For me: Adrenaline rush of thinking what I would say to them if I was to go out there and tell them to shut up. But I'll just lay in a bed and think about the hypothetical situations until they be quiet.
[–]JebatGa 253 points254 points255 points 13 hours ago
I do the same thing. Why the fuck do we do this? I'm a big strong guy, why can't i man up and go face them and not act like a big pussy i am?
[–]IntelligentBacteria 108 points109 points110 points 12 hours ago
I usually just open the window and scream "shut up" or "shut the fuck up" if it's like teenagers. If it's older people I do the same thing.
[–]PaintEater 59 points60 points61 points 12 hours ago
I'd imagine you generally get a "fuck you" in return.
[–]IntelligentBacteria 44 points45 points46 points 12 hours ago
Or some stones to my window, either way I'm good.
Until the windows breaks.
[–]Emrikkaljo 13 points14 points15 points 12 hours ago
And the motherfucking bats flies right over your head and you get that thought:"Was this shit really worth it?"
[–]Diablo117 32 points33 points34 points 11 hours ago
Then he gets traumatized by the bats, spends his life becoming batman, the hero peace and quiet deserves
[–]mrxscarface 17 points18 points19 points 10 hours ago
I actually yelled out my window at a neighbor's loud party once, and got a knock at my door about 15 minutes later. I opened the door, and it was a teenage kid apologizing for the noise. He also asked me not to tell his parents.
[–]PaintEater 9 points10 points11 points 10 hours ago
That's because it was a scared kid whose parents didn't know their house was getting trashed.

My friend works at a Casino - gets a call about an assault in the hotel area - shows up, man beaten up by a large group of men - about 4am. The man has possibly a broken jaw and concussion. He is sent to the hospital. The group of men was making too much noise and he told them to keep it down and they beat the shit out of him.
Here's the kicker: The men that beat him up were Dennis Rodman and his Entourage. This happened just this past weekend. Welcome to Canada Dennis, glad you made a nice impression.
[–]Theonetruth 35 points36 points37 points 11 hours ago
Recently me and my wife were sleeping soundly, there was a party two spaces down..I tolerated it cuz it was the weekend.
3am rolls around and there is a group of men yelling att each other...they weren't fighting just drunk as piss..they were some mexicans fellows talking all gangster like...I lived in Los Angeles...I let it go on for a little while. finally Id had enough sounded like they were outside my window. I open the back door and yell at a group of four "Shut the fuck up, I'm tying to fucking sleep!!!"
Now mind you I'm expecting some shit talking as they were drunk...NOPE they cordially say "Sorry sir were drunk, we will be quite, How are you tonight?" So I'm completely disarmed and just say "I'm fine" they apologize for or five times and walk back to the party.
o.O Thank you unusually polite partiers..

I'd hate to get my asked kicked by someone I can only picture in my mind wearing a wedding dress.
[–]cumfarts 2 points3 points4 points 10 hours ago
6'6" 220 lbs in a wedding dress. Does that make it easier?
[–]xin_kuzi 6 points7 points8 points 11 hours ago
Dennis Rodman is a dick. A friend of mine was once punched in the balls by Dennis at a signing event, very much unprovoked, out of the blue. Rodman's manager screamed "what the fuck are you doing, Dennis?"... Rodman offered my friend to let him punch him back, but my guy was busy rolling on the ground, holding his junk.

