concluded that, “But the GOP meme suggesting that tax cuts equals jobs while, conversely, tax increases on the so-called “job creators” mean less work for the rest of us, simply does not survive any reasonable scrutiny. Putting more money in the pockets of the wealthy may create a few jobs for the foreign bankers who get to count the extra money funneled into into the off-shore accounts of the rich, but there is nothing in the way of actual data to support the notion that putting more money into the pockets of the wealthiest Americans will inure to the benefit of those looking for work.”

[–]hibbity 1 point2 points ago

I work with Bechtel guys all the time, that company is positively huge and hugely profitable as well.

[–]DutchPrisoner 1 point2 points ago

Yes, Informed voters were like "Romney's not really winning because he's just talking bullshit." Uninformed (and in many cases undecided) voters were like "wow, Obama doesn't know what he's talking about and Romney is so confident and on my side."

Next debate Obama has to call that shit out. The problem being that the live debate format is not conducive to fact-checking. I suspect that the Romney campaign is doing this on purpose "say a bunch of shit that makes you sound like your policies are centrist. We've already stated anyway that we don't really care about fact-checking anyway."

[–]kraljaca 41 points42 points ago

The fact that one kid is dressed in red and the other in blue really just makes this video even more relevant and awesome

[–]Naggers123 17 points18 points ago

That lady has her Jim Lehrer impression nailed.

[–]Afarian 3 points4 points ago

This and all presidential debates need an aggressive moderator that isn't afraid to tell them to "STFU, YOUR 2 MIN ARE UP! Next topic is...."

[–]LarryTheSatelliteGuy 63 points64 points ago

Did you watch the debate? Or any of the analysis after at least? Even James Carville said Obama got dominated in that debate. This is a funny, albeit overused, gif but it really has no correlation to the debate.

[–]verygoodyear 7 points8 points ago

And the instructor is the media, staring intently, analysing the inaction before them.

[–]cebullgator 34 points35 points ago

Obama sounded like a retard with all the stuttering and uh's.

Romney was hitting on all cylinders and kicking Obama's butt last night.

[–]DutchPrisoner 21 points22 points ago

Let's be clear that Romney was winning the body language war and the "sounding confident war" -- the performance war. He was not winning the battle based on facts nor based on a workable, sensible, sustainable, and consistent platform. So much of what Romney said contradicts his platform. And so much of his talk on "I'm won't have to cut any programs or raise any taxes if middle class voters don't like it..." is just patently impossible. Obama didn't do such a good job of fighting back, but then when your opponent is basically cheating, what do you do? It's like they're in a boxing match and Romney took the gloves off, except that taking the gloves off is illegal. A boxing match, like a debate, depends on some basic rules. In the debate, one of those rules is that you're expected to actually debate on your record and on a platform that has basis in reality. Romney seems to have decided that the undecided voters he's seeking are low information voters who will vote on their gut feelings about how confident he sounds, not on whether his platform is workable. I'd like to think the next month will continue to involve a process of fact-checking Romney and letting independent voters know which candidate is being forthright. It's not realistic to expect that Obama can fact-check and bullshit-check Romney on the fly.

Were the pads really necessary?

[–]sneakybigfootmoan 29 points30 points ago

It may look harmless to the untrained eye, but the reality is that each one of those hits are actually death blows.

[–]nwsreddit 11 points12 points ago

My father was killed by a vicious spinning back kick just like the one we see here.

[–]abenton 5 points6 points ago

i am truley sorry for your lots

[–]slipperyfist 0 points1 point ago

Were the pads really necessary?

It's more to get them used to wearing the pads, so it doesn't feel weird when they're older and actually making contact. But this is a very low age and skill level to be starting that, so it's probably a little bit about the money.

[–]8195229 2 points3 points ago

Look at all those "Zingers".

[–]imsweetinreality 2 points3 points ago

Call it a hunch, but I don't think Dookyberries listened to the debate with CC or the volume on

[–]bobdog40 3 points4 points ago

What debate were you watching?

[–]K1dn3yPunch -1 points0 points ago

Probably the one on every channel.

Hardly. Red Team landed some pretty heavy blows. Blue team stuttered, paused, and capitulated.

I took this debate about as seriously as I take Jersey Shore.

Haha, not really. I take it you haven't watched the debate.

[–]oliverMcMayonnaise -3 points-2 points ago

I'm pretty sure if you listened to it, Romney best the hell out of Obama. And I'm a Lib. We have no legs to stand on anymore. Those were the most important questions coming up and again and I will be voting Romney because I'm a realist.

[–]DutchPrisoner 5 points6 points ago

Huh? Romney lied through his teeth, making promises about not cutting anything that he can't possibly keep. I mean come on man, go to a fact-checking site and check out Romney's claims. Before the debate he was making so many promises that are literally impossible, hiding behind the fact that he has no record. And you're buying it?

Here's a pretty good discussion of some major issues with some of Romney's statements: http://articles.boston.com/2012-10-03/opinion/34214078_1_tax-cuts-romney-backs-mitt-romney/2

Also, how are you a lib and voting for Romney? Does not compute.

[–]kampfy3 3 points4 points ago

The only people I've ever seen use the term "lib" is conservatives. Nice try, astroturfer.

[–]nobanker -5 points-4 points ago

This thread is full of butt-hurt Romney loving downvoters....

[–]Devin3m 1 point2 points ago

Not really. I hate Romney, but all the people being downvoted as they should. They're trying to justify Obamas complete and utter defeat last night. Glad to see the hive mind take a realistic route for once.

[–]DutchPrisoner 2 points3 points ago

Obama was beaten based on projected confidence by both candidates. Obama was not beaten on the basis of a discussion based on ideas grounded in reality. Lying often comes off as very confident (and in this debate format, very hard to quickly rebuff).

[–]quarktheduck 1 point2 points ago

I feel like if I were Obama, I'd be pretty confused about all of Romney's "facts" as well. All of the pauses and "um"s where most likely just his way of keeping himself from saying "are you shitting me right now?"

[–]DutchPrisoner 1 point2 points ago

Exactly. It's not really realistic to expect Obama to live-factcheck while he's also presenting his plans. He would have spent the entire debate talking about what Romney just said and potentially could come off worse, sounding like a whiner.

I think Obama was literally put into a no-win situation when Romney essentially decided to say a bunch of bullshit and Obama was like "I hope everyone understands he's digging his own grave here."

[–]Aintthatcute -3 points-2 points ago

Obama is the one in the blue doing that little gay back kick
