[–]somethingwittier 133 points134 points ago

Im not Canadian but this picture is incredible regardless.

[–]theofficialposter 70 points71 points ago

It is unique and beautiful... Makes me want to apologize to someone immediately.

[–]mikemcg 44 points45 points ago

Hey Redditors, can we have one thread related to Canadian things that doesn't involve this tired joke?

[–]Niflhe 17 points18 points ago

Without tired jokes, reddit would cease to be. In fact, I think complaining about tired jokes is a tired joke itself.

[–]mikemcg 5 points6 points ago

Complaints aren't jokes, they're two different things.

[–]DerpHog 1 point2 points ago

Yet another day saved by Captain Obvious! swoon

[–]mikemcg 3 points4 points ago

Evidently I had to play the part what with Niflhe calling complaints jokes.

[–]BICEPS 7 points8 points ago

Seriously, it's just not funny anymore. Same with Australian upside down jokes. Those times are over, just let it die already

[–]y_scro_serious 3 points4 points ago

Insert upside down "Sorry"

[–]karo_syrup 10 points11 points ago

˙ʎɹɹos

[–]y_scro_serious 3 points4 points ago

It's... beautiful

[–]mikemcg -2 points-1 points ago

I hear you. Really, just all canned country specific responses.

[–]Tuldah -1 points0 points ago

Yeah, for serious. I mean, no one is allowed to find this stuff funny anymore, amirite? /sarcasm

[–]mikemcg -3 points-2 points ago

Do you listen to Dane Cook albums back to back for days on end? I mean, this is basically the exact same thing.

[–]Liefx 0 points1 point ago

It's not really a joke.

[–][deleted] 0 points1 point ago

That you know of.

[–]mikemcg 0 points1 point ago

I just say joke because it's honestly the easiest word to use.

[–]Valdrec 0 points1 point ago

Sure, as soon as we cut out the wonky teeth Brit jokes, or the Fat American jokes or... yeah that's not going to happen.

[–]GringoDeMaio 0 points1 point ago

sorry...

[–]mikemcg 3 points4 points ago

[–]DFGdanger 0 points1 point ago

Nope, that's not 'just sorry', it's sorry with an ellipsis.

[–]mikemcg 1 point2 points ago

I don't know why I didn't include the ellipsis because it's more often than not that the reply is "sorry..."

[–]GringoDeMaio 0 points1 point ago

hahaha I'd apologize for being predictable but...you know...

[–]Tommassive -3 points-2 points ago

Go fuck yourself mikemcg.

-A Canadian

[–]mikemcg 0 points1 point ago

Nope.

- A Canadian.

[–]jelde 3 points4 points ago

it's rare when I lol from comments, but dating a Canadian this got me. I made a similar joke today to her when walking through a gate. Someone else was walking through from the other side at the same time. He had to open the gate for himself anyway but I said thanks, then later I said to her "you know I didn't really have to say thanks because he was opening it for himself. I'll have to watch out or I'll sound too Canadian."

[–]platypus_bear 0 points1 point ago

yeah but he could have gone through right away instead of letting you go.

unless he did do that

[–]jelde 1 point2 points ago

well we walked through the gate at almost the same time, he just got there just ahead of me, and the gate hadn't closed itself by then. he didn't really do anything!

[–]Fruppelkungen 70 points71 points ago

Am I the only one seeing a scary clown face? D:

[–]anonyswe 37 points38 points ago

Now you aren't.

[–]loevenzaan 0 points1 point ago

it's a conspiracy. Just like the Queen's hair on the $20 bill has a devil's face in it.

[–]hzgo 0 points1 point ago

For those having trouble seeing the face, the red on the side is the hair and the leaf is the nose.

[–]TheLoneHoot 0 points1 point ago

Thumbnail alone was enough for me. I saw that, came in here, ctrl+F "clown"... boom.

Freaky thumbnail.

[–][deleted] ago

[deleted]

[–]tofagerl 6 points7 points ago

I immediately saw a swastika...

[–]paulthepenguin 4 points5 points ago

That's just because this was done in Swastika, Ontario.

[–]ryan2point0 1 point2 points ago

I grew up in Ontario. Never heard of this town.

ಠ_ಠ

[–]Moncion 1 point2 points ago

Haha, I live near there. It surely does exist, although it was named before the negative association with swastikas.

[–]dryingrack 0 points1 point ago

Turn it into a window then

[–]Flailwielder 8 points9 points ago

They're ALL Canadian down here!

[–]reflion 3 points4 points ago

Yeah, I thought it was Pennywise at first. [shudder]

[–]Jpsla 2 points3 points ago

No...I started thinking "IT"....now I go cry....

[–]vnkid 2 points3 points ago

Iron helps us play.