[–]critical_mess 30 points31 points32 points 12 hours ago
SAD?
[–]BICEPS 12 points13 points14 points 12 hours ago
Indeed.
[–]Propa_Tingz 5 points6 points7 points 12 hours ago
That's a Social Anxiety Disorder story, sorry to hear :(
[–]skakruk 162 points163 points164 points 12 hours ago
"Disorder" my ass, now the stupid psychologists call everything "disorder".
It happens to most people, and it's because nobody likes to be hated, insulted or disapproved, and you know that if you call them out on the noise they will insult you and "hate" you.
[–]Braprap 66 points67 points68 points 12 hours ago
Seriously though, it depends whether it severely affects your life. I once stayed in my room at college for 3 months because I was so shy, the longer I didn't see anyone the harder it got and eventually I just had to leave. I used to sneak out at night to buy groceries and hope to god I didn't bump into anyone and have to talk to them.
[–]throwthatshits 21 points22 points23 points 10 hours ago
Only 3 months? Try 4 years, which is what I'm in now in my own house (25 y old).
I only leave once per week for groceries, sometimes twice. Other than that, if it isn't something like sending a package (sending back defective products) or mowing my lawn because it's high as fuck I don't go out.
I have no fixed sleeping schedule, I sleep 3-4 hours here and there which is a plus if you interact with other people on the internet over a few time zones, amounting to 6 hours per day mostly. Rest is procrastinating on the PC (reddit, watching vids on youtube, games although I got a blockade atm so no passion for it but when I get myself to start a new one I devour it, played MMOs but finally got no more love for them after guild after guild imploded by locust behaviour of guild members/officers/leaders going from game to game and since I could raid endlessly and do other stuff all around the clock I'm not satisfied when raid bosses stay alive because ppl have school/work since I don't - perfectionist kinda in gearing+skilllvl way above average but not best+lots of time+addiction=stomping the other 99% of the player base, reading news mostly PC-tech, forums).
I keep communication to a minimum, usual exchange niceties with shop personnel that society dictates and don't really like meeting people I know from my old life in my town since it gets a bit awkward sometimes but whatever, I can deal with stupid questions and most are aware of my current status. I also don't like seeking eye contact (irl that's considered rude, while I consider it [wrongly so most likely] provoking if I try to focus on their eyes) and every time I go out I believe my fellow human beings judge me when they look in my direction (which is probably true for some, how could it not from my behaviour :D).
I sometimes have anxiety if I have to make phone calls to companies or other persons I have business with and I sometimes can get pretty awkward in wording things when performing them but that doesn't stop me dead in my track if it happens. I do put them on hold day after day sometimes tho, until the matter can't be postponed any more and it forces me to make the call. Then it's either a bit awkward on my site when wording stuff or it's flawless - either way I feel varying amounts of relief after I made the call and resolved whatever matter came up. If I really have to (or want to, which is seldom) communicate for the most part it still works well be it in my native language or not. That's why I'm not worried so much. Before that time I went 3 years to boarding school 5 days/week after a similar phase of non-communication although not so severe and after a short time I was communicating well with everyone again. However what I did notice there is that I mimic mannerism, quirks, proverbs of other "friends" (which I've never seen after school any more since we came from all directions, 4 hour train ride for me for example) I made there and integrate them in my own ones, which kinda sucks because I realized that there's not much own personality so I try to go with what seemingly works for others.
Communicating over the internet via text or voice chat is no problem at all for me, however since I don't play MMOs atm I don't really have someone to go on Teamspeak/Ventrilo atm and I don't see the need for it to just mindlessly chat with someone without a common goal/interest. Text communication is mostly forums or reddit (more of a lurker here tho).
As for financials: I have a steady but nothing special income from renting out commercial real estate, low living costs as I don't party drink or buy unnecessary shit in hopes to fulfil my life, live alone in a multi-family house with 2 stories, have reduced medical self-insurance-rates (because of the income) which covers pretty much anything in my country. So no work has to be done atm by me, but if for some reason it goes tits up I have enough in the bank and I'd work in the PC-tech sector, most likely salesman or repair service.
I have been to 2 psychiatrist, a social worker (with the usual showing of other even worse off people in my age (mostly druggies or school dropouts, "ermagawd this could be you in a year, look how they're trying to get back on their feet"-drama!) and an institution to evalute my social skills and educational background because of my behaviour, none of those people could really change my core being. Lately my mother even tried to bring me into a Christian-themed religious rehabilitation centre (which is pretty much working menial tasks, praying, sleeping) which for me as an atheist was "Nope!" (I didn't know that before the trip, that it was this kinda institution) and I ended up pissing off one of the people that rehabilitated there and is now mentoring newcomers by challenging his believes and mocking them. No fisticuffs ensued sadly, would've been fun to show how peaceful their religion is, getting all puffed up because of those debunking words thrown at their sky-daddy.

Take a trip to the coast, or the mountains, or anyplace where you can be alone and just enjoy being alive without the anxieties incurred by the populated world. Assuming you're in the U.S.A., there's a zillion places that you should see (Crane Estate in Ipswich MA and the hills of Vermont are two places I've been that I won't soon forget). Maybe steer clear of NYC for the time being, but that's another area I'd recommend, having been there before. At least go out and indulge in this beautiful country every once in a while, even if you don't form any social connections you'll still be moving and changing. It helped me.
[–]uniquelyaverage 5 points6 points7 points 12 hours ago
I hope you are doing better now
[–]Braprap 4 points5 points6 points 11 hours ago

