Rules

  1. No screenshots, or pictures with added or superimposed text. This includes image macros, comics, info-graphics and most diagrams. Text (e.g. a URL) serving to credit the original author is exempt.

  2. No gore or porn. NSFW content must be tagged.

  3. No personal information. This includes anything hosted on Facebook's servers, as they can be traced to the original account holder. Stalking & harassment will not be tolerated.

  4. No solicitation of votes (including "cake day" posts), posts with their sole purpose being to communicate with another redditor, or [FIXED] posts. DAE posts go in /r/DoesAnybodyElse. "Fixed" posts should be added as a comment to the original image.

  5. Submissions must link directly to a specific image file or to an image hosting website with minimal ads. We do not allow blog hosting of images ("blogspam"), but links to albums on image hosting websites are okay. URL shorteners are prohibited.

  • If your submission appears to be filtered but definitely meets the above rules, please send us a message with a link to the comments section of your post (not a direct link to the image). Don't delete it as that just makes the filter hate you!

  • If you come across any rule violations, please report the submission or message the mods and one of us will remove it!

Please also try to come up with original post titles. Submissions that use certain clichés/memes will be automatically tagged with a warning.

i want that

[–]xORioN63 108 points109 points ago

This would be an awesome Pixar movie.

[–]Dumpykins 12 points13 points ago

:/ now I really want to see this. someone make it happen!

[–]iDiedYesterday 12 points13 points ago

Not shitty at all.

[–]pokker 2 points3 points ago

Holy fuck! You call that shitty?

I can't do it any better using photoshop :/

[–]skullk1d 2 points3 points ago

Pretty sure that's done in 3dsmax...maybe maya?

[–]shitty3Dmodel 6 points7 points ago

Actually I'm using Sculptris for the modelling and Blender for the lighting/texturing :) Both are completely free.

[–]derekdanger 2 points3 points ago

If there was one more head in that picture, it could have been a godzilla movie

[–]Typhun 73 points74 points ago

I'm actually surprised. Eggs typically only have enough biological material in them to support one embryo. I wonder how those two compare in size to the rest of their clutch, in both size and mental ability.

[–]Glowmus 145 points146 points ago

We should hire an investi-gator to find out!

[–]asisingh 9 points10 points ago

I think that someone put two baby crocs inside the egg and took the picture.

[–]MaeveningErnsmau 5 points6 points ago

Apparently not.

I say "apparently", because, you know, Daily Mail.

[–]asisingh 1 point2 points ago

But China.

[–]MaeveningErnsmau 2 points3 points ago

I wouldn't be surprised if there were more birth defects and mutations among all specie in modern industrialized China.

[–]derekdanger 5 points6 points ago

No idea why, I read that in his voice

[–]horrorfetish 14 points15 points ago

It happens fairly commonly in snakes. Large breeders of course, see it more often than smaller breeders, but it's certainly no rare event. The snakes that hatch out as twins tend to grow to normal size and seem perfectly healthy so I see no reason why the Crocs woudln't either.

[–]LastRedCoat 16 points17 points ago

How would one devise an IQ test for crocodiles?

[–]frankenbean 16 points17 points ago

I think having them take the SATs once they hit their teens should be "standardized" enough.

[–]MaeveningErnsmau 0 points1 point ago

Ability to perform basic tasks efficiently compared against others, same as any other "intelligence" test.

[–]NineteenthJester 0 points1 point ago

Apparently you're James Marsden in disguise.

[–]LastRedCoat 0 points1 point ago

Oh yes, that. sigh...

[–]Irish33 0 points1 point ago

If you put a piece of meat in front of a croc and he doesn't eat it, he is broken and must be taken in for repair.

[–]galumpher 5 points6 points ago

I've seen plenty of chicken eggs with two standard-sized yolks, so I'm guessing that's the case here--I'm more curious about how well they grow together in such a restrictive environment. I know fuck-all about how big a baby croc should be, though, so maybe they're undersized.

[–]frozenpanda87 4 points5 points ago

You may have seen two yolk, but never two chicks. It is not possible for a chicken egg to support two chicks growing at once. Not enough nutrients for growth. I am guessing reptiles use less nutrients to grow.. My initial thought on the picture was no way they would survive more than a week

[–]galumpher 0 points1 point ago

Heh, turns out "twin chicks" is not as sketchy a search term as I thought: first result. Seems to be very very rare, not surprisingly.

