I follow Geoff and Griffon on Instagram and people ask them about employment/WHY AREN'T YOU ON THE PODCAST there.

That kind of shit taught me that some morons literally know no bounds.

[–]Brimmk 25 points26 points ago

For me, I think it would be amazing to work with those guys. I think that the animation and film-making and writing parts of Roosterteeth would be fascinating to work at (as I'm aspiring to someday become a film-maker and writer myself), but I have no disillusions as to the fact that I need a good portfolio and show that I can churn out quality product before I can apply anywhere in the business, whether that's Roosterteeth, Rocketjump, or any other major TV network. Same with my personal dream to some day work for VALVe, again there's no point in asking or pandering to try and get a job before I can truly show my worth and skills.

I honestly don't understand how people can think that, for example, the AH crew mainly play video-games and yelling stuff at each other. They aren't. Let's take the example from jack in podcast #184; he was rendering video ON THE PLANE COMING BACK FROM SEATTLE TO MEET THE DEADLINE AND CAN'T GO TO AUSTRALIA BECAUSE HE HAS TO DO THE ACHIEVEMENT VIDEOS FOR HALO 4. The guy works like crazy, and yah, he does get to do a ton of fun stuff like travel around and do Let's Play's and stuff like that, but he has a very detailed and demanding schedule. The dude's a professional and a specialist and is extremely dedicated to putting out awesome work, not just goofing off and for that, I really respect him and the whole AH crew, as well as all of the rest of the company that churns out tons of high-quality content on a regular basis.

They're artists, not our close personal friends and they deserve our respect and personal space, not pandering and stalking.

TL;DR Get experience before you apply, they're not just goofing off and stop being Overly-Attached Fans, let them be and enjoy their work.

Holy crap. Are you me? These are exactly my plans and my ideals...

[–]oldnewport55 3 points4 points ago

Well shit looks like I'm gonna have some competition....

[–]EitanWolf 2 points3 points ago

Hah. Probably not. You're waay ahead of me. That would be awesome if we ended up working together someday. :D

[–]oldnewport55 2 points3 points ago

Oh no I'm defiantly not, Ive done nothing toward making videos or anything. I dont even have a camera right now, hoping to get one on black friday though and it would be pretty cool if we worked together.

[–]EitanWolf 1 point2 points ago

Oh. Well, I've been making Minecraft videos, but.. Who hasn't on YouTube? :P I'm come up with some film ideas, but I honestly just don't have enough resources to make it happen. And the Source Filmmaker for animation isn't available on a Mac.

[–]oldnewport55 0 points1 point ago

I understand not having enough resources, but keep at is all I can say and maybe we will work together one day!

[–]EitanWolf 0 points1 point ago

:) What's frustrating is that I have an idea on how I want something to be and I just can't make it happen. But whatever. I'll just work harder.

[–]oldnewport55 0 points1 point ago

I know that frustration man

[–]Brimmk 0 points1 point ago

Oh no I'm definitely not, (...)

FTFY and remember what Burnie said not all that long ago about "definitely" and "defiantly", especially on Twitter?

[–]oldnewport55 1 point2 points ago

Look dude I defiantly remember but I dont see what that has to do with this situation.

[–]Brimmk 0 points1 point ago

We should test this out with some type of personality test or something like that...

What are your 3 favorite Sci-fi series of all time?

What are your 3 favorite series that are either on the air right now or have been renewed for another season (this can include animated series)

Do you read/watch manga/anime? If so, what are your 3 favorite currently running and 3 no longer running manga/anime?

[–]EitanWolf 0 points1 point ago

All Time: (I did a few because they're all equally dear to me :D)

  • Firefly
  • Lost
  • Twilight Zone
  • Battlestar Galactica

Renewed:

  • Community for sure.
  • Family Guy
  • I believe Doctor Who is renewed.