[–]WhipIash 6 points7 points8 points 12 hours ago
Jesus Christ dude O.o
How did you get out of it? I mean, what changed?
[–]Braprap 22 points23 points24 points 11 hours ago
I went to the doctor, he sent me to a counsellor. It was difficult at first to talk about, but basically they teach you to "think differently", and push yourself to enter situations that you're not totally comfortable with. It really did help and don't see myself as having a problem any more. I still have some bad memories and probably over analyse a little but I live a "normal" life.
The whole thing with SAD is you trap yourself in loops of thought, obsessing over your social performances, and because you're obsessing so much you perform badly, which make you worry more and socialise less. The treatment is about breaking that cycle.
[–]WhipIash 4 points5 points6 points 11 hours ago
Very interesting.
Could you elaborate on what sort of things they pushed you to do? Or how you are suppose to think?
[–]ExcellentGary 2 points3 points4 points 11 hours ago
Typical small clubs where you're not expected to interact too much, like pottery or creative writing, then building up to small social events like going to the cinema with a bunch of people or going for a coffee with some new people and so on and so on.
The therapy will tend to make you think less about negativity you perceive about yourself during social interactions and more about the positive until such time you enjoy social events occasionally, if not always, but SAD sufferers tend to be natural introverts so enjoy their own company sometimes just as much.
[–]WhipIash 2 points3 points4 points 11 hours ago
That last part sounds much more descriptive of me. I enjoy my own company very much, and I don't really have any problem going out with friends. Even meeting new people, with friends, is okay. As long as I'm not left alone with totally new people over an extended period of time I'm fine.
Clubs or whatever, though, is incredibly.. boring.
[–]allymumu 2 points3 points4 points 11 hours ago
With phobias and anxiety, usually someone will go through Cognitive Behavioral Therapy. It is common in therapy to make a "fear hierarchy" and work their way up the ladder, slowly facing things that make themselves more and more anxious. This can start as just thinking about something (eg thinking about a spider) and end with a full on confrontation (holding a tarantella). Exposure therapy like this can work wonders.
There is also the cognitive side, where thoughts are tackled. The person is taught how to challenge negative thoughts and test how accurate they are. Over time, they learn that their thoughts really don't make logical sense and can combat them with more realistic thoughts.
[–]Ghostwalker8 124 points125 points126 points 12 hours ago
As a psychologist, a social disorder is a severe condition which is not to be taken lightly. And we don't diagnose everyone with simple normal problems with disorders.
[–]Dr_Funkenstein_ 12 points13 points14 points 11 hours ago*
Out of curiosity, what can be done for people diagnosed with a SAD? I believe some friends to have symptoms or signs from what I've read, but they've sought no doctor's diagnosis or advice.
Edit: Alright fuck lying on the Internet, it's me who I think has a SAD.
[–]BigBadMrBitches 2 points3 points4 points 10 hours ago
you don't have a SAD! Your super-psychedelic level of funk is just too much for most people to handle!
[–]kittykatie0629 26 points27 points28 points 11 hours ago
That's because you're a psychologist and not a psychiatrist.
[–]leperaffinity56 9 points10 points11 points 10 hours ago
A psychiatrist would just throw pills at the guy (I'm severely generalizing here), what's your point? The best therapy is a good mix of behavioral and medicinal therapy, eventually to the point where medicine isn't needed and the behavioral therapy is less necessary as well.
I love how people try to emphasize that disorders are becoming more common, but really it's just because preventative care and an increasing emphasis on psychological health are making it easier to recognize and diagnose than in earlier years.
[–]swinegums 5 points6 points7 points 10 hours ago
The best therapy is a good mix of behavioral and medicinal therapy, eventually to the point where medicine isn't needed and the behavioral therapy is less necessary as well.
Absurd generalization. Different courses for different horses.

Bullshit! You psychologists have NO idea what you're talking about!!
Depression? No, he's just a lazy piece of shit who doesn't want to get out of bed.
ADHD? More like an out-of-control child who needs to be beat with a switch.
Schizophrenia? Try DEMONS!
You guys think EVERYBODY has a disorder or is MESSED UP in the HEAD. Guess what? YOU'RE WRONG!!!
My daddy raised me with a BELT AND A BIBLE and I turned out Just FINE. I didn't need a smarty pants psychologist!!

