I always hated the dentist growing up. It hurt like fuck. The pain in the teeth was unbearable if I had to have a filling. It was just fucking horrible.

Then when I turned 18 and had to start going to appointments myself rather than my mum taking all of us, I said, fuck it, I'm never going to the dentist again. So 4 or 5 years passed and I didn't go until I got a huge cavity that I left for ages and really had to go because it was hurting a lot. To be honest, the trip to the dentist wasn't really that bad and I didn't feel any actual pain, although it was uncomfortable.

Then one day in conversation my mum comes out with "Yes, that old dentist you all used to go to when you were younger was horrible. He refused to use anaesthetic and told me you didn't need it. He was a horrible man. You used to hate the dentist."

And then it dawned on me, I had grown up going to see a sadistic cunt of a dentist who did all my fillings without anaesthetic, and he convinced my mum it was fine and normal.

I had a somewhat similar experience but my Mother eventually changed our family dentist after the crazy old fuck slapped a 7 year old me because I was crying from pain during my first cavity filling.

This is definitely a tangent but my hygenist always gets really close to me to the point that her boobs are touching me while she's leaning over to clean my teeth. She's young and attractive, but I'm a straight female so it doesn't make me ants-in-my-pants uncomfortable, it just makes me wonder if she's more careful with guy patients or if she just doesn't care, and whether she has ever inadvertently turned on some 13-year-old boy who got really excited over a brush with breasts.

I really don't get why people are so afraid of the dentist. I think they are awesome (along with hygienists!) I do my best to be the better patient because I know there is a lot of people who probably give them a hard time, (besides my teeth lol.)

Oh fuck...one time while getting fillings, I had an anxiety attack. I was shaking so much that my ass was lifting out of the dental chair and apparently, that makes drilling teeth even more difficult. So now I have to be sedated slightly before seeing the dentist.

When I was a kid, I remember my first loose tooth and I was telling the dentist about how I get to pull it out soon and tooth fairy blah blah. He acted really interested, turned his back for a second, and then pretended to take a closer look at yanked it out. I had no words for a few seconds.. my eyes just filled with tears and squeaked out, "Why would you do that?" Held that grudge for 7 years until we moved to another dentist.

I went to the dentist recently for the first time since high school and I actually really enjoyed it. I used to hate it because of the wait, Novocaine and just the general discomfort. Now I enjoy the sense of progress. The pain makes me feel like I've earned something. I'm really looking forward to my next appointment tomorrow.