Manga

  • Sorry, I don't read or watch anime or manga. :)

  • I read the Death Note series and really enjoyed it, does that count? :)

EDIT: HOW COULD I FORGET BIG BANG THEORY? 0.o

[–]Brimmk 0 points1 point ago

for the most part, that's pretty freaky. I have similar answers:

Sci-fi of all time:

  • Firefly
  • Star Trek
  • Doctor Who (though I'm still playing catch-up via netflix as I only got into it recently

Renewed:

  • Community
  • A Game of Thrones
  • Avatar: Legend of Korra

Manga/Anime (current):

  • Fairy Tail
  • Bleach *Katekyo Hitman Reborn!

Manga/Anime (finished)

  • Full-Metal Alchemist: Brotherhood
  • Trigun
  • Heroman

For me, Big Bang Theory falls under fav. Sitcoms along with Community and How I Met Your Mother

[–]EitanWolf 0 points1 point ago

I forgot that the Legend of Korra was coming back! It's been so long.. Add that to my list.

This is really freaky though.. We are like the same person. This is awesome! Hah. Now I just want to work with you even more!

I never really could get into Star Trek.. I watched it a lot with my dad, but.. It's not a favorite. Same with Game of Thrones.

[–]Raballo 17 points18 points ago

I thought about trying to get a job at Rooster Teeth once. I then decided that it was in my best interest to not know what its like working there and simply admire them all.

[–]PirateMonkey00 13 points14 points ago

That's a very sage approach. I could imagine getting a job there would kill the magic and then it'd be like "Wait a minute, this is a JOB!"

[–]JLow1864 13 points14 points ago

Woah woah woah this is a computer. Where the hell is my personal Xbox 360?!

[–]itoa5t 11 points12 points ago

They probably are annoyed by it because everyone thinks its just playing video games, when its not; you have to edit, cut, do a hell of a lot of rendering, its not all fun and games and people dont really get that...

[–]Sergnb 13 points14 points ago

to be honest editing and rendering videos still sounds like a cool job to me.

[–]saintgio3 3 points4 points ago

It is. But it's also work.

[–]Sergnb 6 points7 points ago

I would do that over any other "tedious" job any day

[–]Rtech 2 points3 points ago

My job right now is to edit and render videos on a daily basis. And I love the hell out of it!

[–]Sergnb 2 points3 points ago

I want that job :/

[–]Rtech 2 points3 points ago

Move to North County California and I'll get you an internship.

[–]Sergnb 1 point2 points ago

generous offer, but I live like 7 hours away from there.

[–]Fat_Ginger_Burnie 6 points7 points ago

If you guys wanted jobs, all you had to do was ask me to dance, but you all missed your chances.

[–]BURNIE_BURNS_IS_GODBenevolent Bro 7 points8 points ago

Still going, I see.

[–]Fat_Ginger_Burnie 4 points5 points ago

It'll take a lot to get me to stop.

[–]Xvash2 6 points7 points ago

Probably what happens when you hire out of the community, makes all the young-ins' think "hey if they notice me enough i can get a job playing video games and not doing anything!"

[–]Newbs280 3 points4 points ago

It makes a lot of the site and live streams they do unbearable.

The second Joel mentions he watches Top Posts, it becomes everyone's goal to get on there so they can get noticed.

Every time a live stream happens, it's basically "Hey Hey Hey! I'm adhering to your every interest so you will love me! PLEASE LOVE ME!"

What ever happened to the community aspect of the site? I guess the vocal community is the annoying one...

[–]lccharger90 4 points5 points ago

Let be honest, if you want to work at RT you gonna need to act professional and have something to contribute and not just be a whiny fan boy asking for a job so you can just hang out with them.

[–]BuffaloNate 3 points4 points ago

My personal goal right now is to work for Roosterteeth, I'm majoring in broadcasting and radio and I feel like if I work hard enough maybe I can have a chance to maybe work there filming or writing which I also have done a lot. Once I'm done with my major and I build a portfolio I'd like to work there but if I don't then I don't, but it's just been a dream of mine to get there. I realize though in order to set myself apart from the whiny people who just sit there and ask them all the time, I need to act professional and actually have a background.

