There is a heck of a list on Wikipedia, but they aren't all listed by mark number, especially not a mark 47 or XLVII.

In the first movie while designing the the suit he is talking to JARVIS that is how he responds to seeing an all gold rendering of the suit.

Well, IIRC, stark (in the comics) has a ton of versions of his armor in reserve for certain needs, as he's rich, a futurist, and because he can. There are several (half-assed, in my opinion) times where they just have all his armors do a beat down on a tough bad guy.

Checking IMDB reveals that Don Cheadle is credited as James Rhodes/War Machine. Although who trusts IMDB as of today?

They sold the movie rights to a lot of their characters before they started making their own movies. That's why you see so many spiderman movies, if they don't make one in a certain amount of time the rights revert to Marvel.

Film rights and publishing rights are two very different things. Marvel owns all their own characters in print, obviously.

No All of marvel is owned by Disney.Before Marvel planned on making their own movies, the rights to various characters(X-men, Spiderman) were sold to interested parties. The contracts usually require another movie with the charactar to be made every few years.

The rights to Daredevil recently reverted to Marvel because Fox didn't start production on a new one fast enough. They have a few years left to make another FF movie, though (which I'm sure they'll do).

    Colors aside, the armor looks stocky. Tony Stark built streamline, sleek looking armor in the past and that sense of some sort of fashion really lends itself well to the character. This armor just doesn't have that same appeal. Maybe it will look better in action or once the CGI brigade touches it up a bit. I'm not going to throw in the towel now on Iron Man 3 or this armor, but I'll certainly be keeping a more critical eye on the whole thing.

    Nope, all the suits are digital. Done by ILM. They tried using real suits in Iron Man 1, but they were too hard for RDJ to move around in. Plus they did a test and ILM's digital suit was so good that people got confused and thought it was the real suit (on footage, of course).

    The US Government took War Machine and gave him this stupid patriotic color scheme to boast to other countries about their military might.

    Because, you know having a guy named Captain America wasn't enough.

    If played properly we might get a good bit of satire directed at the US military or it might be more AMERICA cheerleading, which as an American, has grown somewhat tiresome.

    I also think the new Iron Man suit is exciting. I'm glad that Marvel is letting them try something new and I'm sure once you get the CG in there it wont be as jarring as it is to most people. Plus, it gives Disney one more Iron Man design to sell at retail. So that must be nice.