(And I'm sincerely not being snide here, I just got curious and it's pretty fascinating.)

[–]frozenpanda87 0 points1 point ago

Never say never on the internet, sorry sir

[–]phentanill 0 points1 point ago

Same could be said for human uteruses though.

Or is it uterii?

[–]Typhun 7 points8 points ago

No, the same couldn't be said of the human uterus. The mammalian uterus has a placenta that constantly exchanges nutrients with the embryo. The egg comes pre-packaged with all the nutrients required for the short gestation of the embryo.

[–]Telid 1 point2 points ago

The egg comes pre-packaged with all the nutrients required for the short gestation of the embryo.

Like trying to build a lego-kit that comes with two instruction booklets?

[–]Typhun 2 points3 points ago

Now here is something cool to consider. That egg also comes with all the instruction books on how to make whatever organism it is supposed to develop into. Everything is developing in that egg autonomously, on a predestined course set up by millions of years of evolution. Every stage of development has transcription factors associated with it that are instructing cells how to differentiate. Those cells differentiate, and produce more transcription factors that either inhibit or promote the same or other transcription factors.

[–]Telid 1 point2 points ago

I read that and came to the conclusion that the instructions are written in Finnish. The pictures are helpful, but the text isn't going to get me any closer to understanding. And thus, I end up with spare parts - like an appendix.

[–]Typhun 1 point2 points ago

Current popular theory for the appendix is that it is a bacterial storage center. Should for some reason the bacteria in your intestines have some sort of massive die off, then the bacteria in the appendix come in and repopulate the intestines.

[–]Daciex 0 points1 point ago

TIL what a clutch is

[–]greeneagle692 0 points1 point ago

i'm pretty sure two yolks would give enough mats to make two baby crocodiles

[–]TrimeresurusRex 0 points1 point ago

In my experience, not that differently. I've worked with reptiles for quite a while, but the main time I used to see this was when I used to help out in pet stores in younger years and we had the occasional leopard gecko egg hatch with two neonates in - I never noticed any significant difference in size or behaviour to 'normal' individuals, and they still grew at the same rate and got to the same size. I have also had friends who are reptile breeders tell me of occasions where they have had two animals in an egg as well. Due to the amount of intense breeding that goes on in the pet trade to satisfy demand and the questionable genetics involved I guess the chances of it may be artificially increased.

[–]peex 0 points1 point ago

Well it is really common on chicken eggs. But usually one of them dies before hatching.

[–]neverelax 0 points1 point ago

Interesting, I always wondered about eggs with two yolks. And if they were fertile, would there be the chance for two chickens from the same egg.

[–]Typhun 0 points1 point ago

I think an error in the assumption of a lot of people is that two yolks yield two embryos. I'm just not sure that is an accurate assumption. Nearly all organisms that rely on fertilization of an ovum have some form of block to polyspermy, whether it be slowblock, fastblock, or both. I am willing to bet you could still have a twinned egg from just one yolk, but I question whether there is enough albumin, cholesterol, etc to support two embryos form one egg. Too many questions for one of my professors next time I see him :P

[–]TenTonApe 0 points1 point ago

It was probably easier to get out of the shell too, so it's likely they're weaker than they should be.

[–]RedSeed 0 points1 point ago

WOOOOOOOOO

[–]tantobourne 19 points20 points ago

[–]jk526 23 points24 points ago

You bred raptors?

[–]profchaos83 10 points11 points ago

Exactly what I was thinking!

Hello John, hello John, hello John.

[–]thelosthansen 6 points7 points ago

Reddit has made me realize that most of my thoughts are unoriginal

[–]Hadjios 5 points6 points ago

It has made me realize how similarly we think, and I find that amazing.

[–]Scottush 4 points5 points ago

I call BS. He clearly stuffed two baby crocodiles into one sh...... What the hell is wrong with me...

[–]Sambeaux 6 points7 points ago

[–]Chris-P 5 points6 points ago

Crosspost this to r/aww now or I will.

[–]FeraL_ 3 points4 points ago

This has already been in /r/aww .

