Am i the only one surprised that he just bitchslapped a fucking bear!?

[–]GuilleX 58 points59 points ago

If you live/interact with an animal that can maul your ass to oblivion, you can never, EVER let the animal take control. What the bear did there was something that he is not supposed to do, and the guy just had to show him who is the boss. If he didn't, the next time the bear will try to push the limit a little further... and nobody wants a bear in control of any situation (except from a monocycle).

[–]Dorky_Panda 19 points20 points ago

My dad used to tell me that when I was kid. He used to breed German Shepherds and help train them for police officers. When he would leave me alone with the younger dogs who still were not trained he told me to bite their ears if they got out of hand. Ive done this with all of my dogs to put them in their place. It sounds weird, but it helps to teach them that im the boss. All it takes is a soft nip and they calm down.

[–]fancy-chips 23 points24 points ago

I did this as well with my new puppy. the problem is that they might start to imagine you as another puppy to play with. Puppies play fight all the time. Then shit gets real when they're 90Lbs and they still think you're their puppy play friend

[–]Dorky_Panda 9 points10 points ago

lol I never had that problem thankfully. Would be funny though since im super tiny.

[–]WanderingStoner 4 points5 points ago

I had my ear pierced by a great dane when was younger. When it was small it wasn't a problem but those things get huge.

The dog was later put down for biting it's owner's eye. Sad...

[–]ycnz 1 point2 points ago

Crane technique. Works every time.

[–]alphawolf29 0 points1 point ago

I had a 160 pound rottweiler when I was 10. I can confirm.

[–]ThrowAwayAcct0000[!] 3 points4 points ago

My sister did this (she works with sled-pulling dogs) and the dog bit her back in the face.

[–]CassandraVindicated 3 points4 points ago

That is the traditional downside to putting your face next to a dogs.

[–]nitefang 2 points3 points ago

I swear to god this works. We had a small husky that was rather nippy. One time she nipped my finger while we were playing and I bit her ear. She still plays but she doesn't bite. She was also a lot more obediate after that.

We still had to give her away though, we moved to a place with no fences and huskies can be the least loyal thing on the planet, and she proved this every time we opened the front door at our old place.

[–]AAlsmadi1 0 points1 point ago

hah, once when i was younger we used to live in a shed (family of 7, one bedroom, one bathroom, one kitchen, anyways). one day this dog shows up at our door (sliding glass) and we got to play and chill with him for a few days, until his owner found him in front of our house lol. good times.

[–]TheGreatL 1 point2 points ago

Along the same lines, when a puppy is playing around it tends to have no understanding of the pressure of their bites so what we always did was press the sides of their mouth in when they are play biting so they feel how hard they bite. It works wonders and they quickly learn to adjust and associate that feeling with you. No resentment just a clear understanding.

[–]isofat 1 point2 points ago

If the bear had dug his claws or even used just a little more pressure, the guy could have gotten his arm completely mauled.

[–]kellogn2 1 point2 points ago

[–]GuilleX 1 point2 points ago

That's right.

[–]Aperfectmoment 0 points1 point ago

the same is true with humans.

As much as we'd like to think otherwise

[–]nodnarbiter 0 points1 point ago

*unicylce (unless you actually meant a monocycle which is a motorized wheel you sit in...)

[–]nightrida 2 points3 points ago

Yeah it looks like he got the guy pretty good as well. I know those claws probably are not dull.

[–]PoonHunter5 8 points9 points ago

Ballsy move.

[–]ArianFosterThePeople 19 points20 points ago

The bear is tame because of the dick moves. (No I'm not referring to bear rape)

[–]kirkby18 3 points4 points ago

You should check out this guys documentary. Every year he leaves his wife for a couple of months to go live with the bears. Seriously, youd think hed get eaten but he just strides right up to these bears and not one of the fuckers mauls him! The guy actually acts surprised if a bear gets a bit pissy at him.

I guess if you act with enough confidence most creatures just assume your supposed to be there.

[–]Ruckusleaf 2 points3 points ago

Until you run into a sociopath bear, like that guy in alaska who lived with bears, then you get torn all the fuck to pieces, and they find about 2/5ths of you.

[–]kirkby18 0 points1 point ago

I saw that documentary too (hu i never knew i was such a fan of the whole nutcase+bear combo) and that fucker had it coming! He was like.. ever weirder than this guy. All jittery and shit. I swear i remember him saying in his documentary that if he was going to die hed like it to be by bears though. Its been years since i saw it so dont quote me on that

[–]great_gape 0 points1 point ago

Ya and this is a takein after

[–]tylerdhurdon 0 points1 point ago

Imagine witnessing this while blackout on vacation. According to my friends, when they came back to the house all I could say was "HOLY SHIT BEARS!! FUCKING BEARS MAN!!! WHAT THE FUCK" over and over.

[–]bgbritt1015 0 points1 point ago

I was the first time I saw this!

[–]kpredweb 17 points18 points ago

[–]noxert323 0 points1 point ago

By god, I think he's got it!

[–]kpredweb 5 points6 points ago

A retired teacher named Charlie Vandergaw who spends about 6 months every year living in a remote cabin he built. He really, really loves bears and over the years he has fed them and taken care of them and the satiated bears succumb to Charlie's affections, following him on walks, allowing him to pet them and even let him sit beside them. But in Alaska it is illegal to feed bears, and while Charlie has been doing it for 20 years, the authorities eventually start to get on his case... and I'll leave it at that. Do check it out, it really is incredible seeing him coexisting so peacefully with these formidable beasts!