And trust me, I know from experience: you don't want your neighbors to hate you. They'll play bongos as loud as they can up until 11pm while you are studying. They'll play music when they wake up at 8:30 while you try to sleep in. They'll throw eggs on your door (and then have to clean them up--who got the last laugh on that one?). They'll purposefully eavesdrop on you, park so it's almost impossible for you to get in your car, and all sorts of other nasty things. I moved out of that place as fast as I fucking could.
So yeah, I'm a little reluctant now to tell anyone to shut up and fuck off when they are screaming outside my window (shared patio) at 3am.
You know a 'please be quite' might have sufficed...
[–]jdhas 3 points4 points5 points 11 hours ago
Please be quite...what, exactly?
[–]Propa_Tingz 8 points9 points10 points 12 hours ago
In addition, even they didn't do all of that, these kinds of loud obnoxious people would be likely to say "okay" and then continue being loud and noisy. Not to spite you, just because they are so inconsiderate that your request for consideration is forgotten about 5 minutes later.
[–]ceilinghole 7 points8 points9 points 12 hours ago
I'd just like to point out that there is absolutely a difference for someone who has social anxiety disorder and someone who has a normal level of social anxiety. It's like how most people have some level of fear of snakes or heights, but most people aren't diagnosed with phobias. Anxiety disorders are only diagnosed when the person has a fear that is so great that it causes the person significant distress and interferes with their life.
[–]nirvahnah 17 points18 points19 points 12 hours ago
Nah its a disorder. There is nothing wrong with politely asking people to lower their voices if its late and youre trying to sleep. Normal people will not 'hate' or 'insult' you for asking politely. Anxiety makes you worry about things in an illogical fashion resulting in being way more passive than you should be.
[–]AerialAces 5 points6 points7 points 11 hours ago
Meds for everyone!
[–]Phyltre 8 points9 points10 points 11 hours ago
You seem to be saying this in jest, as though the human body is some sort of model of perfection that meds can only corrupt. When we have treatments that can raise IQ and diminish aging, will you be there to argue against them?
Let's take a step back, when people are getting immunization shots are you standing there jeering "Meds for everyone!" while proudly displaying your measles as a badge of purity?
[–]AtomicDog1471 0 points1 point2 points 10 hours ago
Nice bit of armchair diagnostics there... you don't have a fucking disorder, you're shy.
[–]snakepaws 1 point2 points3 points 12 hours ago
Me too. :(
[–]PaintEater 5 points6 points7 points 12 hours ago
It has more to do with social skills than being big and strong. I'm a tiny girl, but I've learned that if I reword "shut the fuck up" in a much more polite way and say it with a cheerful tone and a big smile people will generally co-operate regardless of how tough they are.
[–]Intolorent_Redneck 11 points12 points13 points 12 hours ago
Actually, I wouldn't want to start a fight with a tiny girl. Everyone will get pissed at me if I do, and then I'll suffer the biggest ass kicking ever.
[–]PaintEater 3 points4 points5 points 12 hours ago
Well, to be fair, if you try to start a fight with someone for politely asking you to be quiet the ass kicking is deserved, whether it's a tiny girl or big guy.
But yes, if you beat up the girl everyone would hate you/want to kick your ass and if the girl beat you (I'm a martial artist, so I'd be fairly confident against a smaller guy) then you'd be mocked by everyone. Best to just not do anything, even if the girl is a complete ass. It is the plight of the boy.
[–]VINEWHIP 25 points26 points27 points 12 hours ago
That's because you have boobs.
[–]PaintEater 9 points10 points11 points 12 hours ago
Yes, they help at times, but their powers are useless against straight women. It's more just knowing how to talk to people. Don't sound aggressive or meek and people will generally react positively.
[–]Daedatheus 3 points4 points5 points 11 hours ago
Yeah if people are already rowdy and worked up and you come in all aggressive, they'll either laugh you off, beat you down and only get scared away if you're big and scary enough. But confidently and politely explain how they're inconveniencing you and people really seem to empathize a lot better, because then they feel that by being quiet or leaving the area they're working with you, not against you like when you start swearing at them.
[–]wiltedbouquet 5 points6 points7 points 12 hours ago
cool.
how do you deal with chronic offenders? you know, the neighbor who still plays his music too loud at 1 in the morning despite you having already talked to him on 5 separate occasions to please turn it down? he obviously doesn't get it, or doesn't care. so how do you deal with that?
Warn him that if it doesn't stop, police will get involved.
If it doesn't stop, involve the police. Noise laws FTW here.
If he still doesn't learn, he'll eventually go broke paying tickets and have to sell off his audio gear just to stay out of jail. >:) Silence achieved.
[–]PaintEater 2 points3 points4 points 11 hours ago
Thankfully, I haven't had that problem. That's something that's definitely not the norm. I made sure to say generally because there are some people that are just genuine assholes and won't care that their neighbor has to wake up at 5am for work, will purposefully be louder, whatever. In that situation I'd just start making noise complaints. Manager if it's in an apartment, if it's a house you'll just have to settle with cops.
