Because this was before the existence of call display?

the guy was half asleep, maybe just instinct? beside the band wanted the operators reaction to be real :)

To be a dick and make sure he knows she's with someone else. To be fair, they allude to pink cheating on her while on the road, so I took it as showing that she's moved on.

And then they flipped it around in the movie ;). Made it so that she is cheating and he calls, and then picks up the groupie.

Should ask Nick Mason about that =)

Do explain please.

If I'm remembering correctly, Nick Mason was the man on the phone. Neither he or the operator knew what was going on, Mason thought it was just a prank phone call.

Truth

I apologize in advance for my non-Pink Floydian knowledge, but was this scenario actually based on a true event that took place in Roger Water's life while he was on tour?

If I'm correct, (which I may not be.) they had actually really called Nick Mason, and he just thought it was a prank call, so he hung up.