[–]whoadude1 4 points5 points ago

if they came from seperate eggs they wouldnt be twins now would they

[–]deosama 1 point2 points ago

Twins, or two headed devil spawn?!

[–]Nemesis106 3 points4 points ago

bros for life

[–]vmflair 3 points4 points ago

All cute until one eats his twin.

[–]mcon87 1 point2 points ago

I was amazed they didn't do that in the first place. It's not exactly uncommon for reptiles and other cold blooded animals to eat each other pre-birth.

[–]Spaceosaurus 3 points4 points ago

PLOT TWIST

Its a two headed chicken

[–]phentanill 0 points1 point ago

Well, they are both archosaurs.

[–]kirk27 0 points1 point ago

They seem really happy

[–]dyn4mo 0 points1 point ago

That egg must have been a lot bigger than the others--or the the 2 babies are undersized.

[–]Rosetti 0 points1 point ago

Me: Crocodiles come from eggs? Well I never...

[–]Kaevex 4 points5 points ago

As far as I know, most reptiles do.

[–]Rosetti 0 points1 point ago

Indeed, this is me having a air-brain moment. I just never imagined crocodiles laying eggs.

I never imagined crocodiles doing it either.

[–]Renegade917 0 points1 point ago

Wait, really? They totally do. Off the top of my head, the only reptile I know that gives live birth are chameleons. And even they still have eggs, they just hatch inside of the mother.

[–]okpony 1 point2 points ago

This is the case for only a few species of chameleons. Most lay eggs which hatch later.

Many snakes give birth to live young. Boas, rattlesnakes, garters, water snakes, etc.

[–]phentanill 0 points1 point ago

Some snakes are live-bearers, including the very common garter snake. (Thamnophis spp.)

[–]phentanill 1 point2 points ago

One of the Planet Earth dvds has a beautiful underwater scene of crocodilian courtship. The male very gently caresses the female with his claws.

[–]ClockworkINTP 0 points1 point ago

Intertwined in an AWESOME DOUBLE-CROCODILE DRAGON EATER

[–]lepuma 1 point2 points ago

I feel like this could be in /r/aww

[–]Redplushie 0 points1 point ago

So do they grow at the same rate or.. does they battle to the death?

[–]jabbaj7 0 points1 point ago

this is ADORABLE!!!

[–]UncleTedGenneric -1 points0 points ago

Fun Fact: This title almost perfectly syncs with a particular, popular classic by Madonna.

[–]imagine22jc 1 point2 points ago

Now that is cool.

[–]ShiiAnnFan -2 points-1 points ago

Watch your language!! Do you speak to your grandmother with that mouth?

[–]imagine22jc 0 points1 point ago

was that comment suppose to be funny? it's pretty shitty.

[–]walterblack 0 points1 point ago

At first I was all "woah watch your finger", but then I remembered that they are literally a few seconds old and do not have the mental/cognitive ability to do that.

[–]MaeveningErnsmau 0 points1 point ago

Why? Why must the only source I can find be from The Daily Mail?

[–]ilIkz 0 points1 point ago

I love their vicious look even though they are like 5 minutes old.

[–]palalab 0 points1 point ago

I bet they'll grow up to be gynecologists, share the same woman, descend into drug addiction, and die from a murder-suicide.

[–]Anal_Fister_Of_Men 0 points1 point ago

"Dr. Wu, what species is this?"

[–]isoptimus 0 points1 point ago

"Oh my fucking god, Frank, I am NEVER bunking with you again"

[–]briz0matic 0 points1 point ago

[–]Chubbysiciliankid -1 points0 points ago

Of course they are hatching from the same egg, how else would they be twins?!

[–]MattKilbourne 1 point2 points ago

You could have titled this photo: "So I went to Jurassic Park today"

[–]pewpewlazor -1 points0 points ago

Two crocs, one egg...huehueheu

I'll show myself out...

[–]daviddesousa 0 points1 point ago

is amazing they didn't try to eat each other while they were inside

[–]DaedricWindrammer 0 points1 point ago

I'm sorry, but this belongs in r/aww.

[–]you_sir_are_wrong -2 points-1 points ago

They don't look alike. This is probably fake.

[–]planetyonx 1 point2 points ago

Non-identical twins are a thing.
