You could also just type in what you're looking for in the addressbar.

[–]Danny_Bomber 4 points5 points ago

You saved a lot of time by leaving out the second 'd'

[–]Liranai 5 points6 points ago

It actually took me more time to think about how it should be written in English. Dutch people just write it as 'adres'.

[–]ericskiba 12 points13 points ago

you could be using chrome and skip that step altogether

[–]poleethman 6 points7 points ago

Also, press 33 on the microwave instead of 30. You can just stop the microwave at 30.

[–]LBK2013 6 points7 points ago

or get chrome and never type google again.

Don't cook 30 minute brownies at 450 degrees, cook 1 minute brownies at 13,500 degrees!

Wow, I was skeptical at first. Then I tried it...

and...

omg

Type "Google" then press Ctrl + Enter

I usually just click the home button.

This can easily be dated to 2009.

Step 1) Press CONTROL+L in your browser to focus on the address bar

Step 2) Type your search and hit enter

Step 3) Quit wasting your fucking time typing gogle.com

alt+d is faster

[–]hmmwhattoputhere 1 point2 points ago

If that millionth of a millionth of a millionth of a millionth of a second means that much to you, I think you need some better time management.

[–]xFarce 1 point2 points ago

Or download Google Chrome.

[–]89rovi 1 point2 points ago

It hasn't always been that way, around ~2008-09 if you typed that in, it brought you to one of those scam sites.

[–]triit 1 point2 points ago

My wife still types "www." despite my constant harassment... I'm thinking this extra keystroke savings ain't gonna go down much better.

edit: formatting

she's right for many websites - the "www" domain name can be a cname, which can point to a geo-locating DNS name, which can be faster/more reliable than the @ record (the "bare name" without www in front is referred to as the @ record in a DNS zone record)

for example: $ dig +short reddit.com 64.211.144.177 64.211.144.178 $ dig +short www.reddit.com reddit.com.edgesuite.net. a659.b.akamai.net. 23.63.226.193 23.63.227.17

as you can see the IPs are different for www versus not www - this can make a big difference in response time if (a) the dns record is cached for you and (b) the host uses.

For an example of a host where typing the @ record doesn't work AT ALL, check nasa.gov. There was a nasa blog post about why it doesn't work recently.

BTW, OP is actually wrong - google.com's DNS record is always cached because it's used so often, so the "milliseconds" you save by not repeating the o are taken back in orders of magnitude because gogle.com is usually not cached at your local DNS server level. That means your local DNS server has to do at least one internet round trip which takes typically between 50 to 500ms to look up the gogle.com record.

Bitchplz, I use chrome.

[–]wildfire250 1 point2 points ago

Does anybody have a link for the reggie rant

[–]wintrparkgrl 0 points1 point ago

[–]adikid89 0 points1 point ago

Doesn't the redirecting take more time than typing that extra 'o'? Besides I type google so often I only have to type g then enter.

Also you can use shortcuts on chrome; For instance I have 'g' set to google.com, so that I type 'g' then 'Space' and a search query. Or just type a search query and you're golden(also on chrome proly foxy too).

[–]IDidntChooseUsername 2 points3 points ago

On Chrome, you can type your search right i the address bar. You don't need to press "g" then tab, just type the search into the bar and press enter. You can change the default search engine in the settings, it's Google by default.

If you have a lot of extra time on your hands, https://www.goooogle.com/ works as well.
