A subreddit about photography techniques and styles.

Only pictures taken by the submitter belong here, so users can directly interact with the photographer.

Please do not bother submitting if you are not going to reply to comments! Also, paintings, illustrations, and snapshots or images with little photographic value do NOT belong here.

  • We recommend: flickr or imgur. However please note that imgur deletes the photo's metadata and also does lossy compression on larger files.

  • Submitting a link to a blog is discouraged.

  • Using URL shorteners will probably land you in the spam bin.

  • Higher resolution images tend to attract more attention.

This is totally fake. I can clearly see the pixels.

It looks like there's one of those bug nets in the window. The raindrops got caught in some of the cells, and were casting a shadow onto the blinds. Is that what's going on?

[–]domotek 6 points7 points ago

It could just be a regular screen window.

[–]Shlldn 5 points6 points ago

I think so. I would never have imagined it could create such a beautiful effect!

[–]Mo_Peaks 1 point2 points ago

It's a fly screen. Very common here in Australia.

And that's exactly what's going on.

[–]palmedrose -1 points0 points ago

yeh, it's a manmade screen collecting water. hardly natural.

[–]z0han 6 points7 points ago

This photo made my jaw drop. I don't remember the last time I saw such an original photo!

you may have set up the shot nicely and lit it nicely and took a nicely focused pic. that doesn't automatically make it a good photo. good execution, yes. there are a billion good executed photos. but most of the time the story or moment captured wins regardless of how well executed you think it is.

dude. take a breath and don't take the internet so serious. no one says you are not doing any hardwork. i was hoping to open your eyes a little, and make you think a little bit. this is how one grows.

Reddit is really random, you deserved more upvotes than you got but that's just the way random /r/itap lurkers vote.

[–]Calibansdaydream 0 points1 point ago

You posted a picture that not everybody thought was that awesome. If you're an artist, you should be aware that the most widely appealing photos aren't the best, and sometimes the best get the least amount of recognition. I looked at your photo and it was good, but unless I'm missing something, it was rather one dimensional. Maybe that's why nobody upvoted it. It didn't leave much room to think about what the picture meant after the title, or it didn't leave much to the imagination, or it wasn't just a photo that made you say "huh, that's pretty neat" Instead of criticizing others for lack of appreciation of your photo...maybe look inwards to find why your photo wasn't appreciated? But if you're really doing it for the sake of art, why do you care how many people up vote it. You should only make it for yourself, and those who get it, good, those who don't, well they're missing out on what you created and are trying to relay to them. If you're making art and taking pictures simply for mass appeal, you're going to have a long and boring time ahead of you. Or try a different subreddit. I don't know, I'm not a photographer, just a layman offering whatever advice I can.

Edit: Also, I went and looked at your pictures you have been uploading. Here's another piece of advice. Stop uploading pictures that are so large. Upload easier to manage ones and if people ask for a better resolution, give them that link. And if you want mass appeal use imgur. Flickr won't work with RES.

Why you gotta be so critical?

[–]ThatDoesntEven -2 points-1 points ago

Thank you for actually making sense, instead of just insulting me. I don't usually take any attention to upvotes, I just got annoyed at people choice of "amazing". If my photo wasn't good, I'd rather people tell me how to improve it. I don't always want people to love my work, I just want to share what I love with a community I love. Today I was having a bad day, and I probably over-reacted.

[–]Calibansdaydream 1 point2 points ago

I think there is a subreddit for photo/art critiques? So if this is something you are genuinely interested, i would check that out. My biggest piece of advice is to not give away the meaning in the title. Make it harder to understand. For example, with your lightbulb picture, instead of calling it the end of light, allude to something personal in your life where you felt all happiness or all inspiration disappear from you, then describe that using words others will be able to understand and link to their own personal life. It's not a message you want to convey, but rather a feeling. Make sense? (Disclaimer: I'm not a photographer or an artist, but I have lots of friends who do this stuff for a living)

[–]ThatDoesntEven 0 points1 point ago

That's a very good point, thank you. I will definitely try to improve my title system. Can you now explain why even though I apologized, everyone is downvoting everything I comment? It's making me never want to come to this sub again.

[–]Calibansdaydream 1 point2 points ago

it's reddit

[–]ThatDoesntEven 0 points1 point ago

It's pretty funny how much the people on here behave exactly like the people they complain about. Anyway, my rants here are done.

[–]ulrikft -3 points-2 points ago

So, a bad photo of a broken lightbulb is somewhat good? This image over here is a very good example of a good eye, yours is not. Stop whining.

Its like tetris irl.

[–]clicketyclack 1 point2 points ago

It's The Matrix.

[–]DeviousMrBlonde 0 points1 point ago

Fantastic. What is this voodoo?

[–]SockPants 5 points6 points ago

There's a wire mesh that captures all of the drops into square shapes on the outside of the window. Totally awesome (I want one of these now just so this happens).

[–]devicerandom 0 points1 point ago

Mother of God. That's awesome.

[–]spanktravision 0 points1 point ago

Almost looks like digital desert MARPAT. very cool.

[–]RandomFrenchGuy 1 point2 points ago

Quick, decode it, it's a message from the cloud pixies !

[–]Cierahh 0 points1 point ago

I had to stop and think what could be causing those shadows. Silly me. I love it, though!

[–]Baeocystin 1 point2 points ago

Wow. Stunning photo, and it made me immediately think of Conway's game of life. Thanks for sharing it with us!

[–]gregdbowen 1 point2 points ago

OK someone count the 1s and 0s and determine the distribution ratio. I am guessing 50 50.

[–]BigSolar 0 points1 point ago

So. Many. Missingnos.

[–]asacchet[S] 0 points1 point ago

Thanks for the feedback! This photo was taken the day after I had brand new screens and windows installed, so that may have something to do with the way the water collected on the outside. Here's another photo from a different angle.

The US Army would like to contact you to create their new uniform pattern, for when we need to hide behind some blinds...
