My flatmate had a cat that attempted to run up a staircase - it was a wooden stair case with no backing on it, so you could see through it, the cat being a hefty fat cat sailed right on through the stairs as it attempted to bank around the corner, it then ran into the glass plate door, looked a bit dazed, looked about, then licked its backside like "I MEANT TO DO THAT"

I've seen this behavior in the big cats, especially Leopards. With big cats it has something to do with masking their scent to so the prey can't smell them. I have no idea if this cat is doing the same.
