Iron Patrioit Warmachine?

[–]fench 26 points27 points ago

They can't have Norman though, he's spidey's nogood boyo.
They were sneaking in a little civl war/dark reign type flavours into the end of the avengers though, with the mixed reactions by the public (especially that grouchy fucker with the mustache). I'd love to see that, civil war is my favourite marvel crossover arc, easily.

[–]the_neophyte 14 points15 points ago

It's probably just a nod to it, or Detroit Steel. Based on what happens when the government gets their hands on Stark tech for their own agenda.

[–]killergazebo 0 points1 point ago

According to the Marvel Wiki that's actor James Badge Dale playing Eric Savin / Coldblood 7.

[–]downeysoft 8 points9 points ago

Theyll never be able to do a good Marvel Civil War movie until one company owns almost all the characters. Spidey was one of the biggest influences, and the fantastic four were a big part of it too. Both of those are owned by different companies than iron man, hulk, cap, thor, black widow, hawkeye, fury, and maria hill, which are all obviously super involved (except for hawkeye who was "dead" at the time). I honestly hope they never do a pure civil war movie because theyll never be able to do justice to one of the biggest, most important, most emotional storylines in Marvel history

[–]fench 0 points1 point ago

I think thats a little shortsighted... its like saying they could never do a good movie based on "knightfall" or "nomansland" because they somehow haven't got the rights to azrael or cassandra cain.... but they did, two months ago. All these things can be got around with imaginative adaptation.... the general idea of some superheros being outlawed by the others is certainly a film they could pull off. I for one didn't think Whedon was going to pull off the first film as well as he did, so anythings possible.

[–]downeysoft 0 points1 point ago

Yeah im not saying it would be impossible for them to make a movie based off the civil war. Im saying unless they have the rights to certain characters it really wouldnt do it justice. Like honestly a civil war movie without spider-man? That would just be wrong. To me he was even more important than iron man and his choice and the consequences were definitely more severe. So later on i could see them doing it but they would really have to have spidey in it for it to work

[–]KingNickSNIKT 10 points11 points ago

My God...could you imagine the price tag on a Civil War movie? All those celebrities with all those special effects?

Insane. But it'd destroy every movie in the theaters

[–]fench 2 points3 points ago

Swap 'Civil War' with 'Avengers', and you could have been writing that two years ago

[–]Shagoosty 4 points5 points ago

Civil War is great, but it would be very difficult to pull off in the film medium.

[–]rannie_pophe 0 points1 point ago

I wanted to ask a similar query too. Is War Machine going to be the Iron Patriot?

[–]echoracer 0 points1 point ago

Yep.

[–]LS_DJ 25 points26 points ago

I can accept using the Iron Patriot armor for War Machine due to Sony owning the rights of Norman Osborn, plus if War Machine is supposed to be a US Military unit, not surprising that they'll want it to be super patriotic

I like the design of the Marc XLVIII (apparently) armor, but just TOO much gold! Put a little more red on there! Superficial complaints, though, I just hope they do Extremis justice and don't ruin Iron Man the way X-Men 3 or Spider-Man 3 ruined those franchises

[–]Aiyon 9 points10 points ago

But it's stealing Captain America's thunder! :P

[–]LS_DJ 10 points11 points ago

Winter Soldier is coming out like a year later, I don't think it's stealing any thunder. I hope Thor: The Dark World and Cap'n Amurica: The Winter Soldier are better than the first films, not that I didn't enjoy them

I think Marvel has gotten its cinematic universe under control to release pretty good movies, and hopefully they'll build upon eachother to let Whedon have another great Avengers

[–]Aiyon 15 points16 points ago

I was just joking. I do however want to see War Machine and Cap together, maybe stick a flag between them for good measure? :P

And if you turn on subtitles all you see is " 'MURICA!"

[–]LS_DJ 2 points3 points ago

Haha my bad missed the joke. I thought you were saying that Iron Man 3 is stealing the thunder from Captain America 2...WOOOOOSH

I would love War Machine to be in Avengers 2

[–]Aiyon 0 points1 point ago

I just want to see multiple suits :P

I can't remember which universe, or even when it happens, but I remember watching an animated version of one comic where Stark can remotely control all the other suits when he's in one of them.

That or a hulkbuster.

[–]LS_DJ 2 points3 points ago

I've read reports on places like GeekTyrant saying that IM3 will have stark controlling multiple suits so I think youll get what you want!

Hulk buster would be fuckin awesome maybe using that to fight Thanos in Avengers 2?

[–]Aiyon 0 points1 point ago

Or you could have Thanos somehow gain access to the Hulkbuster. Suddenly both sides have a hulk. Mixes it up a little.

[–]Stilgar1973 1 point2 points ago

Beginning of WW Hulk

[–]Aiyon 0 points1 point ago

Ah, was out of touch with Marvel stuff for a long while, recently got back into it after reading Spiderman: Coming Home. Then decided to read the entire ultimate universe.

So far, finished spiderman (up to ultimatum), reading X-men. The art styles are very different.

[–]-Aristotle- 0 points1 point ago

It was Germans, now its Russians.