[–]slashasdf 2 points3 points4 points 10 hours ago
Most places have noise laws, next time he plays music loud at night, simply call the police for a noise complaint.
A friend of mine has a neighbour like that, but after suffering the noise for a while she just started calling the police every time he played music really loud at night (between 2-4 AM usually). At one point the police told her neighbour: next time you won't just get a fine but we will take ALL your audio devices as well.
[–]kingoftown 3 points4 points5 points 13 hours ago
Because you don't want them to not like you so that maybe they will invite you to their hangouts sometime in the future
[–]the_iron_fist 3 points4 points5 points 11 hours ago
Hey man, just realize that no matter what you do, no one will give a fuck within an hour.
I used to be self conscious, then I had a realization that no one gives a rats ass about what you do unless it directly affects them. Not to sound negative or anything; it's not a bad thing... That's just how it is...
If I witness someone do/say something cringeworthy, I just say "poor guy" and move on.
Don't get caught up in what others think is what I am trying to get at. Be yourself. Do you. Fuck everyone else.
[–]thepizzlefry 2 points3 points4 points 11 hours ago
Seriously, it's just practice. I was fairly shy in college, then I became an RA. Confronting people became no big deal because I did it so often.
[–]Dekadenz 2 points3 points4 points 12 hours ago
Same thing here, my neighbors likes loud bad europe dance trash AND backstreet boys. Every now and then (once a month) they havin a party till 2-3 at night with singing and shouting and stuff. Meanwhile i sit here, raging in anger that i can't sleep, pulling my headphones out and playing freakin DOTA2 till they SHUT THE FUCK UP!!!!! How often i imagined goin up there, but first i dont wanna be THAT GUY and second i have no fucking clue how to tell them in a cool way to SHUT THE FUCK UP!!!!!
sigh
[–]akatherder 12 points13 points14 points 11 hours ago
Here is the logical progression:
Some people are making noise. It's only been like 2-3 minutes. They'll move on soon.
Fuck they're still making noise 5 minutes later.
GODDAMN it's been 10 minutes. I'll tell them to shut up. I need to calm down or they'll think I'm insane for screaming at the top of my lungs for them to be quiet instead of just asking.
15 minutes. I've waiting too long. They've clearly settled into a volume they are comfortable with and yelling now would just be weird after they've been talking the same way for so long.
[–]Turkey459 10 points11 points12 points 13 hours ago
I actually did yell at a guy who was blasting music in front of my dorm at like 3am. It was during finals week and I was already on edge after cramming. He lowered his music. It was a fucking amazing achievement.
...But I did sit in bed for at least 15 minutes deciding whether I was actually going to say something or just sit there and plot schemes.
[–]oo- 7 points8 points9 points 12 hours ago
...and afterwards you know if it had continued any minute longer you would have had so much rage and...nah let's just sleep now. But next time...
[–]Scooby_Movie 8 points9 points10 points 11 hours ago
It's okay bro. You can just say what you would've said to them tomorrow.
In the shower.
By yourself.
Quietly.
In your head.
Just in case one of them is pressing their ears against the bathroom door trying to see if you're talking shit behind their back.
[–]ValhallanWarrior 4 points5 points6 points 12 hours ago
I think my neighbor down the hall has the opposite problem. He yells "SHUT THE FUCK UP!" outside his window with zero inhibition to anyone being louder than normal talking. I find it hilarious how much he rages at people. He had a screaming match between him and bunch of drunk guys the other night.
[–]kvist 2 points3 points4 points 12 hours ago
My best advice : treating loud people as barking dogs, do you ever take dogs seriously? Problem fucking solved!
[–]Fonzoal 2 points3 points4 points 11 hours ago
Wow, I didn't know the adrenaline rushes were a normal thing. I thought I was just crazy. I do the same thing.
[–]TasteBudsInMyAsshole 0 points1 point2 points 12 hours ago
I press my asscheeks up against the window with my scrotum sticking to the glass. I win these battles often.
[–]jayspun 73 points74 points75 points 16 hours ago
glad i'm not the only pussy lying there psyching up to say something and just waiting for them to quiet
[–]Saint-Peer 76 points77 points78 points 13 hours ago
Roommate was having sex, didn't know it as I was listening to music. Knocked on his door, "DID YOU FEEL THAT EARTHQUAKE?!"
I should be quiet all the time.
[–]LeonTrotsky_on_speed 29 points30 points31 points 11 hours ago
accidentally passive-aggressive.
[–]niperwiper 1 point2 points3 points 10 hours ago
I'm never sure just how loud it is acceptable to get during sex, in regards to roommates. My girl gives very few fucks, but we both turn it down to about a 2 to 4 out of 10 as opposed to 10 out of 10 if we know that no one else is around. I like to be polite, but I'm not going to limit my joy THAT much.
[–]ogamii 9 points10 points11 points 13 hours ago
I do this with my own roommates, who insist on staying up all night.
[–]gm4 27 points28 points29 points 13 hours ago
I fucking hate that shit, cause then I'm the type of person who is extra quiet at 1pm as to not disturb the wastes of air who are still sleeping, then that night it repeats where they are loud as shit and don't care. Luckily now I only have 1 roommate.
[–]zootankhamun 36 points37 points38 points 13 hours ago
did you kill the others?
[–]ChickenShoes 2 points3 points4 points 10 hours ago
That depends, is it murder if they never find the bodies?