[–]wcdude18 0 points1 point ago

Nope. So much for sleep tonight.

... Mr. Marbles? ...

[–]pgsgdd 0 points1 point ago

only from the thumbnail but I can't make out an expression

[–]happyviolentine 0 points1 point ago

came here to say exactly the same :-)

[–]rocketsurgery 0 points1 point ago

That's the only way to look at it.

[–]apostrotastrophe 0 points1 point ago

As soon as I opened the picture... scary clown! scary clown!!!

I don't even have a clown phobia... or at least, I didn't use to.

[–]icemancometh 68 points69 points ago

I feel like we canadians over-saturate reddit, upvoting "sorry" jokes because we're just so thrilled to see someone even mention Canada on the internet. I feel bad about it! But I can't apologize BECAUSE THAT'S THE PROBLEM!

[–]c_hand 19 points20 points ago

Honestly, it is just new redditors who are Canadians who post that, and new redditors from across the world who upvote it, because it is kinda funny the first couple times you see the joke... as it is a stereotype. But once you've seen it enough, you just ignore it. Let them make the joke, who cares if it has been done, for all we know they never heard it before:)

Also, I think your assessment is unfair with being "just so thrilled to see someone even mention Canada" because honestly, Reddit has a SHITLOAD of Canadian content on the main subreddits, and elsewhere. Did you know Canadians logged more hours online than any other country in the world last year? The more you know;)

[–][deleted] 12 points13 points ago

Canadians definitely do a lot of logging...

[–]Liefx 2 points3 points ago

With your wife..

[–]FCS34 1 point2 points ago

I clear cut that ho

[–]icemancometh 5 points6 points ago

Yeah! Hey, maybe it's a little empowering for us. The internet is finally somewhere Canadians are comfortable striking out and claim an international identity.

[–]c_hand 3 points4 points ago

Definitely! We can create an online army;)

[–]Higher_Primate 1 point2 points ago

NEXT STOP POLAND

[–]loevenzaan 1 point2 points ago

Lets do Hans Island, St. Pierre and Michelon first. They're closer.

[–]Higher_Primate 1 point2 points ago

I never heard of those places....but now that i do, i feel it is my duty to take those lands, in the name of the great maple leaf

[–]hypnoderp -1 points0 points ago

Where are you uncomfortable claiming an identity? I've taken to calling it "The Canadian Welcome" when I tell someone where I'm from and the whole atmosphere changes. It's an incredible feeling to know your compatriots have garnered this reputation for you. I always grin from ear to ear and try to uphold the reputation, you know, for the next Canuck to wander that way. I couldn't be more comfortable telling people.

[–]greenmass -2 points-1 points ago

This is the lamest thing I have ever heard. No one is suddenly changed by the appearance of a fucking Canadian. Get over yourself.

[–][deleted] ago

[deleted]

[–]greenmass 0 points1 point ago

What is he trying to say then? Enlighten me.

[–]iamaaronlol 0 points1 point ago

Honestly, it is just new redditors who are Canadians who post that, and new redditors from across the world who upvote it, because it is kinda funny the first couple times you see the joke... as it is a stereotype.

Or people trying to get on the karma-train.

[–]greenmass -3 points-2 points ago

This is what is said every time and it is not true. Nobody else is doing this. Look at the fucking Canadian national anthem above, if an American did that they would be eviscerated, but Canadians upvote it. The content that is created by Canadians is fucking shit, like this thread and everything else, how many fucking maple syrup stories and poutine references do we have to see. The only people mentioning Canada are other Canadians. Do you ever see someone call out Canada in a thread? It's always Dear Americans or Dear Australia.

[–]polyonymy 0 points1 point ago

I saw an infographic a while ago that pointed out that we spend the most time on reddit per person. I couldn't decide whether I was proud or disappointed.

[–]mikemcg 1 point2 points ago

God, I hope it isn't other Canadians upvoting those sorry "sorry" jokes because they're just so dumb at this point. It's nice to see some Canadian things on such an American dominated website, though. Another annoying thing is when people posting questions to AskReddit don't consider the rest of the world. "What do you hate most about your state?" Gee, would've been nice to answer that question but I don't live in the US.

oh say can you see, the dawn's early light has taken you from me.

edit: For clarification

[–]earlplural 18 points19 points ago

I stared for a while thinkin that the stuff in the middle were massive frosted mini wheats. And then I realized I'm stupid. And obviously still a little high.

[–]Gravee 4 points5 points ago

Don't feel bad. I'm sober and mostly intelligent; and I thought the same thing.

[–]Dynisis 1 point2 points ago

Might be the hardest I have ever laughed at a comment on here. Thank you!

[–]Grimmbles 0 points1 point ago

Sotally tober and this was my first thought as well.

[–]LWAW 13 points14 points ago

This is so Canadian that it hurts.

