Don't generalize nearly 300 Million phone users because of some douche bag hipsters on twitter. There are just as many people that think android is superior because you can modify the OS.

Completely correct. It's ridiculous to assume the majority of iPhone uses even had an opinion on instagram, let alone that this was representative at all. Some people are saying that 'Many iPhone users' was facetious at best.

Almost all major tech companies are involved in patent litigation. There have been a number of articles pointing this out and showing that Apple is mentioned only because it gets the most page views.

Mmmmm. Not quite. Apple's strategy is more no-holds barred when it comes to patent litigation. See, many other tech companies gobble up other, smaller companies merely for patent portfolio. Sometimes to have enough patents to make the other big shark back off from suing them. (Or to say 'Well, yeah, we infringed on some of yours, but we have 2,000 new patents and you probably infringe on a couple of ours, so let's call it a wash.') Some companies are merely patent trolls, who get a source of income from suing people and saying 'you infringed on our patent, give us some cash.' And sometimes its a combination of both.

But none of that really applies to Apple. Apple isn't in it just to get some money trickling in from Samsung in exchange for using some of Apple's patents. Or from HTC, or anyone else. And they aren't using them for any mutually assured destruction strategy. Because they don't need to do either of those, because they are Goliath. They have more money than God. They don't want to buffer their revenue with tribute from Samsung. They want to make it so god damned hard to make and sell an Android device that you just get out of the game. (This last bit is where I get a little crazy, of course.)

But, blahblahblah. The truth is, Apple and iOS get whatever hate they get on Reddit simply for being that Goliath.