Honestly if you guys just told them to keep it down they probably would. No point getting pissed off if you never even tried to change the situation in the first place.

Good thought, but alcohol erases the conversations nightly.
[–]shiewt 1 point2 points3 points 13 hours ago
Same. I'm glad I got out of there and got my own place. The one time I actually said something, they just got louder. :/
[–]Caegs 11 points12 points13 points 14 hours ago
I get a rush just thinking of it....
[–]t1ck_t0ck 9 points10 points11 points 11 hours ago
I just call the police now (The local number, NOT 911). I got new neighbors about a year ago. My previous neighbor was a really nice old lady. My new neighbors are a family that can't do anything quietly. The act of throwing trash into their trash cans requires them to slam the top of the trash cans down as hard as possible AT LEAST 5 times.
They bought a tricked out Yukon Denali with a loud sound system and way too much bass shortly after they moved in. Their drive way is right next to my bedroom. So every time they'd come home, that fucker would be turned all the way up and they'd sit there doing god knows what with it blasting until they finally turned the car off and it would rattle my windows and walls. It was enough to piss the pope off.
Finally, what was enough for me was when I came home from work (I work nights, so I come home at around 2 am) and they were having a loud ass party. They were using the Yukon as the sound system for this thing. They saw me and didn't say a word. The adrenaline rush almost caused me to say something I would regret later to them but I just held it in and got inside. I picked up the phone and calmly called the police. About 2 minutes later there was a squad car in front of their house and that got shut down in a hurry.
The next day at around 2 pm the wife came over to my house, pissed, and asked me why I called "the fucking cops". I just smiled at her and shut the door on her. Now they hate me, but really, who cares? At least I can sleep now. Now, they all avoid looking at me when I'm outside and every time they pull into their driveway you can hear them turn the music down real fast.
[–]iSqueezeBunnies 18 points19 points20 points 13 hours ago
Exact same situation happened with me last night. I kept giving them mental deadlines of "five more minutes of your loud-assery and then Imma come down there and give you piece of my mind."
Well, five minutes became an hour but they did shut up after that... or else... I was so ready....
[–]THEpipeorgan 17 points18 points19 points 14 hours ago
i was an RA and still got kinda nervous doing it
[–]TheStarkReality 8 points9 points10 points 13 hours ago
Is it bad that I will always, without hesitation, lean out the window and yell at them to shut up?
[–]ExcellentGary 15 points16 points17 points 11 hours ago
I don't get the whole leaning out the window thing. I open the window a crack, place my mouth through the curtain and scream, "THE FUCKING WITCHES ARE COMING."
Infinitely spookier to the noisemakers as there's no frame of reference and they usually make haste their getaway.

What about when the semen comes out? Science states that when cumming the first sperm particle breaks the sound barrier causing a high frequency tone to be produced which alerts all dogs in a 2 mile radius of your ejaculation.
[–]Punkwolf 0 points1 point2 points 11 hours ago

[–]Yes_Nazi 3 points4 points5 points 11 hours ago*
Hoping makes it true. Perception is relative. Touching yourself is generally a unanimous activity, the only certainty.

[–]snailwithmonocle 4 points5 points6 points 12 hours ago
I respectfully dissagree. Socially skilled people can become awkward if they reduce contact with other humans in an open space for a long long time. Being alone can easily lead to self-questioning and more of the likes.
[–]whatwhatwhat82 6 points7 points8 points 11 hours ago
Also assholes in middle school can do this to you.
[–]WhipIash 2 points3 points4 points 12 hours ago
Who ever said that?
[–]DaRabidMonkey 4 points5 points6 points 13 hours ago
Considering the last time I asked people to be quiet it led to one of the kids threatening to beat me up, it's not entirely unwarranted. It was fucking ridiculous. Idiot freshmen need to learn this isn't high school, anymore—you don't need to be an over-compensating douche.
[–]frader12 2 points3 points4 points 13 hours ago
Honest question here, why don't more people sleep with ear plugs? They've been my life saver for the last 3 years.
[–]wiltedbouquet 3 points4 points5 points 12 hours ago
yeah those are pretty good but they don't help with very bass-y music. that shit travels through concrete.
[–]bzomesius 5 points6 points7 points 11 hours ago
The worst part is that many of the people that are inconsiderate enough to be loud at 3am are also the same ones that will become hostile towards you if you ask them to be quiet or go someplace else (even if you ask nicely).
I was vacationing at a resort recently and near the end of my stay the high school spring break/grad trip kids started to come. Unfortunately, I happened to get a group of them as neighbors. These fuckers would sit on the balcony at 6am talking and just making a bunch of noise. Now, I'm 23 and understand that people like to party but it was 6am and I wanted to sleep. They literally could have gone anywhere on the resort and do the same thing. I asked them to please be quiet cuz I was trying to sleep and was greeted with a smirk and an "ok". When I closed the balcony door, one of the guys there remarked, "Pfft, now we're just gonna be louder."
tl:dr People are assholes and when confronted, rather than apologize, will become defensive, even more annoying and/or confrontational
[–]balsamicpork 5 points6 points7 points 13 hours ago
Last Wednesday night there people were outside a bar just blasting some music from their car. It was loud enough to shake my walls, which, while I'm across the street for the bar, is absolutely absurd.
So I called the bar an told the bartender "Hey, there are people outside the bar blasting their shitty music. Can you tell them in 1:30 in the fucking morning?"
She replied with "yeah, give me a sec. Hear her screaming at them outside, then she gets back on the phone and says "fuck you"
I stayed up due to being pissed.
[–]RomanPolchampski 13 points14 points15 points 12 hours ago
But, why would she say "Fuck You" to you? What did you do?!
[–]TheVicarofChrist 3 points4 points5 points 12 hours ago
Nothing annoys me more than people being incredibly noisy when someone is sleeping near by. So many occasions of blasting out of my room, hair gone crazy, barely keeping my eyes open... "HEY! KEEP IT DOWN PEOPLE ARE TRYING TO SLEEP!!!" Have some fucking decency! Jesus!

