Rules

  1. No screenshots, or pictures with added or superimposed text. This includes image macros, comics, info-graphics and most diagrams. Text (e.g. a URL) serving to credit the original author is exempt.

  2. No gore or porn. NSFW content must be tagged.

  3. No personal information. This includes anything hosted on Facebook's servers, as they can be traced to the original account holder. Stalking & harassment will not be tolerated.

  4. No solicitation of votes (including "cake day" posts), posts with their sole purpose being to communicate with another redditor, or [FIXED] posts. DAE posts go in /r/DoesAnybodyElse. "Fixed" posts should be added as a comment to the original image.

  5. Submissions must link directly to a specific image file or to an image hosting website with minimal ads. We do not allow blog hosting of images ("blogspam"), but links to albums on image hosting websites are okay. URL shorteners are prohibited.

  • If your submission appears to be filtered but definitely meets the above rules, please send us a message with a link to the comments section of your post (not a direct link to the image). Don't delete it as that just makes the filter hate you!

  • If you come across any rule violations, please report the submission or message the mods and one of us will remove it!

Please also try to come up with original post titles. Submissions that use certain clichés/memes will be automatically tagged with a warning.

I think wasps should be the ones that die when they sting you. Wasps are bastards.

Except, nature is a bitch and nothing work the way we want it to.

[–]MichaelShelton 5 points6 points ago

Why, why does it leave it's lower ass in the person so it can die. It sure showed whatever it stung! Fuck with me and I'll die.

so, the theory here, is that bee's are "usually" attacking other insects. they DON'T leave their stinger behind in other insects. (wasps, hornets, etc)

and if it has to sting an animal, it's too small to do any real damage with only one little sting. how can an organism sting fend off something thousands of times it's size? venom. How can a small organism ensure that most of it's venom enters it's huge enemy? by leaving the entire venom sack. The evolutionary driving force is called "kin selection" (rather than say... natural or sexual selection). The idea behind this kin selection is this: bees are very closely related. If one, or ten bee's (in a colony of thousands) die defending the nest, and are successful, the likely-hood of the genes they posses (which the queen also possesses) being passed on is significantly greater than if they let the queen die.

Basically, worker bees do not reproduce. So when there is danger to their hive, they attack the intruder, and leave behind the barbed stinger, this stinger and the venom sack stay into the predator, and releases the toxins. Honey Worker Bees to not reproduce, so this is a way for them to protect those in the hive that do. Most bees do not attack unless you are close to their hive. There is also a pheromone that releases from the venom. which drive the other bees to attack. Just like Macaulay Culkin's character in 'My Girl.
