My personal issue with the five ways is that it's nothing more than pointing at effects in the universe and calling it god. There is no actual proof.

The jurors had more evidence in the Casey Anthony trial and she still walked.

Shh, we're irrationally bashing atheists in this thread. Logical discussion just gets in the way of that.

My bad, my bad, I'll make my exit

Honestly I love getting into rational and logical debates with atheists and those of other religions. I truly do enjoy it. However I have had this exact issue with r/atheism. The issue is not that all atheists are like this, it is that people commonly run into radical atheists. Radical atheists are the same thing as radical Christians. They do not understand their own beliefs because they have taken no time to think about them or research them. They hear one person make an argument one time that they are not intelligent enough to argue against, and so they decide to convert. Then they rely on that one argument whenever their beliefs are questioned, refusing to listen to any logical arguments, relying on the opposition to be a complete idiot. The result being that they act like all Christians are women hating, gay killing, condom destroying, uptight, creationist assholes. This is far from the case. Not all atheists are like this, I truly enjoy talking and logically debating my atheist friends, however, r/atheism is, in essence, god bad if church say good that mean bad to cuz church bad. I've actually had an atheist tell me that scientific evidence, having nothing to do with god mind you, is meaningless and wrong because the findings agreed with the Catholic Church on one of their many stances, saying that the church obviously bribed all the researchers, or threatened them, into making false claims to support the church, because the church is evil and has no logical thought and as a result is just making lies to cover things up. Now, I understand most atheists are not like this, however I will state that the majority of my experiences on r/atheism have been like this one. And in defense the majority of my experience on r/Christianity has been the same, except the atheists are apparently faking facts just to lie to people. The problem is not with atheism good sir, it is with the idiots that are on r/atheism that have no idea what they are talking about, and fail to use the logical thinking they claim to love. In truth, r/atheism and r/Christianity are the same joke with a slightly different idiot telling it.

I have never met a single atheist like this and I find it highly unlikely that they exist. You are basically asking me to believe that there is a group of people out there who start from a position of faith but will convert away from faith at the drop of a hat but then refuse to return to faith when exactly the same level of argument is applied from the other side. There are a number of logical issues here, the first of which being that you present the example of a person who goes from being incredibly gullible to incredibly stubborn without any motivation. The second problem is that you insinuate there is a logical argument for being religious when that is factually incorrect: the whole point of religion is faith, meaning belief without proof. If there were a logical argument for religion, we would all be religious. There isn't, so only those willing to believe based on faith alone are religious. That's essentially the point; it is your faith without proof that makes you worthy.

The result being that they act like all Christians are women hating, gay killing, condom destroying, uptight, creationist assholes.

/r/atheism has never pretended to be anything but a self-gratifying echo chamber. Any time somebody comes into that subreddit and expects to have a debate with atheists without hearing some feedback from the echo chamber has missed the point. I certainly join in on this myself regularly in that subreddit; that doesn't mean that I believe all Christians are alike. It's just the point of the funhouse that is /r/atheism. You would not walk into the Democratic Convention and demand a debate with the party leader over welfare policy. That's because the Convention is not there to encourage debate. It is there for the base to be among like-minded individuals, share anecdotes and jokes, be purposefully stereotypical and over the top, and certainly not give equal time or recognition to opposition. There are different venues for equal recognition. That doesn't mean you can't be there, it just means there is no one concerned with accommodating you and you shouldn't be surprised. If that's what you're looking for, try some of the other atheist subs listed in the sidebar. You will find the same people behaving differently because they are not in the party room anymore.

He was probably trolling you. If you come into /r/atheism with an antagonistic message, expect to get trolled.

Now, I understand most atheists are not like this, however I will state that the majority of my experiences on r/atheism have been like this one.

And that is great. That's what it is there for.

And in defense the majority of my experience on r/Christianity has been the same, except the atheists are apparently faking facts just to lie to people.

You are implying that the atheists are faking facts but the christians are not? Do you have any grounds for this assertion whatsoever?

The problem is not with atheism good sir, it is with the idiots that are on r/atheism that have no idea what they are talking about, and fail to use the logical thinking they claim to love.

Don't mistake no knowing what they are talking about with not caring.

In truth, r/atheism and r/Christianity are the same joke with a slightly different idiot telling it.

Then stop going there. Problem solved.

[–]Irma_Gerd 0 points1 point ago