[–]fench 0 points1 point ago

Yeah, thats kind of the point though... ripping off tony and steve for nefarious purposes. A perversion

[–]Aiyon 0 points1 point ago

Ah, I don't know much Marvel outside Spidey and Deadpool just yet. Been reading Ultimate universe

[–]fench 0 points1 point ago

Spoilers Its the Green goblin dressed as a Iron man/captain america hybrid, heading the Dark avengers
http://media.comicvine.com/uploads/6/68077/2079294-avengers.jpg

[–]Aiyon 0 points1 point ago

Ah, I knew it was Osborn, I just thought he'd turned :P

Black Suit Spidey on the right?

[–]fench 0 points1 point ago

No, thats the scorpion, with the venom suit, pretending to be spiderman. They are all villains dressed as hero's... for example bullseye is in hawkeyes costume, and wolverines wayward son is in his pa's costume. The sentry is the sentry though, he has just had his fragile little mind manipulated by norman.

[–]Shagoosty 0 points1 point ago

I'm honestly not too excited with Shane Black being in charge.

[–]LS_DJ 5 points6 points ago

Well I liked Kiss Kiss Bang Bang and Downer Jr. was good in that...but I did like Favreau's take on the series. Still hoping that they don't fuckitup

[–]Shagoosty -3 points-2 points ago

He's a fine writer, but his one instance has a director has been meh. I know everyone needs to start somewhere but Iron Man? I guess it can't be worse than the second one.

[–]LS_DJ 17 points18 points ago

[–]xMatch 9 points10 points ago

You're not alone.

[–]HeroDiesFirst 12 points13 points ago

If they somehow do Civil War, and somehow do it justice?!.. I'd die.

[–]utilitybelt 6 points7 points ago

The problem with that is in order to do Civil War you need at least 30 more heroes than currently exist in the Marvel Cinematic Universe in order for it to have any sense of drama or scope.

As it stands now you'd have something akin to choosing sides for a kickball game. All we have is Iron Man, War Machine, Thor, Cap, Black Widow, Hulk, Hawkeye and Nick Fury.

[–]Evan5050 2 points3 points ago

My problem is that I hated Civil War.

[–]utilitybelt 0 points1 point ago

Honestly, I wasn't a fan myself. I still think it was a good concept, but it was extremely poorly executed. And the way it's been collected in trades is even worse. I read a friend's copy of the actual Civil War tpb and felt like I was getting maybe 20% of the story. Later I read the Captain America issues from that time and felt like I got another 15%.

I filled in the gaps with Wikipedia and the like but yeah, supremely underwhelming.

[–]Illidan1943 2 points3 points ago

Also we need Spidey for the movie

[–]HeroDiesFirst 1 point2 points ago

True, I guess the best we can hope for is a Civil War in the Marvel (non-Sony) movieverse.

[–]swiftysam 0 points1 point ago

It'll never happen. Too much clusterfuck for a movie.

[–]HopeRidesAlone 9 points10 points ago

The Invincible Dijon Man!

[–]thegirlwhocan 7 points8 points ago

It is so comforting to come to a dedicated Marvel subreddit after the clusterfuck that is the MCU fandom's response to this image.

OH MY GOD TONY MADE A SUIT FOR STEVE BECAUSE HE LOVES HIM FOREVER

anyway.

Popular theories are that (seeing as it's military official, as evidenced by the sexy hip tattoo the suit is rocking) Rhodey's piloting it, which seems to be the theory OP is going with. On the Marvel wikia though, it says that James Badge Dale is wearing it, so.. I don't even know.

[–]Nova178The Human Rocket 2 points3 points ago

It's not a theory... It is Rhodes

[–]thegirlwhocan -2 points-1 points ago

The Marvel Wikia seems to think otherwise, that's all I'm saying.

[–]rhashawork 3 points4 points ago

The Marvel Wiki is fan written and does not have the same high standards that Wikipedia is usually known for.

[–]thegirlwhocan 1 point2 points ago

Fair enough. I'm REALLY hoping this is true, because I love Rhodey with a passion and he really doesn't get the love he deserves in fandom.

[–]Jedmands 17 points18 points ago

Is it just me or does the new iron man suit look ridiculous?

[–]Illidan1943 24 points25 points ago

If you've read any comic that has Ultimate Ironman anything looks good

[–]DreamcastJunkie 3 points4 points ago

Brian Hitch's Ultimate Iron Man design is, by far, my favorite Iron Man armor ever.

[–]MythicalLeopard 3 points4 points ago

[–]Juliendnb 0 points1 point ago

Is this Bionicle?

[–]MythicalLeopard 1 point2 points ago

Nope, its ultimate Iron-Man.

[–]Juliendnb 0 points1 point ago

Just a joke haha :D

[–]MythicalLeopard 1 point2 points ago

It really does look like one though. I was wondering why it seemed to look familiar.

[–]Aiyon 2 points3 points ago

That head was just... wat.

[–]mrdm242 12 points13 points ago

The color scheme looks reversed to me. After reading Iron Man for around 30 years or so, I'm just far too used to red being the main color and yellow being the secondary one.

[–]InternetTourGuideWhat? 3 points4 points ago

It's the Extremis Armor.