[–]Gatecrasher3 8 points9 points ago

single tear...

[–]frog_sounds 3 points4 points ago

False. The Canadian flag features the leaf of the sugar maple. What we see here are leaves from a red maple.

[–]desymond 2 points3 points ago

This post lost its magic when I noticed the same thing.

[–]CanadianBacon999 12 points13 points ago

As a Canadian living in the States, I love this

[–]VegasGeoff 9 points10 points ago

Another Canadian living in the States here. Immediately made it my desktop wallpaper. Well done.

[–]Liefx 4 points5 points ago

As a Canadian in Canada, I love it too.

[–]Vee_Vee 3 points4 points ago

Lol, if we were making American flags out of nature, Reddit would laugh its collective ass off.

[–][deleted] 2 points3 points ago

It's because the american flag looks like something you would paint on a racecar. I'm an anarchist, but the Canadian flag is pretty.

[–]ChicagoToad 3 points4 points ago

I'm an anarchist, but the Canadian flag is pretty.

Shit, that made me laugh.

[–]OpusThePenguin 8 points9 points ago

This is so damned Canadian I'm going to start pissing Maple syrup.

It's made me so patriotic tonight I'm going to go home and eat a beaver.

[–][deleted] 0 points1 point ago

...Sexy?

[–]loevenzaan 1 point2 points ago

speaking of which... $20 million worth of stolen maple syrup has been recovered !!

[–]funkmastamatt 1 point2 points ago

The one thing I miss about living up north is the vibrant change of leaves. We get two leaves in Texas: green and dead.

[–]d2baron 2 points3 points ago

Cool but out of all of those leafs, you pick the shittiest center leaf

[–]loevenzaan -5 points-4 points ago

Sorry bout that..., eh?

[–]loevenzaan 1 point2 points ago

very creative.

[–]bahookie 1 point2 points ago

That is fab :)

[–][deleted] 2 points3 points ago

I hope you didn't strip that bark off a tree.

[–]holynorth 1 point2 points ago

Texan here. What are these red leaves? I only know brown leaves. And a few days of green leaves.

[–]Menospan 1 point2 points ago

[–]HammerArch 1 point2 points ago

Nothing to see here... Just another bit of awesomeness via that paragon of awesome we call Canada

[–]WestCoastAmbitions 6 points7 points ago

I hope you don't mind, but thank you for my new facebook cover!

[–]dimmonkey 1 point2 points ago

That's beautiful.

[–]conal- 1 point2 points ago

that's a beautiful picture.

if you took that, well fuckin' done.

[–]AmboC 1 point2 points ago

There were frosted mini wheats laying around?

[–]DGDutch 1 point2 points ago

The wood looks like frosted mini-wheats.

[–]countchocula86 1 point2 points ago

Just put a huge grin on my face, thank you!

[–]TronaldMcDonald 0 points1 point ago

i live in jersey. if i tried to make one of these it would have to be out of garbage i found on the street

[–]i_need_downvotes_now 1 point2 points ago

Where did you find those giant Frosted Mini Wheats?

[–]urchant 1 point2 points ago

[–]Hohenems 2 points3 points ago

Also, the leaf in the picture is a red maple (Acer rubrum).
The leaf on the flag is a sugar maple (Acer saccharum).

[–]sgenius 1 point2 points ago

That pattern on the white somehow makes me think of the ornamental "L" used as logo for a character in the Death Note anime.

Why can't I upvote more than once?

[–]Pteranadaptor 1 point2 points ago

Frosted mini wheats do NOT count as surrounding materials!

[–]KibbyJimenez 0 points1 point ago

That's what i as thinking! Frosted Mini Wheats! Ahaha.

[–]MrPurpleNinja 0 points1 point ago

Where'd you find giant Mini-Wheats?

[–]Mikooo6 1 point2 points ago

Birch tree Bark, is fucking Beast, You can find the bark weeks after the inner part has rotten away. And an Excellent Fire starter

[–]JessJess143 1 point2 points ago

Way cool!

[–]Nilaats -1 points0 points ago

Thats not canada, OP lies.. there's no snow

[–]onederful 0 points1 point ago

[–]BiGNasty91_ 0 points1 point ago

Am I the only one who initially saw a swastika? Yes? No?...

[–]formad12 0 points1 point ago

I would like to see a Minecraft version of this.

[–]NPTVN 0 points1 point ago

What?! You're supposed to leave the weirwoods alone!

[–]RangodhSingh -1 points0 points ago

I didn't even know Canada had its own flag. Neat-o!

[–]nwtwozero 0 points1 point ago

Frosted mini wheats are laying around in nature in Canada? I'm so uneducated.

[–]econguy 0 points1 point ago

I notice your flag has red in it. Commie.

