Rules

  1. No screenshots, or pictures with added or superimposed text. This includes image macros, comics, info-graphics and most diagrams. Text (e.g. a URL) serving to credit the original author is exempt.

  2. No gore or porn. NSFW content must be tagged.

For some reason I read Indiana as India and I was WTF'ing for a second

[–]cogneuro 86 points87 points ago

India...na

[–]WaitingForHoverboard 62 points63 points ago

We named the dog Indiana.

[–]fgsk 3 points4 points ago

Dad!

[–]jackwoww 44 points45 points ago

Gary, Indiana might as well be Mumbai amiright!

[–]bczar222 93 points94 points ago

THIS IS A FUCKING REPOST.

[–]mr_goodcat7 11 points12 points ago

The OPs name is infiniteloop12. What did you expect?

[–]kobekramer1 18 points19 points ago

Simpsons did it.

[–]CheesyBeefHotPeppers 13 points14 points ago

Here's some OC. Took this a little over a year ago.

[–]TruthyPam 3 points4 points ago

Up vote for the Chicago inspired username

[–]theknightmare 7 points8 points ago

Everything on reddit is a repost. Haven't you any clue about the multiple universe theory?

[–]Robby712 2 points3 points ago

I see what you did there.

[–]Jonny_Watts 11 points12 points ago

I read Indiana and I'm still WTF'ing because how can you be looking at Chicago at that angle without being in Michigan already?

[–]The_Incredulous_Hulk 10 points11 points ago

[–]hawoona 7 points8 points ago

This is definitely Indiana, went to that campground a few years ago, every sunset are like this one!

[–]BenKenobi88 0 points1 point ago

Probably near Michigan City.

You can see a good silhouette of downtown Chicago from pretty much anywhere along the Indiana coastline though.

I live in Hammond and can see downtown from my house, and can continue to see it even if I drive an hour south to Lowell, IN.

[–]redbeard_mike 9 points10 points ago

thats completely false. you cannot see chicago an hour south of hammond. i was born and raised in the region. and if i had to guess this pic was taken closer to miller beach rather than michigan city

[–]Korean_Kommando 11 points12 points ago

It was taken on the Dunes near Chesterton. It's a repost, but still a beautiful picture =)

[–]IfYouSeeHerSayHello 2 points3 points ago

As a Hoosier, can I just say I love the Indiana dunes? In the summer, with enough beer, you can almost forget that you're not at the ocean. Makes a solid day trip when you want to get away, but you're poor as shit.

[–]n3v3r_3n0u9h 1 point2 points ago

Oh yeah, well I live in SW Indiana and I can see Chicago just by using Google maps.

[–]picbandit 9 points10 points ago

Me too, i read India. Wtf'd

[–]ShiiAnnFan 0 points1 point ago

I used to mix up the two words as well. A good way of remembering it is that the "principal is your PAL."

[–]hockal00gy 10 points11 points ago

My principal was the bane of my existence. Screw you, I don't want to wear pants in class.

[–]EulersPhi 7 points8 points ago

right. that's totally how I remember the difference between India and Indiana.

[–]catcake 52 points53 points ago

I shouldn't get this excited to see Indiana mentioned on the front page.

[–]xlxhopexlx 4 points5 points ago

This is the most exciting thing to happen to Indiana since...well, forever.

[–]Stanage 7 points8 points ago

Except when we voted for Obama in 2008. That fucked up John King's magic wall big time on election night. We talked about it for months.

[–]Major_Colvin 1 point2 points ago

Hey, is there really a town called Pawnee in Indiana?

[–]ThatIsMyHat 16 points17 points ago

I thought that link looked purple.

[–]ethanlan 2 points3 points ago

hands down best comment of the day

[–]aaronaqua1 57 points58 points ago

The original post of this photo is literally the 26th top post of all time. Talk about a shameless repost...

Edit: Typo

[–]trout45 8 points9 points ago

I have never seen it and I browse reddit almost every day at work. it. Judging from the vote count and comments, many other people are seeing it for the first time as well.

Do users not have a right to see this content just because another group of users saw it at a different point it time? Or is it only okay if you get to point out that you've seen it first? A comment, by the way, that contributes nothing to the discussion.

[–]aaronaqua1 4 points5 points ago

Every day it seems there is less and less original content, and more and more reposts. Right now, you have about 20% of people who haven't seen this photo before, and 80% who have. I'd rather have an original content submission be on the front page instead of this where 100% of people can appreciate something that they haven't seen before, not just the people who missed it the first time.

[–]deja-vu-comment 473 points474 points ago

That must be torture--having to live in Indiana while you can see civilization.

.

