Rules

  1. No screenshots, or pictures with added or superimposed text. This includes image macros, comics, info-graphics and most diagrams. Text (e.g. a URL) serving to credit the original author is exempt.

  2. No gore or porn. NSFW content must be tagged.

  3. No personal information. This includes anything hosted on Facebook's servers, as they can be traced to the original account holder. Stalking & harassment will not be tolerated.

  4. No solicitation of votes (including "cake day" posts), posts with their sole purpose being to communicate with another redditor, or [FIXED] posts. DAE posts go in /r/DoesAnybodyElse. "Fixed" posts should be added as a comment to the original image.

  5. Submissions must link directly to a specific image file or to an image hosting website with minimal ads. We do not allow blog hosting of images ("blogspam"), but links to albums on image hosting websites are okay. URL shorteners are prohibited.

  • If your submission appears to be filtered but definitely meets the above rules, please send us a message with a link to the comments section of your post (not a direct link to the image). Don't delete it as that just makes the filter hate you!

  • If you come across any rule violations, please report the submission or message the mods and one of us will remove it!

Please also try to come up with original post titles. Submissions that use certain clichés/memes will be automatically tagged with a warning.

The world's largest indoor photo ever taken is a panorama of this library. You can see the photo here. The link seems to be broken for me in Firefox, but Chrome worked fine.

Edit: The OP's pic is the Theological Hall of Strahov Monastery, whereas the high-res panorama is of the Philosophical Hall. Same library, different room.

[–]Dexiro 14 points15 points ago

Damn, you can see whats written on the spines of books on the far side of the hall.

[–]Protonz 3 points4 points ago

I'm trying to figure out what these books are, like imagine it was just Chick-lit or Harry Potter...

Seems to be philosophy books. But I bet they wouldn't let me take one out and read it. Imagine the author sitting there writing his book, thinking it would help shape future minds and change the world, and the only thing people say about it... 'nice spine!'

[–]Shniggles 7 points8 points ago

Look at how my iPhone doesn't play flash.

[–]Redplushie 1 point2 points ago

Same with us Android users.

[–]tamifromcali 1 point2 points ago

Tragic to say; But the same with windows phone users.

[–]Kristsilvershade -2 points-1 points ago

Looks a lot better here. OPs pic looks flamboyantly red and gold, a rather distracting place to read.

[–]-CUNT- 2 points3 points ago

I dunno, I liked the grandiose colors of this shot. When I hit set to background image or whatever on Win8 consumer preview it seemingly adjusted my windows colors to kind of match the image. Looks pretty killer, lol might be the best feature of Win8 yet.

[–]eyeofdelphi 0 points1 point ago

I really like it that way. I like it so much I made it my wallpaper last time someone posted it. But, yes, it doesn't look very true to life and I would not want to try to read there.

[–]itlnstln 1 point2 points ago

I was slightly frightened and confused by how the people at the end of the hall had their legs chopped off.

[–]couldbechosenbetter 0 points1 point ago

100 bucks for the first who can find "EMLER REGESTA BOMEMIAE'.

[–]Nosfermarki 3 points4 points ago

Got it, wall on left from people in the doorway, 1st level, 8th panel from left (or back) 4th row up from bottom, books 6 and 7 from left are volumes 3 and 4. "Elmer Regesta Bohemiae et Noraviae"

[–]juliuszs 1 point2 points ago

Works just fine in Firefox and it is a beaut!

[–]WeaponsGradeHumanity 9 points10 points ago

I want one.

[–]Thearmon 0 points1 point ago

I'll live there forever

[–]stoogiebuncho 9 points10 points ago

I'm surprised by how many globes they thought they would need.

[–]please_please_smee 12 points13 points ago

I would imagine they have maps from different points in history.

[–]ownworldman 4 points5 points ago

Well, that is old library. The globes differed.

[–]3dognightinacathouse 2 points3 points ago

My parents have a globe that looks a lot like that. It opens up into a bar. Which would make the library just that much better...

[–]Zantar 1 point2 points ago

Just in case...

[–]DruPacShakool -1 points0 points ago

This was my first thought. How many people are going to be using Globes at the same time...

[–]eXo5 4 points5 points ago

I want this room =\

[–]Galactic777 5 points6 points ago

I love libraries like this, it's so beautiful. Libraries shouldn't be cold, lifeless buildings. They should be colorful and bright, promoting creativity and imagination.

[–]Gecko99 0 points1 point ago

It's a beautiful place, and it's awesome that so many old books are in that one spot. But if I found a book I wanted to read in a place like that, I'd want to read it in a more boring-looking place. That library would make it hard to focus on my book because there's so many paintings and globes to look at.

[–]cheezeplease -1 points0 points ago

Eh, not necessarily. Some might argue that all the brightness and what not could hinder productivity. I don't believe that great academic success is a result of beauty, creativity and imagination (not saying that they aren't beneficial), but rather of hard work, consistency, and endurance.

You should see how many times this has been posted to r/bookporn.

[–]BadGeorge 5 points6 points ago

Just imagine how productive you could be in there

[–]blue_lips 16 points17 points ago

I wouldn't be able to get anything done from all the orgasms I'd be having.

[–]feralcatromance 8 points9 points ago

I personally like it without the crazy lighting.

[–]RocketRedRocket 2 points3 points ago

Yeah, wow. So much better.

[–]exatorp 1 point2 points ago

Eyes. Bleeding eyes.

[–]LongWayToTheTop 0 points1 point ago

I'd be too afraid to touch anything to ever get work done

[–]troylazlow 2 points3 points ago

That's why I can't find any globes at Bed Bath & Beyond.