EDIT: A man who lives with bears.

[–]TheKamenWriter 3 points4 points ago

It's stories like this that really make me sad. On the one hand it feels good to see a man and an animal interacting with such apparent affection. It brings to mind Dogs, horses, and cats. Seeing pictures and reading stories about these types of interactions cause me to fantasize about taming a family of wild animals, and after many generations domesticating them, and having them be loving pets for mankind forevermore.

But then on the other hand I know in my head that this fantasy is just that, a fantasy. These animals weren't designed to interact with Humans in this way, and once the man leaves his cabin, the bears in the area will be stuck having learned bad lessons about interacting with humans. The bears won't fear humans, causing them to wander into campsites with not a care in the world, probably causing panic and ending inevitably with either a poor camper getting mauled or a poor bear getting shot.

tl;dr: I wish I could forget that bears are wild animals so I could do something like this without feeling guilty. :(

[–]D-Aton 13 points14 points ago

Are you planning to maul your father someday?

[–]WalterDisneey[S] 9 points10 points ago

I don't think so.

[–]salec1 25 points26 points ago

That was not a funny response.

[–]synicalx1 1 point2 points ago

Yeah it was

[–]collystrings 44 points45 points ago

I would feel weird too if my dad was a different species.

[–]WalterDisneey[S] 24 points25 points ago

No, no, no. I'm the bear, pining after my father's affection.

[–]Drago12 30 points31 points ago

Yes.....and the father is human.... hence, a different species...... Get it?

[–]WalterDisneey[S] 85 points86 points ago

Oh, right. Sorry. Forgive my slow bear mind.

[–]Zagaholic 23 points24 points ago

Nice recovery

[–]synicalx1 3 points4 points ago

Not smarter than the average bear eh?

[–]21stCenturyNigger 3 points4 points ago

This joke was poorly thought out. Cool .gif though.

[–]WalterDisneey[S] 50 points51 points ago

You sound just like my father.

[–]Le_beans 5 points6 points ago

I HATED MY FATHER

[–]Jeezum_Crepes 7 points8 points ago

[–]Le_beans 2 points3 points ago

[–]saberus 1 point2 points ago

Watched this movie last night....spooooooky.....

[–]bewbsrkewl 1 point2 points ago

How do you know that's not what collystrings meant? From either perspective the dad would be a different species.

[–]jcas3131 0 points1 point ago

Are you saying your father bitchslaps you all the time!?

[–]critercat 7 points8 points ago

Are you the bear or the man?

[–]WalterDisneey[S] 14 points15 points ago

the bear. the sad bear.

[–]critercat 10 points11 points ago

[–]chemispe 50 points51 points ago

Those must be some pretty strong jeans to hold in balls that big.

[–]burnsz11 5 points6 points ago

Does your father not approve of your "dancing" career?

[–]RageHippo 5 points6 points ago

You're a bear?

[–]WalterDisneey[S] 3 points4 points ago

Apparently.

[–]Strudel_Cutie_4427 22 points23 points ago

A-bear-ently

[–]WalterDisneey[S] 1 point2 points ago

Brilliant.

[–]gingerlemon 1 point2 points ago

This needs to be said more.

[–]notashleyjudd 4 points5 points ago

[–]SomeDudeFromJersey 0 points1 point ago

It was the start of his long-lasting love affair with bears.

Not the choice of words I would've used.

[–]LtCthulhu 2 points3 points ago

I can feel the gravity pulling me towards that man's massive balls.

[–]SgtCracker308 2 points3 points ago

I keep watching it...waiting for the bear to strike back...but he never does

[–]sophiemisfit 2 points3 points ago

I wanna give you a hug :(

[–]readonlyuser 2 points3 points ago

This /r/funny post took a /r/depressing turn.

[–]lYossarian 2 points3 points ago

The funny thing is the bear is using its claws and the man appropriately responds. The bear doesn't realize the damage it can do and the man has to make a creature of lesser intelligence behave a certain way based on motives it can't understand.

Still sound like your relationship with your father?

[–]bumblebeesscareme 0 points1 point ago

Someone, post a video of this.

[–]DrPingu76 0 points1 point ago

Grabbing something without asking would have earned me an atomic slap from my West Indian mother, she hates bad manners. I cannot figure out if that guy knows the bear, is brave or reeeeeally stupid.

[–]justinsayin 0 points1 point ago

Just you and me little bear....

[–]TAC0001 0 points1 point ago

I hope you're the bear in this metaphor.

[–]ktotheooter 1 point2 points ago

So one day you end up mauling and killing your dad. Nice.

[–]llcbdavis 0 points1 point ago

i hope the bear ate him later

[–]Porglim 0 points1 point ago

My dad and I have more of a Zapp Brannigan/ Kif thing going

[–]EnsoElysium 0 points1 point ago

There's that too.

[–]omnilynx 0 points1 point ago

You really shouldn't hit your father. He's just trying to show you love.

[–]iseered22 0 points1 point ago

people that live with bears like this scare me. They're crazy that they think its ok and that they're "helping" the animal, it's not natural! hope he gets eaten

[–]pandahavoc 0 points1 point ago

Well, your dad really shouldn't paw at you like that.