[–]saintgio3 1 point2 points ago

I hear that. I'm just finishing my degree in Cinematography. I moved to Austin a few months back just so I could be ELIGIBLE for their internship program. Turns out they weren't looking for film people this year so obviously I didn't get in.

Now I'm working on sets around here, saving money and buying my own equipment for my plan B. It's pretty cool. Maybe once I get a little more under my belt I'll come back and give it another shot.

[–]ToiletBear 1 point2 points ago

How is the job/internship opportunity for Austin by the way?

[–]saintgio3 0 points1 point ago

At RT or in general?

[–]ToiletBear 1 point2 points ago

Oh, just in general I hear there is a decent amount of work on set and I want to start freelancing post there. I will need to get a barista job at first.

[–]saintgio3 0 points1 point ago

You heard right. There are A LOT of aspiring film makers but hardly any of them know what they're doing. If you know what you're doing, you can get work pretty quick.

[–]ToiletBear 1 point2 points ago

Great, thanks for the information, just need to gain a bit more experience editing but Chicago is a dead zone for that, which is forcing me to move somewhere else.

[–]saintgio3 1 point2 points ago

Oh there's plenty of editing gigs over here. Probably because nobody wants to edit, haha.

Now that I've aided you, I trust you won't maul me when my cheeks hit the seat. My bum is safe from toilet bears for another day.

[–]ToiletBear 2 points3 points ago

lol, thank you again, and editing is fun... well for me at least.

Toilet bears only eat your poop, no need to worry about your cheeks.

[–]Abstruse 1 point2 points ago

Check for internship postings. And post your shit on YouTube. Best resume you can have these days for media jobs.

[–]Sw0rDz 2 points3 points ago

I'm curious how much they pay at RT. Other than Monty and a few others, I can't see it being a high paying job. Then again, working there is more fun than work really.

[–]indie_cat 2 points3 points ago

I don't get what is up with these shitty fans who only want a job at Roosterteeth to hangout with them. There is already a place to hangout with the RT Staff, it's called RTX.

While, I can't say that I didn't want to work for Roosterteeth at one point, I can say that RT has inspired me to start my own production company one day, that and an intro to film and an advanced film class made me fall in love with with all the behind the scenes work in films and television.

[–]Aneurin 1 point2 points ago

RTX may be the place to hang out with the RT staff, but did you go to RTX? Not much opportunity to hang out with them the way I'd like. Sure I'd love to get a job there and I follow most of the stuff they make but I'm not one of the vocal, whiny fanboys. I'd still love to hang out and have a beer or two with some of them and not even talk about RT stuff, just hang out. I feel like I've got a different definition of it than most people do.

[–]indie_cat 0 points1 point ago

I didn't go to RTX so I don't know what that was like there. Personally, I went to SDCC 2011 and met Burnie and Griffon and was able to have a brief conversation with them and that, for me, was all I wanted. To meet some of the RT Staff and get some autographs on my DVDS.

[–]Abstruse 2 points3 points ago

I've actually applied for a job at RoosterTeeth. As in a mundane office job, not a "Burnie saw your awesome YouTube video and offered to hire you" job. If you live in the Austin area, watch Craigslist. That's where they posted for the receptionist job for the RT offices as well as a job with Achievement Hunter.

They won't label them as RoosterTeeth to avoid fanboys gushing (they're wanting actual applicants with experience), but if you're a fan, it's pretty obvious its them posting.

[–]DonkeyManda 2 points3 points ago

I'd love to work there, bunch of really cool people. But FUCK people are dumb, I think it was mentioned on a podcast a while ago that someone wanted to apply and didn't even know what a demo reel was... seriously, wtf... Fuck it, I'll just start my own company, with blackjack, and hookers!

[–]power_of_friendship 2 points3 points ago

After I get my PhD, I'm sending them an application.

I don't care if it's relevant work experience, but damn it if I don't end up being their science advisor. And every company needs a chemist to pose for stock lab pictures.

[–]DVartian 0 points1 point ago

You can correct them on the podcast.

[–]power_of_friendship 0 points1 point ago

Oh I will.