[–]amethystleaves 0 points1 point ago

the thumbnail looks like a really creepy clown to me.

[–]incredigirl 1 point2 points ago

Is it yours though? I spot a watermark bottom right! Well done if so!

[–]iamdawalrus 0 points1 point ago

It looks like It, the clown, from the thumbnail

[–]n00bskoolbus 0 points1 point ago

Good job fellow Canadian!

[–]laurenv85 1 point2 points ago

This brought a tear to my eye...

[–]mikeyboy028 0 points1 point ago

Canadian here, FUCKING AWESOME!!!

[–]IRSoup 0 points1 point ago

Neat picture, eh.

[–]mat967 0 points1 point ago

I really want to see this as a tattoo.

[–]ryan2point0 1 point2 points ago

No you don't.

The amount of small detail ensures that even if you could do it justice as a tattoo, it wouldn't stay that way for more then a few years.

[–]mat967 0 points1 point ago

I don't care about its durability, I just want to see the tattoo.

[–]sqazm 1 point2 points ago

Does....that say...."LE"?

[–]Higher_Primate 2 points3 points ago

well Canada is bilingual...

[–]jeffh4 0 points1 point ago

I read "L...E...Pi"

Looks like something by Andy Goldsworthy

http://www.miqel.com/random_images/fascinating-visual-chaos-9.html

Theres a movie called "Rivers and Tides" where he does this kind of art.

EDIT: Sorry, I'm too lazy to find a better link.

[–]PNDiPants 0 points1 point ago

This is absolutely beautiful.

[–]nubbinthemonkey 0 points1 point ago

wow cool, I didn't know the leaves turned so vividly red.

[–]BuzzBomber87 0 points1 point ago

Those...are some red leaves. We don't have those here in Texas. Our fall is not a graceful one...more like a leap from a skyscraper and a quick plummet to our death. And then WINTER!

[–]maximm -1 points0 points ago

Why did people downvote this?

[–]spider_cock 0 points1 point ago

Not everyone belives in nationalism and the state.

[–]maximm 0 points1 point ago

It's a nice picture and a really nice flag. Everything doesn't have to be about some issue just be happy :).

[–]spider_cock 0 points1 point ago

nice rose lenses too.

[–]under_the_gun23 1 point2 points ago

Birch trees like their bark, it hurts them to rip it off.

[–]maximm 1 point2 points ago

Could have been found on the ground. I wouldn't tear bark off either. We all teach that to our kids.

[–]StillWill 1 point2 points ago

White people.

[–]LeeLeeLove 0 points1 point ago

I saw the original picture when it was posted and today when I was walking to school I saw a bunch of maple leaves on the ground and thought about making my own! Your flag is beautiful!

[–]Shynquiet1986 0 points1 point ago

That's beautiful

[–]hypnoderp 0 points1 point ago

this is. . . fucking fantastic. And as a Canadian who spent awhile as an expat, you've done a solid for all those overseas or stateside showing their appreciation for this. . . I remember welling up a little on Canada day just thinking about my country back home - this would have been so awesome to have.

[–]TheTurtleWhisperer 0 points1 point ago

The deep shadows between the pieces of birch bark give the image a 3-dimensional quality, but also suggest the white and red parts are rising out of the darkness - yet in an incomplete way. It's an image of tired triumph, the victor slumped on one knee yet still waving his flag

[–]tenurbnor 1 point2 points ago

Canada, BIRCH!

[–]YouCriedWolf 1 point2 points ago

Unreal! Canadian as fuck!

[–]FCS34 0 points1 point ago

What a great way to commemorate Syrup Reserve Recovery Day !

[–]TheChosenDunlop -1 points0 points ago

Thank you very much for the new screen saver :) this is beautiful! Go Canada!

[–]SasparillaTango -1 points0 points ago

and now I have replaced the "Natural Canadian flag" with this as my new wallpaper! Thanks!

[–]dgd765 -1 points0 points ago

It's so beautiful, go Canada go

[–]snowshoetherapy -1 points0 points ago

Just took my breath away. You are a true artist.

[–]jeni_cote -1 points0 points ago

This is gorgeous.

[–]theonly_brunswick -1 points0 points ago

This is a great picture. I'm always so proud of being a Canadian, but little things like being able to emulate our flag from tree branches and leaves is a small part of why our country, despite being viewed as simple, it truly a great place.

[–]bingeverything -1 points0 points ago

Nothing of importance here, but I simply can not wait until I can move there (from US) and become a citizen!

[–]another_brick -1 points0 points ago

OOOH CAAANADAAAAAA!

[–][deleted] -1 points0 points ago

You must have spent hours working in photoshop to make those colors look like that.

[–]RoninSherwin -1 points0 points ago

Ooooh Canada, our home and native land.
