It's not about the downvote, it's about sending a message

Why has he not got a mouth guard in?

If I recall correctly this was "King of Pancrase" 1996 in Japan. There, pancrase was more like a big "show", although the fighting was completely real, it was kind of like professional wrestling when it comes to the entertainment aspect. Therefore, a lot of the regulations you see today in MMA or any combat sport, didn't apply here, although they didnt allow closed fist punches, only palm strikes (which can be even deadlier). Much has changed since then. Check out the early years of the UFC, there were no rules, as they allowed head-butts, ball punching (i think there is a .gif floating around somewhere of some epic ball punching involving the same guy you see in this .gif), hair pulling, eye gouging, head stomping.. i think the only thing they didnt allow was biting. I am pretty sure mouthguards or any equipment at that time was optional. sorry for the massive reply, but I really enjoy combat sports!

A classic match -- Jo Son vs Keith Hackney. Son later played the Odd Job parody in Austin Powers, and is currently pending trial for murder of his cellmate while he was serving a life sentence for violent rapes. He is a fucked up dude.

Your'e right! I haven't seen it for so long I mistook Jo Son for being Frank Shamrock just because I could only remember the red shorts.

When Was Till Lindemann a wrestler?

[–]Wec4evar2 2 points3 points ago

That's not Till Lindemann. That's Frank Shamrock.

[–]supafupa 1 point2 points ago

The guy getting smacked in the face (Frank Shamrock) lost the fight in the gif by TKO. Kinda makes your analogy fall apart.

I had a post hit the front page with around 1400 upvotes, shortly thereafter it was down into the 800's... not a complete failure, but I feel it's enough to negate your statement.

[–]catonakeybrdinspace 0 points1 point ago

Keep fighting the good fight, sir.

[–]ansate 1 point2 points ago

He could've really fucked Shamrock up (even by accident) if he'd hit him in the chin when his tongue was sticking out.

It's all fun and games until somebody gets a boner.

[–]vanguard_anon 0 points1 point ago

For anybody wondering, this is Pancrase. It was popular before the UFC took over the fighting world and it didn't allow punches. The bald guy doing the hitting, Bas Rutten, developed a palm strike technique that made him nearly as effective as somebody with a close fist.

The guy making the faces loses this fight shortly afterwards in large part due to the abuse he mocks in this gif.

[–]Birdslapper -2 points-1 points ago

Is anyone else sitting here yelling at the guy to form a fist and punch in him the face?

[–]Yoglets 3 points4 points ago

Closed-fist strikes are not allowed in Pancrase.

[–]Birdslapper -3 points-2 points ago

oh lol ok

[–]ajbags26 2 points3 points ago

watch the video and youll see why he doesnt.