[–]whiskeynotwater 10 points11 points ago

Mishawaka, IN here. I'd have to say, as a fellow who lived in Seoul and Bloomington, IN, Northern Indiana is not exactly the seat of civilization, but god damn it, it's not as bad as the picture other people paint. I love northern Indiana.

[–]sedatemenow 2 points3 points ago

dude, I'm in south bend. people love to get it twisted. that being said, i drive ten minutes south of my house and I'm in the country.

[–]Hy-Brasil 86 points87 points ago

[–]FreeDirt 9 points10 points ago

Christ, I remember that picture and the comment as well. Time to get off Reddit and read a book or some shit...

Pffffttt nevermind, fuck books...also, at least deja-vu-comment isn't exactly lying saying his comment is original...

[–]novel-leap 41 points42 points ago

I know. I live in Valpo, which is one of the more bearable towns up here.

[–]Walstrum 25 points26 points ago

I too live in valpo.

[–]Aderriere 7 points8 points ago

Upvote for fellow Elkhartian. It is a sad place.

[–]rartuin270 1 point2 points ago

That it is. Which is why I moved to fort wayne last year.

[–]Chootrattanarood 4 points5 points ago

I feel sorry for you.

[–]CanadaMexicoHybrid 8 points9 points ago

Michigan City here. Yeaaah...

[–]milkmonay 8 points9 points ago

I'm so sorry.

[–]CanadaMexicoHybrid 6 points7 points ago

It's okay.. I mean, three shootings in one week isn't that bad. I mean, yeah we have a few high school lockdowns, drugs, etc. But atleast it's not Gary! :D

[–]milkmonay 4 points5 points ago

And you have a pretty sweet outlet mall, too!

[–]CanadaMexicoHybrid 3 points4 points ago

Have you been to the one in Hobart? I mean.. Yeah, we do. But that's the only thing we have, besides the Blue Chip Casino. People from Wisconsin and Illinois drive all the way over just for that.

I hate Illinois drivers.

[–]ibought_theapp 6 points7 points ago

Crown Point checking in. 219, we out here.

[–]TheSmiling 1 point2 points ago

I too live in... Victoria, Texas.

[–]BeccaAnn725 4 points5 points ago

[–]benpg93 3 points4 points ago

do people not get the reference? and thanks a lot I was so damn confused for a minuet wonder why I had seen the same EXACT thing before.

[–]inexcess 5 points6 points ago

From where this was taken (Porter, Indiana) to Chicago is about an hour drive

[–]Vithus 5 points6 points ago

Hey, I go to that beach. That's MY beach.

[–]mimple 4 points5 points ago

STAY OUT of my territory

[–]johnturkey 1 point2 points ago

Is that like seeing Russia from your living room?

[–]thepolishcamera 24 points25 points ago

What a beautiful shot. I love Chicago.

[–]pohatu 14 points15 points ago

I wonder how many dead bodies are in that lake.

[–]mctaco 14 points15 points ago

Way to repost the top 20th post.

[–]prospect_terror 6 points7 points ago

I grew up in a little town called Chesterton Indiana at the tip bottom of Lake Michigan. I used to work for the National Lakeshore doing roads and trails work. This is a picture of the place I call home. Those beaches are magical and rival any beaches on the sea.
I can't tell you how happy it makes me to see this on the front page. Thank you.

[–]mrbooze 18 points19 points ago

Chicago has a very underrated skyline if you ask me.

[–]BarksdaleBell 15 points16 points ago

Underrated? Don't get me wrong, it's great, but I think its pretty widely appreciated by the human race.

[–]mokturnall 5 points6 points ago

Underrated? It's one of the best and well known skylines on the planet.

[–]donnystfu 5 points6 points ago

I love the Earth and all, but pollution is just so damn beautiful.

[–]jackarcalon 6 points7 points ago

This allows us to calculate the distance to Chicago, given that the Willis Tower (500 meters) subtends half a degree in this photo (same as the setting sun), the distance must be 720/pi Willis towers, or well over one hundred kilometers (75 miles).

[–]sedatemenow 12 points13 points ago

*Sears Tower.

[–]eifersucht12a 14 points15 points ago

These stupid fucking posts are getting more obnoxious than the reposts themselves.

[–]PresidentGSO 4 points5 points ago

Damn, the world is a magical fucking place sometimes.

[–]dc5trbo 21 points22 points ago

Mt. Baldy?

[–]igiveup2345 15 points16 points ago

Looks like it to me...the angle seems right. To those who are downvoting: Mt Baldy is one of a series of beaches in the Indiana Dunes.

[–]undeadgoat 3 points4 points ago

Funny, there's also a Mount Baldy in the Michigan section of the dunes . . . I've never been up there around sunset, but you can still see the Sears Tower just from the regular dunes in that area.

