This is also part of the contest rules. The number of votes are divided by the total population of the school / 1000, rounded to the near thousand. Ex: my school (which got 4th place) has 1700 people, which rounds up to 2 thousand. We had about 16,000 votes at the end, divided by two equals 8,000. This is why schools like Harvey Mudd and Caltech ended up in the top 5. Had Horace Man had 50k real votes, it would have won by a landslide because it's also a small school.

The other liberal arts colleges surrounding Harvey Mudd also voted to bring Taylor Swift. I'm not saying that Mudd didn't cheat, but they also had a larger audience voting for them that wasn't necessarily counted as the school's population.

Mudd is a liberal arts school specializing in science, comp sci, engineering, and math. It's neighbor Claremont McKenna is the "business" school, specializing in econ, accounting and government.