[–]riding_qwerty 2 points3 points ago

Duke's Archives.

[–]_LOne 1 point2 points ago

First thing that popped into my head.

[–]H0RSED1K 1 point2 points ago

u just feel smarter looking at it

[–]please_please_smee 5 points6 points ago

Yes u do

[–]titsmcgee88 -1 points0 points ago

The amount of HDR and oversaturation bullshittery going on in this photo makes me wanna puke. I might as well be looking at a CGI render of the room.

[–]citrusphoto5 2 points3 points ago

Dont be a dick, appreciate the architecture and history. This isn't /r/itookapicture or /r/photocritique

[–]BONER_PAROLE 1 point2 points ago

The level of HDR here makes it impossible for me to appreciate it, because the processing is the first thing I see and I know this isn't how it would appear in real life, so I'm unable to immerse myself in the photo.

Pulling back the curtain for art forms has its drawbacks.

[–]titsmcgee88 3 points4 points ago

That's a great way to put it: my eyes notice the processing before anything about the room.

P.S. Thanks for the downvotes, everybody, you sure showed me that extensive post-processing and extreme color manipulation is the best way to look at great architecture. Because I need my libraries to have bloom lighting, damn it!

[–]sagex90 1 point2 points ago

I was originally going to downvote you, because I didn't notice the processing, but this is a much nicer picture of it, and now that I've seen this one the original post looks ridiculously saturated. I agree, completely throws the actual beauty of it off.

[–]titsmcgee88 -3 points-2 points ago

I appreciated the architecture and history the last 3 times I saw this photo. Also, I'm not being a dick to anybody in this thread, since the OP did not take this picture.

[–]citrusphoto5 -1 points0 points ago

touche...

[–]Jota769 1 point2 points ago

I just felt like Belle in Beauty and the Beast. Need to get a library...

[–]RuslNash 1 point2 points ago

This is what I imagine the tardis library looks like.

[–]B4_Data_Lore -1 points0 points ago

Meh, no comic book section. Not impressed.

[–]Datsyukia 0 points1 point ago

Opulence. They has it.

[–]BleedAir 1 point2 points ago

Definitely needs more globes.

[–]Gecko99 3 points4 points ago

Some artist should make them globes of the Moon and Mars, in the style of the globes they already have. It would be an awesome addition to their collection.

[–]smokingbluntsallday 0 points1 point ago

This seems so similar to the dark souls 'Dukes Archives'

[–]mackavicious 0 points1 point ago

I've seen this picture here before and I've always thought to myself: Damn, I would never get anything done ever. I would just be looking at all the beautiful shit.

[–]Consistently 0 points1 point ago

Finally found a place were I can enchant my diamond pickaxe.

[–]HyeR 0 points1 point ago

Three words.

Acid. While. There.

[–]17037 0 points1 point ago

Shhhhh. That library is a little too loud for this librarian.

[–]CosmicBard -1 points0 points ago

Seeing this makes me immediately consider:

"Man, sixty seconds with a hammer and I could totally change this picture."

[–]twatsmaketwitts 0 points1 point ago

This is how valuable books used to be.

[–]grumblesatlife 1 point2 points ago

Thats a lot of D&D books. Shame they are all fourth edition.

[–]micktravis 0 points1 point ago

Kids, HDR will rot your teeth and make your brain fall out.

[–]mehatch 1 point2 points ago

if the first 5 globes break, we're still good.

[–]khessel1 0 points1 point ago

No porn, no people...

[–]Patmarco09 2 points3 points ago

Just a week and a half ago, I was in Prague. My wife and I had heard about this place and decided to walk the trek beside a tiny vineyard, that finally got us to the Library. We weren't many visiting at the time so the staff allowed us to snap as many pics as we pleased. (which was pretty awesome considering you have to buy photo permits just to take pics in certain museums)

Truly is something to see the Philosophical Hall in person. The only way to actually enter the rooms for viewing would be thru scheduled personal tours.

Pardon the crappy P&S quality pics - http://imgur.com/a/PtlO1#Z5TRA

[–]battleblades 0 points1 point ago

It's like a scene straight from the pagemaster.

[–]Colbaire 1 point2 points ago

Six globes? SIX?!

[–]patienttapping 0 points1 point ago

there is no way in hell that I would be able to study in that place. I feel like that is a place that inspires all sorts of creativity

[–]Tebasaki 0 points1 point ago

That's a lotta Earfs!

[–]socialite-buttons 0 points1 point ago

Garish

[–]MagicPaul 0 points1 point ago

There. The composition was putting me off.

[–]lurkzing 1 point2 points ago

I wouldn't mind being trapped in there for about a month.

[–]Zantar 0 points1 point ago

The carpet is tacky.

[–]SenorTy 1 point2 points ago

Where is this?

[–]woggietree 0 points1 point ago

You didn't take this photo you karma whore.

[–]manyapple5 1 point2 points ago

I want to go to there.

[–]citrusphoto5 0 points1 point ago

I want to LIVE there.

[–]alcohol_closet 1 point2 points ago

Bet it smells of rich mahogany.

[–]DeadpanWalking 0 points1 point ago

I hope all those globes are also bars.

[–]drprofessional 0 points1 point ago

I recall visiting the library, well, looking in as we weren't allowed to walk in, and seeing that we weren't allowed to take pictures... this photo came out much better than mine.

[–]mapkinase -2 points-1 points ago

200Gb - I have a portable drive that could carry all the information.

[–]Cmatt10123 0 points1 point ago

Was this library used in a level, in the game WET?

It looks familiar to it.