[–]emaw63 3 points4 points ago

There's also a Mt. Baldy at the Philmont High Adventure Base in New Mexico

[–]phickey710 3 points4 points ago

Long beach???

[–]kharmakazy 14 points15 points ago

TIL there is a beach in indiana...

[–]CanadaMexicoHybrid 10 points11 points ago

Several! Beverly Shores, Michigan City, and Long Beach going up to New Buffalo in Michigan. I live in Michigan City. The beach is shit.

[–]loudog92 16 points17 points ago

Warren dunes beach is where it's at.

[–]Ducttape2021 6 points7 points ago

Come for the clay pits, stay because you're too tired to get all the way up Tower Hill! And then die at Redamaks.

[–]onegiantleap 4 points5 points ago

I laughed so hard at "die at Redamak's". There's nothing like that post-Redamak's guilt you get after stuffing your face with a burger....and going to Oink's.

[–]Ducttape2021 2 points3 points ago

Oh man, I forgot about Oink's! We rarely went, on account of Redamak guilt.

[–]Navysealguy3 5 points6 points ago

[–]fluffybunnyofdoom 2 points3 points ago

[–]surfmb70 0 points1 point ago

[–]pixel_art 4 points5 points ago

Jay Cutler once threw a ball across that divide. It was intercepted.

[–]gary88 29 points30 points ago

*Tony Romo

[–]Siggy778 5 points6 points ago

Funny how you posted this after Cutler had a great game.

Also, what you said barely makes sense, even as a joke.

[–]AlmostHonestAbe 5 points6 points ago

There should be a repost limit on this shit.

[–]kindall 1 point2 points ago

Excellent shot. Reminds me of this one I took some time ago of Seattle from Bellevue.

[–]holycatwomanbatman 5 points6 points ago

"HOLY SHIT! That is fucking incredible!" -The literal words that came out of my mouth.

[–]photoshopmattdamon 4 points5 points ago

Really?

[–]Rossoccer44 2 points3 points ago

Having moved from Chicago to Indiana for graduate school this made me very happy. Thank you!

[–]boom_boom_squirrel 2 points3 points ago

[–]lmpervious -1 points0 points ago

Very cool picture. I've been near the beach in Indiana with a good view of Chicago and it looks awesome, but I did not expect one from this far. I guess you don't get to see as many details, but it looks very cool.

[–]CA_home -1 points0 points ago

So can I see the curvature of the earth in this picture? Is that possible? Because it seems like I can...

[–]cynosureskater -1 points0 points ago

ooooo i like that!

[–]tworen 0 points1 point ago

Where's the beach!?!

[–]debbira 0 points1 point ago

[–]SRDeed 1 point2 points ago

hell yeah. i live in indiana and this is one of my favorite views in the nation. beautiful. thanks for the photo!

[–]LegitimateAlex -1 points0 points ago

If I would have known I could get Karma from Chicago from Indiana shots I would have dumped about all hundred of mine a year ago. You can see Chicago pretty much any night its not too cloudy or foggy from the Dunes.

[–]remyseven 0 points1 point ago

Proof that the world is curved! If only they had a Tower of Babel back in the old days...

[–]theknightmare -1 points0 points ago

That is gorgeous!

[–]Craxus[!] 0 points1 point ago

This wouldn't happen to be taken from near Michigan City, would it? o.O

[–]wolfenit415 0 points1 point ago

Firstly does anyone remember Eerie Indiana the TV show? Second I'm drunk and that is the most amazing picture of a city I have ever seen!

[–]6ft4Welshman -1 points0 points ago

I take this same photo probably every time I go to the beach. If I knew it was karma-worthy, I would've posted it myself.

I guess I just take it for granted since I live here.

[–]SomewhereinMichigan 0 points1 point ago

I live near New Buffalo, MI. If you go to the beach there on a really clear night, you can make out lights from Chicago.

[–]atomicspin 0 points1 point ago

IT'S SINKING! FOR GOD'S SAKE! SOMEONE HELP CHICAGO!

[–]theplow 0 points1 point ago

This view is from the Dunes in Chesterton, IN. Use to spend my summers on the beach there.

[–]TheKnotStore 0 points1 point ago

Was it Dunes National Park? I grew up near there. Now you've gone and made me all sentimental.

[–]acrobatiques 1 point2 points ago

I moved to Seattle earlier this year from Indianapolis. High school in Carmel, college in Angola, and first big girl jobs in Indianapolis. I've been a lot of places--domestic and abroad--but photos like this remind me how awesome Indiana really is. Folks on the west coast don't know shit about Steak and Shake and White Castle.

[–]Reinheardt 0 points1 point ago
