What's really cool is that you can see the twist of the air bubble that's from the twist of the bullet. Good find!

[–]-DickFart 8 points9 points ago

whats really cool is how this is like the third time this thing has been reposted in under a week

[–]DMitri221 53 points54 points ago

And if everyone had seen it then it wouldn't have gotten upvoted this time.

[–]gsabram 27 points28 points ago

If everyone had saw it, it would be split in two.

[–]Filmore 1 point2 points ago

Sorry, grammar nazi...

If everyone had sawed it then it wouldn't have got upvoted this time.

[–]lurker_becomes_lurkd 8 points9 points ago

First time I've seen it.

[–]AerateMark -3 points-2 points ago

Reddit needs more commenters like you and me, sir! christianbalethrowingupvote.gif

[–]paper_towels -1 points0 points ago

Yup I have already seen this here, /r/pics/ and /r/guns

[–]evilregis -4 points-3 points ago

If only there was some way to just not click the fucking link then eh?Stupid reddit. Maybe try a little harder next time, champ.

I thought you couldn't shoot guns underwater

[–]ParticleSpinClass 19 points20 points ago

Most guns can't.

[–]Sackhaarieff 22 points23 points ago

As far as I understand must guns actually can be shot underwater, because their rounds don't need additional oxygen to go of. But then again I am really not sure, maybe someone can tell you more about this.

Edit: Ah yes, have a look at this video, really informational.

[–]MR_BLUEBALLS 3 points4 points ago

I think your good for 1 shot and then wont be able to shoot

[–]Gildish_Chambino 1 point2 points ago

Once.

[–]recneps100 0 points1 point ago

Most modern weapons are designed to be able to be shot under water.

[–]travp333 -4 points-3 points ago

I'm guessing this is some sort if water proof gun

[–]MediocreJerk 6 points7 points ago

[–]travp333 0 points1 point ago

What's that supposed to mean

[–]gne1217 -3 points-2 points ago

Glocks are waterproof. I'm pretty sure this is a glock because of the square slide

[–]ohshititsjess 7 points8 points ago

1911.

[–]rrearleii 4 points5 points ago

I'm pretty sure it's an AK-74 with a barrel shroud.

[–]liebereddit 3 points4 points ago

I wonder what the recoil is like? I'd assume it's much stronger due to the mass of the water that must be displaced. I always thought that guns might explode when fired underwater. Or, at least that the shooter's wrist might be injured.

[–]koodeta 2 points3 points ago

Have you tried to run in water? It's much harder than actually running. The same principle applies here. The whole gun is under-water therefore the recoil will be diminished.

All a gun does to fire a round is have a small pin hit the back of the bullet with a small amount of force. This creates a reaction with the gunpowder mix inside the bullet casing forcing the bullet itself to accelerate out of it's casing, along the barrel and then move somewhere else.

The reason guns can fire underwater is because gunpowder is an oxidizer and therefore does not need oxygen to operate. You can fire it in space, underwater. Anywhere there is no oxygen it still can. Water, however, is different from space in that it slows the bullet down considerably because it has more mass. This is also why you cannot fire high velocity bullets into water because the extreme amount of velocity they contain shatters the bullet on impact. This isn't the case with small-arms guns (like a pistol, depending on model) as they fire smaller rounds at a smaller velocity.

[–]liebereddit 0 points1 point ago

I understand that the water would create resistance to the recoil, but wouldn't the inital recoil force be much stronger due to the water in the barrel being pushed out of the way by the bullet?

[–]koodeta 0 points1 point ago

Not necessarily. The force from the bullet pushing the water out of the barrel is still diminished from the water weight it has to move through. The entire process of firing a gun underwater is somewhat like everything moving slower. Since everything moves slower, the force is spread out over a longer time and therefore does not produce as much.

It sounds like a contradiction but think about this: You run up stairs (2 at a time for example), you pause on the top to see that your legs are burning and you are breathing harder. Contrast to simply walking up stairs. It is over a longer period of time but you don't have to exert as much energy to do the same amount of work.

I don't think this is ok even if it isn't a rule. Wait at least a week before you repost.

[–]washome 6 points7 points ago

If he had waited a week I would never have seen it. Thanks for not waiting OP.

[–]DBiz 0 points1 point ago

it sucks that the same post can hit the front page just by switching what subreddit it is in. You would think the people who browse /r/PerfectTiming would have already seen it on the frontpage.

[–]nidalmorra 16 points17 points ago

Everyone's frontpage is different.

[–]G2daG 0 points1 point ago

But the post was on the front page of /r/perfecttiming 2 days ago

[–]godofallcows 1 point2 points ago

Not r/all however.

[–]iliveinacave 1 point2 points ago

DAE think these kinds of shots where the picture was purposely set up to capture this event arent quite the same? This pic would go great in /r/pics but to say its 'perfectly timed' when the whole scene was set up to take this photo isnt quite the same...

[–]Tearill -1 points0 points ago

does anyone else think the way he is holding the gun looks like it would be really awkward?

[–]Caleb_mac11 -1 points0 points ago

Is that a Taurus? It looks like a Taurus

[–]BradInBlack 0 points1 point ago

You can tell it's not a tauras because it works.

[–]themandretti 0 points1 point ago

For a second I thought the picture was someone shooting a jellyfish

[–]papalkombat 0 points1 point ago

High-speed footage of this would be fascinating...

[–]TimothyGonzalez 0 points1 point ago

What are you actually seeing? Whats the white stuff? It seems like it's an air bubble, but where does the oxygen come from?

[–]colorblindboy 1 point2 points ago

I figure it's a vacuum, a void in the water that's created by the bullet passing through it faster than it can collapse in on itself.

[–]henghost 1 point2 points ago

It looks like a dick

[–]bennyd63 1 point2 points ago

Why are there ten creepy faces watching this gun firing?

[–]kamoh -1 points0 points ago

Nice try, guy who owns a marshmallow gun.

[–]ensamblador -2 points-1 points ago

If you use apps like reddit pics and if you check ir regulary, you will see all the reposts. You can even browse older pics, in case you missed it. I bet that the old image travel all internetz to finally reach the OC fb account. Then he proudly brought it here.