[–]rhashawork 14 points15 points ago

Which looks nothing like this.

[–]KingNickSNIKT 2 points3 points ago

The Extremis isn't an armor, but a Biological Injection. The only thing that could really be called the "Extremis Armor" would be the Golden Under-Suit that connects the Iron Man armor to Tony's mind (after the Extremis Injection, it becomes internalized into Tony's bones and on thought, comes out of small pores and materializes on his skin)

[–]DreamcastJunkie 0 points1 point ago

The armor that he wore at the end of Iron Man 2 very closely resembles the Extremis design. This one is sort-of based on the current "Bleeding Edge" design, but highly modified.

[–]GoshDarnBlast 0 points1 point ago

It really does, I can't stand it.

[–]the_one_true_b -2 points-1 points ago

the word i would use is ostentatious. is it just me or are they really starting to stretch the capabilities of Start and the suits a little too far?

and after i saw The Avengers one thing that worried me is if the quality of MCU movies would go down due to...

  • trying to replicate the comic relief in the first one which leads to the film being too campy. watching IM and IM2 back to back i could see a drop...

  • Marvel trying to lo-ball the hell out of actors, like they tried to do with Mickey Rourke and supposedly did with Terrance Howard with IM2

  • they just get the overall notion that they can't do anything wrong which ultimately leads to a low quality product because they felt anything they would touch turns to gold.

[–]Jon76 4 points5 points ago

Iron Man has no neck...

[–]MedicalMechanica 2 points3 points ago

Extremis never looked so sexy.

[–]astronaut5000 3 points4 points ago

That's iron patriot.

[–]protomd 4 points5 points ago

While I have high hopes for the film, they're both looking less desirable than ever

[–]jonesin20 4 points5 points ago

Why was this downvoted? He added to the discusion and disagreed in a very respectful way.

[–]protomd 3 points4 points ago

Welcome to reddit my friend.

Their hate only makes me strongah

[–]the1stavenger 3 points4 points ago

Ehh. The Iron Man suit doesn't look AS bad but I am not vibing on that War Machine suit yet.

[–]Psychovore 1 point2 points ago

The War Machine actually looks a lot, lot leaner than the new Iron Man Suit- it's the surface finish, I think- and the oodles of details in the new Iron Man suit, but I think they look good! A nice contrast, really.

[–]stink_182 1 point2 points ago

"And introducing Iron Man, the Beige Avenger!"

[–]Sai913 0 points1 point ago

Love the new color

[–]bertosquirto 0 points1 point ago

Looks Captain America

[–]andycoates 0 points1 point ago

If they ride those bikes, it will be the best movie EVER.

[–]go1den3ye 0 points1 point ago

I don't care what they say, this IS the Iron Patriot suit

[–]Wombat_H 0 points1 point ago

The Iron man suit it cool, not loving it though.

Iron Patriot/War Machine on the other hand, looks orgasmic.

[–]Crothfus 1 point2 points ago

Sorry but that's not War Machine. That would be the Iron Patriot suit. It hasn't been confirmed whose piloting it yet

[–]SimonWest 12 points13 points ago

as so many posts say, it cant actually be 'iron patriot' as such as spiderman is owned (and all the villans tied in to spiderman) by sony

[–]sun827 4 points5 points ago

But is "the Iron Patriot " owned by sony? They can just swap out the pilot and keep the same armor/name.

[–]KingNickSNIKT 3 points4 points ago

GOD DAMNIT I HATE SONY JUST GIVE IT BACK!!!

[–]4realthistime 1 point2 points ago

Sometimes I feel like Im the only one that hated the new spider-man....

[–]KingNickSNIKT 0 points1 point ago

Haven't seen it yet :(

[–]4realthistime 0 points1 point ago

Well sony putting the movie out to be able to keep the rights is one reason

[–]MythicalLeopard 0 points1 point ago

Same reason I hate the second Fantasic Four movie and every xmen after 2.If Marvel had the rights to FF they could do so much better than fox.

[–]4realthistime 0 points1 point ago

or at least have skrulls, and the goddamn super skrulls

[–]ejeebs 0 points1 point ago

Moviebob, is that you?

[–]CHNYC 0 points1 point ago

You aren't alone. It was terrible.

[–]Crothfus -4 points-3 points ago

I realize that it can't really be the Iron Patriot character from the comics (Norman Osborn is owned by Sony, not Marvel). I was just correcting the author's choice of calling that armor "War Machine".

[–]FistfulOfSilence 9 points10 points ago

They've shown the Iron Patriot suit with the shoulder mounted gatling gun. Plus, the star on the hip sort of resembles the US Air Force insignia. I'm pretty sure it's just a retooling of the War Machine suit.

[–]GirIsKing -2 points-1 points ago

Civil War is a badass crossover but something that wouldn't translate well into a super high budge movie. it would make a good few episodes on a tv series like they did with the Skrull Invasion but not a movie

[–]Stoneiswuwu 0 points1 point ago

These versions of the armor are atrocious. Taking the Iron Patriot look and swapping it for the actual War Machine look is a terrible idea. And all those gold on Iron Man makes me want to puke.