[–]drummer7 3 points4 points5 points 11 hours ago
Reminds me of a recent incident when I was studying in a library. Guy came in and sat 2 desks down with his ipod earbuds blaring. Like, I could hear everything. So I got up, tapped him on the shoulder and politely asked him to turn it down. He apologized and obliged, and when I got up later he stopped me and apologized again, saying he was in a loud study area and forgot. People generally aren't all bad.
(Of course, I couldn't focus for like 5 minutes after I told him to turn it down because I was so amped up, but still...)
[–]rjnr 4 points5 points6 points 13 hours ago
I can go one step further by suggesting that the adrenaline rush of THINKING of asking them to be quiet would keep me awake.
[–]linasas123 4 points5 points6 points 12 hours ago
Dude, I don't even have neighbours and I can still feel the rush just by thinking what'd happen.
[–]DaSasquatch 2 points3 points4 points 12 hours ago
This happened to me not too long ago. My 22 year old brother had about 13 of his friends getting wasted and loud on the lawn at 3am. Usually I wouldn't do anything but stress myself out all night. Even though I'm a big guy, the anxiety can be overwhelming at times but this time I decided to man up and went out there and told them to get the fuck out and even made them clean up after themselves before they left. I was so proud of myself.
[–]YSCapital 2 points3 points4 points 12 hours ago
Happened to me a few weeks ago. Loud party outside my apartment at 2 A.M on a Sunday. Opened my door yelled "It's 2'o clock in the morning, STFU" and shut my door. Laid awake trying to fall asleep but full of adrenaline and just laid there till 5.
[–]price-iz-right 0 points1 point2 points 12 hours ago
Butter the floor...did it to my upstairs neighbour who neglected to shut the fuck up everyday he plowed his cow of a wife after multiple talkings to. I give you 2 chances...if I have to talk to you twice the 3rd time I'm going to start fucking with you. I would also grab a broom and slam he floor every time I heard the cow mooing incessantly. It was always at like 3 AM when I'm trying to sleep. Sex couldn't be that great if the moaning suddenly ceases when I slam the roof 10 times. I also contemplated leaving a dead fish in the hallway but the broom slamming fixed the problem rather quickly.
[–]daveyjonesmcgee 0 points1 point2 points 11 hours ago
Shit i do not know where your from but where i'm at if i go outside to complain about noise i already have to be pumped and ready to scrap, cuz muthafuckas will straight up get in face and say make em'. And calling the 5-0 is out of the question.
[–]stencilizer 2 points3 points4 points 11 hours ago
A couple of months ago in Israel, a man was stabbed to death when asking teenage kids (Hebrew: ערסים) to be quiet. This man had a baby girl.
Aaah, when memes become reality. Or the other way around?
[–]meowForum 3 points4 points5 points 12 hours ago
Call the cops. If the people are drunk, they probably won't listen to you, not to mention you're just adding to the noise.
[–]DrizzleFoSnizzle 5 points6 points7 points 11 hours ago
It may take the cops awhile to get there, but the satisfaction of seeing the strobing blue and a possible tasering, makes up for it.

I lived in a noisy building at one point and found earplugs to be an ideal solution. I got a good night's sleep and my neighbors enjoyed their parties. Everybody won.
[–]dunphystar 1 point2 points3 points 12 hours ago
Not to mention all the different scenarios and their outcomes going on in your head.
[–]Doofe_N7 1 point2 points3 points 12 hours ago
I guess I'm not that socially awkward then, since when this happens in my dorm building, I just stay in bed and yell "Shut the fuck up!" in the direction of my door. Zero fucks given on my part.

It seems like nobody got any sleep last night! You, me, my mother, my two sisters, and three of my friends! Dafuq happened last night!?
[–]Pheylan 2 points3 points4 points 12 hours ago
I do the same, but with my sister. She's often on her phone at like 2am, and she's much louder than she thinks. One night it got so bad that I fucking lost it, burst into her room, grabbed her phone, threw it at a concrete wall and went back to bed without saying a word. Felt fucking amazing.

