I live in the bible belt and my parents are hardcore fundies. I used to do very poorly in science class, because the bible belt doesn't foster intelligent thinking. This changed when I discovered Reddit and [1] /r/atheism and I finally realized that I am scientifically and logically minded and became an atheist. I started making As in science, especially biology, when my step-father pulled me out of class one day. He said "Why are you doing good in science? You know it's just lies from the devil!" I couldn't take any more. I said "BECAUSE I'M AN ATHEIST!!!! gOD DOESN'T EXIST AND SCIENCE IS THE ONLY TRUE PATH!!!!!" it was at this point where he had had enough. He took me out of public school and kept me locked in the basement with only a bible all day. There were no windows in the basement and no clocks either. The only way I could tell the time is when my mother came in to feed me, which was once a day. None of the meals had cool ranch doritos or mountain dew, which are my favourite foods. One day, I noticed that there was some chlorine and amonia in the basement, since they stored cleaning stuff down there. Knowing science, I knew I could mix the two and create chlorine gas. I knew that I could use this to escape. The next day, my fundie mother came in to deliver my food and I overpowered her and got out of the basement. I released the chlorine and while my fundie parents were distracted I ran out of the front door. I ran for hours and used my phone to visit reddit and find an atheist safehouse. I later went to college and got a degree in science. I have not seen my parents in 3 years.

Well, let me tell you something. Since the fall of the Roman Empire, Christianity has ruled the Western world and anyone who dared oppose it was labelled a 'heretic', a 'non-believer' or a 'witch'. This included people that were from other religions (Islam, Buddhism, Sikhism, etc.) or people with NO religion - atheists. Since the fall of the Roman Empire, Christianity has actively OPPRESSED these people. Not only that, but any attempts at free thought were smothered by the Christian church. Scientists such as Copernicus and Galileo bravely challenged the Church’s beliefs – Copernicus proposed heliocentrism, the theory that the Sun is at the centre of the Solar System and not the Earth, and Galileo proposed that there were moons orbiting other planets. Both of these scientists were dealt with in different ways by the church – Copernicus was executed and Galileo placed under house imprisonment. We now know because of SCIENCE (something that religion is against) that both of these theories are true. So, using reason and logic, what can we conclude? That religion is holding back development all over the world by oppressing people. Scientists – the people that make these developments – are oppressed by Christianity because they are atheists. In fact, almost all atheists across the world are oppressed by Christianity. They are removing our rights, they are firing us from our jobs, they are beating us in the streets, they are lynching us, they are sending us to prison – just because we chose reason and logic over a magic sky man. And yet, they say that there is a war on Christianity? Most of the US government is Christian. Every president is a Christian. Every rich person in the US is Christian. Every judge is Christian. Every governor. Every police officer. Every position of power is held by Christians. So, what can we conclude from this? There is a war on atheism and freethinking. Christianity’s brainwashing is creating hate for atheists across the world. It is making atheists have to hide their true beliefs in fear of oppression. However, all is not lost. There is one haven in the world where atheists can go to be safe - Sweden. Sweden is a utopia for atheism, science, logic and reason. So, all you atheists reading this, end the oppression now. Leave your country behind and go to Sweden where you can live a happy life. Strong, then kill.

Long after the last remaining Christian loses their faith, long after the answers of the universe have become more clear than we could ever imagine, we will still visit churches with wide-eyed wonder. Just as the faithful once flocked in awe of a higher power, we will return with equal awe - of humanity's humble roots and prideful ignorance. Where the priest once stood to explain the heavens, a tour guide will lean over a podium, perhaps re-enacting a sermon. As we stand out in the pews and admire the architecture and listen to a reading from the gospels, we will listen with the respectful but knowing smirk a person ought to wear at the Pantheon or the Pyramids of Giza. Yes, I am glad we have churches, but I am especially glad that we will preserve them eternally, even beyond the death of Christianity itself. That way we can visit them when we're not busy having our thetans checked and praising Xenu.

I fucking LOVE [1] /r/atheism. I used to believe in all that creationism and sinful science bullshit but you have made me see the proverbial "light". I'm pro choice and pro gay marriage. Mainly because I've actually READ the bible and I know that what Jesus actually said was something along the lines of "love everybody regardless of anything. Forgive unconditionally to find true happiness". And weather you believe that Jesus raised the dead or not, I feel like that's something we can all get behind. I also realize that the bible really is the worlds oldest game of telephone and it can't be taken for absolute truth. I guess the reason I'm posting this is because I want you guys to know that there is such thing as free thinking religious people. So if you wanna talk god, or ask me something.