Adrenaline rush of screaming "shut the fuck up!" also kept me awake. There, I fixed it.

Oh my god. The same thing happened to me on Friday Night. The next door neighbours cousin came over and rang and banged on his door for over an hour and a half. Its a god damn townhouse you think I can't hear that? It started shortly after 1am! But I didn't want to interfere because I always seem to get mixed up in that neighbours stuff. One day I found a senile old woman with no shoes and a purse full of food sitting on his steps. Another time the police came to our house and said someone in that house called 911 and no one was answering the door and have we heard or seen anything. Finally got the nerve to poke my head out the door but instead of saying "SHUT THE FUCK UP" I said, "Is there something I can help you with? Do you need me to call the police?"

I live downtown, close to the pubs and nightclubs so I'm used to it being somewhat loud outside over the weekends. But one night it was really bad. There were people standing right by my door having a conversation.
I listened and waited for them to leave but after a few minutes I've had enough. I could identify three different voices, two male and one female. I just couldn't ignore it so I decided to ask them to leave, I got dressed up and took out my pocked knife, just in case something would go south - I've had some shady people turn up at my doorstep in the dead of night. I opened the door slowly and surprised the heck out the people.. turns out they had just scored some coke and were in the process of snorting it when I opened.
It startled me also that they were doing coke, I just though they were talking and probably smoking. But I remained calm and told them I was trying to get some sleep and if they would mind just going someplace else other than standing outside the door, that it was none of my business what they were doing - I just wanted to get some sleep. One of the dudes just flips at me and starts shouting and threatening me, that I should just fuck off. But the luck was on my side because the other people held him back, calmed him down and apologized. They finally left after a brief conversation, I shook hands with the calm dude and wished them a good night.
I couldn't go to bed for two hours because of the adrenaline. I was terrified that the angry guy would show up again and do something.
[–]imprettyflyforawifi 1 point2 points3 points 11 hours ago
I had this with my noisy flatmate. I'd even write irate text messages to her and then just delete them and continue to stew in bed. The few times I did say/shout something the adrenaline afterwards would just keep me awake for even longer...
[–]Bryguy100 0 points1 point2 points 11 hours ago
I had this problem all through middle/highschool. Must be rough with social anxiety as an adult.
[–]jlamb42 1 point2 points3 points 11 hours ago
I was with my g/f in bed and there was a noisy couple literally right outside the window at 2:00 a.m., I had to open the window and tell a guy in the process of getting a blowjob to please go away. They ran off embarassed as shit and I have to live with the guilt of pulling the most un-bro move ever.

When I was younger my roommates were always texting me from bed to ask me to be quite in the other room, or sometimes they would even dare to venture out of their bedroom to tell me a sob story about how they had to get up early the next day. In the end we reached a compromise. They started to wear ear plugs.
Now that I have school, work, and responsibility, I usually have a pair ear plugs next to my bed. I know how the fight runs its course and I would rather just jump to the end.
[–]AwkwardAsHell 1 point2 points3 points 10 hours ago
I used to live next to a bar. When I moved in it was quiet. Then a new ass hole bought the bar and started having live bands. I called the police several times and they did nothing. I eventually contacted my state, they have a noise ordinance. They sent someone out and they fined him. I don't know how much. He continued with the noise. We moved and he eventually went out of business, but it still bothers me. I hope he burns in hell.

This is me. <rant> Continually. I bought a house in a nice neighborhood. All my neighbors were awesome. My next door neighbor, Steve, was an alcoholic. He came home at 2am, drunk, and passed out quiet. Then he moved to Texas and let his daughter use the house, sans rent. I'm an insomniac, anything wakes me up, it's hard enough to fall asleep without her and her loser friends talking right outside my bedroom window where I can hear every word. White trash to the max too.
I've talked with them. I've yelled at them. I've negotiated with them. I've made peace with them. I've given them alternatives (I can't hear or smell anything if they're on their back porch, and nobody else in the neighborhood can either). I've threatened to call the cops. Nothing has stopped them. It's gotten better from what it was, but I had to walk out the front porch friday night and yelled, "Hey, what the **** ever happened to the back porch?" The response? "Was that really necessary?" "YES! ITS FUCKING 11:30 AND I HAVE TO GET UP IN 5 HOURS! Slam the door" No sleep for me 'til 1am. Sheesh.
They've also managed to piss off just about every other neighbor in the area, who are now calling the cops on them. I doubt they've paid the $3600 (yes, thirtysix hundred dollars) fine they got when they were lighting off fireworks in the middle of august and started a grass fire.
Freaking redneck retards. Now just waiting for the right opportunity to call the cops.
